For weeks they all practiced hard. Exhaustion was beginning to set in the village, and the usually happy mood had taken a darker turn. Hiccup was having Gobber, their master blacksmith, make armor for dragon and rider. This meant they had to learn to ride and fly with more weight. Fishlegs had developed a new diet for the dragon's, allowing their fire to be hotter.
Caleri had grown stronger, and Sila's muscles became more toned. Dusk had set and Caleri leaned against her dragon, panting and wiping sweat from her brow. Sila panted, the weight of her armor and the exhaustion making her crumple.
"Sila, are you okay?" Caleri asked. Sila didn't answer, just panted harder. Caleri began to take off the Night Fury's armor and Sila sighed in relief. Caleri then unbuckled her chest plate and let it fall to the floor.
"Caleri, I don't know if I can take much more," Sila whispered hoarsley. They limped their way to the beach and flopped in the sand. The cool ocean water lapped at their blistered feet and they both sighed. Carlei sat up and wrapped her arms around her legs.
"Sila, when was the last time we flew. And I mean flew for pleasure, not for war?" Sila looked thoughtfully at her friend and shrugged.
"Weeks, maybe longer," the dragon replied. She stood and stretched her muscles. "Come on, let's go." Caleri smiled broadly and climbed onto her dragon's back. They flew high into the clouds, enjoying the feel of the cool salty breeze on their faces. Soaring, they saw islands in the distance, some with specks of light form neighboring tribes, others dark and uninhabited. The moon lit the way as they flew, and bliss was on both their faces.
As they flew over one island, the dim roar of dragon's filled their ears. Sila slowly decended, careful not to be spotted. They landed on a ledge overlooking a cove similar to the one on Berk. But this cove was worlds different. The ground was scortched by dragon's fire, and no vegitation grew. Hundreds of thousands of dragons clung the the sides and were spread around the ground. On a large rock in the center stood a black dragon, whose eyes sparkled like wild embers. He roared for silence and all grew quiet.
"Brothers, sisters! We gather this night for celebration! For within a forenight, the human scum will begin to disappear from our world. They have plagued dragon kind for centuries, killing us, and now keeping us as house pets! We are DRAGONS! The humans will only destroy what we have built here, and I will not stand for this! Will you?" The dragons roared in unison, making Caleri and Sila's ears ring. "Then we will start the cleansing on Berk! Prepare yoursleves, for this is our time. The time of the dragons has come at last!" Sila didn't need to hear more. Quietly, they left the island, dread in their hearts.
Sila told Caleri what she had heard, and the girl's face looked girm.
"We have to warn the village, we have to be ready for the worst," the Viking whispered. Sila flew faster, arriving on Berk in record time. They to Hiccup's home, and he groggily opened the door. Fast as she could, Caleri told him of the impending battle. His face hardened and he nodded before slowly closing his door. They went to their home, knowing the end was coming.
