This is the end, and they wish it didn't have to be.
"I'm not sorry," the other says, detached voice rough, jaw wobbling weirdly.
He smiles, and his face, half torn off, starts bleeding again. "I know. I'd be worried if you were."
He's memorizing this moment, engraving it into his pores, however long they get to stay in this moment, dominant over the demons fighting to be the ones at the fore.
They never will.
This is no longer about the monsters sealed in them, or the loved ones they've lost and left behind.
It's about them.
"Can you do it?" he asks pointlessly, watching the angry red eyes slow and gaze at him from black pits. He's exhausted his mind and spirit seeking revenge.
"It's not me in question, dobe," the other retorts with an echo of his old façade. His breath catches in nostalgia, the red of his eyes bleeding into blue as the blood from his side blackens the orange in his jacket.
They are closer than ever, the other holding his beaten body up by the shoulder almost sliced through; he hardly feels the pain anymore.
"Ready?" He says it even though he needn't.
The other nods and withdraws his hand. The tainted chakra burns as the whirlwind gathers in his palm but he doesn't care.
"Rasengan!"
"Chidori!"
The last thing he hears is the voice of his inspiration, his brother.
