Chapter 21

A/N: I'm back after far too long with what will hopefully be another sucsessful chapter. WARNING: This chapter is going to jump around quite a bit between characters in an effort to not have to backtrack and to keep tabs on them as this chapter has quite a bit more action than I'm used to. Forgive my grammatical mistakes because I still have a rehaul to do on all the previous chapters so I'll fix them after the story is completed. Anyways, ON WITH THE FIC!

The sight that greeted the inu's army was the last thing they expected. The wolves, numbering near a thousand, were tearing each other apart. Inuyasha, however, had eyes for no one but his missing mate, whom he frantically searched for in the sea of snarling faces. Then he saw her on a giant rock, right in the middle of the battle. Just in time to see her tackle a female wolf that looked as if it had been moving to strike Kouga. The force of her tackle sent them both flying into the writhing mass of fur and teeth and blood and he lost sight of her.

"Kagome!" He yelled desperatley, but before he could do anything else, his army met the first line of wolves. With a viscious snarl, he dove into the fray, determined to rip apart any wolf that stood in his way. Hold on, Kagome!

Kagome braced herself as she and Ayame rolled across the stony ground. Feet and paws moved all around them and she feared they would be trampled in an instant, but it seemed that the wolves loyal to Ayame had enough of their senses to make a small bubble of safety around them while still fighting against their crazed brethren. Ayame snarled and shook herself as she rose, trying to loosen Kagome's grasp, but the miko only clung tighter.

"Let me go, Kagome!"

"No! You have to stop!"

Ayame tried to pry her arms away from her shoulders, but even in bloodlust she still seemed not to want to hurt her friend. "I have to do what is right!"

"Killing him won't fix this, Ayame!" She screamed desperately over the roar of the battle., sprays of blood hit them and she closed her mouth before any could get inside.

Ayame used the blood of her pack as lubrication and slithered out of the young woman's grasp. "I won't let this go on! I have to protect my clan!"

"Silina is the only one who can stop this! We have to get to the Black Queen! Help me to keep my promise to you!" She pleaded.

Ayame seemed to be fighting a battle within herself and then her crimson eyes faded back to blue. "I will help you, my sister."

Kagome fought not to cry out in releif, but she did spare a moment to wrap Ayame in a swift hug. As Ayame turned to allow Kagome to get onto her back, the miko spotted a discarded bow and quiver of arrows. They didn't seem to have any purpose and she knew she had never seen a wolf use ningen weaponry. Her suspicions rose for a moment but she did not hesitate to pick them up. Donning the quiver she climbed onto Ayame's back and the young Queen leapt into the battle.

Kagome reached back and grabbed an arrow, notching it for flight as Ayame's claws cut through the flesh of her rabid pack members without hesitation. She had a vague memory of the day she had fought the ape in Keade's village all those years ago. She channeled her miko energy into the bow and through it to the arrow and let fly. The wolf she hit had been riding the back of one of Ayame's wolves and he immediatley burst into ash.

She felt Ayame pause beneath her and saw the look of shock on the face of the wolf she had saved before they moved again. She fought down her own suprise that she had been able to do it and did not feel drained at all as she usually did using her powers. There would be time to contemplate this later. She notched another arrow and let it fly and she and Ayame carved a path of blood and ash to reach the Black Queen.

Inuyasha lost track of how many wolves fell to his claws and sword, but it seemed for every one he killed two more took his place. His army was well fed and rested but they were outnumbered by almost one hundred to one. Even knowing that his brother's army of undead youkai would arive at any moment he felt there was no end in sight.

Suddenly, he sensed an attack from his right and dodged it. He spun to face his attacker and saw Kouga. All other thoughts left his mind as a well of fury overwhelmed him.

"You!" He snarled, readying himself to attack.

Kouga laughed and the sound would have sent a weaker youkai running. "How sweet of you to come to my mating, pup. And you've brought me a gift of playthings for my pack. Kagome will be pleased to see her new people so happy."

"She will NEVER be happy with YOU!" He roared and leapt to attack him.

Kouga barely dodged his mad swing and lashed out with his claws, catching Inuyasha's sleeve. and slicing through it, barely missing flesh. Inuyasha swung the butt of his sword backwards and it managed to connect with Kouga's head in a solid blow. The wolf staggered back, but recovered in an instant and stepped aside to dodge the hanyou's claws as he swung.

"So you say, inu. She has already agreed to mate me." Kouga taunted. "She has even picked out a few servants and made friends with her co-mate. She seems to be taking being my queen to heart."

Inuyasha snarled inartculatley and swung his sword, gathering energy from the air and unleashing it in a burst of power. Kouga leaped aside in the last instant as the ground on which he stood exploded, sending huge shards of rock flying in all directions. Cries of agony could be heard as Inuyasha leapt to where Kouga landed and started again on his assault. An animal fury rose within him as they dealt blow after blow. He could feel cuts opening on his flesh and saw Kouga's blood soaking through his clothing and staining the Tetsiaga, but neither seemed to be able to get the upper hand. The youkai around them fell to missed attacks and soon they had cleared a large area to fight. Neither checked his blows in and way and the ground beneath their feet bore craters and no small amount of blood. But all of this was beyond thier notice as they focused wholly on each other with deadly intent.

Sango spat blood from her mouth as she rose and pulled her father's katana of the chest of the wolf who had struck her. She saw Killala pin another to the ground and saw archs of blood shoot from her body as the firecat's claws ripped through her flesh and she cried in agony. Miroku's makeshift staff sung and beat a morbid tune as it struck the heads of his attackers. Seeing more move in on her, she swung her katana around and severed the head of one before he even had a chance to strike. Another lost an arm to the biting blade. Feeling another wolf move behind her she turned her katana backwards and stabbed to her side, feeling the blade sink into flesh and feeling a fresh wash of blood spatter on her shoulder as he cried out with his dying breath. But the move had left her open and a fast female took the oppurtunity, digging her claws into the tajai's side and raking four deep furrows down to Sango's hip.

The warrioress could not check her cry of pain and she could feel a burning sensation creep from the wound's as the youkai's claws poison started to take affect. She fought to think through the pain and reached with one hand to take a dagger from her belt and in a lighting fast move she buried it in the female's flesh, stabbing upwards under her chin, cutting through bone and into her brain. the light went out of her eyes and Sango withdrew her dagger only to fling it at a wolf in full youkai form as he leapt at her. He yelped as the dagger sunk into his shoulder and dropped from the air. She stepped forward and stabbed him in the throat. She knelt down to retreive her dagger, only to have to abondon it to roll aside as another wolf leapt at her back.

She fought it back as well, but had no time to rest as she saw Miroku being pushed back by more wolves and she leaped to his aide. She felt Killala move up beside them and they fought together, finally able to move forward once more as they fought deeper into the wolves's mountain den.

Finally she saw the room that held their weapons and moved towrds it. Miroku saw it as well and they fought to it. Killala bounded after them and stood at the narrow entrance, holding the wolves at bay while Sango and Miroku tore through the room to find their belongings. Sango almost cried with releif as she uncovered her armor and weapons. She glanced at Miroku, thankful that he seemed occupied, but there was no time to be modest so she stipped down into her underclothes and moved to don her skintight leather underarmor. She pulled it up to her waist and then reached down into a puch that had been with her weapons and pulled out a small container of antivenom and quickly slapped some on the maddeningly painful wounds on her side. She dropped the container back in er pouch and pulled the underarmor the rest of the way on. Withing moments she had donned her outer armor and was strapping her weapons on, including her father's katana and mace. The last weapon she donned was her beloved Bonemerang. she had to fight the urge to run her fingers over it before she swung it into place on her shoulders. Finally, she felt like a tajai once more.

She glanced over at miroku and saw that he had found his staff and had donned a protective outer rhobe along with a sheaf of what looked like sutras. they nodded to each other and leaped back into the fray with Killala. With her proper weaponry, Sango and Miroku had a much easier time of clearing out the rest of the group of wolves inside the cave. Killala snarled at a few young females who were tenaciously guarding a room full of pups and wolven children of varying ages and sizes, but Sango called her off. No matter what evil the wolves had done, she would not kill children. Instead, she and Miroku moved to the prison caves and began the task of drawing out the terrified and starving prisoners.

Kagome was quickly growing tired and her arms shook as she notched yet another arrow. She had barely eaten or slept beyond being rendered unconscious in a week and it was taking its toll. Still she, continued, fighting through her weariness. It would all end today no matter what the outcome.

Without warning, an impossibly strong blow struck Ayame from the side, sending them both flying. She shook herself and looked up to see one of the giant wolves that had guarded the back entrance to the wolves den standing over her. It opened it's cavernous mouth and moved to strike, she charged her miko energy, even knowing that by the time it was purified those teeth that were as large as her body would have already struck home. She braced herself, but the blow never came. Openeing her eyes she saw something that left her frozen with shock. A tall inu warrior stood between her and the giant wolf. He stood tall and immaculate as the wolf's giant head rolled along the ground, and he swung a giant sword to shatter the skull even before the body and sagged to the ground.

He turned to look at her and for a crazy moment she thought Inutashio was staring at her, before she realized it wasn't him. Before she could fully wrap her head around the fact that he was an inu and had just saved her life, she felt herself being snatched up and carried away. She looked up to see it was Ayame and there was more blood running down the side of her face from a nasty looking wound near her hairline. She felt concern wash over her for the young queen before they broke through to the edge of the battle.

And found themselves face to face with the Black Queen and her spider guard.

A/N: So there is my first stab at a real battle scene. How'd I do?

I know that this has been awhile in coming, but there has been so much going on i havent been able to write. This time I'm making no promises, but i will try to stick to my determination to continue writing and finishing this story.

I have all but abandoned all of my other stories as well, but i am also going to be working on getting them finished at the same time, so bear with me and I'll try to keep updates steady.
