For once in it's long existence, Olympus was eerily quiet, even the wind is now just a soft breeze that swooshed left and right in anticipation. Poseidon found it all unsettling, and judging from the reactions of the other gods, it was also an uneasy feeling for them. Zeus was always big and loud in his anger, striving for everyone in the world to know when he was displeased. But now…he had locked himself in his palace and refused to speak to anyone. Normally, no one would mind if he's sulking, but Poseidon knew that this was the same silent flame of anger that usually blazed in Ares. Fearing his brother might take the last jump straight into insanity, the sea goddess went in search of Hera. She must know, something, anything…
Of course, her luck be dammed…the first person she had stumbled was the new 'god' of love, Aphrodite in all her plastic, male perfection, dressed in pants that were under the pressure of sticking to his legs like second skin. Maybe this wasn't bad, perhaps the younger cousin was finally ready for a civilized adult conversation.
(15 minutes letter)
Gah! You're insufferable…you know what? Fine I'll take the spell off!"
"You will?" Poseidon blinked, surprised.
"Under one condition," he said, weaving an elegantly manicured finger.
"Oh this will be good…what is the condition?" The goddess crossed her arms.
"She has to have as many kids as your son had in that Disney film…what was it called..?"
"Don't you dare…" she despised that mortal film.
"Oh yes...the LITTLE MERMAID, the story about the daughter you could never have! So guess what? Unless she gives you all those granddaughters, she stays with t***!"
Probably every amount of water, be it clean or mixed with wine or other drinks, at that moment decided to boil and fizz out of existence. In seconds, the sea goddess grew tenfold taking on an incredibly scary warrior-like form, perhaps even with an insane look filled with rage. She was like a tidal wave that was getting ready to get close to her enemies' head and engulf them.
"Impudent brat! " she roared and the columns shook from the intensity of her voice. "How dare you presume you can make such demands before me! You should be happy that I turned you into a man! Now, I see the only righteous punishment would be having all of your holes sewn shut so you can't s*** your way through the mortal realm anymore!"
"How dare you! " It was Aphrodite's time to stand, he grew and was engulfed in a pinkish gold light , perhaps neither as tall nor as majestic as the sea goddess that was the pure embodiment of dark foreboding waters, but still. And as things were boiling to a storm, a silent swift and precise slash sliced the air and kissed the ground right between them. The harmless explosion tore the two away from each other. A bit dazed at what had happened, Aphrodite landed in a rose bush and Poseidon barely avoided falling in to a fountain, instead stopping herself to sit on the edge.
"ENOUGH!" Zeus in all his mighty glory entered the courtyard, his beard trimmed and his toga glistening with a golden thread. He looked younger, more attractive. And the only thing that sparked in his sibling's mind was "So he finally accepted his middle age crisis" That though, however, was quickly wiped away as the king of gods slowly made his way towards her, eyes cold and stern. Something was brewing, she could feel it in the air. Before anything could be said or done, Zeus held his hand out in a silencing manner.
"Olympus is being wrecked with misfortune, anger and continuous fights…I now see that this cannot continue…we must unite and be a family like we were always meant to be…" he started simply and Poseidon could not help but be surprised. The thunderer continued.
"I know I have been...preoccupied with distractions and it is my own fault that things have gotten so bad between us brother…" the goddess allowed herself only the faintest of smiles before answering.
"Perhaps we are all to blame in our own ways…" she tried diplomatically.
"Yes…at any point I have given it much though and I have discovered the source of every problem betweens us…"
"Oh?"
"I think you'll agree with me when I say that we must eliminate our problems at the very roots so that they won't return…am I right?"
"Absolutely," Poseidon stood and nodded her head with a smile. Finally he seems to be acting like an actual adult!
"Good…then with great sadness, I have informed you that I have given out a death sentence to Perseus Jackson."
"What?!" The whole world stopped for Poseidon and a cold and sudden rain fell on the mortal world below. "How is that a just decision, brother!? How can a mortal boy/girl be a root of our problems."
"Because it is the truth."
"You can't just go down to the greek camp and kill him! It is against your own bloody rules! He has not offended you in any way!"
"But the bolt.."
"You have no proof!"
"I need no proof. He has disrespected us, all he causes is fights betweens us Olympians…and, if that is not enough reason for my future interference, then perhaps you wish for me to send hellhounds to tear him to pieces, brother?" His eyes were cold and devoid of humanity. For a moment, Poseidon wished Hermes was by her side, lending her the power of his silver tongue…or Hades, even Athena so she could force some sense into that thick skull of his.
"Your son!" she finally said, as an idea popped into her head. For a moment, the younger one seemed perplexed.
"What about my son? You wish to kill him?"
"No…I want your son to carry out your so called execution!" Breathing deeply, Poseidon continued, "Percy deserves it, I deserve it...he is my son and he will not be executed like a commoner! He deserves a chance to die in the blaze of glory like a gladiator in the Romans times!"
Zeus pondered it for a moment.
"I presume that you hope he could win against one of my sons…even then, I would send the monsters after him…so why bother? My sentence for that sea scum is death and there is no escaping it."
"You know well why…you know the rules of Hades, he has the right to die a hero in a fair fight, not executed by beasts of questionable intellect."
"You are in no position to make demands brother."
"Was it not you that said we must stop fighting? If you wish for us not to have another argument that will topple Olympus then agree to my terms…after all…we both know you have children to spare, don't you?" Her eyes narrowed into snake-like slits, and accusations came out in a hiss. She and Zeus stared into one another's eyes for a incredibly long time before the thunderer finally looked away and nodded.
"Fine…Jason will be the one to end this…he is my son. It's a fitting way for him to earn his first human kill…serving Olympus."
The sea queen straightened her back proudly, "If that is all brother, I think it's time I finally depart from Olympus back to my home.."
"Poseidon, this is your home.."
"I beg to differ.." She sneered, teleporting away and in moments, evaporating in a salty mist.
Percy woke up in her room at the lotus hotel, blinking. A strange dream yet again. A horse and an eagle fighting on a deserted beach while thunder clapped, and then suddenly a silence fell on the land as if someone pushed the mute button on a video. The only thing she could hear was her own heartbeat as the eagle charged at her, claws extended and its beak opened in a silent shriek. The white horse stopped it, allowing the feathered creature to slam into its body knocking them both to the ground. The horse dispersed like a popped bubble and the eagle turned into a shining ball of light, slowly taking a form of a human, a boy her age bathed in a golden glow with a sword in his hand. For a moment, she was happy. He seemed like an ally, someone to help her stop this fight, but then, when their eyes met, she saw a storm in his eyes as he charged at her, ready to kill. The last thing she saw was a golden line slashing through the dark sky.
