JACE HAS A BIRTHDAY pt 1
"It's not that I don't want to, I just don't want to." Jace sighed. Clary glared at him, her hands on her hips. She gave him a pouty look.
"Come on Jacey! Pweez, for me!" She begged, throwing herself into his arms like she was fainting. Jace looked at her. She pouted even further. Jace sighed once more and threw his arms in the air, letting Clary go.
"Fine! Fine, we can go camping." He growled. Clary squealed, leapt into the air and clapped.
"Yes! We're going to have so much fun! I'll go get it set up!" She shouted, bolting up to his room in the Institute.
~THE NEXT DAY~
Jace sat in the front seat, Clary next to him.
"So where is this Klein Far-something Park thing?" He asked. Clary shook her head.
"Clarence Fahnestock Park, and it's in three exits. We're site number 57." She informed him.
"And it's just you and me right?" He asked. She nodded.
"Yep!" Jace turned at the exit and drove down the road till he saw a sign labeled Clarence Fahnestock State Park. He turned on the dirt road leading into the campsite and stopped at the registration booth.
"Hi! Welcome to Clarence Fahnestock Park! Do you guys have a reserved spot for today?" The guy at the desk asked cheerily. Clary leaned across Jace because she knew he wouldn't know how to talk to a mundane peacefully.
"Yeah, hi. Last name's Fray, we reserved spot 57." She said. The guy checked something on the computer then smiled.
"Welcome Ms. Fray!" He handed them a ticket and she stuck it in Luke's truck's window. Jace drove on.
"I could've talked to him." He grumbled finally. Clary burst out laughing.
"Like you did with me the first time we met?" She laughed again. "You wish. No offense Jace, but your people skills aren't really the greatest." Jace pursed his lips.
"But my boyfriend skills are." He mumbled. "Right?" She grinned.
"Sure."
They pulled into the campsite, turning off the engine. Clary leapt out and went to the bed of the truck. She pulled out their bags and the tent.
"Sure was nice of Luke to let us borrow the truck." Jace commented. She nodded.
"Grab a bag." She said. He leaned over the side and grabbed Clary's Lion King bag. She dropped the tent bag on the little circular clearing for tents. She pulled it out of its bag and laid it out. "Hey, Jace! Come help me with the tent!" She called. Jace looked up from exploring around a small creek flowing next to their site. Hey bounded over and they put the tent together.
"Okay, this was probably a good idea." He omitted. She smiled.
"Told you! See you I know you so well, I also know you missed out on this stuff as a kid." She replied. Suddenly a red truck drove up. In it were Maia and Jordan. Maia leaned out her window.
"Hey guys! Hey we're going to get our stuff set up and then we'll trek on over!" She said. Jace furrowed his brow. Clary smiled and wave as the truck drove on.
"Clary, what are they doing here?" Jace questioned. Clary looked over.
"Huh? Oh Maia and Jordan, I invited them to come camping." She replied. Jace furrowed his brow even more.
"You said it was just us." He demanded. She gave him a look.
"Oh sorry babe, I thought you meant just us at the campsite." She said. He sighed.
"Well, Maia and Jordan aren't so bad." He said. She smiled, skipped over and kissed him on the cheek.
"Come on, we'll have fun this weekend!" Clary spun and returned to the truck to unload more stuff. Jace sat down on the park bench table and watched the camp area around him. Clary set down a camp stove beside him and grabbed his hand. "We should go adventuring!" She shouted. She pulled Jace up.
"Clary don't we go adventuring enough? We are Shadowhunters." He mumbled. She smiled.
"ADVENTURING JACE, ADVENTURING!" Jace just gave her a smirk and they crossed the creek. The two barreled up the hill on the other side, grappling at the ground every few seconds. They made it to the top and admired the slightly-higher-up view of their campsite. "I'll race you to Maia and Jordan's site!" Clary shouted, tagging his shoulder and racing off. Jace grinned and chased after her, easily overtaking her. He caught her shoulder and they crashed onto the ground together.
They had, in fact, made it to Maia and Jordan's campsite; 60. When the two crashed into the ground, Maia and Jordan looked up from their attempts at putting the tent together. Maia raised an eyebrow.
"Are you two alright?" Jordan called. Clary waved them off as Jace smothered her with kisses.
"Jace!" She giggled. "Jace! Come on, we should help them." She said as he rolled over.
"I won." He breathed.
"Not yet." She replied, shot up and slid down the hill. Jace followed her down. Clary pushed herself off the ground at the base of the hill and launched over the creek, she landed on the other side.
"I win." She said, taking a bow. She turned to face Maia and Jordan. "Can we help?" She asked. Maia nodded, dropping a tent pole.
"This is ridiculous, putting up a tent should not require having paid attention in Pre-Calc." Maia snapped. Jace picked up her tent pole and kicked the direction book so it faced him.
"I got this." He mumbled. Jordan stepped back.
"Well alright then."
"We have arrived! Fear not! The party can start now!" Someone shouted. Jace looked behind himself and growled something under his breath. Simon was marching towards them. Jace looked over at Clary, an eye twitching.
"It's your birthday Jace, what did you expect me to do? Not invite your friends?" She asked coolly.
"The bloodsucker is not my friend." He grumbled and returned to putting the tent in order.
"SIMON! I refuse to do all this work! Come here and do it for me!" Izzy shouted from the neighboring site. Simon turned around and returned to his site. Clary glared at Jace in what might have been a menacing way if she was scary in any way.
After they assisted Maia and Jordan Jace and Clary returned the site 57 and she grabbed a snickers bar to snack on. Jace sat on the picnic table top.
"How many more are coming?" He asked, wincing as he did.
"Um, Alec and Magnus." She replied, hopping up next to him. "Come on, it'll be fun!" She said.
~LATER THAT EVENING~
Jace walked over to the cooler and grabbed another bottle of beer.
"Oh hold on, I'll grab the opener for- oh." Simon said, watching Jace just rip the cap off.
"Thanks anyway." Jace said, returning to the circle by the fire.
"Jace, Jace, toss me the marshmallows!" Clary said, still laughing at Magnus's story. Alec leaned against Magnus's shoulder.
"God, Alec remember when Jace read the original version of Hansel and Gretel to Max? He couldn't sleep for weeks and refused to eat anything sweet for the longest time!" Izzy said, laughing. Alec nodded.
"In my defense," Jace said, handing Clary the marshmallows. "I did not know there was a difference." Clary popped a marshmallow on a stick and held it over the fire.
"Got any good stories Maia?" Magnus asked, remembering that neither Jordan nor she had said anything for quite a while. She shook her head.
"Not really, I don't have a lot of good times to tell about." She replied. Clary leaned forward, swishing her marshmallow around to put out the fire burning on it.
"Aw come on, we have awesome stories about kicking Jace and Jordan's asses on Mario Bros." Clary suggested.
"True." Magnus sighed, leaned back and said,
"I've got one. It was a while back and Ragnor and I-"
"Oh Raziel! No! No! As the birthday boy I declare this story outlawed! We are not hearing the real story of how you got banned from Peru!" Jace shouted, pointing at Magnus. Magnus huffed, Alec turning red next to him, and crossed his arms.
"Fine then, I won't tell a great story." He grumbled. Jace yawned, stretched and checked his watch.
"By the Angel, it's already midnight. Clary, I'm turning it in, we'll celebrate tomorrow all night when my birthday actually is but I'm tired." Clary nodded.
"I'll be in in a second then." She replied. Jace nodded, stood and set the half-emptied bottle of beer on the picnic table. He unzipped the tent and entered.
