A/N So I choose to do "CrossRoads" from StayCalmForBTR and hopefully I did this justice! It was fun to write! Thanks for all of the reviews and requests guys!

"Kendall, do you even know why we have to get all dressed up tonight?" Katie wondered as she helped her older brother tie his red tie over his black button-down shirt. The bro-and-sis duo was currently getting gussied up in their bathroom. Kendall was finishing up applying aftershave and Katie turned to brush on a coat of mascara over her already long lashes.

"I'm just as confused as you are, baby sis," Kendall replied as he watched the pre-teen carefully apply her makeup. He briefly wondered just when she had become so grown up. "Mom just told me to cancel all plans because she was taking us out for a nice dinner, no reason behind it. Maybe she's just being nice?"

Katie shrugged doubtfully and slipped a black sequin sweater over her white, knee-length dress. "I don't think so Kendall. She's been acting secretive lately. She's hiding something."

"Mom doesn't keep secrets from us, Katie."

"She would only keep secrets from us if it's something that's against our own good to know," Katie said quietly.

"Kids, it's time to go!" Mrs. Knight's voice called to her children. Kendall sighed and tucked a loose curl of hair behind Katie's ear.

"Well, maybe whatever it is, she will tell us tonight."

Mrs. Knight beamed proudly when she saw Kendall and Katie in their nicest clothes with their hair done. She was sure she had the two most good looking kids on the planet. She couldn't wait to show them off to the certain someone awaiting the small family at the restaurant that she had made reservations for.

"You kids look perfect," she cooed. Kendall blushed, his dimples showing, while Katie rolled her eyes.

"Mom, can you tell us what is going on?" Kendall asked, plopping down on the couch. He attempted to place his feet on the coffee table, but his mother pushed his lanky legs off the table.

"Get your shoes off of their honey. And What, I can't just take my kids out for a nice dinner? "

"No," Katie answered bluntly. Kendall lightly elbowed her ribs, but he couldn't help but to agree with her. His mother was acting quite strange and different over the past few weeks. And a "nice dinner" in the Big Time Rush family usually just meant going to the local pizza joint on Friday night, never a fancy dinner in the middle of the week without the other ¾ of the band.

"Okay, okay. I have somebody I want you to meet tonight," Mrs. Knight admitted. Katie's jaw dropped.

"Like a date?" She shrieked. "Who?"

"I'm not saying anymore except for that you already actually know him. This night is very important to me guys. Please don't mess it up for me? Just give whatever happens tonight a chance. Promise?"

Kendall nodded, knowing just by looking his mother in his eyes that this was incredibly important to her. "Okay mom, we'll meet him and we will be on our best behavior. Right, Katie?"

2 pairs of eyes were on the youngster, who just scowled and said, "Oh God, it better not be Mr. Bitters."

Kendall was a bit anxious on the drive downtown to the upscale restaurant they would be dining in tonight. He was a bit hurt that his mom had kept her recent dating life a secret. He always shared everything with his family, why couldn't she do the same? And he was mostly anxious to meet her new beau. Kendall's automatic reaction was to dislike him, but he also knew that his mother was so dedicated to him and his friends and being a stage mom. She needed something to be hers. She needed a companion who wasn't a teenager. But still, he was not used to his mother dating so he didn't quite know how exactly to feel about this.

"Is he here?" Katie asked as they entered the busy, classy dining room. She craned her neck to see over the dozens of tables, looking a for single guy at a table.

"Yes, but he's at a table in the back for a private conversation. He wanted the quietest table."

Kendall and Katie both exchanged baffled looks as Mrs. Knight informed the hostess of their reservations.

The hostess led the Knights to a table in the far back of the restaurant. A man dressed in a suit and tie, with buzzed blonde hair immediately stood up to greet them. He was very tall and he smiled as he took in the sight of Kendall and Katie, who suddenly became slightly shy, which was something very unusual.

"Kendall, Katie… Hi," The man breathed out, staring at them as if he was in awe.

"Hi," Kendall said, deciding to ignore his nerves and how the stranger already knew who he was. He gazed at him as he shook Katie's hand, realizing there was something sort of familiar about the man.

"I'm Keith, everybody. Please, sit down," the man said. Kendall noticed he seemed a little nervous as well. When he glanced at his mother, she was also chewing her lip nervously, watching them all with almost tearful eyes.

"Um, have we met before?" Kendall spoke up as he sat down at the elaborately set dinner table.

Keith and Mrs. Knight both looked up at each other at the same time, somewhat startled.

"What is going on?" Katie mouthed.

"Well, we have, actually," Keith said gently, sucking in a deep breath in preparation of what he was about to say. "You haven't seen me in years. In fact you were only 6, Kendall. And Katie you were just a baby. I'm your father, guys."

In any normal circumstance, Kendall was usually the first one to act recklessly with anger. But in this instance, he sat numbly, staring at the man who claimed to be his father in absolute shock. And Katie was the one to follow in her brothers normal footsteps. The tiny teen got to her feet and shouted; "what?"

"Katie, ssh," Mrs. Knight warned when several tables nearby turned to look.

"No, don't tell me to hush! Why on earth would you think this would be okay, mom? I have spent my entire life getting used to not having a dad and now he comes back, after we finally started over and made things better for ourselves? What the hell is he doing here, anyway?"

"Katie!" Mrs. Knight scolded, hurt. She feared that her kids would react this way so she was hoping that bringing them to a public place would calm them. "Honey, sit down."

"I won't," Katie said stubbornly. She glanced at Kendall, who still sat frozen in his chair. She could not read the expression on his pale face.

"Please, listen, sometimes adults make mistakes and sometimes they have to be the bigger person and apologize to each other. What happened was a very long time ago-"

"Exactly," Katie said in an icy tone.

"I know it's been a while," Keith said. "But your mother and I want to make things work again. These past 12 years have been hell on soul living without you guys. I want to see you kids finish growing up and be there for you, and I want the love of my life back," he finished, looking over at Mrs. Knight, who looked near tears again.

"Well too late now," Katie said. "Kendall, take me home?"

Kendall blinked as if he was just woken up and nodded, taking his sisters hand in his. He stood up and took a breath to say something to Keith, anything, but no words could come out. Finally he just sighed and pulled Katie out of the restaurant to hail a cab to get home.

Katie stomped all the way to her bedroom, a stoic look etched upon her small, angelic features. Kendall probably looked about the same as his sister. He ignored confused and concerned glances from Logan, Carlos and James, who had arrived home while the Knight family was out, and made a beeline to their shared room. When the other guys deemed it safe to approach Kendall, they found him pretending to be fast asleep with the lights out. They knew he was still awake, but they also knew not to bother him.

1 week later and Kendall had still not spoken a word to his mother, although his friends were informed of what happened that night at the restaurant. Now, the 4 boys were gathered their favorite spot at the beach, a hidden little area among a bunch of rocks that blocked out the sound of normal life, so they were hidden from everything and could only see the waves on the ocean.

"He wants to move in guys," Kendall blurted out after several moments of silence.

"What? You mean the crib?" Carlos asked. "No way! You hardly even know him. We don't know him."

"I agree, the guy is a snake," Logan said. "And it is our crib, all of ours. He can't just barge in there like he owns the place."

Kendall ducked his head, knotting his long fingers into his blonde hair. "He's moving in next week guys. It's not our choice! He lost his job and now he's sweet talking my mom so he has a place to stay and I can see right through it!"

"But they aren't even married, are they?" James asked, completely confused and shocked that their perfect world was suddenly being rocked like this.

"Technically they are, when dad left us, that's literally what he did. No divorce, not even a goodbye. Just picked up and left. I've been trying my whole life to forget his cowardly existence and he just waltz's right in and takes over. I can't… I can't live with him guys."

"So what are we going to do?" Logan asked, and Kendall could feel a small smile tugging the corners of his mouth at the sound of "we". He knew that whatever decision he would make, his buds would be right there behind him supporting him no matter what.

Kendall reached into his back pocket and pulled out a pamphlet. He pointed at a small building on the magazine, which was circled with a yellow highlighter.

"It's closer to Rocque records and the beach. We would have to share a room, but we are used to that. It's pricey, it would be about 300 dollars a month a piece, but we are in one of the most popular boy bands on the planet…"

"It's doable," Logan murmured, although he was a bit intimidated at the thought of living on his own. He looked up at his other friends to see they looked equally terrified. But they looked excited, too.

"Logan and I are 18. We have enough money. I think it's time to move on," Kendall said.

"And move out of the crib," Carlos said sadly. "But it's either that, or live with your dad."

"It's a hard decision, but we can handle it. I mean we are international popstars as Kendall said. Moving back home isn't an option, either. Maybe this is a blessing in disguise," Logan said. "I mean, this will be the first step in starting our adult lives. We can't stay at the crib forever."

"When should we tell Mrs. Knight?" James asked, dreading the answer. He was afraid his surrogate mother would have a mental melt down or worse-cry.

"Now," Kendall answered.

Another week later and the 4 teenagers were nestled into their new apartment. It was a simple, small apartment, but it was nice and had a beautiful view of the beach. Mrs. Knight had moved back to Minnesota with Katie to renew her vows with Keith, leaving Kendall, James, Carlos and Logan alone in LA.

Kendall kicked up his feet onto his glass coffee table, with his shoes on, and took a sip of his beer with a grin on his face, watching James beat Carlos in their video games and Logan reading a book, curled up in his leather chair in the corner. It was perfect, and Kendall was sure it was the best choice he had ever made. He knew there would be several more important crossroads in his life he would have to choose, but as long as he had his buds with him, he didn't really mind.

A/N Thanks for reading! I love writing about Kendall and his dad clashing, and I had a dream that the BTR clan moved into their own apartment with no adults and they could do whatever they wanted so that's where that came from. I wonder what kind of silly antics they can come up with living in a place on their own? Next up I will be taking ideas for the letter "D" and only for "D" I can't wait to see what you all might come up with! XO!
