Ok sorry it has been so long, I needed some time to come back to this one. Had a bit of writers block. So we are just weeks from Nationals and in Ch 6 Puck and Quinn joined Rachel, Kurt and Santana in NY and they were debating songs for New Directions to do at Nationals. This chapter is about where Movin Out was so it will feature Billy Joel music but I've made a change here and there and Puck and Quinn are still in NY too.
"Ok so 'One Sweet Day' will be their ballad. But they need to flank it with something that has a strong beat that they can dance to." Kurt said
"Something kick ass." Puck said
"Something to set the audience on fire." Santana said
Kurt's phone started ringing.
"Hang on everyone that is Blaine's ringtone!" Kurt went off to his room to talk to Blaine.
"FIRE! Santana you are a genius! And it's a perfect homage to Mr. Shue! And the other song is for Finn!" Quinn was suddenly really excited.
"Ok Quinn tell us what you've got." Rachel said as Kurt came back in.
"That was Blaine, Mr Shue just told him and Sam that they are doing Billy Joel this week and they are putting together a song to do tomorrow before they leave to come here. Blaine has his NYADA audition and Sam is coming along. I can't wait!" Kurt squealed.
"Well then this song will fit with their theme this week. Mr Shue is a history teacher and he went to McKinley in the 90's when this song was hot. Brittany told me he used this song earlier this year in his class. Billy Joel's epic hit, 'We Didn't Start The Fire'! It's got a beat they can dance to and they can split up the verses so that it features all of them!" Quinn said.
"Quinn that is amazing and perfect you're right! They can honor both of their Glee leaders in one competition. That's two down we'll just have to come up with one more." Rachel said.
"Well probably not tonight. It's getting late. We all should get some rest. Quinn and I have to head out tomorrow. She's got to get back to school and unfortunately I have to get back to Lima and get my stuff packed up. Two weeks and I'm at basic training in Texas." Puck said
"Puck are you sure you want to do that?" Kurt said
"Don't worry Kurt, I think it's exactly what I need to do. And by the way, I'm sorry that I was such a jerk during Finn's memorial. I was in a bad place and the only people who ever had luck with getting my head on straight weren't there. Finn was the guy who always set me on the right track and without him I was lost." Puck said
"Don't mention it. I wasn't exactly at my best either. Finn was my brother, well not by blood but in all the other important ways and I knew he was that for you too and sometimes I forget that." Kurt said.
"I am so happy you two got that out of the way now I'm off to bed. Puck, Quinn if you want to come to the diner for breakfast before you go I can get you up when I leave?" Santana said
"Thanks Santana that would be good." Quinn said
"I'm beat too so I'm going to go to bed. I will see you guys in the morning before I go to rehearsal." Rachel said.
"You two going to be ok out here? I brought out a sleeping bag for Puck and there are some blankets on the couch for you Quinn." Kurt said
"No worries bro we're good out here." Puck said
"Well everyone's gone but us." Quinn said a few moments later.
"Quinn-maybe we should talk about that kiss at your door?" Puck asked
"Puck it was a kiss that's all." Quinn said.
"No. It's about time that the two of us faced the facts that there are things between us and a kiss is never just a kiss with us. We have something between us and it's about time we were both adults about it. So I am putting it out there. I'm going to be in Texas for basic and then Mississippi for training but I want to come and see you whenever I have the chance Quinn. I want to explore whatever this is that has been building up for too long." Puck said.
"Well that was unexpected. Noah Puckerman actually acting like an adult? This is new and it's kind of turning me on." Quinn said slyly
"Well you know-" Puck started but was cut off by Quinn's mouth planted firmly on his.
"Does that mean that you're willing to give it a go with me?" Puck asked after the kiss ended.
"It means Puck that maybe you should stay with me tomorrow night in New Haven before you go because there are things I want to do to you that I don't want to happen on a couch or in a sleeping bag on the floor." Quinn whispered.
"I'll take that as a yes." Puck leaned in for another kiss.
The next morning Rachel got up and found everyone already in the kitchen. Santana was in her red diner outfit and Kurt was busy fixing things up for Blaine and Sam's visit. Puck and Quinn were in the living room waiting for Santana.
"Well you guys thank you so much for coming. The blankie, Quinn I know that it was your 'piece' of Finn and I am so thankful that you were willing to give it to me. I was going through some things and I found something for you too. You deserve to have something that was his too." Rachel produced a small box and handed it to Quinn. Quinn opened it quietly.
"Rachel. This is perfect." Quinn said holding up a simple tie. It was the tie that Finn had worn to her house when Finn had sung "Having My Baby" to her and outed her pregnancy to her parents.
"And Puck I didn't forget you. This wasn't Finn's but I hope you like it." Rachel said.
Puck opened a tissue wrapped frame. In the frame was a picture that Rachel had taken of him and Finn at Graduation. At the bottom of the frame there was a small plaque that read "Dude, you're my wingman."
"Rachel this is perfect. It will go with me everywhere." Puck said brushing a tear out of his eye.
"Ok well I guess this is goodbye for now, but Quinn I hope that you might be able to clear some time to go back to Lima with us to help with Nationals?" Rachel asked
"Of course, in fact I may even have to go to LA and see them pull this off." Quinn assured her.
"Ok you two we need to get over to the diner and get you fed so you can get the train!" Santana said
"Bye guys!" Kurt said giving Puck and Quinn each a quick hug.
"Bye you two. Travel safe." Rachel said
After Santana led Puck and Quinn out Rachel went to get a bowl of cereal but was cut off by Kurt who had been cooking.
"No no no. You are not feeding my nephew cold cereal before you go down to that theater. I know you told me that the doctor suggested adding eggs into your diet even though you are vegan so I decided to make you a veggie omelet. Just give it a try please?" Kurt said
"Kurt it smells amazing. Cheese too?" Rachel asked
"Yes that was on the list of things the doctor wanted you to eat too. You need the protein and calcium." Kurt said
Rachel knew he was right so she sat down and took a bite. Kurt had filled the omelet with green peppers, onions, black olives and mushrooms that he had sautéed to perfection. It was one of the best things she had ever tasted.
"Kurt this is amazing. I may never go back to full vegan." Rachel said devouring it.
"Well I have to take care of both of you. Finn would never forgive me if I didn't." Kurt said
When she'd finished Rachel grabbed her purse to head out.
"Wait. LUNCH. Eggplant parmesan." Kurt handed her a Tupperware container.
"Kurt when did you find the time?" Rachel asked.
"I got up early. Anxious to see Blaine and Sam when they get here. Will you be back by then?" Kurt said
"Yes, I just have to go in for a few hours for costume fittings before little Finn gets too big. I'll be back in time to welcome them properly." Rachel said.
"Good. And Blaine said he wanted to warm up his voice before tomorrow so I thought maybe we could get him to sing tonight at the diner? And I hope you don't mind but I told him that we would both go with him to his audition tomorrow?" Kurt said
"Ahhh so the food was to butter me up too? I'm kidding, of course I can make time. Believe it or not I have time tomorrow." Rachel said
That afternoon Blaine and Sam arrived and the gang was all together. They went to the diner and Blaine sang Billy Joel's "River of Dreams" perfectly as usual. Afterwards they were all sitting at the loft talking about Nationals.
"So we have come up with two songs for Nationals for Mr Shue." Rachel said
"Rachel that is amazing and they are perfect. Finn and Mr Shue being honored in song. But what about a third number?" Blaine asked
"Well we are at a bit of a roadblock there." Rachel said
"Yes I mean it has to be spectacular. You open with the Billy Joel, follow with the Mariah/Boys 2 Men and then you've got to really seal it with a fantastic knock them dead number." Kurt said
"Something that shows everyone that New Directions are the champions." Sam said.
"Well maybe we are going about this the wrong way. Maybe we should wait and see what the New Directions want to do for the final song." Blaine said pinching the bridge of his nose, a sure sign that everyone was getting too stressed out about the set list.
"Yes, let's change the subject. What about tomorrow at NYADA Blaine? Are you excited, nervous?" Kurt asked
"Well not really I think I have a pretty good handle on it actually after singing tonight. And NYADA isn't the only school I'm applying to, just in case." Blaine said
"Well you shouldn't worry, of course you'll get in! Rachel and I have talked you up so much that you're a shoe-in!" Kurt exclaimed
"I know but I want to have my options just in case." Blaine said
"What about you Sam? What are you going to do after graduation?" Santana asked
"That's easy, I'm meeting with a modeling agency tomorrow. I'm going to take my rockin bod and make it as a model." Sam said
For once Santana was speechless
