AN: Hellooo my lovely readers! I am once again blown away by all your amazing reviews and follows! It seems like most of you liked the kiss so yay I'm glad you did! Also, I know a lot of you have been asking to see Klaus' point of view so maybe you might get a little treat in this chapter ;)
She woke up to the sound of her phone ringing on the nightstand next to her bed. She squeezed her eyes closed tightly, and pulled her comforter over her head in an attempt to block out the ringing. After a minute it stopped, and Caroline relaxed a little in her bed to try to fall back asleep. Not even 30 seconds later though, her phone was ringing again.
"Ughhh," she groaned, as she reluctantly pulled the comforter down from over her head, and reached over to look at her phone. She picked it up to look at the screen as the name "Katherine" flashed on it, along with a picture of the brunette bombshell. Normally, she would have just ignored the call, but knowing Katherine, she wouldn't stop calling until Caroline answered, so she brought the phone to her ear, and pressed the green button. Before she even got a chance to say hello Katherine's chirpy voice came over the speaker,
"Hello, hello, how is my best friend this morning?"
Caroline rolled her eyes despite the fact Katherine couldn't see her, and looked over at the digital clock on her nightstand.
"Katherine, you do realize it is 7:30, right?," she said, trying to subtly give her the hint that she had woken her up. Whether she got the hint or not, Katherine didn't seem to care, for she responded,
"Oh shoot is it? Damn it that means I'm running late! Listen I'll be at your house in 15 minutes, and you better not still be in bed when I get there, I want to hear all about your non-date with Klaus!"
With that she hung up, leaving a groggy Caroline staring at her phone wondering how in the hell the two of them were friends. Katherine's words also reminded Caroline of the reason she was so tired this morning, she didn't sleep very well due to what happened last night. As she lay there in bed her mind flashed back to what happened…
X
The ride back to her apartment had been incredibly awkward. The two of them didn't say a single word the whole way except for when Klaus asked her if she was cold, and she said no. Other than that they rode in complete silence. It also didn't help that since they were on a motorcycle, Caroline literally had to straddle behind Klaus, with her arms wrapped around his abdomen. Incidentally, it is very hard to try to ignore someone's presence when your front is pressed up against their back; the whole way home she was just hoping that he couldn't feel how fast her heart was beating. If he did he didn't seem to let on though, he just faced forward the whole way, as they shot through the streets at speeds much higher than the speed limit. Honestly, she wasn't sure which of them was more anxious to get home, her or him.
When they finally got home he insisted, despite her many protests, that he would walk her to her door. The walk to her apartment door was if possible even worse than the motorcycle ride, because of the fact that they could see each other's faces. She tried to keep her head down the whole way, and thanked Jesus when she finally saw her door in sight. Her keys were out before they even reached it, and when they did she hastened to unlock the door as fast as she could. When she finally got the door open, she turned to Klaus, and offered him an awkward smile,
"I had a nice time, Klaus, I'll...um...I'll see you at work," she stammered, before quickly retreating into the safety of her apartment, and moving to close the door.
But just before the door closed, Klaus stuck out a hand and held it open,
"Caroline, wait!" he urged, his eyes pleading with her to talk to him.
She slowly turned around, and looked at the man standing on her threshold. He was standing there, one hand still on the door, almost as if he were afraid she would slam it in his face at any moment, and the other hand in the front pocket of his pants, a nervous habit of his she had noticed. Her whole life, Caroline's first instinct had been to flee from any scary or unknown situation, and so that was what she tried to do here.
"Klaus, I'm really tired, I think I'm just gonna go to bed" she said quickly, before attempting to shut the door again.
This time however, Klaus not only pushed the door back open, but walked into her apartment obviously not taking no for an answer.
"Aren't we going to talk about this?"
Caroline wasn't facing him but she could just imagine the look on his face, those blue eyes were probably boring into the back of her head right now, begging her to grow up and face the consequences of her actions. She closed her eyes trying to block out the whole situation, but Klaus was persistent, so he asked again,
"Caroline, aren't we going to talk about this?"
This time Caroline blew up on him. She whipped around to face him, and yelled
"What do you mean THIS, Klaus? Please tell me what exactly THIS, is!"
Klaus narrowed his eyes at her, and walked a little closer, as she gestured vehemently between the two of them.
"This! Us! What happened back there, the kiss, all of it!," at this point he was yelling too, clearly annoyed at her lack of acknowledgement toward what just happened.
Caroline shook her head back and forth as he spoke,
"No Klaus! You don't get it, there is no us! The kiss was- it was just a mistake," she stammered as she began to retreat further into her apartment to escape Klaus, but before she could get anywhere he grabbed her hand and pulled her around to look at him.
As she looked up at him, she tried to ignore the tingles that were running through her palm where Klaus was touching her. When she met his eyes she saw such strong, raw emotion in them, so much that she wasn't even sure what to make of it, but if she had to describe it in one word it would be: longing. Caroline tried to turn away from him to break their eye contact that was starting to make her weak in the knees, but Klaus once again pulled her back, this time grabbing her other hand so that he now held both of them, forcing Caroline to at least face him if she wouldn't look into his eyes.
"Look at me Caroline," he said softly, but she wouldn't.
"Look at me Caroline," he repeated, this time more sternly, causing her to slowly raise her eyes to meet his.
"The kiss was not a mistake," he whispered, with unswaying certainty in his voice,
"And, there is an us, there is something between us. I feel it, and I know you feel it too."
Caroline looked up into his eyes, searching them, trying to find something that indicated he was lying, something that showed he was only messing with her to get into her pants, but she couldn't find anything like that at all. Instead all she found was pure honesty, and longing. He was looking at her like no one had looked at her in a very long time, maybe even ever.
She opened her mouth one more time, trying to think of anything to say to make him believe there was nothing between them, but before she could even get any words out, he grabbed her hand, and brought it to his chest, right over where his heart was.
"Do you feel that?" he whispered, in a gravelly tone, "that's how I feel about you…and I know you feel it too," he finished, bringing his other hand up to tuck a piece of her hair, behind her ear.
Caroline closed her eyes at the feel of his hand lingering by her face, and she involuntary leaned into it. She could feel how close Klaus was standing just by the heat that was radiating off his body. A million thoughts were going through her mind at that moment screaming at her to walk away, or to tell Klaus that there really was nothing going on with them, heck, one or two of the thoughts even included slapping him in the face, but she couldn't bring herself to do one of those things, she couldn't even bring herself to move.
"Caroline," Klaus said in a hushed tone, his British accent making her name sound magical upon his tongue, "do you feel it?"
Finally, Caroline made a decision, snapping her eyes open, she looked up at Klaus, looked up at those deep blue eyes that held so much emotion and ambiguity, looked up at his mouth that was telling her all these things that felt so right, she looked up at him and for once the blonde didn't say anything at all, for once she shut up, and let her actions speak for her, surprising both herself and Klaus, she stood up on her tiptoes and softly pressed her lips against his.
At first, she could feel his whole body tense, clearly not expecting her to do just that, but after a few seconds his body relaxed against hers, and his lips responded, moving against hers in a slow, fluid pattern. She moved a hand up to his head, and ran her fingers through his soft blonde curls as she had longed to do for so long, pulling him closer to her body as she did so. Klaus responded accordingly by putting his hands on the bare skin of her waist, where her shirt had ridden up, and pulling her flush against his body. Suddenly, the kiss wasn't soft and slow anymore. She needed more of him, god she needed more. She had wanted this for so long, and she could already feel warmth beneath her legs that was spreading throughout her entire body. He lit a fire in her, and the only thing that could put it out was his lips. He teased her lips with his tongue, asking for entry, and she happily obliged, letting out an involuntary moan at the feel of his tongue touching hers.
They stumbled over to the couch, where they both fell clumsily, mouths never parting. She was wide awake now; her whole body was a mixture of electricity, and fire. Klaus removed his lips from hers and replaced them on her neck, playfully nipping at her skin, causing her back to arch up from the couch.
"Klaus…" she panted, as his lips moved down from her neck to the top of her chest, kissing and biting every section of bare skin in sight. Caroline's nails dug into the material of his shirt as he kissed her, and suddenly she needed more, she needed to feel his skin against hers. She quickly tugged at the bottom of his shirt, pulling it up a little. Quickly, Klaus got the hint, and pulled the cotton shirt over his head, revealing his chiseled chest.
Caroline had seen pictures in the magazines, and clips from the movies, but god they did not do him justice. His abs rippled underneath her hands as she ran them up his torso. His whole body was muscle, from his arms, to his chest, to his back, and she imagined much more. She reached down to the bottom of her shirt, and pulled it over her head as well, revealing the black, lace bra that she was wearing. Klaus' eyes darkened as he looked down at her, filled with lust; she could feel him against her leg, as he leaned down and started kissing his way up her torso, until his face was hovering right over hers. She looked into his eyes, as he leaned down, and slowly met her lips in a long, passionate kiss, only pulling away when his lungs felt like they were about to explode. She was on fire and her center was pulsing, she wrapped a leg around him, pulling him closer. She needed him, she needed him now, she needed-
Ring, Ring, Ring, came the sound of the house phone, as the two were making out on the couch. Klaus moved his lips down to her neck,
"Just leave it," he murmured between kisses,
She moaned in agreement, fully intending to do just that until the animated caller I.D. voice, said, "Lockwood, Tyler calling."
Suddenly her eyes shot open. It was as if someone had poured cold water on her, and woken her up from a dream. Oh my god what was she doing.
She quickly sat up, pushing Klaus off her a little,
"Oh my god," she said out loud, as she hurried to pick up the phone before it went to voicemail.
Klaus stood up from the couch and awkwardly watched as she answered it,
"Hello, Ty," she said, trying to hide the fact that she was out of breath.
"Hey, babe," came his voice from over the receiver,
She brought a hand up to her head to try to focus as she stood there with the phone in her hand,
"Hey, why are you- I mean isn't it really late over there why are you calling?" she stammered nervously,
"Oh, I just wanted to hear your voice, see how your day was."
She squeezed her eyes closed,
"It was good,"
"Yeah, how was the Boardwalk?" he asked,
She froze, her blood ran cold,
"How did you- how did you know-?"
"I saw a bunch of fan pictures on twitter and stuff of you and Klaus," he answered before she could even ask the whole question,
"Listen, Tyler, I'm sorry I didn't tell you," she started, already on the defensive expecting him to blow up again like last time, but instead he said,
"Nah, babe it's fine, I'm not mad I swear."
She was about to apologize again before her mind registered what he had said,
"What, you're not mad?" she questioned, totally and completely shocked.
"Yeah, listen I know you guys are costars, and friends, so it's not a big deal I get it. I just want you to know that no matter what lies they print in the magazines, that I trust you, okay?"
Caroline, stood there, eyes squeezed shut as she tried to breathe. She felt like she was going to throw up. The guilt was so crushing she couldn't even form any words, and so she just stood there for a while not saying anything until Tyler said,
"Care, you still there?"
She nodded her head and then realizing he couldn't' see her said,
"Yeah I'm here, listen I have to go can I call you tomorrow?" she had to get off the phone; she wasn't sure how long she could keep talking to him without bursting into tears.
"Yeah sure thing babe, I love you!,"
"I love you too," she said trying hard to pretend she couldn't feel Klaus' eyes on the back of her head.
With that, she hung up the phone, and slowly placed it down on the table. She stood in that same position for a while, facing away from Klaus, her head in her hands.
"I think you should go," she said softly, so quietly he could barely hear her.
"Caroline-"
"Just go," she said louder, sterner this time.
She heard him gather his things, and walk over to the door. The moment she heard it close behind him, she ran to the bathroom, and threw up.
X
15 minutes later, when Katherine got to her apartment, Caroline was up, showered, and drinking a cup of coffee on the couch, while watching the news.
"I have arrived!" came Kat's voice from the doorway, Caroline looked over to see the brunette walking her way holding a stack of something in her arms, and a brown Panera bag in her hand. She walked over to where Caroline was sitting on the couch, dropped the stack of magazines on the table, and said,
"Spill."
Caroline leaned forward, and started picking through the magazines. She and Klaus were on every cover. There were pictures of them with fans, and pictures of them walking, and eating dinner, there was even a picture of them at the coffee shop. She quickly looked at all the covers, before letting out a breath, there were no covers of them kissing on the Ferris wheel, guess no one had seen them at the height.
"So, how was your lunch," Katherine asked, putting extra emphasis on the word lunch,
She looked down at all the magazines, avoiding Katherine's stare.
"Okay...so maybe it was more like dinner," she admitted
The brunette let out a sharp laugh, before taking a seat on the couch next to her friend and taking her coffee cup.
"Man the magazine industry should be thanking you today for providing their only source of news," Katherine joked as she picked up the magazines, and started reading the covers,
"Caroline and Niklaus' Night Out, Caroline and Klaus: Just Friends?, Caroline's Affair with costar Niklaus Mikaelson, oh and this is my personal favorite, Caroline and Klaus, the New Brangelina?," Katherine finished with a laugh, throwing all the magazines back onto the table.
Caroline groaned in misery at all the different stories,
"Kat it isn't funny! This is really, really bad!," she said, putting her head in her hands, as she leaned back on the couch.
"Oh relax Blondie it'll blow over before you know it, plus it's not like any of its actually true," she said taking another sip of Caroline's coffee.
Caroline looked down at her hands.
Katherine glanced over at Caroline, and raised an eyebrow,
"It's not like any of its actually true, right?," she repeated, sternly enunciating every single word.
Caroline looked up at her friend and shrugged her shoulders guiltily,
"Oh Caroline!," Katherine admonished, putting the coffee down on the table.
Caroline put her head in her hands again in shame,
"I know, I know I messed up!," she cried out,
Katherine shifted closer to her friend on the couch and put her arm around her in comfort,
"Oh Care, you know it'll be alright so you kissed Klaus, one kiss is not a big deal," she said in support, trying to make Caroline feel better.
But Caroline, looked over at her friend, and frowned guiltily,
"Caroline, you did just kiss him, right?," Katherine asked, almost afraid of her answer,
"Well…"
"Oh my god Caroline you had sex with him!," Katherine shouted standing up from the couch and walking over to the other side of the room where she began pacing.
"No! I did not have sex with him!," she yelled in defense, blushing at the idea,
"I just maybe might have made out with him, and then kicked him out of my apartment…"
"Oh my god Caroline, do I need to repeat the bottle metaphor, DO I?!"
Caroline rolled her eyes at that stupid bottle metaphor again,
"First of all if you mention that god damn bottle metaphor one more time I am going to hit YOU upside the head with a bottle, and second of all, it was a mistake! It just sort of happened, we kissed on the Ferris wheel and the"
"Wait!," Katherine interrupted, stopping her pacing to turn and look at Caroline,
"You kissed on the Ferris wheel? Did anyone see you?"
"Not that I know of…" she answered guiltily,
"Oh Caroline this is really bad…what about Tyler..? What are you going to do?" Kat asked hesitatingly.
Caroline sighed, as she massaged her temple, and attempted to answer the same question she had been asking herself ever since her little make out session with Klaus.
"I have no idea what I'm going to do I just- I'm not this kind of girl you know? I'm not the girl that cheats on their boyfriend for some hot guy, I'm not the kind of girl that cheats on anything period!"
Katherine walked back over to the couch and took a seat next to her friend. She had warned Caroline about this, not because it wasn't something she wouldn't do herself, she was a total advocate for having a delicious side dish to go along with her main entrée any day…but she knew Caroline wasn't that kind of girl. And the more and more she thought about that, the more and more she realized something.
"You're right Caroline you're not the kind of girl that would cheat on your boyfriend…but you did."
Caroline looked up at her friend, shocked that she would say something like that, despite the fact that she definitely deserved it.
"You did cheat on Tyler, Care, and maybe…maybe that means something…"
She looked at her friend, her eyebrows narrowed in confusion,
"What are you saying Kat?"
Katherine sighed,
"Maybe you have more than a physical attraction to Klaus…"
Katherine expected Caroline to blow up in her face, and completely deny any type of romantic feelings for Klaus, but instead she just sat there, looking down at her hands, in silence.
"I can't," she finally whispered after a few minutes of silence.
"But you-"
"I can't Katherine!" she yelled at the brunette, "so can we please just forget about this whole thing!"
Katherine sighed, knowing that there was no way either of them were going to forget about the K word, but not wanting to push Caroline she just nodded.
"Can I just ask one more question?," she said,
Caroline looked over apprehensively, and then noticed the sassy look on her friends face,
"Was he a good kisser?"
She let out an honest laugh, and smiled at her best friend. Only Katherine would focus on that detail amongst all the other drama of the situation.
So with a wink, and a toss of her hair behind her shoulder Caroline got up from the couch, looked back down at her friend and said,
"Katherine, a girl never kisses and tells!"
X
Klaus' POV
Klaus awoke to the sound of someone pounding on the door, and a pounding in his head.
"Oh fuck," he cursed to himself, as he got up to go see which bloody idiot woke him up this early when he was hung over. He opened the door and sure enough, that idiot was Stefan Salvatore accompanied by his little brother Kol.
"What the hell are you two doing here?," he growled at the two intruders.
Kol stood with a grin, clearly already enjoying the entertainment factor of a hung over Klaus, Stefan on the other hand was looking at Klaus with a look of concern mixed with amusement.
"Dude, you look like shit," Stefan said, before walking past him into the apartment. Kol followed him.
Klaus closed the door behind them,
"Yes, please come on in," he said sarcastically
Stefan set a bag of breakfast sandwiches down on the table next to an empty bottle of Bourbon,
"Dude, was your non-date with Caroline that bad?," he joked, picking up the empty bottle and throwing it in the trash.
Klaus narrowed his eyes in confusion as he walked into the kitchen to get some aspirin,
"How do you even know about that?"
"Well for one thing I'm friends with Caroline and she told me yesterday, and for another thing, I'm pretty sure there isn't a person in the world that doesn't know about it..," he said, pulling out a stack of magazines from one of the bags on the table. Klaus walked over from the kitchen after taking some aspirin and looked at the magazines.
"Oh well that is just fucking awesome," he laughed humorlessly
Kol, who at this point was sitting on the couch with a bottle of beer decided to pipe in sarcastically,
"You know big brother, I'm normally not too perceptive about these emotion type things, but I'm gonna take a guess and say things did not go so well with Caroline,"
Klaus glared at Kol, and took a seat at the table, reaching into the bag to pull out a sandwich.
"It's complicated," he muttered in between bites of his sausage, egg, and cheese.
"Complicated as in 1+1 did not equal 2?," Kol jested , taking another swig of his beer.
"Complicated as in I don't want to talk about it," Klaus mocked back, god why in the hell did Stefan bring Kol.
Stefan watched Klaus eat his sandwich; he clearly wasn't going to tell them what happened, so looks like he would have to find out from someone else instead. Pulling out his phone he started dialing a number.
Klaus noticed, and asked, "What are you doing?"
Stefan brought the phone up to his ear,
"I'm calling Caroline, maybe she will tell me what happened last night,"
Klaus tensed, as he anxiously glared at his best friend,
"Alright fine, I'll tell you! Just hang up now!"
Stefan hung up, and looked towards Klaus expectantly, not even bothering to comment on the strange way Klaus reacted to him calling Caroline.
Klaus ran his hand through his hair nervously as the two men stared at him patiently,
"I may have…well I accident… I made out with Caroline last night.."
Kol, who had just taken a sip of his drink immediately did a spit take, and Stefan's jaw dropped.
"You what!?," Stefan yelled,
"Dude normally I would be all for you making out with hot chicks, but Caroline A) is my best friend, and B) has a boyfriend!,"
"I know," Klaus muttered
"I mean seriously now there are all these rumors, and people are gonna start investigating more, like come on man she doesn't need you messing up her life, why don't you find some other girl to get off to, because Caroline is more than just a play toy for when you're horny!," Stefan yelled angrily, automatically entering protective brotherly mode.
Klaus slammed his hand down on the table at Stefan's words, all his anger and frustration built up to that point was about to be unleashed,
"Don't you think I know all that! Don't you think I know that I'm messing up her life! And that she has a boyfriend! Don't you think I know that I am the last thing that she needs, that I'm not good for her!"
Stefan and Kol both watched Klaus in shock as he went off. Klaus was not one to ever feel any type of regret for messing up anyone's life, especially a girl's, but here he was getting so torn up about Caroline.
"God, I wish that I could just go find some random girl to sleep with, no strings attached. I wish I didn't feel the way I do towards Caroline! I wish I could feel the type of indifference towards her, that I do towards every other woman on the face of this earth, but I don't! For some strange reason unbe-fucking-knownst to me, Caroline makes me want to be the type of guy that she deserves. And I don't want to fuck up her life, I really don't but- I…I just …"
Klaus suddenly couldn't say anymore, and he sat back down. Kol and Stefan sat staring at him with bewildered looks on their faces. They sat in silence just staring at him for a while until Stefan said,
"Dudee… you're falling for her!"
Klaus scoffed, "I'm not falling for her!"
"Oh if you're not falling for her then what the fuck was that?!," Kol challenged
Klaus sighed, unable to come up with anything to say in defense. They all sat in another silence for a while until Kol suddenly burst out laughing.
"What the hell is so funny, Kol?," Klaus asked in annoyance
"I was just thinking," he said between his laughter,
"What the hell are you going to do now?"
Klaus groaned and rubbed his temple with his hands in an attempt to massage away his troubles,
"I have no fucking idea…"
AN: So what did you guys think? We got to see the aftermath of the Ferriswheel kiss, some Caroline/Katherine interaction, some Klefan bromance, and the introduction of Kol! I know a lot of you don't want to make Caroline a cheater, and I didn't at first either because I didn't want it to somehow invalidate Klaus and Caroline as people, but I have realized that real people make mistakes, and that doesn't always make them bad people, sometimes the pull you have toward one person is just too strong. Okay enough of that, let me know what you though! Please review they literally make my life! Until next time ;)
