"Am I not what you told me to be?" she asked bitterly, her fire once rekindled burned all she touched.

"Are you not what you want to be?" his voice replied, skin concealing his own fire, eyes like portals looking into the furnace of hell.

"No." she replied, relieved in the sanctity of fire, safe in the knowledge that fire cannot burn fire, only enlarge the flame; her red dress shifting against her skin like lava, rippling and curling around a flame too hot for it to bear.

"Then daughter, what are we to do?" he asked, the answer something not even fire can make pure, too polluted by the marks of sin. She stared into the twin portals, not blinded by the light but letting it clash with her own brightness.

"Who I am lies, as it always has, with him." She said, giving the echoes of thoughts entrapping her form, freeing herself from the burden of secrecy.

"That is unfortunate."
