Chapter 13

Duct tape solutions

Prue was checking the duct tape they used to patch the hole in the boat. They applied it while it was really dry and stuffed some foam Ted happened to have on hand into it. So far it was holding as they used some ores that also need some fixing to move through the water. They were now in the vast waterways and canals separated by tall grass. It was impossible to tell what was land or swamp.

Phoebe was looking though a bag made out of hide from a furry critter. "What is this?" she asks while pulling out some food.

"Looks like jerky," Piper replied.

Paige was in the back while Prue was in the front. Phoebe nor Piper could do any rolling at the moment because of their injuries.

"Why don't we just go the way Ted said to go?" Paige asks.

"Because the Beacon is the safest bet and I have no idea how to negotiate these waterways," Prue replied as she wiped her brow. It was at least 90° and the humidity made every breath like they were sucking through a stroll. They got a late start and it was already midday. She took a drink of clean water out of the canteen while Piper would constantly look at their makeshift fix.

"Hay I thought Phoebe was supposed to take the lead?" Piper asks and grinned a little as she knew this was a sore subject.

"No its ok. I lead then I got filled with led," Phoebe replied.

"Anyone else is welcome," Prue said while continuing to paddle but she was clearly frustrated as she splashed everyone behind while taking the ore out.

Piper who was sitting behind her enjoyed the cooling sensation," No you go ahead because that way we have someone to blame," Piper said.

Prue looked out over the horizon and could see dark clouds moving in. Rain would be a relief but when you're on a boat with no pump, it could also be your worst nightmare.

"Guys try to look for some land a storms coming in," she said and they all began to look around them but all they saw was the tall grass.

"Sure no problem," Phoebe whispered to Paige. They continue to roll hoping to find something they could set their feet on. An hour passed in the storm clouds were now above them.

Paige began to sing the theme song to Gilligan's Island but could not remember all the words, so must of it came out as humming that was getting on everyone's last nerves.

"Paige there is about to be a man overboard," Piper said as the song was now deeply implanted into her head.

"Ok Thurston," Paige said referring to the older gentleman on the show who was grumpy most of the time.

"Ginger," Piper snapped back.

"Guys please keep looking, its about to rain any minute now." Prue's voice hardened.

"I I skipper," Phoebe said and when her big sister turned around to give her the evil eye, she just smiled at her.

"We could sure use the professor right now, of course he had no idea how to fix a hole in the boat, but he could make batteries," Piper continue to push buttons knowing just how much this would irritate Prue.

The leader of the group turned around and was now facing them and they all tried not to laugh as they could see the veins almost pop out of her head. "I'm glad this is funny to you because if we don't find land, we will sink and in case any of you have not noticed, there are alligators everywhere. Oh wait none of you have noticed because you're too busy screwing around," she said and they all looked away again trying not to smile. The heat mixed with exhaustion was making all of them little giddy except for one.

Piper saw what looked like dirt just under some grass to the side of them. "Hay I think that is land," she said and tried to point in the direction they needed to go, but unfortunately she was missing that finger, so it was just a fist. "Dammit," she said while Prue actually cracked a smile at how ridiculous it looked.

"Ok Paige guide us in the right direction while I paddle," Prue said and they finally made it to the patch of land that was no bigger than a queen size bed. They pulled the boat onto it as much as they could and put it on its side to keep it from filling with water. Prue used her ore to keep it propped in place. As the others got comfortable while the rain began to fall. It was slow at first but they knew it would probably pick up as the clouds covered the sun in a thick threatening blanket. A fire was put out of the question as there was no dry would and keeping it going was just not possible. They hoped the storm would pass quickly and would not flood them out of they little landing spot. Piper unwrapped her hand and made sure it was not getting infected. She was used to not seeing a finger there, but it still made her stomach turn. She could see where it was trying to heal itself as the skin was doing its best to cover the wound. She could still see bone but the bleeding was much less then before. The burnt skin was scabbing over and she put the milky white substance on it that Ted made for her before they left. She hated this part as it hurt like hell and just felt odd. Paige had to look away and so did Phoebe while she did this routine. She used some of the clean water to do her best to clean the dressing, but with no fire to boil the water it was a risk to put it back on. Phoebe needed help with checking hers and Paige would change the bandages but she too was in the same predicament as Piper. Prue sat down as the rain began to fall harder.

"At least it's cold down," Prue said.

"Good old optimism that never gets old," Piper said while finishing up wrapping her hand.

"Well I could say we are going to die, but that may put everyone in a stupor," Prue said as Piper seemed to be wanting to push her buttons lately.

"Its the truth, we are stuck on a tiny little patch of land, that will probably flood over and we can't take the boat out, because it will sink if it gets too much water in it, and if the duct tape starts to peel, we have no way to dry the boat to put more on. So excuse me if I'm not all chipper," Piper's voice was rising as she said the last part.

"I get it we have issues, but I am not going to sit here and wine about it," Prue raised her voice to match.

Piper stood as something snapped and her patients was gone." No of course not, we just go to the beacon and not even try to find the dock that Ted talked about that is a hell of a lot closer then that stupid white triangle!"

Prue got to her feet as she was tired of being questioned at every turn." Is this what it's all about your pissed because I made a decision while you were thinking of all the things that could go wrong. That's all you do is immediately see the problems!"

"Because if we don't anticipate them, then we will die!" Piper snapped back.

"I know that, but you don't stay in problem mode, at some point you're going to have to make a decision and deal with the problems as they come up."

"But you don't think that there's going to be any, you just jump right in and hope everything works out," Piper said as the rain was coming down hard. Paige and Phoebe just sat back and said nothing as the two argued. Normally it was Paige or Phoebe who got into arguments with Prue but this time it was Piper who hated conflict.

"It has worked so far," Prue said as her jump right in mentality has for the most part worked out.

Piper threw her hands in the air as she felt like she was going to explode and if she had her powers, the boat probably would have more holes by now. "Your impossible to talk too," she said and turned and began to walk away, but unfortunately ran out of space. Prue did the same and they both had their backs turned to each other. Phoebe looked from one to the other and could not help but start laughing extremely hard to the point of a snort on occasion.

"Phoebe," Paige said as this may make things worse.

"I can't help it, they want to get so far away from each other but they can't because they're on a piece of land the size of a bed," Phoebe said through her laughs. Piper and Prue both knew she was right but neither one of them were ready to admit it as Phoebe could not stop laughing and now Paige was doing the same. Prue who was fuming and staring out over the water, saw lights in the distance.

"Guys be quiet," she said and Phoebe and Paige had to cover their mouths. "I think its a boat."

"What?" Piper said as she finally turned around and stood next to her. "We need to signal them," she said and began to look around for anything.

"I have a lighter," Phoebe said as they realized they had nothing to get their attention as night was now upon them.

"Start screaming," Prue said and they all were yelling at the top of their lungs in hopes to get the attention of the boat. "Please work," she said and they could see the lights coming towards them.

"Oh thank god," Phoebe said as the air boat pulled up next to them.

"What are you doing out here?" the man asks.

"Stranded can you take us to town?" Prue asks and saw dead alligators probably 10 in total in the boat.

"Sure climb aboard," the wife said and they all got on.

After they all got settled while the rain began to dissipate. The man turned the boat and headed back the direction he was coming. "We need to drop these off first but then we will get you back to town," he said as the sisters were now smiling.

Paige leaned over to Phoebe and whispered," I thought alligator season was over?"

"No offense Paige but I don't care," Phoebe whispered back.

"So how did you get stuck out here?" the woman asked.

"Took a wrong turn," Prue replied.

"It can happen out here," the man said as they pulled up to a house on stilts that has seen better days. They pulled up to the dock and they helped them offload the alligators and put them into a large freezer. The alligators were small but the refrigerator was getting quite full.

"We need to refuel before heading in to town," the man said and went to the house with his wife while the other stayed on the dock.

Paige had a bad feeling for some reason as she looked at the freezer that had a alligator tail sticking out of it. "Guys I think they are poachers," she whispered.

"Paige I don't care if they are Satanists, they are getting us back to civilization," Piper whispered back while clenching her jaw.

"Why would they pick us up if they were worried about us saying anything?" Phoebe asks.

"I don't know maybe they thought we were the wildlife preserve people," Paige replied.

"Who apparently can't find their way around the swamp," Prue said sarcastically as the couple came out of the house carrying gas.

"Shut up and let them just think we are stupid," Piper whispered.

The man stepped onto the boat and filled the gas tank while the woman got on to help.

"You have no idea how much we appreciate this," Prue said while the man put the lid back on the gas and then stood quickly and fired his hand gun. It hit Prue in the shoulder and sent her off the dock into the black water.

"Prue!" Piper yelled and was about to jump in after her but felt a sharp pain in the back of her head and then blackness.

"What is wrong with you!" Phoebe yelled as Piper fell unconscious in front of her. Paige could see Prue struggling to get out of the water and she was also about to jump in, when she felt a sharp pain in her leg and then saw the man pointing a gun at her. She never heard the shot but felt the sting. "Oh my god," Phoebe said and she had no choice but to rush him. She did not get far when she was hit over the head by the woman with a long pipe. The man walked over to the side of the dock and pointed the gun at Prue and was about the fire again, but Paige managed to take him off his feet by doing a leg sweep. Prue went under the surface as Paige was hit across the head with the pipe. The man stood and could no longer see Prue in the black water.

"We need to take them to the shed and find out what they know," the woman said.

"What about her?" he asks while looking into the water.

"The gators will get her," the woman replied as she believed that Prue either was already taken as she could see a few in the distance or she drowned.

I was thinking of doing another one for Alaska. But it would take legs during season three after the power outage episode and Leo would be with them. There would be no Paige in that one. Tell me what you think?
