Clouds rolled darkly overhead as the Survey Corps made their way back to the walls, and the sun was no where to be found, making it a bitterly cold return. Most of the Corps were huddled, out of formation in a clump of horses and green cloaks. The only outlier rode along the body wagon, where at least fifteen bodies, including that of one Hanji Zoe, laid in bloody stiffness.
Erwin knew that Levi wouldn't lose it right then and there. The storm raged behind his slate eyes and the thin line of his mouth suggested the holding back of an ugly, ugly scream, but Erwin knew it wouldn't happen there. Not when everyone was around to witness it.
God, but he looked horrible. Worse than the street rat that he had met so long ago. Worse than when Wall Maria had fallen. Worse than when his whole squad was slaughtered.
And so, when everyone was back to the headquarters, Erwin decided that he didn't hear the sound of breaking furniture and smashing walls and agonized wails and curses coming from Levi's dorm late that night. He decided that he didn't see the hollow look in the Corporal's eyes the next morning when his annoying scientist didn't bound into the mess hall.
