Something was cold, very cold. All Erza could see was darkness, but she felt cold. Everything was difficult to move, but she finally managed to open her eyes. She was on the ground, which was covered in ice. In fact, everything looked like ice. Slowly, she lifted herself up; though it was twice as hard because of all the pain she was experiencing. Erza finally looked up and saw that Gray had surrounded everyone with a thick ice barrier.
"Ugh…" she muttered as she stood up, her body feeling weak and stinging with a sensation that felt like needles. Looking around, she pretty much assumed that this Natsume girl had pretty much kicked all their butts. That girl..! Erza thought to herself and looked outside the ice. Just as she thought, the girl was nowhere to be seen. Frustrated, Erza hit her fist against the ice, shattering the barrier Gray had placed around them.
"What the crap, Erza?!" a male voice called behind her. It was Gajeel. The Iron Dragon Slayer was picking an unconscious Levy up bridal style. Erza turned to him and sighed, "We're all fine now. She's gone."
Laxus was the next one to wake up and stand, "That little girl is something else…she's as strong as Natsu, but she had Lucy's mercy." He said brushing some dirt off of his shirt.
Next to him was Elfman helping Droy up. Elfman settled his guildmate over his shoulder and let out a huff of disgrace. "You got that right, but who is she exactly? An Edolas version of someone they know?" he asked the group. Erza and the few that were awake shook their heads. Gajeel noticed some movement behind Erza and realized that Carla was aiding Wendy up. Breathing deeply and trying to brush off her pain, Wendy had casted a large magic and began to heal everyone. Slowly but surely, everyone started to wake up, but didn't push him or herself.
"Be careful, child. You're injured too." Carla spoke to Wendy. Wendy nodded, but her powers had grown a lot since she first joined Fairy Tail. Breathing in the air gave her strength, and as long as she did just that, she would be fine. Juvia and Gray woke up right next to her, and eventually everyone else was awake. They all sat in a circle as Wendy continued to heal them.
"We need to rethink our strategy. Both of those wizards have incredible power, but we still don't know their plans." Gray spoke as his wounds slowly faded away. Erza nodded and looked over towards Levy and Jellal.
"I want to split up the group into two parties. One group can follow Devil and the other can go after Natsume. Since both of you know about that book we saw, you'll lead the groups." Erza commanded to them. Levy and Jellal looked at each other and then back at Erza and nodded.
Jellal was the first to speak, "Very well. Laxus, Juvia, Gray, Droy, and Erza are with me. Gajeel, Jet, Elfman, Wendy and Carla go with Levy. Once we are all healed, head out. With the information we saw, we can't afford to waste time."
A little ways away, Natsume walked along a dirt path that went through a valley. She felt tired and a bit weak from her battle, but it wasn't anything she couldn't handle. Looking down at the ground, she saw the whip out of the corner of her eye. She lifted it out of its holder and gripped it tightly, "Lucy…" she whispered to herself. Stopping along the path, Natsume felt tears well up in her eyes and watched them drip onto the whip one by one. Slowly, she moved away out of the path and collapsed near a small patch of flowers. Tears rolled down her face and her body began to tremble a little.
"Why…Why does it have to be this way?" she spoke, her voice choking on her own breath as she cried more.
"It's because of Baron…" a voice told her from behind. Natsume shot up and saw a short old man standing on the path. It was Makarov, however she had no clue who he was. Still standing there in front of her, Makarov held out his hand to help her up, but she just stared at him. Sighing heavily, he took a few steps closer to her, but she pushed herself back and readied her hand to attack him. Surprised, he raised his hand and looked down.
"Dear child, I have no intention of harming you in anyway. I simply want to help you." he spoke softly to her.
"Who…are you? What are you-" she started saying, but he cut her off. "What's your name, dear child?" Makarov asked out of curiosity, sitting next to her. Confused, Natsume wiped her eyes and sat up. "Well…My colleagues call me Natsume." She said with a soft but broken voice. "Natsume…that's a nice name." he said softly, trying to calm her down. "Thank you…my real name isn't really a name anyway. It's more of like a title given to me by my guardian." She confessed. What am I doing? Why am I confiding in this old geezer?, she thought to herself. "My name is Makarov, it's nice to make you acquaintance, Natsume. But I'm curious now, what is your real name?" he asked. Natsume looked up at Makarov, he had this big goofy smile on his face that warmed the young lady's heart. She smiled gently; He reminds me of Papa, she thought to herself. "My real name comes from a dead language. It's Luce dell'Anima." She said sitting back a bit and looked up at the sky. Makarov's eyes opened wide upon hearing Natsume's real name. That name…Is like Lucy's name…, Makarov thought to himself, his heartbeat increasing as a he examined Natsume. She did resemble Lucy in some ways, but what threw him off was the hair and her skin. Her hair was pink and her skin was sun-kissed with freckles. Could she be a relative of Lucy's?
"Oh!" Natsume spoke, interrupting Makarov's thoughts. She looked at him with her bright green eyes and smiled with a great big grin, striking nostalgia in the guild master's heart. Natsu…, he thought to himself.
"My name does have a meaning!" she said happily, her spirits now lifted from their previous state. Makarov, still trying to connect the pieces in his head of this girl, smiled back at her and asked her to explain.
"My guardian told me it was given to me by my mother. She was very weak when I was born and didn't make it…but the last thing she whispered to my guardian was my name in that dead language. It's supposed to represent this great secret that she knew, but no one knows what it means." Natsume said reaching her right hand up to the sky. The sun was setting slightly and the shape of the moon could just be barely seen in the sky. Makarov looked at her again, worry and confusion clouded his eyes as he examined her. He knows she is involved with Baron and his plans, but from what he's seen, this girl has ulterior motives under her sleeve. He then noticed her hand was beginning to glow. A soft blue glow with bright sparkles began to glisten around it; it almost looked like a fire of starlight. Makarov's eyes moved from her hand back to her face and noticed that she was crying softly, but she was smiling. Finally, she was about to speak again after a long period of silence.
"It means Light of the Soul."
