Chapter 18: The Aftermath
Loki's body jerked awake a couple of mornings after the trail. Tony had offered his place as a safe haven again. The dark haired teenager eased himself back down on the leather couch. After a couple of minutes, he sat back up again. The last fragments of his dream came to him.
All he saw in his mind's eyes was Fandral's smirking face. Loki gulped as he got off the couch. He made his way out onto the spacious porch. He leaned against the railing, taking in the view of New York.
"Had that dream?" Tony's voice asked, flying into his ears.
Loki turned to look at his friend before saying, "Yeah. It's always the same."
"Steve wants to take you to a doctor in the afternoon," Tony said, walking up to the thinning teen. "We all want you better."
"I know. And I'm thankful for that. I-I just want this over with," Loki said; his gaze returning to the lights of the city.
The genius place a hand on his friends shoulder. A small smile appeared on his face. Tony led Loki back into the apartment.
"You can take my bed," Tony said, sitting on the couch.
"I couldn't," the dark haired teen said, shaking his head.
Tony shot a stern glance at him. Loki chewed on his bottom lip. His gaze lowered as Tony practically shoved him in the bedroom just off to the side of the living room. The dark haired teen sat on the edge of the bed. As soon as his friend left the room, he quickly fell asleep.
The teenage Stark's alarm began to blare in Loki's ears sometime later. A groan escaped past his lips. He sat up, letting his hair fall into his eyes. Loki pushed it out of the way as he got out of the bed.
Loki eventually made his way out of the bedroom. Faint arguing floated to his ears. Green eyes looked into the dining room. Dark eyebrows knitted together when he saw Tony arguing with an older version of himself.
"As I said before, he's not safe at his old place. This is safe for him," Tony said, crossing his arms over his chest.
"I don't think it's wise Anthony," his father said, shaking his head.
"Just let him stay until the end of the week," Tony persisted.
His father sighed and set down the paper he had been reading. The two Starks stared at each other. Loki quietly walked into the room.
"If I go back to stay with my family, I'll be kicked out and have nowhere to go," he said quietly.
Tony looked at his friend. He quickly dropped his arms to his sides. He glanced at his father before going to make breakfast. Loki shifted on his feet as an awkward silence settled between the teenager and the adult.
"So you're mischief maker right?" Howard Stark asked in an attempted to break the silence.
Loki raised an eyebrow and asked, "And if I am?"
"It would be good for one with your name," he replied; a small smile appeared on his face.
The teenager rolled his eyes. He went into the kitchen to check on his friend. Tony stood near the stove. He glanced at the dark haired teen.
"Dad asked you about your name?"
"Yeah. It became a little awkward in there," Loki said, motioning towards the dining room. "Steve's coming over right?"
Tony smiled and nodded. Loki touched his friends shoulder. He walked past him on his way to take a shower. The teenage Odinson closed his eyes as the water ran over his slender body.
Loki finished his shower after a while. He got dressed, avoiding looking in the mirror above the sink. He knew he would see the same exact distraught face he had seen on the day of the trail.
He stepped out of the lavish bathroom. He felt himself bump into someone. After mumbling a quick apology, he looked up to see the blond hair and blue eyes of Steve.
A small smile appeared on Loki's face when Steve said, "Let's go get you better."
A/N: One more chapter, that's it for this story. In the future, I might revisit this story and rewrite some chapters and such, but that's a big maybe.
