Bokor stared into his wooden slab, his two followers looking at him apprehensively. They were trying to understand their master's decisions, why he did not kill the youngest brother when he had the chance. After seeing what their master was capable of, however, they dared not utter a word. They cowered as Bokor's face twisted into one of anger and contempt. Looking into the chunk of wood, the last images he saw were three figures disappearing from the room in a flood of blue and white lights, one of them being his victim. The leader hurled the mysterious slab of wood into a nearby stone wall where it shattered into thousands of splinters. He let loose a rumbling roar that made his followers bow as low as they possibly could.
"He escaped!" he bellowed deeply. "How did his brothers find him? My plan is ruined and I will never leave this dimension!"
"We can retrieve him," one of the Vestal demons offered. "We will bring him back to you and you will be able to continue your plan."
"Yes," the second demon agreed. "You will succeed and the Complete will be vanquished. They are no match for your power."
For a long while Bokor said nothing. Normally his anger would override his senses and he would kill anyone who dared interrupt him in thought or speech. However, his situation had changed now. His mind was preoccupied with figuring out what to do next. As intelligent as he was, he had not planned on his victim's brothers rescuing him, not yet. Possibility upon possibility presented itself in his mind as he put together the next steps of what would be an altered plan.
The two Vestal demons winced and waited, expecting their master to lash out against them. His silence was unsettling and made them feel a bit uncomfortable; they had become accustomed to his short temper and the absolute power he held over them. This abrupt change in plans came as a welcome surprise. Perhaps their master needed them more than he was willing to admit.
Bokor chanted a few words in an unfamiliar language and waved his hand. A new block of old wood materialized in thin air. He grasped it in both hands and placed it in front of him where it hovered slowly as if on an invisible pedestal. He gazed into it deeply as images begin to present themselves to him. To the Vestal demons, however, it was simply a block of wood. Bokor crossed his legs as he began to float just above the ground. His eyes closed and he became lost in concentration. The Vestal demons looked at each other, wondering what their leader saw in the wooden oracle.
"What do you think he will do next?" one of them whispered to the other in an almost inaudible voice.
"Hopefully it will involve us," the other replied just as quietly. Both he and his partner jumped back as their master suddenly opened his eyes and spoke at them.
"You will both go to the brothers now," Bokor commanded. "The youngest is still drained physically and emotionally. He can still be controlled. Without his help, the others will be vulnerable enough to kill."
The two Vestal demons bowed in obedience as they disappeared from their master's presence in dark ripples. Meanwhile, Bokor once again focused his energy on the mysterious wooden slab in front of him. His eyes closed and his tall frame relaxed as he tapped into his power.
