A week has passed since the initial first day at the hospital. I've gone to Sollux's house a few times, with his dad to grab Sollux his laptop and eat some not-shitty food. But otherwise, I've been staying at the hospital. The school sends us homework, Thelm and my mom has explained the situation or some shit, I don't care about details, all I know is that I'm getting out of school for around a month.

I'm sitting on the end of the hospital bed with Sollux, the both of us attempting to work through the equations Rose assigned us, when Layla walks in.

"Karkat, I need to talk to you for a moment." I glance up from the paper, giving her a confused look before shrugging.

"Have fun with that problem Sollux," I say with a smirk, hearing him groan in frustration as I follow my mom. I wonder where we're going as she leads me into a relatively empty hallway. She sits down on one of the many benches scattered throughout the building and gives me a serious look.

"They've told me the court date for Silas, it's going to be a few months from now, the beginning of January," She pauses for a second, seemingly choosing her words, "Do you want to testify against him, according to the lawyer, there's enough evidence that you wouldn't have to in order to get him jail time." She bites her lip, staring at me as I sit there in a sort of shock.

"Wait, so, he can be put away? seriously?" I can't believe it, I won't have to deal with Silas anymore.

"Yes," Layla seems relieved, "There's enough evidence that he can be put away, possibly for life," she hesitates before continuing, "Also, his job, isn't exactly legal...that in on itself gives him over twenty years."

"Oh my God...that's..." I sit there before hugging her tightly. "Thank God," I say, grinning. She laughs as she hugs me back.

"Yes, that's sort of agreeable," She says, pulling away. "And Karkat?"

"Yeah?"

"I signed divorce papers this morning, I'm leaving him no matter what." She smiles, nodding firmly.

I don't have to deal with Silas anymore, oh my God, I can almost feel tears welling up but I force them back down as I smile back at her.

"I'm going to tell Sollux, ok?" I ask, standing and looking at her. She nods, a small smile still gracing her face.

"Of course."

I waste no time getting back to the room, almost jumping onto the bed (although I'm careful not to jostle Sollux too much) and hug him.

"Silas's court date is in January, he's going to be put away, possibly for good, either way my mom divorced him so he's not coming back," I exclaim happily. Sollux makes a surprised noise and pulls away.

"Th'eriou'thly? Dude that'th awethome!" He yells, sitting back with a grin. I scoot back to return to sitting on the end of the bed. Sollux looks down at the papers I scattered while hugging him and sighs sarcastically.

"Well I can't po'thibly work on thethe while they're all thcattered," His sentence is split with a yawn and I chuckle as I gather up my set of homework.

"It's only seven pm and you're already tired," I tease, setting my papers aside to grab his. He sticks his tongue out at me and moves to lie on his side.

"Well, homework i'th tiring," he mumbles into his pillow, hiding his face. I smile and move to sit in the chair beside the bed, a regular spot for me in the evenings before I move to the pullout bed/couch. I brush my fingers through his hair, seeing him grinning just slightly. He puts his hand at the edge of the bed (we've lowered the bed-rails because they got annoying) and reaches out blindly.

"Goodnight then," I murmur, lacing my fingers with his. He mumbles something along the lines of a response, hiding his face in the pillow once more. It doesn't take long before I can tell he's asleep. After a bit longer I remove my hand from his and grab the homework, I might as well do something somewhat useful. Sollux can copy the answers when he wakes up.

I almost forget that he nearly died even though it's only been a week. He does sleep alot more, but besides the first few days he was fully conscious, he never shows much signs of pain. He hasn't even gotten any headaches in the time we've been here.

I look up as the door opens quietly, smiling when Gamzee walks in. He's only communicated by text since the time he sat in the waiting room with me.

"Hey Karbro, sorry I haven't all up and visited you an' Solbro," he says quietly, but grinning wildly at me. I snort and stand, giving his shoulder a small shove. I debate whether or not I should talk to him in the hall so as not to wake Sollux, but I decide against it.

"It's fine Gamzee, so what's been going on at school? I hate to be missing all the drama," I say as I roll my eyes. Gamzee laughs at my sarcastic dramatics and shrugs.

"Bunch of people have been buggin' me an' Tav about you and Solbro, but we just ignore them most of the time, the teachers usually just smirk and shrug when they're asked."

"Nice to see we're so popular," I sigh in exasperation. "anything else?"

Gamzee rubs the back of his neck, looking embarrassed, "Me and Tav are sorta kinda dating now." I stare at him for a few seconds before grinning.

"Holy shit Gamz that's awesome!" I exclaim, giving him a quick hug.

"Thanks Karbro, so," he waggles his eyebrows at me, "What about you and Sollux?" I feel myself blushing before I can stop myself and Gamzee smiles knowingly. "You don't have to say anythin' bro," He gives me a small shoulder hug. "I hate to just leave but Tavros is waiting for me, I'll see you again soon Karkat," He says, leaving as quietly as he had arrived. I look and see that Sollux is still completely asleep, I'm sure me and Gamzee were a bit too loud but oh well.

As it gets later I continue to work on the homework, finishing it rather quickly. I set it aside and lean back in the chair, hearing the activity and noise get quieter and quieter as the night wears on.

I take Sollux's laptop from the side table and begin watching some movies after I set up the bed, falling asleep almost as fast as Sollux did after I turn off the lights.

I wake up suddenly, jerking myself awake and quickly regretting it as I fall off the bed, somehow not landing on the laptop I set on the ground before I fell asleep. I groan, laying there for a few seconds before heaving myself off the ground. I managed to disperse the damage to my right arm and leg so I'm not terribly hurt.

It takes me a few seconds before I remember why I've woken up, then I sigh shudderingly and rub my hand over my face. I check the time, three am, I've only slept for five hours. Not the best, but not the worst.

I don't know why I only just now had a nightmare, I haven't had one for the time I've slept here, but it's still weird. I stand and stumble my way to the side of Sollux's bed, managing to find the chair due to the dim lights from the hall and the medical equipment.

As my eyes adjust to the dark, I see that Sollux is sleeping on his side, with his harm hanging off the side of the bed. I don't want to wake him, so I gently move his arm back onto the bed, but lace my fingers with his as I'd done earlier in the day.

I sit there for awhile, alone with my thoughts before I begin falling asleep, my head drooping and I lean closer to the bed. I sigh and cross my arms, laying my head down on top of them, managing to keep my grip on Sollux's hand.

Hopefully nightmares won't bother me now.
