Chapter Fifteen
They woke early and took a long hot shower. Alex pushed her against the wall after they washed their hair. She was forceful and full of passion. Piper gave in to her need and whimpered with sweet delight when she pulled her hair back. The pelt of the hot water on their flesh brought flashes of other scenes in her mind. Early morning passion in the Litch showers...hot baths in their Paris hotel room...their first night fucking in this amazing shower...all whirled through her mind as her wife fucked her hard.
Piper needed it so much. She needed to feel release and controlled. Once they left their home today, forces in the world may step in to their reality and leave them helpless again. It was their greatest underlying fear. So Alex faced that fear by spending her passion with Piper. She used her talented fingers to send Piper screaming, then pressed her own swollen sex to Pipers ass. She shuddered again when she felt Alex press her spasm filled body against the cold stone of the shower wall and pump her hips with powerful thrusts.
"Oh fuck Al..." Piper cried out closing her eyes and reaching down to pinch her own clit, jerking back and coming again. Her knees gave out with that climax. She was limp and held up only by Alex's body. She felt her wife turn off the water and lift her up. She circled her arms around her neck and turned to kiss her. They clung together in the shower after the kiss.
"I don't want to let you out of here. Out of my arms..." Alex whispered against her ear.
"Please Al, let me go with you today. I can cancel that event; it isn't anything I can't do next week. Please, this is more important." She had stopped trying to convince her at midnight when Alex put aside her shrimp fried rice and then she dove her head between her thighs.
"No we discussed this last night. You know lots of locals are going to be listening in to this show because both circuit judges are on it. You were excited about it a few days ago. You go do your work, and when you're done, Nichols, Morello and I will meet you at the Brooklyn store," Alex explained. Piper bit her tongue and kissed her again. It was hard not to just tell her she'd be there no matter what she said. It was a meeting with lawyers. Piper had a ton of those before. She knew Alex was arrested and her home seized from the moment of her arrest. She was very well traveled and they were afraid she'd disappear. She was crucial to taking down the midlevel members of the cartel and they kept her in jail. It had taken some of her time off when she went so Piper tried to keep that in mind. She had a very different experience.
As they got dress, Piper started to tell her about it. They had talked about it briefly at Litchfield but Alex had changed the subject. Those years, she had been in Vermont but Piper was there in New York.
"The first meeting with Larry's dad and the prosecutor was so scarey, I threw up in the bathroom before hand. I didn't tell Larry but I tasted puke the entire time he told me that since I didn't have any information to offer, I would be prosecuted later. He told me that I couldn't leave the state and explained to me the reality of the cost of legal fees. I had to wait on papers and when I was sentenced it was almost a relief," Piper shared.
Alex nodded but was quiet as they got dressed. She fixed them both half a bagel and Piper only ate hers so Alex wouldn't fuss. Nicky and Lorna were meeting her at the office so they shared a cab to the radio station office building. Piper leaned back in the seat as the cab pulled to the curb. She had hoped Alex would change her mind but she knew that it was set. She didn't want Piper involved until she knew what they were dealing with entirely.
Alex pushed up her glasses and leaned in to kiss her. She was sweet and light. She smiled and pressed her forehead to Piper's with gentle care. "I love you Pipes. Knock 'em dead, kid." Piper gave her a sweet smile and winked at her confidently. She got out of the car though it was hard to walk away.
Piper was whisked inside and she got right to work. She wasn't a hundred percent and missed many talking points on the panel. The easy part was when she mediated a judiciary debate between the judges. She was able to choose a few questions about mandatory sentencing that really let them share. She wasn't surprised at the candidate that had the best answer. The show was an hour and she had photos afterwards. Twice, Eva asked her if something was wrong. Piper just shook her head and left as soon as she could. In the cab, all she could think about was her friends.
Piper walked in the Brooklyn store and was greeted by Raven. She had Piper a cup of coffee and a good table in the cafe all set up. She was anxious. It was good to see Raven but waiting sucked. She wasn't sure how long they were going to be and she didn't text because Alex had asked her not to. That didn't keep her from looking at her own phone every ten seconds or so.
"We are a bit short handed here but I'm hiring more help tomorrow. How is work?" Raven asked her as she put books back that were left on the tables. Piper told her about the three nonprofits she was working with that year. She had cut back at her job because of illness, life and work with her book. She was planning on going back to work full time by midyear. She told Raven she was afraid to try it again without her help.
"You're the best Raven. I hate I let Nicky and Alex snatch you up." Piper told her with a smile. She realized it was the first real smile she'd had since she left her wife's side. They spoke for awhile and Piper managed not to look for one minute then she read:
Be there in a few
Piper felt her heart race when she read Alex's text. Her eyes darted to the door and that was when she saw Rebecca Kanen walk in and look around. Piper frowned and wondered if she knew her mother no longer worked there. Rebecca's eyes landed on her and she didn't seem surprised. Raven stood up and greeted her like a customer. Piper didn't speak she just watched as Rebecca politely declined service.
"Hello Ms Chapman, I wanted to have a word with you," she spoke carefully. Piper knew immediately that she knew what had happened with her mother. Piper motioned for her to sit down and then asked if she'd like any tea. Again, she declined any drinks.
"What can I do for you?" Piper asked.
"You can contact the job program and get my mom her job back. I know she went off on your and your wife. I don't know exactly the background there but they told me she had contact with someone she was in prison with and was asked to leave. Was it you? Is that how you knew how to find her?" Rebecca asked quickly. Piper could tell she had pieced together information from second sources.
"I was not in prison with your mother...but yes we had a problem. She accused me of telling you where she was and for interfering. She was right in some regards, wrong in others. I just sent you in the right direction and you did the rest. I don't know which halfway house she has been placed at now but there aren't that many. You're a smart girl and now have the connections to find her. But you have to know, she just may not want to see you." Piper spoke the last bit in a soft voice.
Rebecca stiffened and sat up straight. "I know she can't forgive herself. I just want her to have her best chance. I know addicts Ms Chapman...I've studied and volunteered at methadone clinics. Two of my foster siblings are addicts. I am not one by the grace of my talents alone. You see, when I got high, I couldn't draw or create."
Piper nodded understanding more than she could say. She studied and learned about heroin addiction. She studied more after she realized that Alex was recovering. Piper continued to do research on drug laws and how addicts are treated in prison.
"Your mom seems to be active in the program and I know for a fact she has helped to save lives of other women on the edge. I don't really know her but I do know that any relationship takes two people that want to be active," Piper told her after she thought for a long while.
Rebecca looked over at her, " She is my mother. I deserve a conversation beyond an awkward phone call. I want to tell her that I made it on my own because I had a solid foundation. I remembered what it was like to have a good mother and I never thought she didn't love me...before she went to prison and shut me out of her life." Piper reached out and held her hand. Rebecca swallowed and looked away from her. It was then that she saw Alex standing there watching her. They had come in as Rebecca talked and from their expressions, Piper felt they had overheard her word.
"Oh, Rebecca, this is my wife Alex and our good friends Nicky and Lorna," Piper said in a polite tone. Rebecca took a moment turn away and gather herself before switching to polite gear. Piper stood and walked in to Alex's arms. She searched her face for any sign as to how the meeting went but she couldn't tell. Alex had on her full protective glare.
"Hello Rebecca. Your mother doesn't work here anymore and Piper talking to you caused problems in my home. I'm sorry for your family troubles but please don't ask Piper to do anything else for you." Piper gasped at Alex's words.
"It is nice to meet you. I'm Lorna Morello and I was the one that contacted the program about your mom. I didn't want her to end up back in prison or in the hospital. Please, though if you'd like a drink or a new release, stay...we have a meeting to attend," Lorna said in a business tone that stunned Piper. Nicky didn't speak to her at all, she just made her way towards the office in the back.
"Um, I'm sorry Rebecca but she's right. You know what you need to do and I wish you the best. You're a good daughter for trying for your mom." Piper told her as Alex excused them and walked them into the office.
She sat down on the couch and tried not to be scared out of her skin by how they all dismissed Rebecca and moved them in to the office.
"We will talk about what just happened with Rebecca later, right now, someone tell me exactly what happened with the lawyer, now. Do we need to pack and run?" Piper asked them as they all sat down to face her. She felt her stomach drop when Alex took both of her hands and leaned forward to speak to her. Before she spoke, Piper kissed her on the lips. She thought maybe she would eat the words and the fear...maybe she could kiss away all the change that could be coming from her lips. They pulled apart and pressed their foreheads together and Piper waited for her wife to tell her what happened.
