Okay so you guys wiill have to forgive me for grammar mistakes, punctuation and spelling. I did this on a phone in which writing an a makes it Appear twice. In other words the keypaad is jqacked up. But I still hope you enjoy this chapter^^ read on and review please!
I woke up suddenly when there wasn't an annoying beeping. Usually I woke up to the most annoying sound in aall of Dauntless: the buzzer of the alarm my grandmother set. Usually it meant a pop quiz of what I'd learned the day before.
There was no alarm this time. Only dim light reminding me that I was underground. I looked around and froze, looking down and seeing the straangest thing ever: an empty bed. It was obvious I was in someone's bed. Except that someone wasn't there at this point. Instinctively, I stupidly pulled up the covers to check if I was naked or not. This wasn't the first time I'd gotten drunk, but thaat time I woke up naked. Satisfied with what I saw, I got of the bed, ignoring the dizziness that almost made me topple over.
Someone caught me though. "Easy there."
I moved away in surprise and shot a finger at him, "YOUU?!"
Eli raised a questioning eyebrow, "Me, yeah. I see you're all better so go get ready. You're traaing with the transfers todaay."
"Why?" I tried to ignore that fact that I was in Eli's room.
"Something came up. There was a hack in the system and-"
"Got it," I nodded not wanting him to explain further because I probably wouldn't understand.
"Out you go. You owe me 30 bucks, for the drinks you did not pay for."
I didn't know what to say as he pushed me out the door except, "Sorry."
"It's all good. You almost made it one of my best nights," he grinned holding the door knob. Before he closed the door, I asked:
"How?" He raised his eyebrows once more before saying, "By letting me do this." He kissed me. Again.
Holy Moly. I got even more dizzy as I felt his hand on my cheek, "Jack is a jerk. Be careful with him," he told me before closing the door.
I was left staring at an oak colored door. One word came in check though: Jack. "Wha...t?"
Right. The effects of a hangover. I forgot Jack was in charge of all the transfers. Hell it just dawned to me that I'd have a series of physical activities to deal today. This could jeapodize my entire initiation!
The door I was staring at opened again and Eli smiled, "You were supposed to be in the training room 5 minutes aago."
For my own saake, I started running. I raan like Death was after me. I threw open the door of the training room hoping Jack hadn't arrived yet. My luck must've ran out after Eli closed the door. Either that or I left it in his room because Jack was standing there in mid sententence in front of all the initiates, teaansfer And Dauntless born alike.
"I'm waiting."
"For what?" I was genuinely confused.
"An excuse." "What about a reason?"
"Unless you had a near to death experience, anything that comes out of your mouth is an excuse," Jack said trying to be patient but I could see the anger.
I smiled, "I woke up-"
"Stand over there," Jack pointed. I headed over and he took a gun from one of the initiates.
The Amity transfer stepped up, "Come on, dude."
"Unless you want to join her, back off," Jack warned. He turned back to me, "Dodge the bullets."
I shrugged, "How many?"
He glared, "Until I think you've learned your lesson."
The lanky Candor looked at Jack, "Maybe this is too harsh."
"You can join her if you want." The guy looked aat me, his blue eyes meeting mine-
Crazy as a Fox-!
I gasped to catch my breath since the air seemed to haave left my lungs at that moment. Jack's eyes came back to me as if judging if I was good now. The lanky Candor smiled and walked to staand with me.
Jack narrowed his eyes, "What's your name?"
"I already-"
"Not you. You're the flat chested girl, I'm talking about him," he waved the gun caasuaally to the boy.
"Matt."
Matthew, the voice said in my heaad.
I glared hard at the boy. I knew the cards well and new the calls by heart. He saws plaaying a prank on me, however he was speaking through his mind.
"Well, Matt. Ice here needs to thank you because you just saved her butt."
I shifted my glared to Jack, "What's your problem?" I marched up to him, "You pick on me for no apparent reason. What did I ever do to you?"
"You opened your mouth now go stand with the others," he leaned in, his grey eyes hard and impossible to read, "You're not that speciaal. No one is."
I was ready to maake as witty comeback but something happened in my heaad and I ended up smiling softly, "Thaank you for giving me a peek of whats in your heart. I'll play nice now," I reached up to touch his nose but he grabbed my finger.
He looked at my eyes, his moving astound my face then let my finger go.
"Like I said, back with the rest," he nodded at Matt, "You too Matty."
By the time we staarted doing actual physical work, the hangover had gone away. Jack was tougher and better than Eli in many ways such as demonstrating, teaching, explaining and getting the others to follow. If the Dauntless born stuck with him, they were definaately going to make it through initiation. Everything came naturally to us while the transfers had to practice over and over again. Except Matt. And of course Finn. Matt just...did qas if he was also a Dauntless born. Finn on the other hand would just smile mischeviously and murmer things.
In the end, I thought everyone even all the transfers did pretty good. It was afternoon by the time we left so most headed for lunch.
Jack waited until we all left before closing the door. I watched. I would try to be friends, mostly because my initiation might depend on it and because he was an absolute mystery. I loved mysteries.
"Hey."
"Hi. Whaat do you want?"
"No nicknames?"
"You don't seem to like the truth very much," he smiled as we walked together. We were really walking together and not fighting or insulting or strangling each other. Not yet anyway.
I rolled my eyes, "It's offensive." We came to the Cafeteria and got our food. Jack gave me look when I followed him to the back, "What? I can't sit with my instructor?" "He's your instructor," I turned to see Jack pointing towards Eli who was glaring our way.
I looked back at Jack with a smile. He frowned, "Be careful with that guy. He's not the nicest person here."
"Anyway," his eyes turned into a glare so hard, I Iooked to the side before turning back to him, "I've given you a chance to...tolerate you. Don't blow it."
I looked at my nails, not remmembering them being so long, "You tolerate Matt."
"He's earned it before I even offered it."
I looked at my nails interestingly. I was as about to make a realization but was interrupted by Jack asking, "What is that?" he frowned at my arm.
I lowered it immediately. "None of your business," I covered my entire arm with the sleeves.
"We're going back to the nasty bit now?"
I sighed. I drew on my arms. The cards...the one on my arm was of as boy with a dog ready to walk off a cliff. The Fool. I've been thinking about him lately...nit to mention Matt's awful joke on sounding the call of the Fool. He must've seen the drawing.
"I want to get to know you more, but I just want you to shut up," Jack sighed too, as if it was some major decision he couldn't conclude at.
I stood up, "I don't need this." "Interesting?"
"You're a sadist aren't you?"
"And shut up. You see my dilemma?"
"Poor you," I rolled my eyes checking my fingernails and seeing them return to normal size.
I was distracted most if the time I was talking to Jack because I kept feeling weird, like something was off. We talked about the food, the people, insulted each other at times, but I got to see that Jack wasn't a jerk. He was an ass. A big one too. But I could see things in his eyes now. He was loyal. Once you were on his good side, you were there until you break his trust. I saw kindness and caution, as if he was picking his words selectively. There was also a sparkle when I asked if he baad any siblings. He said his sister killed herself after being sexually and physically abused by their neighbors, Vincent and someone else I couldn't remember.
In the end, we talked for a very long time. It was 8 by the time the light left his eyes aand became hard again."Tomorrow, I'll learn about you," he left me sitting there alone.
I sat there for a while, deciding to go through the events of the day. Almost every single one was weird. It was kind of sad the only not weird event was waking up hungover and training. I
looked up as someone sat opposite to me, "Hey," Eli smiled.
I smiled back. How could I not? He was...shinning he looked like really light milk chocolate and I really wanted aq taste. Not that way.
Justooking at him makes me want a chocolaate baar, "Do you need a place for the night?"
"Why?" I asked pretending I didn't know.
"I'm renting half my bed for free to aanyone who is claustrophobic."
I bit my lip and nodded, "Sure."
He chuckled, "Well come on!" We raan to his room and fell on the bed laughing. Very hard. We lay there after the laughter died out.
"Ice, come here," I rolled over and put a hand over my mouth as a squeal escaped me. I was surprised, taken back when Eli pulled me into his arms. He kissed the space by my ear, throwiing me in aa fit of giggles.
Eli chuckled, "My Ice."
I didn't know how I felt about that. It seemed sudden. But I went with it because right now, it felt good.
"Why didn't you instruct today?" I asked quietly as I laid my hands on his chest.
"Well...there was something wrong with the chips."
Chips were things everyone in this...city had installed in them from birth. They identified who a person was and tracked them down. Well, my grandmother took mine out a long time ago. She did the surgery herself when my mother was gone and took it out. Up til this day, she hasn't told my mom I don't have a chip. I don't care though, it makes me different.
Special.
Take that, Jack.
"What?" I asked curiously.
"The information on every chip in all the factions were downloaded to an unknown source, basically stolen."
"So?" He sighed, "Those chips can control a person. they were primaarily installed to maintain control over the population if something went wrong. Now its in the wrong hands. The chips can...kill people. Electricute the brain and poof, dead."
".Oh."
"They needed me to track the signal because the information wasn't physically downloaded. It was signalled."
"Look aat your Erudite go," I smiled and moved up a little so I could see his face.
He looked at me with those eyes then smiled slowly, "Enough talk," he kissed me softly. I let him. It was simple yet sweet. But as the kiss deepened and the closer Eli pulled me in, something in me tensed. I ignored it.
A hot, nice guy is kissing me. What New generation of stupid would I be to push him away?
I kissed back willingly and as his lips moved across my cheek to my ears and eventually my neck, mine moved to his. His hand surpported my back while his other haand waandered down my body. The tension built up but once again, I ignored it. Eli's hand slowly touched my hip which was bare due to the shortness if my top. He moved the shirt higher and I smiled slowly against his neck.
His hands went up and he said, "Let's go all the way."
I struggled, agaainst myself mostly. Instead of saaying no, I instead slurred, "Come, touch. But you shall pay the price."
Eli replied breathlessly, "I shall."
I opened my eyes and they settled his bathroom mirror. I stared at my face as Eli unzipped my pants.
"No..." I whispered, first to the reflection if who was staring back at me. If he heard, Eli didn't reply only to move faster and tasking of my paants.
This time, I pushed him awaay, "No!"
Eli laid back down and rolled his eyes, "Come on, Ice. Don't you want it?"
I stared in obvious shock. Eli was laying there is if I was the biggest disappointment, "What?"
"I thought you were true Dauntless. I guess I was wrong, " him saying it hurt less thaan when Jack sqaid it. Yet I slapped him anywaay.
"You're saying becaause I refuse to have sex with you, I'm not Dauntless? No wonder you left Erudite becaause there's as certain limit of stupidity they can accept."
Eli glared aat me, "Look-"
"No, you look. I don't think you understand. You, dumb. Me, no listen to a you say anymore," I stood up and put my paants on right, "P.S. I'm transferring to the traansfer initiation. You're too much of an idiot for me to look at or taalk to."
I felt 0% bad about whaat I was saaying because they were true. He tried to hurt my pride as a Dauntless. I'll hurt his as everything he is. I swung open the door and my mouth fell open. Jack was standing with his hand in a fist as if he was ready to knock a second before I opened the door.
"Well...hi."
