Kate's POV
I looked at Him with fear but at the same time I was curious to what just happened. I had so many questions that could not be answered at the current moment. I put all of that to the side and went to the bathroom. I closed the door and sat down on the john. I was patiently waiting to be overtaken with pain but it never came. I was relieved that it was gone, the agony, the suffering all of it. My life was once again normal. I got done doing my business and flushed the toilet. I left the bathroom, closing the door behind me. I was finally happy but i was too curious to what Humphrey did to me. I brushed the thought off and went back to work.
A few hours later...
I was now at home from a long day of work. It had been a good day but also a weird one. I went into the back room and grabbed something to eat. I turned on the radio and began to eat. as i was eating, i began to think about how Humphrey helped me with my problem. "I'm going to give him something" I thought. So i finished eating and went into the kitchen. I looked all over for something for him but couldn't find anything. "Darn" I thought. "Maybe he would like my famous cornbread" I asked out loud. I looked for some cornbread mix but I was out. "Really?" I said sarcastically. "Im going to take the day off tomorrow and get some errands done" I said to myself. after getting comfy I laid down and went to sleep.
The next day...
I woke up feeling great for the first time in a while. I went to the phone and i called work. "Hey im going to take the day off sick can you guys hold the fort for today?...Thanks...Im sure i will" I said then hung up the phone. I got myself ready for the day then left my den. I went to Winston and Eve's place cause he was off today just to see how Eve was doing today. I arrive at there den, Winston and Eve were outside enjoying the day. "Hi Winston, hello Eve. how y'all doing today?" I asked respectively. "oh hello Kate, I have been doing pretty good other than these blasted headaches I have been getting lately" Eve said rubbing her head slightly. "Well i'm sure it will go away sometime" I replied with a fake smile. "Hey Kate what brings you here on this fine day?" Winston asked curiously. "Well I got this friend of mine, and he did something good for me and now I don't know how to repay him" I explained. Winston and Eve looked at each other then looked back at Kate with a slight smile. "What?" I asked with an awkward look. "Make your friend your famous corn bread." Winston asked. "I'm out of cornbread mix." I replied. "We got some unused cornbread mix in the den you can have" Eve said taking a drink of some tea. "Thanks guy's. I am sure he will be thankful." I said as I went into their den and grabbed a box of cornbread mix. "I'll see you later Eve. See you tomorrow at work Winston." I said as I headed home.
I walked into my home and went into the kitchen and put my ingredients on a table nearby. I preheated my oven to 350 degrees and began mixing my ingredients together to form a dough type mix. I put the soon to be cornbread into the over and then set the timer. A few minutes later it was finished and the den smelled heavenly. I wrapped the cornbread in some paper towels and put them in the refrigerator. I could tell that tomorrow was going to be a good day. Later that evening I sat down next to the radio. I turned it on to take some things off my mind. I listened to it for about an hour then I got ready for bed. I turned off all the lights and I went into my bedroom. I got in my bed and went to sleep.
I woke up the next morning and got out of bed. the sun was shining and the birds were chirping. I went out to the pond to rid myself of yesterdays stenches. I got my uniform on and went into the kitchen. I grabbed the cornbread and I put it in my lunchbox and I was out the door. a few minutes later I arrived at the prizon. I walked over to E block and walked through the door. I stopped short of the mile and took out the cornbread. I put my lunchbox on the desk and walked over to Humphrey's cell. "I'm smelling me some cornbread" Humphrey said in a soft tone. "It's my way of thanking you" I replied. "For what?" He asked giving me a confused look. "For helping me" I explained. "Helping you with what?" He asked again. "You know, for helping me with my problem" I whispered to him gesturing to my lower region. "Oh no problem" He said as he remembered what he did for me. I gave him the cornbread and he gladly took it. "Thank you" He said then he took a bite. "Hey Humphrey that cornbread smells really nice over here" Shakey said almost sounding like he was begging for a peace. "It's yours Humphrey. you can due as you please with it." I told him. He broke of a peace of cornbread and handed it to me. "This is for Shakey and his little friend." He whispered to me. I walked over to Shakey's cell and handed him the cornbread. "Courtesy of the man across the way." I said. "Thanks Humphrey." Shakey moderately yelled. "No problem." Humphrey replied" and begun to dig in. "Hey, Im gonna gets some to ain't I?" Scar asked. "It's yours Humphrey you can due as you please with it." I said. "I think I will just keep the rest" He replied the turned to go sit on his bed. "HEY! Don't you hold out on me! you big dumb coyote!"
