Two exams later and here ya go!
I don't know how to explain the pain, it was agony. A burning agony, my blood seemed to boil, lungs were filled with acid, and my heart beat a slow rhythm. THUMP…THUMP…THUMP…. Then there was something under me, moving, it was all around me. Eyes popped open, only to see that I was under water, I was in a river. I floundered, my hands smashing against rocks, legs pumping. I didn't know where the air was, I didn't, I couldn't find…please, not again….please….
Something pulled me from the current, strong arms encircled me, putting me flush against a hard chest. But by that time I couldn't do anything, I was dying. There was too much water, my chest felt heavy, there wasn't a fight left in me. Lazily, my eyes surveyed my savior, damn. It was the pack, but instead of seeming smug, they actually seemed concerned. Maybe they didn't know that I would come back to life…there are small mercies. My wandering thoughts were brought back to a callous rough hand taking hold of my chin in a rather surprising manner. Slowly, oh so slowly my eyes followed. It was the leader, he was speaking, but I didn't have the strength to figure out what he was trying to say. The burning of my lungs, black spots, I went completely limp.
Someone was pounding on my chest, holding my nose closed. Warm lips pressed against mine, I vaguely realized that they took my first kiss. I felt a crack of one of my ribs, a new flare of agony, to add to the growing bundle. Water forced its way up, I think I gurgled a warning, it burned, I couldn't get a breath as water left me, it seemed endless.
I must have passed out again, for when I woke, I was only able to do so in lethargic increments. Someone was carrying me, their chest was warm, solid, and it smelled faintly of wood smoke and thyme. I couldn't resist, I forced my head under their chin to soak up any and all affection and heat, they stilled for a moment, their chest rumbled with a question but I didn't have the energy to show them that I couldn't hear. So I just let the lingering wave of darkness take me, might as well enjoy it while I could.
Waking up, feeling tired, being carried by an unknown wolf – it got old fast, if you've never been in a similar situation then you are not only lucky, count your blessings, it's no fun. This time the guy, I assume it's a guy, or a rather flat chested girl, smelled of thyme and mint, the smell was oddly comforting. The human wolf, more than likely knew I was waking up, but he didn't respond. And I was thankful for that, to be able to get my thoughts in order and to attempt to stop the 'oh shit' ones from clouding my thoughts, if only just barely. A warm, large hand was placed on my forehead, feeling for a fever.
"He seems to be fairing slightly better, the water sapped his strength, and his core seems weak but stable."
"He floats between sleep and awake, his smell has freshened slightly, but he still is soured by sickness."
Holy crap, they sounded identical, were there twins in the Alpha pack? Oh please let them be awesomely creepy, like the twins in movies, when they would answer for one another and have a vacant but scary look in their eye, don't judge. I want to know if the old horror movies on twins have any merit.
Before I brought up the courage to look at him, them, a very powerful presence came toward me, this was the alpha of the Alpha Pack. A conundrum, a very scary dude. He inhaled deeply, seeming to try to suck my magic out with his nostrils.
"Boy, open your eyes." The Alpha commanded, his voice soft but it had a steel edge.
I resisted, my magic coiled around inside me, I prayed that my heart, smell, whatever, would give off my initial…..wait…I heard him….like I heard the twins…I HEARD THEM! My eyes popped open and I was immediately staring into red eyes tinged with black, the unseeing eyes of the leader.
"So you can hear me, and here we thought you were either too wild to understand commands or too stupid." His voice had a gravely undertone, but overall it was soothing, but I made no mistake, he was the Alpha for a reason, no matter how nice his voice sounded. "Let him go" he commanded.
I swiveled my eyes to my not-so-much-human taxi and shew, he was hot! And I'm not even gay…at least I don't think I am, does liking a male who is half wolf even count as being gay? I mean, he wasn't completely human. My rambling thoughts were interrupted by a second pair of arms wrapping around me.
Eyes wide I craned my neck back to see what, or rather who it was, and it was twin two! Oh wow, hormones, maybe they are amped up by magic, or something, but WHEW these twins were yummy. My legs were dropped but the twins steadied me. Once they were certain I was able to stand on my own, they put their hands to their sides and took a step back. Right when they stopped touching me, it felt as if a wall slammed into my ears, leaving a deafening ring, then nothing. My world tipped for a moment, then I was able to stand tall. The Alpha was talking, but I had no idea what he was saying, I couldn't hear….again. It was giving me whiplash.
I looked at the twins and then back to the Alpha, and decided to let a little bit of the old Stiles out and I reached behind me, and poked a twin. Sounds rushed back in a nauseating fashion, I wasn't sure what to think of it. But I was certainly getting weird looks from the three wolves present.
"You aren't paying me any attention, are you?" The Alpha asked, as I surveyed the twins and alternated poking them.
I turned to look at him and I couldn't help but have a sheepish smile, then I decided to answer in the fashion I was used to.
'I am deaf.' I signed, motioning towards to the twins, hoping that someone would be able to translate for me,
The twins' eyes bulged out, and they looked at one another with look of 'oh crap' clear on their face. I kept a finger on one twin, they seemed to think it was just a thing I did, for they no longer paid attention and they decided to talk to their Alpha.
"Alpha, he just signed"
"Signed?"
"Sign language, I think the elemental is deaf"
There was an awkward pause, at least for those who are used to hearing; I enjoyed listening to the sounds around me. Granted it seemed as if even the smallest bug was scared of the alpha pack and decided to make themselves scarce.
The Alpha leader grabbed my chin and forced my head to the side, he took a deep sniff. Ew. "You would think the Magic would manifest and protect him, or at the very least give his ability to hear, back." He muttered to himself.
"What shall we do?" One twin asked
"We shall keep him, an Elemental will strengthen the pack and allow us to expand our territory, those with some common sense will be able to sense our power and submit." There was a pause, and he seemed to be contemplating something. "We need to train him, so he won't run."
My eyes grew wide, I turned to look at the other wolves, and then back to the alpha, I didn't want to be trained. I wasn't a dog, a pet, or anything trainable. I mean, until I broke, I didn't even know how to be quiet!
"What do we need to do?"
"Show him that he is better off with us than without."
I tensed my muscles and tried to be as heavy as possible, I was not going to be moved from this spot, no way no how. It must have worked, because I felt two pairs of hands on me, and then I heard their surprised grunts.
"Alpha," One twin said, uncertainty coloring his voice.
"He dug into the ground didn't he?"
"Yea.."
I peeked through my lashes, I didn't realize I had closed my eyes, and I looked down, holy…I literally dug in.
