Sam was walking for a bit when he finally spotted Dean. He started to walk towards Dean when the flashes of Dean dying streaked across his vision. He stopped in his tracks holding his head, as if he was holding it together with his hands. He then opened his eyes and shook it off before he continued towards Dean.
As he approached Dean he could hear him talking to another hunter about a herd heading towards the town.
"Dean, could I talk to you for a minute". Sam asked as he approached the table with what looked like a map of the area and pieces scattered everywhere. Looked like a game of Risk.
"Sam not right now. We have a pack of creatures heading this way. We need to prepare the town." Dean said shrugging Sam off. Sam looked shocked that Dean just cast him aside, after all they had been through.
"I.. I can help, if you want" Sam said, sounding so small and crushed.
"Fine. Can you..um.. go round up the other troops and tell them to meet me here." Dean said as he turned to talk the other guy standing beside Dean. Sam walked away without a word said, feeling completely alone and cast aside. He went around town asking and gathering up all the other hunters. The last person he talked to was Collin. He entered the shop where Collin helped out. Collin looked up at him.
"Can I help you?"
"Hi, I'm looking for any troops to help with the incoming herd." Sam said, not really sure what else to say.
"That's would be me. Wait, I know you. You're Samantha's uncle. I'm Collin, her boyfriend."
"Hi, it's nice to meet you." Sam said as he shook Collins hand from across the counter. Collin then pulled his hand across the counter and turned it over, pulling down Sam's jacket sleeve. He placed his fingers on Sam's forearm. He started reading Sam when he tried to pull back.
"What are you doing to me?"
"I see. You used to have powers as well, but they are dormant right now. That's a shame. You could have been useful." Collin said as he let Sam's wrist go and opened his eyes. Sam looked to see his left eye was yellow and his right was blue. As Collin visibly relaxed his eyes returned to their blue color.
"Don't worry; I'm not the yellow eyed demon. It's just a genetic side effect of my powers. I'm also pyrokenetic, if that doesn't creep you out as much, I can show you." Sam thought for a second.
"No, it's okay. Besides, we're needed downtown. We should probably head back" Sam said as he tried to leave the store as quickly as possible without making it seem that way. He could shake the creepiness of the kid's eyes.
Sam and the rest of the hunters were meeting with Dean. Dean called Sam over.
"Hey, do you think you can handle one of these now?" He asked as he visibly evaluated Sam.
"Yeah, I'm fine." He said as he took the sawed off from Dean.
The rest of the evening was spent with hunters getting into positions to protect the town. Sam was partnered with Samantha. He was glad that Dean trusted him that much, plus he already felt like he knew her really well.
"Met your boyfriend earlier. Not exactly subtle, is he?"
"I can't really blame him, a demon killed his parents in front of him when he was a kid and kept telling him it was his fault that they were there. That he was cursed. I think he just likes to discover others to tell himself that he isn't the only cursed one, that he isn't alone." She said looking down in sadness.
"Hey, are you alright?"
"I just wish that we weren't treated like freaks. I know my dad says that he understands, but he it far from understanding what it's like. He doesn't even treat me as well as he should."
"I know. That's just the way Dean is. He never truly understood me either." At that moment they heard someone yell on the other side of the building. They both looked at each other and started running towards where the sound came from.
When they rounded the corner they saw a couple of werewolves and three ghouls. The werewolves where on top of a guy and Dean was cornered by the ghouls.
"DEAN!" Sam and Samantha quickly ran over trying to help the guy that was attacked. They shot the werewolves; one in the shoulder and the other in the heart; killing one. The other stood up on two feet and started charging Samantha. Sam pushed the werewolf into the wall while Samantha put the gun to its head and pulled the trigger. Sam looked over to see Dean finish off the last ghoul with a head shot.
"You okay?" Sam asked as Dean made his way over. Samantha ran over and embraced him.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Can't say the same for him though. They all looked down at the man who was attacked by the werewolves. Dean raised his gun to put a bullet into his head; but at that moment he jumped up onto Dean. It snapped its teeth at Dean almost biting him a few times. Sam quickly tackled the guy to the ground, sending Dean onto his butt. He held it as it tried to bite Samantha. It then turned around and took a bite out of Sam as he let out a yelp of pain. Dean looked over to see the red start to cover the ground as he grabbed the werewolf and put it into a choke hold with one arm. He raised his other with a gun and shot it in the head a few times before letting go. Dean then scrambled his way over to Sam who was one his back gripping his red soaked arm, trying not to let the whimpers escape his lips. He just crouched beside him with a shell shocked look on his face.
"You… you saved me. And my daughter."
"Do you…forgive me?" Sam asked grinding his teeth trying to keep the pain down.
"Forgive you? I was never angry at you." Dean said with a look of confusion and sadness.
"But, that's why I made that wish. So you wouldn't be mad at me."
"I forgot about all of that when I lost you. You mean more to me then you know." Dean said with a tear rolling down his face. As Sam watched the tear roll down Dean's face time suddenly froze. Sam looked puzzled until he turned and his eyes landed on Mereo. She sauntered towards Sam laughing with purpose.
"What's so.. funny?" Sam said gripping his arm as he tried to prop himself up.
"It took you all this to finally understand. Dean will always forgive you, because you're his brother. The purpose of this, was to show you how ridiculous things have to get before you two will even start to talk to each other about your feelings." She said as she got closer, and closer to Sam.
"I'm going to stop you from changing, but I will leave the wound. This will give you that foot in the door you need with Dean." She touched his forehead and the burn that was travelling through his body cooled, but the bite still stung.
"Don't say I never did anything for you." At that moment she got out and flipped the bloody coin. Sam watched it flip through the air as he black out.
