I'm back! And guess what? ITS HOLIDAY BREAK! I CAN ACTUALLY WRITE THIS STORY! I'm so physicked to be able to keep writing this story. And just a weird update thingy... I'M ON HONOR ROLL! AND I WROTE A SONG FOR CHORUS! Ok I know that you guys want to get to the story so I want to say thank you for putting up with that long break from the story. I really needed it to get some stuff straight. You have no idea how much I missed writing this story- or writing in general. Ok thanks. I LOVE YOU GUYS! HAPPY READING!
MAX POV
When we got home I could not stop thinking of what happened at the store. So... when I touch one of the shadows I see something. Maybe the future, maybe wishful thinking- I don't know but I know it is something. I shook my head and thought of Fang. I can't like Fang. I hardly know te guy for Christ's sake! But something that I feel when I'm around him... I feel like I can fly- like I'm walking on a cloud. The only thing is that I know that if I let myself trust him, I'll fall through. I cant trust anyone. I groaned and threw myself on my bed. I tossed and turned as i tried to figure things out. I was on my side, Fang's image appeared and mirrored my pose. I openly embraced it- curious as to what it would bring me to now. I saw him talking to Iggy. I leaned against the door frame, invisible to them.
"I don't know, man. She's absolutely amazing and know it, but I don't know her." Fang said, running his hands through his hair. Iggy simply shook his head and softly chuckled.
"It's simple. Ask her on a date."
"You think it's that easy?" he shot back. "When I look at her, I feel like I'm on a roller coaster. I feel like I can do anything, yet I can hardly say a word to her. How can I ask her out if I can't even say hi?" I let out a slight cry as I realized that I might not be the one he was talking about. Why? I don't even know if I like him. I groaned then quickly stifled it when I saw Fang's head jerk towards me.
FANG POV
I heard a slight cry, but decided to ignore it but when I heard the groan, I had to investigate it. I slowly walked toward the noise.
"Hey, Fang?" Iggy asked as I walked closer. I looked back. "What exactly are you doing?"
"I think I heard something." I said as I neared the door frame. I heard a gasp and saw Max standing there. She heard everything that I said about her. Then a question dawned on me. When and how did she get here? "Hey Maxie." I whispered. Her eyes widened then she was gone. She just disappeared. I stared at the empty space puzzled until I felt Iggy clap his hand on my shoulder.
"Uh," I started. "I'll be back in like an hour. Bye." I quickly dashed out of the house, grabbed my bike, and made my way to Max's house. As I was riding, I noticed that shadows were lurking behind trees. I ignored it as long as I could until one appeared right in front of me. I gripped my breaks and almost fell off my bike. Startled, I made my way across the road and into the outskirts of the forest. The shadow glided across to meet me there. I quickly realized that its body resembled Max's frame. She put her hand on my chest and I closed my eyes. I opened them to find myself in a crying Max's room. I wanted so badly to wrap my arms around her but I stood, glued to my spot.
"Why am I crying? I hardly know the guy." She kept telling herself. Then I heard her faintly whisper, "Why would he like me? I'm just a screw-up." My heart broke when she said this. How could someone so perfect, think so little of herself? She got up and paced around the room.
"My fault. It was my fault! Why and I so stupid? I should have never been born. Why would someone even want me? I'm just a stupid idiot who looks like a kicked puppy." Tears rolled down my face as something forced me out of her room. I called everyone and told them to meet me at my house- my mission to go to Max's house was abandoned for the moment. I walked through the door to find Iggy and Nudge in a full out fight on my couch. I pulled Iggy back as Angel pulled Nudge away.
"Why are you guys fighting?" I yelled at them. Iggy pointed to Nudge.
"She stole the remote!"
"I did not! It was my turn!" She shot back. I put my head in my hands.
"I'm surrounded by idiots." I muttered. Angle giggled. I clapped my hands. "How about we have a sleep over?" I asked.
"Whose house?" Iggy asked. I grinned.
"Max's." After a chorus of excited agreements, we made our way towards her house.
"Hi Mrs. Michelle!" Nudge said. "Do you mind if we sleep over tonight? We really want to hang out with Max." Michelle nodded her head.
"Of course! It's fine with me. Max is in her room. Come on in." She said, moving away from the door. We climbed the stairs and slowly opened the door. She was staring out of her window, tears streaming down her face. Angel and Nudge immediately ran and engulfed her in a hug.
"What's wrong, sweetie?" Angel asked. Max looked at me, wiped her eyes then shrugged.
"Hey, Maxie?" I asked. She looked away from the girls. "Can I talk to you?" she nodded and followed me out to the backyard.
MAX POV
My heart was pounding in my chest. No, I thought. I don't like him. I can't trust him. I can't trust anyone. We stood in the backyard and I looked into his eyes. They were lighted with excitement, yet he never smiled. Not even a smirk.
"Why don't you smile?" I asked. The question took him aback.
"Excuse me?"
"You never smile around me. Why? Do you just never smile? Is it just around me? I don't understand." I said. After a moment of deliberation he shrugged.
"I don't know. I never really thought of it. But," he stepped closer to me, "I have a question of my own." He looked down at me through his eye lashes. "I saw you in my room this morning. Then, when I was riding to your house, I saw these shadows. When I touched one," he paused, "It took me to you. I'm not sure what's going on, but maybe you do." My eyes widened when he told me this for two reasons. One, that was the most I've ever heard him say, and because he may understand.
"You see them too?" I looked up at him. "They've been driving me crazy since the incident." I said. To relieved to think twice about what I said.
"The incident?" He asked. I inwardly cringed and looked at my shoes. He gently put a finger under my chin and forced me to look at him. "You can trust me." My eyes filled with tears but I wouldn't let them fall. I never cry in front of someone. Never. But I looked into his eyes and saw something in them. He was different.
"We were going on a family trip." I started. I told him about everything. About the crash, the evil nurse who so bluntly told me about my parents' death, and even about the Petersons and the Wilsons. What I didn't tell him was the growing feeling of dread I had. It was my fault I was mixed in this. My fault that I am an orphan. It's my fault because I'm a screw-up.
"Max, I'm so sorry. I didn't know." He said giving me a hug.
"How could you? It's not like I go around wearing a 'My parents are dead' shirt." Fang did something I least expected, he smiled.
"You can tell me anything you know." He said leaning towards me. Oh my gosh, he's going to kiss me. This is going to be my first kiss. How do you kiss? I thought. I'm panicking by the time his lips pressed to mine. It was soft, sweet, and gone way to fast. When I opened my eyes and saw him walking inside. "Oh and Max," he said turning towards me, a smile playing around the edge of his amazing lips. "You should smile more." Then he turned and walked into the house.
Well here it is. This is my longest chapter ever and you guys deserve it. I also threw in a lot of FAX in this one because I'm just that nice. :) Ok I love you guys! I'm so glad that you like this and I promise I will write as much as I can these two weeks. Even if they're short chapters, they will be up :) Once again, I LOVE YOU! Ok Bye!
