Chapter 4

She looked up ready to apologize for her clumsiness, until she realized who had steadied her. Tony. Neither knew how long they stayed like this, Tony's hands gripping her shoulders keeping her upright and just at arms length. Ziva looked into his eyes, they were sad but kind, older and wiser. She looked at her feet and in a quiet whisper spoke up. "Tony, will you please let me go."

He thought he would know just what to say to her when he saw her, but all coherent thoughts vanished when he heard her speak. Two years since he had heard her voice, he hadn't realized how much he'd missed it. He didn't want to let her go, afraid that it was all a dream, a figment of his imagination, and afraid that she would just walk away again, but he did as she asked, he would do anything for her..

"Um yeah sorry," was all he managed to stutter out. She just looked at him, studying his face taking in everything that had happened forcing herself out of a trance she spoke up, "I have to leave", she said and turned to walk away.

"Ziva," he called out, "we need to talk, about everything, about us."

Ziva sighed, "What is there to talk about Tony, it's been two years we can't possibly share the same feelings we did when I left. I had to let you go and I think I've finally come to terms with that, because you deserve someone who isn't damaged."

And with that she walked away, unsure of what would happen next, ashamed of the things she'd said but it was true he deserved someone who wasn't broken, but most of all he deserved someone who hadn't trampled his heart.

She made her way back to her apartment tears silently streaming down her face, people were looking, wondering why she was upset, but she didn't care, she just wanted to sleep, to run away from the heartache she was facing, to dream of a happier time.

.oO0Oo.

Tony just stood there, mouth gaping. He was hurt to say the least but surprised by her last statement. Damaged? This baffled him, he never looked at her as damaged, to him she was strong. By the time he'd managed to grasp the fact that he had seen her, that he had held her in his arms, she was gone again. This time he knew where she was and there was still a chance to talk to her a chance to sort these emotions out, a chance to finish something that had started a long time ago.

A/N: So there's that any who I'm so sorry again about the update like I said I wasn't sure where I was going with this but there it is! :)
