I don't own Merlin or Doctor Who

Chapter 5

"Keep quiet. Someone might hear you."

"Oh. This is brilliant. Just brilliant." I was still smiling at Merlin and he was looking at me with disbelief. "What?" I said.

"Brilliant? No one has ever said that before when they find out." He said.

"How do they usually act?" I asked.

"Well, usually it's fear or I'll kill you or both." He said.

"Oh. Really? Why?" I asked.

"You don't know?" Merlin said, looking confused. "Magic is forbidden in Camelot, on penalty of death."

"It is? Well, now I can see why you were so nervous before."

"Yes. Now you won't tell anyone, will you?"

"No, of course not. I won't tell a soul. So... how does your magic work? Do you have to say spells?"

"Well... Uh, yeah, most of the time, but sometimes I don't have to." He said. I could tell he wasn't used to being asked questions concerning his magic.

"When do you not have to say a spell?"

"Uh. Well, if my emotions are really strong it kind of reacts to them."

"Will you show me some magic?"

"Oh! Uh? I guess." He held his hand out in front of him and said, "Forbearnan." His eyes flashed molten gold again and a small flame appeared in his hand.

"Wow!" I said, stepping closer. "What does it feel like in your hand?"

"It feels sort of warm, but it doesn't hurt."

When he finished talking, we heard a clang outside the door. Merlin signaled me to be quiet and whispered, "A-cwencan." His eyes flashed again and the fire in his hand went out.

Then he went to the door and opened it. Selina was standing in the doorway picking up a candlestick that she must have knocked off the table near my door.

"Oh. Sorry. I was just coming to talk to Erin and I...uh bumped into this." she said, putting the candlestick back on the table. "I can come back if you two are busy."

Merlin and I looked at each other and he said, "Oh, no. We were just talking and I was leaving." he walked towards the door, turned to me, and bowed. "Goodnight, your highness." Then he turned to Selina, did the same to her, and walked out of my room.

"Get in here," I barked at Selina and she complied. Then I went to the door, stuck my head out, and called after him, "Merlin, I said to call me Erin."

He turned back momentarily. Merlin smiled and with a mock bow, he said, "My apologies, Erin."

I came back into the room smiling and Selina asked "Why were you so mad?"

"Because you interrupted an important conversation, but I assume you know that." I said, crossing my arms with a smug smile.

"What are you talking about?"

"Oh come on. I saw your shadow outside the door for the last two minutes." I said.

"Alright. I heard. Is it for real though? He has magic."

"Yes," I said in hushed excitement. She smiled at me. It must have taken all of our strength not to squeal over the amazing fact that magic was real or that we've met the real Merlin and Arthur.

"It was amazing. You should've seen it. Just now he was holding a flame in his hand and it was one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen."

"Oh my God! We have to tell the Doctor." Selina said.

"I was thinking about that and I promised Merlin I wouldn't tell anyone. Plus, I think the Doctor's head would explode if we told him." Selina giggled at that thought. "Maybe we should tell him if the need arises."

"Agreed."

There was a knock at the door. I went and opened it. A young woman was standing in the doorway holding two plain dresses in her hand. She was very beautiful with her dark complexion and curly brown hair.

"Hello, my Lady. My name is Guinevere." I smiled when she said her name. "The Lady Morgana has asked me to help you any way I can while you are here, so I brought you a nightgown for tonight." She noticed Selina lingering behind me. "I have one for you to Miss. Do you need help changing into them?"

"Oh, no! We can do it ourselves. Thank you Guinevere. Goodnight." I said, taking the nightgowns from her.

"Goodnight," she said with a curtsy. I shut the door and turned to Selina

"Guinevere!" I said in hushed excitement.

"The Guinevere. The one who marries Arthur. This is just soo..." Selina said.

"Fantastic." I finished. There was another knock on the door. This time it was a young boy holding a tray of food. "Merlin said you requested food."

"Yes, thank you. Um... just set it down on the table." He did and then I said, "Thank you, again." He bowed and then left the room.

"Are you hungry?" I asked Selina.

"I'm starved. I haven't eaten since breakfast." We sat down at the table and started to eat. I had some sausage, chicken, and cheese and Selina is a vegetarian, so she ate some cheese and all of the tomatoes. We talked a little while we ate. When we were done Selina yawned, which forced me to as well."

"We should go to bed. We'll probably have a long day tomorrow." Selina said. There was only one divider in the room for us to get changed behind, so I let Selina get her nightgown on first. She changed into it and then I did the same with mine. Both nightgowns were short sleeved and made of a soft, warm fabric.

We both laid in my bed and decided to talk for a while. I told her about meeting Gaius and how Merlin used magic against the green monster. When I was finished, she looked at me with concern in her eyes. "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"Like what?"

"Like I'm going to drop dead any second now. I know what happened in the forest was scary, but you know I've been in worse situations because of my job." I am a Detective Inspector for Scotland Yard and because of that I have been in many dangerous positions. Selina being my best friend knew about all of them and had always hated my job because of it. We've had this conversation many times and Selina always won.

"I know, but you could have died Erin! And this was different. You didn't have your gun or your team to protect you." Selina said.

"I know. I know. I'll be more careful while we are here." See I told you she always won. I went over and hugged her. She was like a sister to me and I didn't like to upset her.

We started to talk again and eventually Selina fell asleep. I didn't wake her to tell her to go to her room because we have had a stressful day. I tried to sleep too, but I couldn't. I've always had trouble falling asleep in strange places. Once I couldn't stand looking at the ceiling anymore, I got up and walked to the window by my bed.

The window had a wonderful view of Camelot. The sun had set, but still I could see the town with all the people heading home or to a rather large building, which would most likely be the pub. The soldiers were walking around keeping watch. Suddenly I saw someone move out of the corner of my eye. It was a dark figure making its way toward the town. It started to run and only then did I realize that the figure was wearing a trench coat.

"Doctor?" I whispered to myself.
