A FEW WEEKS LATER

...

Emma stared at David's face compassionately. "You're an idiot," she says for what is probably the billionth time.

David smiles weakly from his spot on his bed. "You say that an alarmingly large amount, my dear girl," he chuckles.

Emma smiles fondly. She had found him, almost dead, and had managed to get him safely home. How she did it, she'll never know, but it had almost felt like an invisible force had helped with the weight, and pushed her home. Like a wind.

But that's insane.

Emma shakes her head mildy, before smiling down at David again.

"What happened?" David asks curiously.

Emma raises an eyebrow. "What, Father?"

David has an odd look on his face. "I know you're probably not comfortable talking about it, but I need to know." He struggles to sit up, pushing away Emma's fretting hands and wincing slightly. "What happened in that..that castle? What did that...monster do to you?"

Emma winces at the word 'monster'. "He's not a monster," she says automatically.

David looks at her incredulously. "He kidnapped you, Emma!"

"Father, you stole from him!"

David sighs, and rubs his eyes. Even though it's only been a few months, he looks decades older. "I didn't want to give you to Baelfire anymore," he says solemnly. "I thought the castle was empty," he coughs, swatting at Emma's hands again, "and there were jewels, jewels that could have bought our way out of my debt." He winces. "No marriage necessary."

Emma smiles sadly. "Father..."

David looks at her gravely. "I'm sorry, my dearest Emma. I have been a terrible father."

"No-"

"Yes. I have. But..." he straightens. "I want to make it up to you." He smiles tentatively, full of hope, and fear of rejection by his own daughter. "I want to get to really know you."

Emma gives another tiny smile.

"Alright," she whispers. "What do you want to know?"

...

David sits through her story, her whole story, silent as the grave. Had his daughter really gone through all that? Where was he, in all these fragments of tear-stained memories? Gone.

"Emma," he whispers.

She looks at him, obviously terrified at the prospect of having opened up so much, and David pulls her close.

"That...man...Killian. He treated you far better than anyone ever has." He gives a humorless, sad little chuckle. "It's ironic, is it not, that the one we thought was a monster, would be your destruction...was your salvation?"

"Yeah," Emma whispers, and David knows.

David knows how she sees that man.

"Your mother would have liked him," he says softly.

Emma's head snaps up. David never talks about her mother.

Instead of speaking, they just hold each other, completely exhausted, because tearing down so many walls is a lot of work.

...

The door slams open, ruining the perfect moment.

"WELL, WELL, WELL," Baelfire says. "What do we have..." he belches. "Here?"

Emma stands. "Get. Out." She snarls.

"MMMMMMM...No."

She sighs, feeling the familiar anger that always accompanies Baelfire. "What do you want?"

He walks up to her, and drags a finger across her chin. "Not here, for ...pleasure," he purrs. He abruptly pulls back and puffs out his chest. "Official business." Procuring a scroll from his tasteless cloak, he reads, "By decree of the Dark One, Rumplestiltskin, David Nolan has been proclaimed a lunatic and hazard to those around him, and is hereby sentenced to a lifetime in prison."

Emma gasps, and David growls. Yanking the scroll from his smug, self-righteous hands, she reads frantically. "Surely," she chokes out. "Surely, there..there must be some way to eradicate this?" Looking up in horror, she adds, "Any way at all?"

Baelfire smiles, and Emma gets a terrible feeling in the pit of her stomach. "Weeellll,...," he drawls. "I suppose I could let this slip..."

"Thank you-"Emma begins to gush.

"If you marry me."

...

Emma almost gags on her heart, she really does. "W-What?!"

He kneels on one knee, smirking up at her as though he is positive her answer is affirmative. "What do you say? Marry me?"

Emma smacks him across the face. HARD.

"WHAT HAS MY FATHER DONE THAT EVEN POINTS TO LUNACY?!" she shrieks.

"He spoke of monsters," he spits, little crimson droplets staining her dress. "As though they were real. He caused a disturbance, well ,everywhere. He is a disgrace and a danger. He's CRAZY."

Emma breathes hard. Suddenly, and idea forms as she sees all the people gathering outside. Rushing to the door, she grabs the mirror and rose off of the desk. Stepping outside, she holds up the mirror.

"THERE IS A MONSTER!" She shouts. All eyes turn to her.

"THERE IS A MONSTER!" she repeats. "BUT THERE'S NOT. HE'S ONLY A MAN. BUT MY FATHER IS NOT MAN EXISTS AND I CAN PROVE IT!" Holding up the rose in her other hand, she yells, "THIS IS THE ROSE HE GAVE ME." Letting it go, she lets it float in the air, and listens to all the gasps of awe. Breathing raggedly, she whispers to the mirror, "Show me Killian."

A view of Killian, sitting alone and staring at the wall appears. Why is he staring at a wall? In her..old...room? She starts as she realizes he's staring at her swan wallpaper. Swan.

"He didn't want me to go," she whispers, and lets out a single happy tear and begins to stroke the image.

Baelfire notices, and narrows his eyes.

She holds up the mirror.

Baelfire stomps over, ripping the rose out of the air.

"THIS IS NOTHING!" He shouts. "NOTHING BUT PROOF THAT SHE...SHE IS CRAZY AS WELL!"

He turns to her, eyes burning with hatred. "Me or the rose, sweetheart."

"I could never love you," she spits.

His eyes narrow.

"Fine."

He viciously rips at the rose, tearing off the majority of the petals.

Suddenly, a howl, earth shattering and soul piercing, echoes through the night.

"Look," a man whispers. "The mirror."

Emma pulls the mirror down to see Killian howling in pain, clawing at his face, smashing into things. Running into a vase, he throws it across the room, and screams like a banshee.

"Killian..." she whispers.

The rose.

It's cursed.

His lifeline.

"I'll be gone."

"My soul will be dead."

It's cursed.

He's cursed.

The petals hold him together.

And Baelfire is ripping them out.

With a battle cry she grabs the rose and strokes it, whimpering, even as they drag David away.

Even as Baelfire smashes the mirror.

Organizes a hunt party.

"KILL THE MONSTER."

The curse is the monster, you fools.

Not the man.

Never the man.

What is your curse, Baelfire?

Why are you a monster?

Oh, Killian, Killian. My poor, broken, beautiful Killian.

She suddenly stands with a beautiful fervor. "I will find you, Killian. I will always find you."

She darts into the night, following the search party's cries.

KILL THE MONSTER.

A/N:

Well. That was a lovely chapter. Baelfire's quite a chap, he is.

I swear this show will be the death of me.

Well, as this fic is almost over, I shall be starting a series of connected song fics from Killian's point of view, mostly angst (sorry) but all's well that end's well. :)

But I would also enjoy some of your feedback, as to what you would like to hear from me! So if you could send some ideas, PLEASE DO SO. :)

I love you guys for real. :'( To quote ten... "I don't want to go."
