They both jumped in opposite directions as Wesley pounced at them with the athame. They continued in different directions, forcing Wesley to choose one brother on which to focus.
"Take the athame," Matthew told James.
"Didn't you see before?" James replied. "I couldn't. It's like it's attached to him or something."
"This is weird," Matthew said, thinking. "I bet this is that Bokor demon we saw in the Book."
"There's a spell to vanquish him, right?" James asked.
"It's a Complete spell," Matthew said. He moved further away from Wesley, who decided to go after him. "We've gotta make him regain control before this gets bad."
"This is ridiculous," James said.
He ran and launched himself at Wesley, tackling him to the floor before he could reach Matthew. The two of them struggled for a bit. James was caught off guard by Wesley's increased strength. Normally, he could easily overpower his youngest brother. Wesley gave him quite a challenge and they rolled around the living room a few times. Matthew grabbed the Book of Light and frantically flipped through the pages, trying to find anything that could help resolve this situation.
James grunted as he worked to overpower his brother for control of the athame. He had a hand on it, trying to snatch it out of Wesley's grip, but no matter what he did he could not pry it away. Finally, he ended up on his back, with Wesley pushing the athame towards his heart. James struggled to stay alive and push Wesley away, but for the first time his little brother seemed stronger than him. James leaned to the side and pulled Wesley towards him, using the momentum to flip Wesley off of him. James quickly rolled away and faced Wesley, who had done the same and was now walking toward him.
"Sorry brother," James mouthed as he waved his hand quite forcefully.
Wesley was launched high into the air, slamming into the ceiling before falling to the floor with a sickening thud. James crouched down and caught his breath; he was panting heavily. Wesley did not move. Matthew tore himself away from the Book as he heard Wesley crash to the ground. He threw the Book down and ran to his youngest brother.
"Are you insane?" he yelled at James. "You could've killed him!"
"Where have you been the past fifteen minutes?" James asked in response. "He's been trying to kill us! I had to knock him out while we figure out how to snap him out of it. Anything in the Book?"
"Well…" Matthew began, considering what James said. "I guess you're right. No, the Book's not giving anything here."
"Let me try," James said, walking over and taking the Book into his own hands. As his hands touched the Book, the pages began to flip on their own. He waited somewhat patiently as the pages stopped.
"Long Lost Love spell?" Matthew asked. "Seriously?"
"No idea," James said. "Maybe I'm supposed to say it. Who knows? Maybe it'll work out in our favor."
"Why not," Matthew sighed as he stepped back.
"Bring together my love and me,
Long lost face I wish to see.
Cross over planes, far and wide.
I summon you now to be by my side."
A faint wind picked up and rustled quietly through the room, blowing the lighter bits of debris into the air. James and Matthew looked around for any signs that the spell had worked. After the wind died down, though, things had gone back to normal.
"Well," Matthew said, throwing his hands up, "I guess we solved that riddle."
"I guess so," James agreed, turning back to where Wesley was. He gasped; Wesley was gone. "Uh…where's Wes?"
"What?" Matthew said, turning around. He too saw that Wesley was gone. "Could this get any worse?"
"Don't say that," James said. "That's always what gets us into even deeper sh…"
Bright lights distracted James and Matthew as Wesley rematerialized into the room behind James. Catching both his brothers by surprise, he took the opportunity and plunged the athame into James' back. James shrieked as the pain coursed through his body and he fell to his knees. Wesley gruffly snatched the dagger from James and twirled it in his hand before moving towards Matthew.
"Homeboy," Matthew said, desperate to turn the situation around, "Homebody you have to fight whatever this is. You're stronger than this. We're your brothers, buddy! Bokor is using you to get to us. Don't let him win!"
"I have to destroy the Complete," Wesley replied in a very monotone voice. He slowly marched in Matthew's direction, grinning slyly as Matthew hurriedly backed away.
"You can't kill your brothers!" Matthew pleaded with Wesley. "We need each other!"
Wesley stopped for the second time. Something inside him started to open his eyes. He looked around uncontrollably, recognizing his living room. He looked at his hand; there was an athame in it and he could not let go of it. A voice urged him to kill Matthew, but as he looked at James lying on the ground, a second voice told him to break free. Was James dead? Had he killed James? At the thought that he was possibly the one to stab his own brother, the real Wesley suddenly burst out, temporarily calling to Matthew.
"Matt!" he yelled. "Help me!"
"Homeboy?" Matthew asked, instantly recognizing his brother. "I knew you could fight it! Keep going, buddy!"
"I…can't…" Wesley called out to no one in particular. He struggled with the dagger in his hands. It looked as though in invisible force was pulling the weapon against his will. It took all the strength and willpower he could muster to try and regain control of his body. "I…won't…kill anybody else!" With that, he forcibly turned the athame toward himself and thrust it into his own chest.
"No!" Matthew said as Wesley slumped to the floor, bleeding profusely. On another plane, Bokor also shouted out as he felt the connection to Wesley sever.
