Unexpected Meeting
MAX POV
I watched the doors swing shut as Jeb left the room. No, I thought. This can't be happening. Jeb is dead. He's dead, gone, and never coming back. That is how death works... right? I pushed myself into the back of the crate, wrapping my arms around my legs. My mind whirled with questions. Was my mom alive? How did Jeb escape? Why was I here? I looked over at Fang to see him staring at me. I could see the question in his gaze. The tension between these two crates was almost unbearable but we stayed in this staring match until one of us cracked. He sighed and lowered his head.
"Who is he?" He asked simply.
"The man that just left? Oh he's just mu dead father." I said bitterly. His eyes widened.
"But..." He started, trailing off. "How? How is it possible? I mean dead is dead. You don't come back." He shook his head at the ground. I snorted.
"Uh-huh. Tell him that when you get the chance." My mind was swimming. Only one question stuck out though.
"Wait. If he was alive why didn't he find you until now?" His words echoed my thoughts.
"That's what I want to find out. But first..." I trailed off and gave the door a good kick- hoping it would give way. No such luck. Then an idea hit me. "What if I try to pull it in?" I mumbled to myself. I pressed my face against the crate's opening and wrapped my fingers around the bars. I placed my feet on either side of the door and pulled as hard as I could, throwing my weight back. I heard the hinges squeal under the force. I was so close to breaking this door when someone came into the room.
"Hey! What are you doing?" The man roared running up to my crate. I fell and scooted to the back of my confinement. The man kicked the crate with all his might, sending me flying until I crashed into the wall.
"Leave her the hell alone." Fang growled. The man chuckled.
"And what are you gonna do about me, huh?" The man leaned down to get in Fang's face. He only shrugged.
"Kill you, of course." He said nonchalantly. The man glared at Fang.
"As if you could kill me." The man said. He tensed his body, putting a lot of effort into something. By the looks of it he was trying to take a huge crap. Then I realized that he was growing. The man normally stood at about five foot four. Now he stood at about six foot eleven. His nails blackened and lengthened, sharpening at the tips. His face grew into a long muzzle- morphing his face in a disturbing way. He growled and panted at Fang. During this whole show I realized that I could be working at opening this stupid crate. My crate was leaning against the wall with the door on the floor. I placed my feet on the door and my hands on the wall adjacent to the door and stood up. The door finally gave way sending bolts clattering across the floor. There was eerie silence as we all comprehended what I had done. I was the first to snap out of it and threw off the crate. I spun and glared at the seething animal. I sprinted at him and kicked him where it counts. Animal or not, men always have the same weak spot. He groaned but otherwise was unharmed. A scream ripped through me as I attacked him with everything I had. I was a flurry of punches and kicks until he fell to his knees. I climbed on to his shoulders. Let me tell you- there is nothing more deadly then a pissed off Max. I wrapped my legs around his head and fell off the side of his body- hearing the deafening crack of his neck. His body fell limply to the floor with a soft thud. I wiped my bleeding mouth with the back of my hand.
"Did you just-" Fang started as I unlocked his crate.
"Shut up. Don't talk about it." I said as I started shaking as realization hit me. I killed him. He was a bastard yeah but he died at my hand when he shoulder have. I backed away from Fang's crate as a tear rolled down my cheek.
"Hey, it's going to be okay." He said with a smile. He lightly kissed my nose then pulled me into an embrace. I sighed then pushed him away.
"Okay. How the heck to we get out of here?" I asked right as Jeb walked in.
"That's easy to answer, Maximum." He said with a smirk. "You don't." He noticed the body at my feet and made a tsk tsk noise. "Such a shame. I liked that one." My blood was at it's boiling point.
"Where the hell were you?" I growled, my hair covered my face as I glared at the ground.
"Here of course!" He said gesturing around the lab. "I've gotten so much work done while I was away. You wouldn't believe the findings I have! He said whirling around tables and looking into clear jars that contained chemicals and what looked like organs.
"What about mom? Is she alive too?" I asked.
"Yes. She is. Look at what we've done to her!" As he waved dramatically towards the door, a machine walked through. She had the same frame as my mother but I refused to believe it was true. She stuttered to a stop and bent at the hip. "We're thinking of recalling her model and making something better. Behind me I heard Fang mutter something about M-Geeks. I inwardly face palmed.
"Why do you want me now of all times?" I asked deadly calm.
"Oh you'll soon see. The fun has only begun." He said with a sick smirk. I couldn't even look at him. This was just to much. He approached me and grabbed my jaw- inspecting me. "Yes. You are going to be quite valuable." I spit in his face and used my go to move. I kicked him where it counts. I spun on my heel and grabbed Fang's hand.
"Come on!" I pulled him through the double swinging doors that Jeb had emerged from. I heard Jeb in the room behind us screaming for them to catch us. I picked up the pace only to be cut off by about ten of those dog boys. We fought as hard as we could taking out about three each, but we were both eventually strapped on to a gurney.
"This may be end sweetie." He sighed. "I'm sorry you reunion had to be on such bat terms." He said as he silently motioned for the two pups to take Fang out of the room. I screamed for him and I could hear his screams long after he was gone. I watched as Jeb put on a face mask. He slipped a mask over my nose. I refused to breathe. He simply waited until I did the inevitable. I said sorry to everyone. To my new family. To my friends. And to Fang especially. It was my fault he was in this. It was my complete fault. I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'mm sorry. I thought- my head shaking from side to side as I took a breath. Everything went fuzzy around the edges then I was gone. Floating in the blackness of unconsciousness. So this is what it felt like to be totally helpless.
