Hold Back Your Farewell
Chapter 3: How Many More Times?
"Goten! Goten! Goten! Goten! Goten! Goten! Where are you!?" called out a five year old Pan in tears.
Pan was dressed in a strapless pink dress, a red fleece jacket, and a pair of red flip flops.
Her black hair was in a high ponytail tied with a red ribbon.
She was lost in the forest somewhere around her house. She was with her brother Goten, but he went off to find her favorite airplane that Gohan got for her for her birthday this year.
Pan did not hear from Goten for a while now.
She had been wondering on her own since then. It felt like forever to her, but it was only about an hour and a half. She never felt so alone and scared. She wanted her brother. She was walking without any idea where she was headed.
Her black wolf tail slumped behind her as she walked.
She was sobbing as she walked rubbing her onyx eyes with her hands.
Pan was so afraid.
She wanted her mom.
"Why are you crying?" came a voice of a young boy.
The voice sounded harsh and annoyed.
Pan stopped moving and brought her hands down from her onyx eyes.
Pan slowly brought her head up through her sobs.
She saw a boy that was her age.
He was wearing a grey t-shirt, a blue hoodie, a pair of grey jeans, and a pair of black converse.
"I can't find my brother…" Pan said to him in between sobs.
The boy rolled his eyes with a groan.
Pan let out a sniffle as she walked closer to the boy.
"What's your name?" she asked through her sniffles.
The boy too an unconscious step back with slightly widen eyes.
"Sasuke…" he answered her.
He did not even know why he told her his name.
Pan gave him a small smith with tears still present in her eyes.
"My name is Pan," she spoke meekly.
Sasuke only stared at her with a raised eyebrow.
He was waiting for her to strike him like all the other kids did.
She looked so frail and weak to him. Looking at her gave him knots in his stomach. She reminded him of himself a bit.
He worked hard building his thick skin.
Just looking at her reminded him how weak he is. The thought of his lack of strength made him angry. She was reminding him how weak he still is. Sasuke wanted to escape those feelings.
He was about to turn around when he felt a tug on his hoodie.
He turned his head to look at her.
Sasuke was prepared for her to strike him.
He was shocked when he felt nothing.
She was staring at him with scared eyes.
He could see that that she did not want him to leave.
Tears were streaming down her cheeks. Sasuke could see the fear in her eyes.
His muscles relaxed a bit, but his guard was still strong.
Never once had anyone looked to him for comfort. All anyone had showed him was abuse.
He let out a sigh as he shook his head.
He pried her hand from his hoodie as he gave her a cold look.
He didn't trust her.
For all he knew, this was all a trick. The look that he gave her made her curl up in a ball.
Pan started to cry again.
"I'm all alone… I'm so scared!" she sobbed as she covered her face with her hands.
Sasuke rolled his eyes as he turned to a tree beside them.
He heard her sob more as he started to climb the tree.
He made it to a thick branch as he stood holding onto a branch above him.
"Are you coming or not?" he asked in a harsh tone as he stared down to her.
Her head popped up looking up at him.
She gave him a nod as she made her way to the tree. She started to climb up the tree. Sasuke watched her as she made her way up to him. Sasuke squinted his eyes at her. She was smiling at him. No one ever smiled at him. Besides Viktor and Lucas. The twin brothers who adopted him. It was odd to him. They treated him well. Even after calling them names, they still took care of him. As he stared at Pan, he saw something in her eyes that he was not accustomed to.
Pure kindness…
He never prepared himself for it.
Sasuke looked away from her as chewed on his inner cheek.
"Is that a tail?" Pan asked him noticing his black cat tail.
Sasuke's eyes shot wide open and before he could open his mouth, he felt sharp pain all over his body. She had pulled his tail.
He let out a hiss like a cat.
"Let go of my tail!" Sasuke hissed at her harshly.
This startled Pan, she let go his tail and lost her footing.
Pan gasped as she started to fall backwards.
Sasuke watched her in slow motion with wide eyes. Without realizing it he had grabbed her arm. She was now dangling in the air.
Pan looked up at Sasuke with wide eyes.
Sasuke did not say a word.
He was too stunned to say anything.
He was stunned for the fact he was scared for her safety.
Sasuke never felt concern for another before.
He pulled her up onto the branch.
Sasuke was expecting her to blame him and punish him.
"Thank you…" she whispered as she wrapped her arms around his torso.
He gasped at her sudden touch.
Sasuke kept his arms at his side.
He didn't know what to do.
A part of him wanted her to lash out.
He knew what to do if she attacked him or yelled at him.
But, a hug and 'thank you'…
No…
He did not have a clue.
Pan pulled back smiling at him.
He scrunched his eyebrows at her.
Still beyond confused. Then he heard her giggle.
"You don't talk a lot, do you?" she giggled at him with a smile on her face.
Sasuke blushed at her and quickly looked away from her.
"I talk when I feel like talking!" Sasuke retorted with his nose in the air.
Pan started laughing warmly at what he just said.
Sasuke glared at her.
"What's so funny?" he asked her harshly.
"You're silly!" she answered him while laughing.
"Pan! Where are you!?" called out a young boy below them.
Her laughing had stopped when she heard her name being called.
The boy who called out her name sounded worried. Sasuke and Pan looked down to see a boy with black hair.
He was wearing a light blue long sleeved t-shirt, a pair of grey jeans, and a pair of white sneakers.
Sasuke was stunned to see the boy had a black monkey tail that had black feathers blended with the fur. Sasuke glanced at Pan from the corner of his eye. She was smiling at the boy.
'She must know him…' he said to himself as he looked back at the boy.
Sasuke did not want the boy to see him.
He also saw that the boy was holding a yellow toy airplane.
He felt a tiny tug on the sleeve of his hoodie.
Sasuke looked to see it was Pan. She was smiling at him.
"That's my brother Goten!" she told him.
He did not say anything as he looked at her with a blank expression on his face.
Sasuke only nodded his head to her. She looked back at her brother.
"GOTEN!" she shouted out with glee waving her head in the air.
The boy stopped in his tracks at the sound of his sister's voice.
Goten let out a 'huh' and looked in every direction with wide eyes.
He was looking back, forward, right, left, and even down.
Pan groaned as she face palmed when she saw him looking down.
Her brother was not the smartest cookie in the cookie jar.
In addition, she would be the first one to say it. She sighed and looked over at Sasuke who was only confused. Sasuke saw that she had an annoyed look on her face.
"Come on… My brother isn't going to see us on his own," she grumbled as she rolled her onyx eyes.
Sasuke felt himself start to panic. Sasuke unconsciously back away from Pan.
He did not want to meet her brother.
He then saw Pan climbing down the tree.
She must have thought he was following her. Sasuke let out a sigh of relief.
He was going to take this opportunity to get the hell out of the dodge.
He then started to float in the air.
He looked over his shoulder back at Pan.
A part of him wanted to stay with the little girl.
He shook his head.
It was for the best and then took of flying higher to the sky.
The next day was the first day of school.
Pan was wearing her school uniform.
It was a baby pink sweater, a white button up shirt underneath, a red bow; a tan skirt that went passed her knees, white socks, and brown shoes. She was walking to her first class with her two friends Bra and Kenji. They were in Kindergarten and it was their first day.
Pan was nervous.
She has not seen Goten since Gohan had dropped the two sibling off.
Pan had told them about what happened yesterday.
She told the two about meeting Sasuke.
Bra just stared at Pan in 'awe'.
It sounded romantic to the blue haired Sayjinn. Bra was wearing the same uniform as Pan with her blue hair up in a high ponytail tied with a red bow. She was so enthralled by Pan's encounter with the mysterious boy.
"Was he cute!?" Bra chirped at her.
Pan looked at her friend.
"Yeah… I guess so…" she answered with the shrug of her shoulders.
"You said he just disappeared?" Kenji asked Pan ignoring Bra's question.
Pan looked at the boy.
He was a spitting image of Yamcha minus the scar on his cheek.
He had short black hair with baby blue eyes.
Kenji was also wearing a school uniform.
He wore a baby blue sweater, a white button up shirt underneath, a red tie, tan slakes, white socks, and brown shoes.
Pan nodded her head to him.
"It was so weird... One minute he was there and the next he was gone!" Pan explained to him.
She couldn't make any sense of it to herself. She thought he could have flown away, but that meant he would have to raise his Ki and Goten would have noticed it if he did.
"Dork alert…" Pan heard Bra grumble.
Pan saw whom she was referring to.
It was Bra's older brother Trunks. She also saw Goten and Piccolo's son Lute accompanying him. They were also wearing school uniforms as well. They were walking to them with smiles except for Lute.
Pan never seen Lute smile.
He always looked like someone pissed in his cereal (Fo: LOLZ! I giggled when I wrote that!).
He reminded Pan so much of his father Piccolo.
"Hey guys!" Goten was the first to speak.
He was clutching his blue backpack that was strapped to his shoulder.
Kenji waved to the three older boys. Bra was still glaring at her brother.
"Hi Goten… Hey Trunks… Hey Lute," Pan greeted them.
Trunks looked at Pan he had a playful smirk on his face.
"Nervous Shorty!?" Trunks teased as he ruffled Pan's hair.
Pan squeaked as she slapped Trunks' hand away.
She glared at him as she stuck out her tongue at him. This made him chuckle. Trunks loved to tease Pan.
"No I'm not nervous! And don't call me Shorty!" she snapped at him with a pouted lip on her face.
She did not quite care for Trunks' teasing. Then she heard Trunks sigh. She looked up at him.
He was much taller than she was.
Well…
Asides from being the youngest. She was the shortest.
"Aren't you guys supposed to go to class?" Bra hissed at Trunks.
Trunks looked at his little sister with a smirk. Bra suddenly felt nervous. She was not sure what her brother was up to.
"My sweet little sister what is the matter?" he smirked playfully at his sister.
Then Trunks saw a boy with black hair walking their way.
He was dressed in a school uniform.
His head was down and Trunks was string at the boy like he seen him somewhere.
He had forgotten his encounter with the strange woman in the hospital.
The boy walked around them not looking at them.
Pan's eyes widened when she saw a familiar cat tail.
"Sasuke!" she called out, the group looked at Pan and then at the boy.
The boy stopped in his tracks when he heard his name being called.
He turned his head towards them.
Then his onyx eyes caught Pan, she was smiling at him and waving her hand.
Pan looked at Goten with an 'I-told-you-so' look on her face.
"I told you that he was real!" she said to her brother as she ran to Sasuke.
Trunks glared at Sasuke he knew he wasn't human. Sasuke's tail gave it away. Goten and Lute stepped closer to Trunks.
Lute fidgeted with his blue crocheted beanie.
"I wonder who he is…" Lute whispered to Trunks.
Trunks kept his ice blue eyes on Pan and Sasuke. She was talking to him and he was listening to her. Sasuke looked uncomfortable with Pan. Trunks could see that Sasuke looked like he was guilty. Moreover, that spelled trouble in Trunks' mind. Didn't help that Trunks was overly protective of Pan. It always been like that for as long as he could remember.
He didn't know why.
He was more protective over Pan than he was to his own sister.
Trunks felt like it was his duty ever since the day she was born.
He couldn't explain it…
The need to keep Pan safe was just something he had to do.
"I don't know and I don't trust him," Trunks muttered as he glared daggers at Sasuke.
He did not trust that boy.
Trunks was going to have a few words with Pan to stay away from Sasuke.
First class of the day had begun. Bra, Kenji, Pan, and Sasuke were in the same class.
In Second Grade (Fo: I don't know if that's right… To late to change it now… Well... I could... But, I don't feel like it.) it was Trunks, Goten, and Lute were in the same class.
And lastly, in First Grade (Fo: Again, I'm not sure I'm right.) it was Zwei, Ein, Marron, and Tia were in the same class.
Pan was sharing a red circle shaped table with Kenji was seated next to Bra, Bra on her left and Sasuke on her right.
Their teacher was named Mrs. Honeyside (Fo: LOLZ! I named her after the house in Riften in the game 'Skyrim'! Good game by the way! You all should play it! No joke! It's an amazing game...).
She was sweet and nice. She had brown curly hair, brown eyes, and thick black glasses.
Pan took an instant liking to her.
She thought she was a ray of sunshine.
Her teacher reminded Pan of her Aunt Lunch.
The teacher had given them all yarn of many colors.
"We are going to make bracelets!" Mrs. Honeyside chirped.
Some of the students giggled in excitement.
Pan already knew what to do.
She knew how to crochet.
Her mother was teaching her.
She was confident she was going to make the best bracelet.
Pan looked over at Sasuke, he looked at the balls of yarn like it was speaking to him in a foreign language.
He looked so confused.
Pan smiled warmly and looked at the yarn.
She grabbed a dark blue and a light blue ball. She knew what she was going to do. She was going to make Sasuke a bracelet.
It was the beginning of recess and Pan had decided to give Sasuke the bracelet she had made.
Pan looked at the bracelet in her hand.
She smiled lovingly at it; she had finished it in lunch. It was blue her favorite color. She was looking around for Sasuke. She had spotted him sitting at a red picnic table by himself.
Pan found it strange that he was always alone.
Even at lunch, he ate alone.
Well…
That was going to change.
Pan was going to see to it.
Pan made her way to Sasuke with her hands behind her back.
"Hey Sasuke," Pan greeted him with a shy smile on her face.
Sasuke looked up at her. She hoped he would like her gift.
He saw that she was hiding something.
He raised an eyebrow at her.
Sasuke was curious. She was strange to him. She was always smiling at him. Back when he lived with his mother, only female contact was his mother.
His mother was an abusive creature.
Pan however, she was kind.
He did not know how he should feel about her.
"I made you this," Pan spoke as she handed him the bracelet.
He looked at the bracelet in her hand.
Sasuke recognized it…
Sasuke gasped, she had made that just for him. It was the bracelet she was making in class.
He looked up at her face.
She was smiling and he could see that she was blushing. No one had ever given him a gift before. Before he went to take the bracelet from Pan, he dug down into his pant pocket.
Pan watched him, he was digging something out.
She smiled when he pulled out a blue bracelet from his pocket. It was the same bracelet he had made in class.
He chose the same colors as her.
However, it was poorly made.
Sasuke held it out to her.
"Here," he said trying not to look at her.
Pan smiled real big as she took the bracelet from Sasuke's hand.
Sasuke then took the bracelet that she had made for him.
"Thank you!" she thanked him as she slipped the bracelet onto her wrist.
Sasuke nodded his head and followed suite.
"Thanks," he spoke quietly.
"Hey Pan," came the voice of Trunks.
Pan turned her head and smiled at Trunks.
He was standing behind her with his hands in his pockets.
"Hi Trunks," she greeted him with a smile on her face.
She saw that Trunks was staring down Sasuke.
Pan turned to Sasuke and he was staring down Trunks.
She knew Trunks' temper. In addition, she knew Trunks would destroy Sasuke with the flick of a wrist.
"Hey Sasuke…" she spoke getting Sasuke's attention.
She did not want to leave him.
However, with the stare that Trunks was giving Sasuke she knew it wouldn't end pretty.
Pan felt bad to leave Sasuke.
Nevertheless, it was for his own good.
"I'll see you in class," she said with a forced smile.
Sasuke nodded his head.
"Yep," was all that he said as he played with the bracelet Pan had given him.
Pan looked at Trunks with a smile.
"Come push me on the swings?" she asked him.
Trunks looked at her with a smile as he nodded his head. The two of them turned around and started walking to the swings leaving Sasuke behind.
Pan didn't even notice Trunks giving Sasuke a quick glare over his shoulders.
Trunks didn't like Sasuke. The moment he had laid eyes on Sasuke he didn't trust him.
That tail of his…
He knew Sasuke wasn't human.
Trunks didn't like that. The two of them were standing in front of the swings now.
Pan punched Trunks in the chest.
Trunks gasped as he rubbed where she had punched.
He saw Pan was scowling at him.
Trunks shook his head at her. Trunks gave her a stern look.
He didn't want Pan hanging around with Sasuke.
He didn't trust him.
"Pan, I don't want you to hang around with that kid," Trunks said to her.
It did not sound like a request. It sounded like an order.
Pan was taken back as she gasped.
Her shock quickly changed to angry.
"You don't even know Sasuke, Trunks!" she yelled at him.
The nerve of him Pan was thinking.
He didn't even know Sasuke.
Trunks wasn't the boss of her. Trunks grumbled he knew Pan wasn't going to listen to him. If she wasn't going to stay away from Sasuke.
Trunks was going to keep Sasuke away from her.
End of Chapter
