Return to Oz

Chapter Ten

Later that evening, there was a great parade throughout the city; both residents of the capital and natives of Oz celebrated the return of the Emeralds and Dorothy's victory over Ganondorf, who had caused the disaster.

After the parade, which was led by Tenchi and Dorothy and her friends were in it, most of the people that were of noble and royal birth were in the castle. Dorothy, her friends and the the witches were the only exceptions to that rule.

Two of the witches, Zeniba of the northern part of Oz and Kakyuu of the south, were at the party. The Grandmother-Witch of the North was with her four daughters, who Dorothy had saved when she came to Oz a month earlier. The Princess-Witch of the South was by herself, but she was very social to everyone that she encountered.

The new Witches of the East and the West found Dorothy and greeted the farm girl. The new Witch of the East was a woman with long white-silver hair, bright blue eyes and wore a crescent moon mark on her forehead; she introduced herself Serenity, the Moon-Witch of the East. The second witch was a woman with silver-gray hair, which was tied into a bun, amber-yellow eyes and a pair of glistening fangs, who called herself, "Carrera, the New Vampire-Witch of the West."

Dorothy was worried about the new Western Witch, and the worry became worse when she learned that Carrera was the daughter-in-law of Elda, the last Vampire-Witch of the West, but she felt relieved when she learned that the new Vampire-Witch never got along with Elda.

When she met with Serenity, Dorothy was greeted by the Muchkins that she had rescued from Beryl on the last time she had came to Oz. The odd part about the meeting was that most of the Muchkins had named their daughters after her.

Soon, dinner was served, all of the guests of Tenchi were eating and enjoying a feast. Some talked about what they were going to do, and some talked about the past. There was entertainment for the guests, but one of the acts was not schedueled: Muta dived into bowl of fish paste and ate all of it.

"Gross!" Dorothy laughed out as she witnessed the feline emerged from the fish paste, "That's just gross."

"That's just nasty!" Kiyone announced, apparently displeased by the act.

"Well, that's your opinion, Kiyone." The brunette farm girl stated with a smiled before returning her attention to the meal in front of her.

Before she could return to eating her food, Dorothy noticed Sasami looking sad as the teal-haired girl quietly ate her meal.

Sasami was no longer wearing the outfit that Nelhelenia had kept the girl in for many years. The outfit she was wearing at the feast was a green outfit with beige accents on it. Her hair was tied behind her head, giving her a more mature look.

"Hey," the brunette called out to the former servant of Nelhelenia, "what's wrong? You've hardly involved with anyone."

"Oh, it's... nothing." Sasami was depressed as she answered the question, causing Dorothy to not believe the answer.

Dorothy was about to ask the pink-red eyed girl the same question again, but she refrained herself from asking, sensing that it was none of Dorothy's business.

Soon, dinner was over, and the present ruler of the Emerald City summoned them to the throne room. The guests were excited and curious about the events that were to occur.

"What's going on, Dorothy?" The sheriff's duputy asked her best friend, who answered honestly, "I really don't know."

"We'll find out soon enough!" Muta announced to the girls as they reached the throne room with the other guests.

Upon arriving at the throne room, which was decorated with emerald-green walls and gold accents, Tenchi sent Jigen and Mihoshi to get Dorothy, Kiyone and Muta to the throne.

"What is it, guys?" The farm girl asked the duo in her confusion.

"I don't know." Mihoshi replied, while Jigen stated, "I'm just following Tenchi's orders, and he's the king."

"We're coming too!" Kiyone shouted out, but Muta asked in his confusion, "What do ya by 'we,' Chicky?"

"Come on, Muta!" The blue-green haired woman grabbed the cat by the scruff of his neck and carried him as she and Sasami followed the farm girl to the throne, where Tenchi, Nightingale, Helios and Cerberus stood at, led by Jigen and Mihoshi.

Upon arriving at the throne, the three girls were greeted by a friend of Dorothy's from the first time Dorothy was at Oz.

"Washu!" Dorothy exclaimed in her surprise upon seeing the redheaded young female, who was happy to see the farm girl as well.

"Good to see you too!" The former Wizard of Oz smiled at the brunette before she noticed Kiyone, Muta and Sasami and asked, "Who are these guys?"

"They're my friends." Dorothy replied, "Two of them are from Kansas, and Sasami's a native of Oz."

"That's good to hear." Washu smiled brightly at Dorothy's friends before saying, "I heard that you've returned, and I came back to the Emerald City, only to find it under attack and get turned to stone."

"I'm sorry to hear that, Washu." The Kansas girl said in response, "However, I wasn't here when you returned to the Emerald City."

"What!?" The smaller female exclaimed in her shock, "Are you sure about that, Dorothy?"

"Afraid so." The brunette replied bluntly, causing the ex-Wizard of Oz to enter a mild state of shock from the farm girl's words.

"Calm down." Tenchi intervened as he stepped between Dorothy and Washu, "I've got an important announcement to make."

The crowned scarecrow let to the other guests and raised his straw-filled hands, telling all that he needed the room to be quiet. Once the room was silent, Tenchi made his announcement.

"Everyone in the realm of Oz knows who Dorothy Gale is from her accomplishments from defeating the wicked Witches of the East and the West, rescuing the children of the Grandmother-Witch of the North, and relieving Washu from the role of ruler of the Emerald City. Now, she can add defeating the Gerudo King and saving all of Oz to that list."

A chorus of cheers roared out as Tenchi paused to allow the shouts of the guests to echo throughout the air before he spoke again.

"Now that Dorothy saved us and the land of Oz, we are now in her debt, so we must think of an appropriate way to thank her for her many good deeds."

"What do you think he's going to do, Dorothy?" Asked a confused Kiyone, who was looking at the brunette for answers.

"I don't know the answer, Kiyone." Answered Dorothy, who was being honest about her reply, "I've only known him for less than a week."

"And you consider him a friend?" Kiyone nearly gasped at Dorothy, who was not as surprised at her friend's reaction.

"Yeah, it's weird-soundin', I'll admit that, but Tenchi's a good friend of mine, as you are to me."

"That's good to hear." Kiyone said, a little relieved and annoyed with Dorothy's attitude about the her odd friendships.

"Dorothy," Tenchi called out to the farm girl, "can you come here for a minute?"

"Sure," Dorothy replied before asking, "What do you need me for?"

"I'm about to get to that part, Dorothy." The crowned scarecrow replied with a wide smile before returning his attention to the guests.

"My fellow citizens of Oz, I wish to bestow our savior with the honor of becoming our queen, if she wishes it."

The cheered roared out as the announcement shocked Kiyone, Muta, Washu, Sasami and, most of all, Dorothy. The brunette farm girl was to decline the offer.

"Wait a minute! I don't think that's a good idea to do that. Don't get me wrong; I feel honored, but I'm not queen marterial."

"That might be true," Tenchi maintained his grin, "but I've discussed it with Jigen and Cerberus about it, and we agreed that you should be the next ruler."

"But what about the true ruler of Oz!?" Washu interjected herself into the conversation, "I still have to find her before I could return to my world!"

Then, the retiring king of the Emerald City and the former Wizard of Oz started to argue with each other, and this was depressing the Kansas farm girl.

"Boy," Dorothy moaned out loud, "I sure wish that the rightful ruler of Oz was here right now..."

The words were hardly spoken, when the silver slippers started glowing, which obtained the attention of the whole throne room.

"How embarrassin'!" Moaned the brunette female, blushing neon-red from seeing the slippers glowing on her feet.

"Look at the crown!" One of the guests shouted out, causing everyone to look at Tenchi, who was wearing the sliver and green headwear.

"What's going on?" The scarecrow asked as the crown glowed with the same color as the magical slippers.

The crown floated into the air and flew around the room, startling anyone that neared their heads in a fast speed. Soon, it started to slow down as it neared the throne, and it gently floated down and landed on Sasami's head.

"Sasami?" Dorothy asked in her confusion, "You're the rightful ruler of the Emerald City and the land of Oz?"

"Of course." The crown female said as she tried to stop herself from crying, "I've been waiting for someone to reveal my true identity for a long time."

"Whoa!" Kiyone stated to the light-haired girl, "you've been waiting for someone to reveal your identity?! How's that possible?"

"I will explain." Sasami nodded to Kiyone before she told her story to everyone in the throne room.

"I am the daughter of the late King Azusa, Princess Tsunami." The announcement causing many people to gasp in shock, "I was stolen by Nelhelenia, who was banished by my father after he learned of her plan to kill him and his family and to rule the land by herself."

"That's right." Jigen confirmed the crowned girl's words, "She was spirited away by an unknown force, and until now, it's been a complete mystery."

"But she could've told somebody about who she is." Kiyone stated, looking upset about the girl's explaination.

"Not unless she couldn't." Dorothy pointed that possibility to the female law enforcer, "That can happen without the use of magic."

Kiyone wanted to say something to her friend, but she could not disagree with Dorothy, since the farm girl was correct in her information. Curious, the deputy asked the princess, "How did she prevent you from revealing your true identity?"

"She placed a curse on me, which prevented me from saying anything about my past before the kidnapping." The young princess answered, "The only way I could have been freed was when someone crowned me the rightful ruler of Oz."

"A curse?" Kiyone was confused by the statement as she turned to the brunette farm girl, who gave a response to the questioning look out the deputy's face.

"Don't ask me about it; I'm still trying to figure it out myself."

"You've got to be kidding me!" Kiyone moaned out, while Dorothy's friends looked at each other, confused about Kiyone lacking the knowledge of curses.

Then, Tsunami re-entered into the conversation by saying, "By the events that had happened, the sliver slippers found a way to free me from the curse."

"A loophole of sorts, I believe." Kiyone smiled kindly as she decided to try not to question everything in the conversation.

"A loophole?" Tenchi asked as he pulled out his hat from his stuffed body and placed it on top of his head.

Turning to Tenchi, Kiyone explained, stating, "It's something that allows people to be able to do something without breaking the agreement. Understand?"

"I think so." The scarecrow thoughtfully answered, enjoying learning something new, whether it was from Oz or elsewhere.

Then, Princess Tsunami spoke again, "Dorothy, I believe that even though that most people of Oz wanted your to be the queen, I guess they would have to settle for you being a princess."

"Huh?" Dorothy was confused about the statement of the rightful heir of the throne of Oz as the cheers of the guests of the former King Tenchi echoed in the once again.

Before the farm girl from Kansas could protest against it, Princess Tsunami placed a single finger onto Dorothy's forehead, which glowed for a moment before fading away.

As the princess removed her finger from Dorothy, she stated, "I'm sorry if it's not as fancy as the actually crowning ceremony, but it's just as noticed."

"How could anyone know that I'm a princess now?" Dorothy said, knowing that it was futile to try to stop those that lived in the land of Oz.

"They'll know." Jigen stated as he placed a hand on Dorothy's shoulder as a sign of trust to the brunette girl.

Dorothy looked at the others, who nodded towards her, silently telling her that Jigen was telling the truth. Kiyone looked at Dorothy, and she said, "Besides, I could think of nobody else that would be a great princess."

"Are ya sure, Chicky?" Muta spoke up to Kiyone, ruining the moment between the friends. Then, the cat added, "Besides, she does have an odd scent about her now."

"What a cute kitty!" Tsunami exclaimed in her excitement before grabbing Muta and hugging him, like a doll.

"HEY! PUT ME DOWN!" Muta shouted as he tried to escape from Princess Tsunami's iron-like grip, while Dorothy, Kiyone, Mihoshi and Helios laughed at the cat's situation.

Minutes after hugging Muta in her arms, Tsunami carried the stray cat in her arms for the reminder of the party, while the others enjoyed themselves.

After the party, Kiyone and Dorothy was given a room with two beds in it, allowing the girls a lack of discomfort between each other.

"Well," Kiyone spoke to Dorothy as she put on the pajamas that was given to her, "that was one crazy night tonight."

"Yeah," a fully-dressed Dorothy nodded before she heard twelve chimes from the clock tower in the Emerald City, "but I think you should have said, 'last night.'"

"Ha ha." Kiyone replied dryly before stating, "It was last night, when I'd said it."

The statement caused the brunette farm girl to laugh loudly, knowing that her best friend from Kansas was right to say it.

Then, a yawn flew out of Dorothy's mouth, followed by the words, "I think it's time to go to sleep."

"Yeah." Kiyone said as she made sure that her pajamas were correctly worn. Then, she noticed that she and Dorothy were wearing the same kind of pajamas, which were green with gold on it.

"Dorothy, did you notice that the pajamas were the same?"

"Yeah."

"You knew!?"

"You didn't?"

Kiyone was furious at her best friend for failing to telling her about the pajamas' similar appearance, "Why didn't you tell me?"

"I thought you knew already." Dorothy was sincere in her statement, "So, don't get mad at me for something that's not my fault."

"Sorry..." Kiyone groaned as her head fell onto the pillow in an attempt to fall into slumber to escape reality for a few hours.

Dorothy also laid down and started to drift into sleep, but a sound of a door creaking yanked the farm girl for her near-sleep and caused her to look at the door that was ajar. Getting to her feet, Dorothy went to the opened door and tried to close it, but the one responsible for opening the door stopped her.

"Sasami? I mean Princess Tsunami! What are you doin' her? In the middle of the night?"

"I wanted to make sure that you and Kiyone were comfortable in the room that Tenchi and I have given you." The princess of the land answered with a quick speed.

Dorothy heard the quickness in Tsunami's voice, and she knew right away that the princess was lying. The farm girl confronted the newly-discovered princess about the fib.

"That's not true, Tsunami. Please, tell me why you're really here, and no lyin' this time."

Defeated, the princess with the bright-teal hair answered honestly to Dorothy, knowing that she was caught in a lie.

"I'm sorry about the lie, Dorothy, but I did not want you to think that I'm a coward for wanting to sleep in a smaller room."

"Sleeping in a smaller room that's someone a coward?" The farm girl asked in her confusion, "That makes no sense to me!"

"That's not what it means." The princess responded quickly, "It's what most people would assume if I asked."

"Let me guess: Nelhelenia told you about that, right?" Dorothy had her assumptions, but she was not sure if she was right. So, she was going to get her answer.

"You're right," The young woman admitted, "but she told me that only cowards would like to be with another person if the room's too big."

Shaking her head in disbelief, Dorothy placed a comforting hand of the princess's shoulder and spoke to her in a comforting tone of voice.

"Princess Tsunami, it's alright to be afraid; it shows a form of logic and understandin', even if it doesn't always show. If you're really worried about being in a room by yourself, just asked somebody to help you with that."

"Well..." the princess stated, "This is also why I'm here: I'm looking for Muta, and I can't find him. Have you seen him?"

"I haven't seen him." Dorothy confessed, "However, I did notice something ran passed my legs when I entered the room."

Dorothy went to her bed and looked under it, and there was Muta, looking as angry as if he were doused in water. Upon seeing the nearly-white feline, Dorothy just grinned as she made a statement.

"Muta, if you knew you stood little chance of gettin' passed me back at Kansas, what made you think that was goin' to happen in Oz?"

"Can't a cat try?" Muta rebuked the question as he poked his head from the underside of the bed, "Especially since that Princess of Oz had nearly squeezed the life out of me!"

Then, Tsunami appeared next to Dorothy and frightened the cat greatly, since he did not to be hugged by the young princess again, but the girl spoke, "I'm sorry about that. I've just always had an affinity towards felines, ever since I was very young."

"Before being kidnapped by Nelhelenia?" The nervous feline asked, and he heard Princess Tsunami answer by saying, "Yes, since I was three years old."

"Yeah?" Dorothy asked, intrigued by the words of the newly-crowned princess, "I've never been like that in my whole life."

"You're joking," Kiyone's voice echoed throughout the room, grabbing the attentions of those in it, "right?"

"I don't think I have, Kiyone." Dorothy shrugged her shoulders at her dearest friend, who was standing next to her and the young princess.

"Yeaaaah..." The deputy rolled her blue eyes at the farm girl's statement as she folded her arms, "Now tell us why Muta has been allowed in your aunt and uncle's barn."

A moment passed before Dorothy grinned sheepishly and said in a blunt manner,"Oops, I've forgot about that."

The feline and the princess giggle, and the girl with the dark-teal hair shook her head in annoyed disbelief, knowing her friend was somewhat forgetful at times. However, she smiled and sighed, remembering that Dorothy was being herself.

Then, she turned to Muta, who tried to flee from the deputy, grabbed him by the scruff og his neck and gave him to Tsunami, saying, "Here's Muta, just don't hurt him... too much."

The lean feline gulped loudly as the princess took him and carried him out of the room and saying her farewells to the two girls, who went to sleep within minutes of the princess's departure. However, the two friends had a small conversation before slumber overtook them.

"Hey, Kiyone."

"Yeah, Dorothy?"

"Have you ever imagined that you'd find yourself in Oz, when you came over a couple of days ago?"

"Never in my wildest dreams."

"Did ya like comin' here?"

A moment of silence passed, and Dorothy was stating to worry about Kiyone, so she repeated herself. The second asking gained a response.

"Give me a minute."

Kiyone laid on her bed, thinking about the events that transpired over the passed days when she found herself in Oz: the odd plantlife, the odd creatures, the somewhat advances in technlogy and the magic in others that lived in the land of Oz. Everything that she had encountered in Oz was new to her, and it made her see that not everything was what it seems, which was something that she had relearned in her time in Oz.

Then, a smile graced her face as she thought about the allies she had made with Dorothy during the journey to Death Mountian and back. Kiyone also know that Dorothy was not crazy or lying about her adventures in Oz.

"I did."

A moment passed before Kiyone spoke again, saying, "I said, 'I did.'"

No reply came to the deputy sheriff, and she was getting both worried and annoyed with Dorothy, who was still in her bed.

"Dorothy?"

That time, there was an answer, but it was in the form of a snore, which told Kiyone that her best friend had fallen asleep before she got her answer.

"Dorothy..." Kiyone shook her head as she grinned sweetly at her sleeping friend before saying to herself, "Looks like I'm giving her my answer in the morning."

Returning to her pillow, the deputy closed her eyes, and she was asleep within a few minutes of Dorothy.
