*I do not own anything from Lord of the Rings, except for Jemma, Andrea, and Tommy*
My horse sped along the trail as I clung to the reins and saddle. I'd decided to take the same road we'd travel on, only continue past the village. Scenery raced by me, trees blurring with creeks and hills. My heart was racing and I was getting more worried by the second. I tried to calm my heartbeat by thinking up strategies, should I find them in trouble. Then again, I couldn't be a hundred percent sure if I would fine them in a bad situation. They could be completely fine. If this was the case, I could just tell them about the lady and go back and see if I could get the pieces without telling her anything.
After for riding for a few hours, I started doubting if I was going in the right direction. I'd based my decision on the Lord of the Rings movies, what if I had altered the storyline? Great, you're just causing more anxiety. Just stop thinking about it and focus on staying on this horse. I scolded myself. There was still no sign of the Fellowship by the time the sun was setting. My horse was breathing heavily so I decided to find a place to rest for the night. I walked a little off the road into a grove of trees. Luckily, there was a creek running through a part of it, so I set up camp near it to keep an eye on my horse.
I debated whether or not to start a fire, and decided against it. While I was cold, I didn't want to take the chance of bandits or worse noticing I was here. I was just one person and a horse, theres no way I could take on a group of bandits. So, as the night chilled, I layed in the sleeping roll I'd brought and tried to stay as warm as possible.
When Morning broke, I stretched and sat up. To my surprise, and quite frankly relief, I saw that nothing had happened to my horse or my things. Once I'd quickly eaten some dried meat, I headed off again. I didn't have to travel far before I saw the first signs of trouble. I started passing bodies of goblins and men, thankfully none were the Fellowship, and I started to panic more.
Then I heard battle noises. I got out my dagger and dismounted. After tying the reins to a nearby tree branch, I ran toward the sounds. I saw the Fellowship fighting various enemies, and it looked as though they had been fighting for a while. Strider parried blows with a particularly strong looking man with a deep gouge on the side of his face, which was still bleeding. Gandalf was taking on a large group of goblins. Legolas and Gimli were fighting off the majority of the goblins, and the hobbit stood behind everyone. They were throwing stones and stabbing their daggers at anything that got within reach. Strider was the closest to me, so I took a stab at his adversary. I was unlucky with my first swing, as it just bounced off his chestplate. It did cause him to pause for a second and turn to look at me. Strider took this opportunity and cut into the side of the chest plate, where it was most vulnerable. The man collapsed to one knee, clutching his side. Another swing from Strider's sword and he fell, unmoving onto the ground. Strider nodded his thanks to me, then turned to the next enemy. I took down the nearest goblin, working my way towards Gandalf (who seemed to be struggling a little with the goblins). Since the goblins attacking Gandalf were focused on him, I was able to cut the first few down without them noticing. When they did notice, they started parrying with me, which gave Gandalf the opportunity to help finish them off.
"Thank you."
"No problem, but I think we need to get everyone out of here, there's bound to be more coming."
"How do you know?"
"I'll explain later, its not safe to stay in one place for too long, even when battling enemies." I told him.
He nodded, "Alright, Strider! Get the hobbits to safety! Jemma, help me make an escape for Legolas and Gimli."
I nodded and battled a couple more goblins. An arrow flew by by ear and I heard the squeal of a goblin behind me. I looked at Legolas, shocked for a few seconds, then gave him a grateful look. We reached them in no time.
"We need to go." Gandalf said.
"Must we? I'm just getting warmed up."
"Yes, the hobbits could be in danger if we stay much longer."
The dwarf sighed, "Alright then. Come along Elf."
I wondered how hard it was for Legolas not to make a come back, probably not too hard, he's an elf after all.
"We'll cover the rear as we make our escape." Legolas said.
"Good, good. Jemma, where's your horse?"
"Just beyond those trees over there." I pointed to where I'd just come from.
"Go and fetch it as fast as you can, and meet us on the road."
It was harder to fight my way back, since there seemed to be more goblins appearing out of nowhere. I fought off many of the goblins, and somehow made it passed them. I hurriedly untied my horse's reins and scrambled into the saddle. I turned her around and raced back towards the road. I saw the Fellowship waiting in the middle of the road, as my horse burst through the trees. Gandalf saw me and signaled for the group to get moving.
The goblins didn't give up on the chase and had followed me out of the woods. Once they saw how far we were getting away from them, they started firing arrows. Luckily, we seemed to quickly get out of range before they could actually hit us.
Our group didn't stop for what seemed like hours, and even then I could see the group was hesitant to stop. The horses were tired, however, so we had no choice but to have a small break.
Once the horses were unburdened and were grazing peacefully, the others looked at me expectantly.
"Are you going to explain yourself?" Gandalf asked.
"I think that'd be best." I said softly.
"Why do you think that there will be more coming?"
"It's this feeling I got from this lady I talked to. But I'll get to that. After you guys left, I started asking around about the piece of equipment my brother needs. That led me to a woman named Marissa. She had it alright, but she'd smashed it earlier this week. I asked her if I could have it back, and she named a price. Along with money, she wanted to know all about you guys. I had the eerie feeling that I shouldn't tell her anything. Then she told me that she already had someone who was interested in buying the smashed bits. I told I'd think about it and left to find you guys."
When I was finished, everyone was silent. Strider was the first to speak, "I see. Well I for one am certainly glad that you came when you did. I'm not sure the condition we'd be in if it wasn't for your help."
"Yes, thank you." Legolas said. The others followed with similar words of gratitude.
"Doe this mean that you won't be able to get that piece for your brother?" Gandalf inquired.
"Well, as far as I'm concerned, yeah. I don't think I will be getting it back. Personally, it doesn't matter. I'd much rather help people who are in trouble then get back a piece of broken equipment," I paused, "Since I can't go home without my sister, could I travel with you guys for a while?"
No one said anything, and I knew they were thinking about Frodo. They still thought I didn't know anything about the ring, and I was determined not to say anything until they decided to tell me.
"I don't see why not, for a little while." Strider said at last.
"Great!" I told him excitedly.
"We should keep moving. The farther we get from those goblins, the better." Gandalf instructed as he started to saddle his horse again.
Once the horses were ready to leave, we rode farther away from the little town of Nahor. I wondered what my brother would say, when he found out his invention was destroyed. Remembering his note, the question of how I would return home surfaced. Tommy had said that the bracelets could malfunction without his invention. Did that mean I was stuck in this world? It wouldn't be too bad, but I would miss everyone in my hometown. I hope that I can find a way to talk to him, maybe he can make a way for us to get home.
I thought of my sister, Andrea, and wondered what situation she found herself in. I also hoped I could find her before something bad happened to her, assuming she was fine now.
Then I remembered what the strange old lady had told me the other day, about Brandon Williams. I really hoped I didn't run into him anytime soon, and if I did I wasn't entirely sure what I'd do. Worrying about all of this is not going to get you anywhere. I told myself as we passed a cave. Suddenly there was a yell for help coming from the cave. Our group stopped, and before I knew it, most of them had dismounted and had started heading in the cave.
