The group had arrived just in time to see Black Star get pummeled into a tree, which to Maka gave a sigh of relief.
OK he was just knocked into a tree. She thought to herself He isn't dead
After that brief moment of concern she focused on the task at hand, Jason was advancing toward the group now. Maka readied Soul as Death the kid had the Thompson sister transform into their gun forms. Then the Prof. has Spirit transform into his scythe form, and even after the thrashing he received, Black Star got up and readied his weapon. Crona shifted nervously over to the side with Ragnrock jutting out off her back.
Jason studied his opponents with simple childlike curiosity. In his simple mind he was surprised that these enemies were even possible. He had rarely been attacked by his victims and even then, most of them were arrogant enough to feel like they were invincible. These, however, seemed to emit cold hard experience that Jason had never felt before. He was also stunned by the weapons that they were using, he had never seen someone transform before and, to his child like mind, scared him to the point of anger.
The hockey mask wearing fiend stared at the group before charging at them with rage in his eyes. The group quickly dodged and prepared to fight this threat. Death the kid fired his dual pistols into Jason's chest, which to his disappointment fared little better than real bullets. Jason shrugged these off and charged the kid before being blocked by Maka, who slashed at Jason who simply blocked and barreled through her defenses. Only to be blocked by black spears driven into his back.
He turned to face Crona, and was confused by the weird black doll that was in the girls back. That brief window allowed Crona to jam more spears into Jason's chest, who responded with an advance towards the black blood user.
"I don't know how to deal with this." She yelled as the slasher advanced even though he was walking to Crona through the spears. He had almost make it when Maka ran up behind and slashed at his legs, in an attempt to distract him. Needless to say it worked, to Maka's soon to be fear. Jason turned to her and after Crona removed the spears to recover some of the blood, attacked her.
Maka, who had easily defeated opponents who were stronger and more experienced than her, was discovering first hand why people didn't survive Jason. He was relentless, not even her strikes that cut his guts nearly out slowed him. All she could do was blocking the machete strike and land her own. She tripped over a root and saw Jason posed over her ready to strike. She almost met her maker when the blow was blocked by a giant shuriken.
Jason turned to the one who had thrown it. Black Star was waiting for him and rushed in and delivered a powerful punch lased with soul energy into Jason's solar plexus. Jason didn't even budge. He then slashed at the youth who dodged before Tsubaki transformed into the enchanted sword mode, which Black star then scooped up and attacked The Hockey mask killer.
Black Star was confident, even Asura had been hurt by this blade, and he charged Jason who then merely sidestepped the blue haired youth, before grabbing Black Star by the throat and throwing him into the same tree that he had already almost knocked down.
He turned to Maka in an attempt to try and finish the job but was blocked this time by Prof. Frank, who attacked with Spirit. Jason, now getting angry fought back with all his might, and when you consider that he was capable of almost defeating Freddy in the dream world, Stein was in trouble. All he could do was block.
While the two fought Maka had risen, and was taking inventory of her injuries. After evaluating that she wasn't hurt, she prepared to rejoin the fight.
"Hey Maka!" Soul suddenly yelled, scaring the shit out of Maka, "Why don't you try the witch hunter!"
Maka face palmed, she had forgotten that she could have simply ended Jason's evil reign. She yelled "Alright Soul!" and with that she started charging up.
Back at the fight Stein was beginning to tire, which is how most fights went with Jason. Stein was now trying to back pedal, so far nothing he did could stop Jason. Even his soul stitches did nothing; he was running out of options when he sensed a power. He turned to see Maka and Soul charging up, he and Spirit recognized what they were doing, Stein then focused his attention on keeping Jason still, a much easier said than done task.
Maka and Soul could see that Stein was trying to keep Jason in place and they smiled, they were ready. They released the Witch Hunter technique right into Jasons body, for a few moments they were happy. They had done it; they had killed Jason Voorhees, the killer of hundreds.
Their happiness quickly changed to horror as the dust cleared, and they saw that Jason was still alive, and that he had buried his machete into Steins chest. The teens were horrified, to say the least. Jason ripped out his blade and walked away, needing time to heal and reorganize his thoughts.
The teens made no move to stop him, as they all rushed to Steins side. Stein was in bad shape, it was to dark to make out how deep the wound was, and they didn't want to attempt first aid here. The none voiced discoing was made to get him back to the cabin with Matt.
A few minutes later
The door busted in to the cabin, shocking Matt out of his stupor. He was making plans to get Maka to swoon for him, when suddenly the teens he had just met stumbled in carrying what looked like a dead body. He quickly ran over to see what the big deal was and saw the wounded Stein.
"Holy shit!" He yelled as he ran to the table and cleared it so they could set Stein down on it.
"What the fuck happened?" He yelled to the group.
"Jason happened." Maka yelled before grabbing the first aid kit and bringing it over.
"Shit." Matt muttered underneath his breath as he ripped Steins shirt off to inspect the wound. The rest of the group was running around when they heard Matt breath a sigh of relief. They turned to see that the wound was actually much lower than they had thought; it had missed most of the internal organs.
"Your friend is one lucky bastard," Matt said, "Jason missed his mark."
The group all let out the breath that they were holding.
"OK listen," Matt ordered, "Your friend here will live, as long as he stays put. I would call an ambulance but the lines are out. I would suggest that you should stay here and wait till morning but I have a feeling that you are not going to listen to me. So here's the plan, you all rest up here for a little and then all of us but two of you will try to hunt Jason down. Is that ok with everyone?"
No one argued. Soon the entire group was sitting in a circle near a fire.
"OK I know that you have all probably heard the legend of this camp but I have to ask, Have any of you not?" Matt asked. To Makas shock everyone but her, Soul, Spirit, and Tsubaki raised their hand.
"Why?" She asked.
"It's the thirteenth, it's asymmetrical." Death the kid said.
"I don't like ghost stories?" Penny said.
The other sister didn't reply just started playing with her hair.
"I didn't think it would be worth my time. I mean I'm the biggest star so why would I read about someone else." Blackstar told the group.
"Anyway," Matt said, "The legend goes back awhile, to when this camp was first opened, and Jason drowned in the lake. The camp counselors who where supposed to be watching him weren't paying attention, the boys mother Pamela went crazy after that and disappeared. A few years passed and the camp was pretty successful, that is until the murder happened. Two counselors dead in the boat house, no evidence to suggest a suspect. The camp closed after that, the town said that a death curse had been laid upon the soiled ground. The camp was bought and was being renovated for a new batch of kids, a new crop of councilors were brought in. That night there was a storm. The teenage councilors started to disappear, each were gone one by one until only one remained. She discovered the killer, it was Jason's mother. That night of hell ended when Pamela Voorhees lost her head."
Matt took a breath. "The survivor disappeared a few years later, no one know what happened to her. But the camp was being reopened; the new councilors thought they were safe, they were wrong. Jason was brought back by the blood of his mother and reaped his vengeance. Every time the camp was about to reopen Jason would return and kill everyone, every time they thought they got him, and every time they were wrong."
After the tale had been finished the group had huddled a little closer, scared now for their lives.
"All right, now that's done," Matt said, "we need to split up. Soul and Spirit you stay here and watch over Stein. Kid gets your weapons and head west towards the river. Blackstar head east towards the other cabins, keep the kids safe. Maka you and I will head north. All right lets move."
Most of the group headed out, Matt had been the closest thing to an expert they had and had decided to trust him, even Blackstar finally listened. Everyone listened except for Soul.
Something isn't right. He told himself. He seems to be trying to get Maka alone. Why?
Even as he questioned this the duo went out the door, stomping out any objections he might have made.
A decent ways away
Jason watched as the group split up. He smiled under his mask, knowing that he would please his mother.
Also watching the group was a snake, which seemed to be smiling.
Heh the bitch is mine now Thought Matt as he walked with Maka north…
