Conversations

It was a few days after September first, and little eleven year old Ginny was curious to know about the vague and black book. She was intrigued, by its worn out condition and the blank pages, and was slowly deciding that she should write in it

She was in the library, it was a quiet Saturday, with hardly any students around. She sat at a side table, which faced the window that proudly presented the Quidditch pitch and the surrounding forests to her.

She gently opened the book, to the first blank page. It was yellow with age and had that murky old smell that Ginny disliked. Anyhow, she dipped her small, feathered quill that she got from Charlie, and started to write.

I am Ginevra Weasely.

Hello, Ginevra. My name is Tom Riddle.

Tom Riddle. What an unusual name. I am also called Ginny, or Gin.

I think I shall continue to use Ginevra, it seems a more unique name than the rest. I've never been too fond of my name, either.

Ginny smiled in delight at the response. It was unexpected and it seemed warm and friendly. She felt some sort of satisfaction, because she had gained a secret friend, that only she knew of, and only she could talk to. It was exciting, and displayed the amazing power of magic.

Tom, I am eleven. How old are you?

I am sixteen, Ginevra.

That's a whole five years older than me! You'd be in your sixth year if you studied in Hogwarts.

Indeed I would. I assume you are in Hogwarts?

Yes I am. I love it here.

Why so?

Ginny rubbed the edge of her quill against her chin, thinking about the few of the many reasons why she loved Hogwarts. Why, it was her second home. She felt free and happy here.

Because I've got my brothers here, and all my friends. There's also Harry Potter!

Harry Potter, you say?

Oh yes, he's amazing, isn't he?

Yes, I should think so too.

There were conversations on every little thing in school. It was all said in detail from Tom's side, as Ginny would marvel at the amount of knowledge he possessed. He would help her with homework, tell her about his time. He'd share the secrets of the school and list out the names of the Elves that worked there. And she'd return the favour by telling him everything she knew. After all, it was just a diary, right?

Tom, did you like Professor Binns?

He's dreadful, isn't he?

I wish he'd stop talking in that flat voice. It would make anyone sleep.

Yes, considering he is a ghost, he's not the most active teacher.

After a few months passed by, the Devil had set his trap.

Ginevra, would you do a favour for me?

Of course Tom. What would that be?

I need you to open something for me...

And that's when the story continues, to writing on the wall with blood and releasing the basilisk. And in the end, it was Harry potter who had saved everything, including her, from the book that she thought was her best friend, to finally becoming her husband.
