Return to Oz

Chapter Nine

The Kansan girl, who was blinded by light for a moment, opened her blue eyes and saw a familiar figure. Seeing form that was in front of her, Dorothy smiled and shouted out.

"Tenchi!"

"Dorothy!" The crown-wearing scarecrow shouted back, as happy as the girl, "You found me!"

"Of course!" Dorothy replied with a wide smile, "You're one of my best friends, Tenchi. I would never think of abandonin' you!"

"I'm glad to hear that!" Tenchi said in response to the answer. Then, he asked, "How did you find me?"

The inquiry caused Dorothy to realized something about the Gerudo King's collection: most of the items lacked the color green. With this in her mind, the brunette turned to the scarecrow and spoke to him.

"Tenchi, how I found you is simple: you were a green thing. Maybe if we find other green items, we could find the others."

"You're joking, right." Muta interjected his doubt into the conversation, grabbing the attentions Dorothy and Tenchi.

"Not at all, Muta." Dorothy smiled artfully as Tenchi added, "It's the only thing we got right now. If we don't act now, we might not have a later."

That last part caused the lean feline to gulp loudly as the two friends started off to find the others, which were Kiyone, Helios, Mishoshi and Nightingale.

The scarecrow that was wearing a silver crown with green emeralds looked at the area where he found himself at, and Dorothy looked around the area, where the doors was at, and Muta was with her.

"Hey, Chicky! What am I supposed to do?"

"You look out for any trouble." The brunette Kansan replied bluntly, "The Gerudo King might be coming after us!"

"Gerudo King?" Muta asked the girl, confused about the situation, since he was asleep for most of the time in the backpack.

"I'll explain later, Muta." The female announced to the cat, "I've got to find the others first."

"Great..." Moaned a doubtful Muta, "And I probably won't be thanked for my part in this crazy search and rescue."

"Not now, Muta." Dorothy countered flatly, "Besides, I wasn't the one that ate all of the food when the sleigh got blasted out of the sky."

That caused the stray cat to freeze for a moment before looking at the farm girl with an expression that asked non-verbally, 'How did she know that?' Knowing that he cannot outsmart her, the cat said, "Fine; I'll look out for trouble."

As the cat went to the doors, the brunette heard Tenchi shout out, "I've found something green!"

Dorothy turned to Tenchi, who was nearby, and saw that the straw-filled man was holding a emerald sleigh that was the size of a rodent.

"All right." Dorothy said in a nervous voice, "Let me try to free this one."

"Okay." Tenchi nodded, feeling just as nervous about the results as his friend was feeling at the time.

With a strong, deep sigh, Dorothy said, "Here's goes something."

Taking the sleigh from the ruler of Oz, the Kansas girl closed her eyes and said the same word that freed Tenchi: "Oz."

Another brilliant white light flashed throughout the room, blinding everyone for a moment before they saw Helios, who was kissing Dorothy's hand.

"You've once again rescued me from capture." The white-haired man said as he stood up, "I thank you once more."

"Not a problem." The 'rescuer' replied nervously, not used to having a man kiss her on the hand, as a blush formed on her face.

"Hey!" Tenchi intervened, much to Dorothy's relief, "We've got to find the others and escape Ganondorf's mountain!"

"Understood." Helios nodded to Tenchi before the scarecrow added, "We have to look for green things."

As the two, human-like males sought out the others in their items forms, Dorothy looked around in the same area trying to be careful about not overlooking the items. Then, the farm girl heard Helios call out to her.

"Dorothy, I have found a green item! Come here!"

The Kansas-born female obeyed and went to the area Helios was at. Upon arriving, Dorothy saw the green thing was a vase. Intaking a deep breath, the girl touched the vase and said, "Oz." That repeated the events of freeing the inprisoned person; this time, it was Mihoshi.

"What happened?" The woman made of fruit and wood asked, "I remember looking for your friend, and the next thing I know is that I'm here sitting on a table. Weird, huh?"

"I can't disagree with you on that subject." The farm girl giggled as the creation of Sasami hopped from the table.

As they were about to continue to search for Kiyone and Nightingale, a blood-curting scream pierced the air, like a knife to butter. This caused for some concern for themselves.

"What was that?" Mihoshi asked, shaking from fear, due to the horrible cry.

"I don't know," Dorothy replied as she saw Muta back from the door in a fearful stance, "but I think we're about to find out."

Then, the white doors opened, revealing someone most of the group was not expecting to see anytime soon.

"Nelhelenia!" The majority of the group gasped as the witch's form entered the room.

The entrance was different than what Dorothy had expected from the witch, but two things grabbed the farm girl's attention: the lifeless look in Nelhelenia's blue and yellow eyes and Ganondorf's form standing behind the blue-haired woman.

"Something's off, guys." Dorothy whispered to the group; they heard it, but so did Ganondorf.

"I'm impressed." The Gerudo King stated as he dropped Nelhelenia's limp body, "Most people would be more concerned about the creature in front of them than the one behind the witch."

Muta saw the lifeless form of the witch and saw the markings on her neck, telling him that Nelhelenia was choked to death. Dorothy also saw that, but she did not say anything about it.

"Dorothy Gale," the red-haired ruler of the Gerudo spoke out, "I have to admit that good fortune has been close to you, but I'm about to put an end to that."

Then, the group saw the giant man's hand glow a crimson shade as Ganondorf exposed the palm to the group. The aura in the hand flew from the hand and went to the group, causing the allies to be pushed back to the wall and the knick-knacks.

"Ow..." Dorothy moaned as she rubbed the back of her head, although most of her pain was more in her back than her head.

"Using a simple spell to find a friend is against the rules, Dorothy." Ganondorf spoke, making the farm girl to look at the man standing over her.

Before the girl could react, Ganondorf's glowing right hand grabbed her by the throat and started squeezing it, partly cutting ofr some of her air supply.

"Damn..." The brunette gasped out as she tried to claw at the man's arms, but it was useless, because Ganondorf was wearing arm guards.

"Looks like your luck has ran out." Dorothy heard the boastful comment of the Gerudo King, "And once you're gone, the others will soon follow in death."

The young woman had no idea, or even a clue of one, to help her escape the dark king's grasp. As she struggled to escape, she remembered that she had two things in her pocket. Hoping that she would grab the right item, Dorothy's hand went to the pocket and grabbed something, but she could not tell what it was due to the depletion of her oxygen.

Pulling out the item, Dorothy could not recall what happened next; all she could remember was a loud bang and a yell of pain.

Tenchi, Muta, Helios and Mihoshi saw Dorothy pull out a gun and shot at Ganondorf, who stumbled back as he dropped Dorothy, who was blacked out from the lack of oxygen.

Tenchi went to Dorothy and saw the gun, recongnizing it was Jigen's weapon. With a wide smile, the wearer of the crown announced, "Looks like Ganondorf's finished."

"Is that so, you stupid pile of horse fodder?" The question reached Tenchi's ears, telling the scarecrow that the Gerudo King was still able to fight.

Turning to the giant-like being, Tenchi braced for the impact from Ganondorf's on-coming punch. However, Tenchi forgot something about the girl that was given to her for killing the Queen-Witch of the East.

When the fist was close enough, Dorothy's purple ponytail holder glowed. Then, a barrier surrounded both Tenchi and Dorothy, preventing the leader of the Gerudo from landing the punch. The force of the hair tie's magic was powerful enough to send the giant being flying out of the doors.

Helios used his magic to close the doors and bar Ganondorf from entering the room, knowing that the leader of the Gerudo women would try to attack again.

"What are we gonna do?" Mihoshi yelled out her concern as the scarecrow tried wake up the Kansas girl.

"Come on, Dorothy! Please, wake up!"

Then, Dorothy mumbled under her breath, muttering something about her Aunt Em and going to school. This caused Tenchi to yell out to the unconscious girl.

"DOROTHY! WAKE UP!"

The shout worked as Dorothy stirred before sitting up with a very dark look and asked, "Why did you yell at me like that?"

"Sorry, Dorothy," apologized the scarecrow, "but we needed you to wake up, since the silver slippers would only work for you."

Remembeing that she was nearly killed by Ganondorf, Dorothy went to her feet, but she had to be supported by Tenchi and Mihoshi. Once she was on her feet, Dorothy sighed out saying her wish.

"I wish for all of those who travelled from Oz to return to the Emerald City and return the stolen Emeralds to their rightful place."

With that said, Dorothy clicked the heels three times. Upon the third click, the group vanished into thin air, leaving only Nelhelenia's corpse behind.

Ganondorf managed to re-enter the room, only to find the group was gone, much to his fury. Through gritted teeth, he hissed out as he placed his hand on his glowing wound, "You'll pay for this, Dorothy Gale."

Then, Twin Witches of the Gerudo flew into the room and raved out in a panicked state of mind.

"Lord Ganondorf, the Emeralds are acting strange, and we do not know what is causing it!"

Hearing the sisters panicking in unison, Ganondorf growled with a snarl on his face, "Dorothy Gale..."

Then, the ground and the walls rumbled all of a sudden, causing Kotake and Koume to panic even more, while Ganondorf maintained the dark, frown on his face.

The mountain shook from the energies from the Emeralds before the jewels flew out of Death Mountain, which crumbled into many pieces, taking everyone inside with it.

At the ruins of the Emerald City, Dorothy and her allies had arrived, when they were greeted by an unexpecting person.

"Dorothy! Mihoshi!"

The two heard the call and turned to the direction of the shout. That was when they saw Sasami, who was no longer imprisoned in the mirrors.

"Sasami!" The farm girl hollered back to the turquoise-haired girl, while the girl made of sticks and a pumpkin shout out, "Mama!"

The others of the group heard the fruit-headed female, who was accompanied by Dorothy, and they were confused with the exception of Helios, who explained to the males.

"Nelhelenia used my horn, which she had stolen, to bring Mihoshi to alive after Sasami tried to scare her."

"Okay," Muta spoke up, "I can believe that, and it does explain a lot of things about her."

"Yeah." Tenchi nodded in agreement as he saw Mihoshi embracing her 'mother' with Dorothy watching the scene.

Then, the cat noticed something on the girl's backpack, causing the cat to dashed to Dorothy, who saw Muta coming and turned to him.

"What is it, Muta?" The farm girl asked, and the stray cat answered in a panting voice, "There's... something... on your... backpack."

"There is?" Asked Dorothy, who pulled off her pack and looked at it.

Upon examing it, Dorothy saw that there were two things on her backpack: a green medal and a tin-copper colored badge. This gave Dorothy an idea, and she grabbed the two objects and said, "Oz."

The same bright light announced the return of those that were freed from Ganondorf's spell did the same for the freedom of Kiyone and Nightingale, who were confused about their present surroundings.

"Where are we?" Kiyone asked, looking about at the place, "This isn't the knick-knack room."

"I do not recall escaping from Death Mountain." Nightingale announced to anyone that could hear her. Then, she turned to Dorothy and asked, "Did my plan assist in the escape?"

"I'm afraid not, Nightingale." Dorothy shook her head as she responded to the question, "Ganondorf was a few steps ahead of us."

"That was my mistake." The robot woman announced emotionlessly, "I apologize for that."

"Don't worry about that." Dorothy said with a grin on her face, "It was to be expected from someone with a cunning look in his eyes."

"Yeah." Kiyone interjected herself into the conversation, "Besides, we've found Tenchi and stopped Ganondorf's plan." Then, the deputy sheriff looked at Dorothy with a hopeful look in her blue eyes and asked, "Right, Dorothy?"

"Whatever it was." The farm girl smiled as she replied, "Now, we have something else to worry about."

"Like what?" The teal-haired woman asked, confused about what her best friend was talking about.

Helios, seemingly sensing Dorothy's thoughts, went to the brunette and said, "If you're worried about the Emeralds, then do not; they are returning home."

As if on cue, seven lights appeared in the sky, and each of the light had its own color. The first to see the lights was Helios, then Dorothy looked up and soon the others saw the lights. All of most were amazed by the sight.

"Hey, Helios," asked Dorothy without turning to the horned man, "are those the Emeralds that guards the city?"

"Of course." The white-haired male replied as the Emeralds just hovered over the ruined capital, causing some concern from the group, which was voiced by the farm girl.

"What's happenin'?"

"Don't worry, Dorothy, the Emeralds know what to do."

"What are ya talking about?" Kiyone voiced her confusion, "They're just jewels."

"Yes," Helios looked at the female law enforcer with a calm look, "but those jewels are infused with a very powerful magic."

Then, the jewels started to form a pattern, which confused everyone of the group. Four of the the Emeralds, which were red, yellow, purple and blue, circled around the other three, which were aquamarine, white and green. As the Emeralds turned and circled around, they started glowing, and the glow radiated down to the ruined city.

"Whoa!" The Kansan girls were in awe as the combined lights touched the city, and what the lights did next made the two friends gasped in a deeper awe.

As the lights touched the city, the ruined buildings started to be rebuilt. The group watched as pieces of most of the buildings reconstruct themselves. Once that was completed, Kiyone asked Helios a very condescending question.

"So, what about the statues that are really people?"

Helios expressed a look that showed his dislike for Kiyone's rude inquiries, and he was not the only one.

However, before the others said anything, an explosion erupted in the air, causing confetti-like glitters to gently fall from the sky. As the glitters touched the ground, the grass or flowers appeared, and the people and creatures were magically revived by the glitters.

Kiyone, stunned more by her rude behavior than the results of the magic of the Emeralds, turned the Heilos and said, "I'm sorry, Helios. What I'd said was wrong and disrespectful."

"It is quite fine, Kiyone." Helios sounded pleased with the apology of the deputy sheriff, "It has been a difficult day for all of us."

The other members of the group nodded in agreement, telling Kiyone that they understood her frustations as well.

Then, two voices that were familiar to Dorothy and Tenchi called out to one of them.

"Hey, Dorothy, get over here!"

Turning to the voices, the Kansas farm girl saw her two friends, Jigen and Cerbreus, who was no longer encased in stone by an evil spell.

"Guys!" Dorothy shouted with glee as she ran to the duo, and once she reached them, she said with tears in her eyes, "It's great to see you two again!"

"Us too." The het-wearing man responded as he returned the hug after Dorothy embraced him.

"Hey!" Cerberus barked out, "What about me?"

"Of course!" The farm girl freed herself from the marksman and turned to hug the winged lion, "I didn't forget about you."

Kiyone followed behind, getting a better look at Dorothy's friend that lived in Oz. She was impressed with the mane-less yellow lion and his large white wings. Then, she turned to the one named Jigen, who noticed her.

For a few passing moments, both the marksman and the deputy sheriff looked at each other, trying to study each other.

"Guys?" Dorothy intervened in her confusion at her friends' reaction to each other as well as the others, "What's goin' on?"

Breaking from each other's eyes, Kiyone said, "It's nothing, Dorothy. Nothing at all."

"Yeah..." Jigen agreed, but Dorothy was smarter than that, and she called them out by saying, "Yeah, right, you two.

Then, a blur of pink-red flew at Dorothy, who fell to the ground. Kiyone, Creberus and Jigen saw Washu, the 'Wizard of Oz,' hugging Dorothy tightly.

"Dorothy!" The young girl cried out as she hung on the farm girl, "You're back, and you've saved the day again! I'm so happy!"

"I'm happy too." Dorothy spoke out, "However, if you could, at least, loosen the grip, I would be a little more happier."

"Oops!" The young girl released the farm girl, who breathed in deeply. Seeing this, Washu apologized, saying, "I'm so sorry! I got excited!"

"That's okay." Dorothy smiled as she recovered from the tight embrace, "There's worse things in this world than bein' hugged a little hard."

Hearing this, the others laughed out, but the laughter was interrupted by the growning sounds of cheering denizens of Oz's capital. Soon, the residents of the Emerald City surrounded Dorothy and the others, continuing their yells and shouts of happiness.

"Let's cheer for the ones that save Oz!" A member of the crowd shouted out. Then, he said with the rest of the crowd, "Hip, hip, horray! Hip, hip, horray! HIP, HIP, HORRAY!"

"All right!" Tenchi shouted out after the crowd's cheer, "There's going to be a big celebration tonight at the palace, and all of you are invited."

The crowd cheered again, excited about the event that was going to happen later that night.
