Title: Much Better

Rating: K

Summary: A short drabble based off of Chapter 674. Spoiler Warning (I personally don't predict it being his eventual fate however).

"You were better off without it anyway," she huffed, carefully wrapping a fresh bandage around his head. Kakashi observed with his uncovered eye—or rather, his only eye, the way her eyebrows furrowed together in deep concentration. There was nothing else to look at after all, being a few inches away from her examining stare. The worried look on her face however, made his insides bulk. Pity was the last thing he needed at the moment, and it made him wonder if her vocal optimism was more for her own assurance than his. A shame really, for he genuinely agreed with it.

Kakashi's sharingan was simply an insalvagable loss, as vast as her new regenerating power was. But it wasn't as huge of a loss in the grand canvas of his tragic life. Of course, a part of him had hoped on recovering his left eye intact; a blind eye was a much easier thing to sport than the grotesque sight of an empty socket—the same one she was now so dutifully covering up.

"There," she gently reinstated his worn hitai-ate on top of the bandage. "You're back to looking just as stupid as you used to."

She quirked her mouth a little, teasingly that Kakashi couldn't help but smile back.

"Thank you, Sakura," he said. His words came out more serious than he intended, judging from the slight color on her cheeks.

"I wish I could have done more," she finally confessed as she took a seat next to him on the medic bench.

"You did your best."

They were silent for a moment before she lightly nudged him with her elbow.

"Well—at least I know you won't be dying on me from chakra exhaustion anytime soon."

"Don't worry, I'll find a new excuse to park my ass in the hospital bed for you," he countered.

Sakura snorted in reply. "Sounds pretty inevitable for a one-eyed-nin."

"Touché."
