Strangers in the Night
A Pitch Perfect Story
Chapter 5: I Must Have You
Disclaimer: I do not own anything familiar.
Author's Note: Finally, I have the time to work on another chapter, but I need some advice from all of you. I'm thinking about changing what Jesse's secret is. I was hoping that you all could leave in reviews some suggestions of what Jesse might be keeping as a secret from Beca. If I do decide to change the secret after all, I will give the winning reviewer credit for their suggestion! Thanks for your help.
Title comes from third line of the second verse.

Beca woke at noon, because she was up half of the night perfecting a track for some actor turned wannabe rapper. She wasn't sure that he was going to make it in the music business, but he had bought studio time and paid handsomely for the best engineering team at Wharton, so she was stuck with the job. She was exhausted and miserable, and she wanted nothing more than to spend the day in her pajamas eating ice cream and reading. She was up for barely a hour, having done nothing more than brush her teeth, wash her face, and curl up on the couch with a half-gallon of mint chocolate chip ice cream and a glass of water. She had her nose buried in a trashy romance novel and a spoonful of minty goodness buried in her mouth when her cell phone rang. She contemplated hitting ignore for a moment when she realized she was grinning around the spoon like an idiot after seeing that the caller id read The Nerd. That was not good. She pulled the spoon from her mouth, stabbing it into the ice cream and pressing the phone to her ear. "Halwoah?" She said as she attempted to swallow the ice cream. Her brow furrowed at the rich sound of a chuckle. Jerk. "What's up, nerd?" She finally asked after she swallowed the mountain of ice cream.
"I was calling to tell you that I'm running a little late for our first movication this afternoon. Traffic is a bitch right now." He cursed loudly in her ear, making her pull the phone away from her cheek. "Sorry, some asshole just cut me off." He proceeded to complain about all of the asshole drivers on the road at the moment, and he appeared not to care that he was doing all of the talking. She, on the other hand, was slamming her fist into the couch cushion beside her repeatedly, because she had forgotten that they had made plans to hang out that afternoon. She pouted, staring longingly at the container of ice cream and the written porn that was her trashy romance novel, both of which were resting on her coffee table.
"It's fine, Jess," she said, cutting off his tirade about asshole drivers who need to learn how to drive. "Why don't I let you go, so that you can concentrate on getting here in one piece? Text me when you're parking, okay?"
"Sounds good. This is gonna be fun, Beca."
"Totally," she said, quickly saying goodbye and hanging up the phone. She raced to the kitchen to put away her ice cream and then ran to the bathroom to get ready. It took her less than ten minutes (thank God she shaved her legs yesterday!) to shower, brush her teeth, and get dressed in a pair of jean shorts, a white t-shirt (this time, she paired it with a matching white underwear set, because she didn't need to draw attention to her chest when she was going to be all alone with a guy she found totally sexy), and a pair of white knee high socks (just in case there was some stubble). She braided her hair into a single French braid and lined her eyes with her usual black eyeliner and mascara. She had just finished adding a swipe of pale pink blush to her cheeks and a little tinted lip balm to her lips when she heard the buzz of her cell, indicating that he was close.
Beca grabbed her phone, reading the text from Jesse was on his way up. She walked back to the living room, grabbing her book and marking her place, before she shoved the book back on her bookshelf. There was a knock on the door, and she blew out a breath of relief that she was completely ready in time for his arrival. She walked over to the door, opening it to find a handsome Jesse, dressed in a pair of jeans and a yellow button up shirt, standing in front of her. He was holding two grocery bags in his hands, and she cocked an eyebrow at him. "Nice grocery bags." She told him cheekily as she stepped back, letting him through the door.
"Nice socks," he responded as he headed to her kitchen table to put down the bags.
"Don't judge. They're comfy and warm. Plus, they hide the fact that I shaved my legs yesterday and didn't feel like doing it today."
"Yum. Nothing sexier than leg stubble." She rolled her eyes at him, pulling out one of her kitchen chairs to sit in. She watched as he pulled stuff from the bags.
"What's all this?"
"The necessities for an excellent movication." He pulled out a bag of marshmallows, a box of graham crackers, two huge bars of chocolate, a box of pretzels, a box of chocolate chip cookies, two two-liters of Pepsi, a bag of chips, a jar of salsa, a bag of cheese curls, a bunch of juice pouches, and finally, a couple of DVD cases.
"Um, why do you have more than one DVD case with you?"
"In the event that you decide you need to watch the sequels to the movie I brought to start your movication." She rolled her eyes, standing up to grab bowls and plates for the food. They lined the dishes on her end table (that was always clean for exactly this purpose, and because she hated clutter). Once they were settled on the couch, sipping their juice pouches and eating their microwaved s'mores (it always amused her to watch the marshmallow balloon to three times its normal size), he set a DVD case in her lap.
"Jurassic Park." She read off the case. She cocked an eyebrow at him. "Dinosaurs? Really?"
"Hey, I chose to bring a sci-fi movie with arguably one of the best musical scores of all time that has no romance in it, but instead the violent deaths of a number of people via extinct creatures from millions and millions of years ago. You know, to make sure that this second date is a true success." His grin was addictive, no matter how hard she tried to keep her own off of her face. She rolled her eyes, turning away from him to bite into her s'more.
"Let's get this over with."
"That's the spirit!" Jesse joked, standing up to walk over to Beca's DVD player. He put the disc in and grabbed the remote, returning to the couch. He sat down next to her. "I'm surprised you even had a DVD player."
"Well, I gotta watch my porn on something, right?" She said with as straight a face as possible. She popped a chip into her mouth.
"I think I hate you..." He told her, earning a grin. She bit her lip and leaned back on the couch with the bowl of cheese curls in her lap. She turned so that her feet were resting across his lap (she might as well be comfortable if she was going to be forced to watch a movie). He looked down at her feet and then up at her face, but she turned her attention to the TV screen, watching the start of the movie, all the while munching on her cheese curls. She watched him out of the corner of her eye shake his head, amused, before laying a hand on one of her calves. She could feel the heat of his hand through her sock, and it was very distracting.
Beca made it through the movie up until the fat guy who essentially caused everything to go wrong started getting attacked by some kind of tar spitting dinosaur in the jeep he stole before she decided that she needed a break. The bowl of cheese curls had been abandoned long ago, and at some point during the movie, Jesse had shifted to lie on his side so that his head was lying on the lower part of her thighs and an arm thrown over her shins. The jeep started rocking, and she couldn't help the laugh that spilled out of her. "It looks like something that would be in some cheesy teen comedy where the couple gets it on in the car, and the camera pans away to show a rocking car." She rolled her eyes, turning her head to glance down at the top of his head. "My butt's asleep. I need to move, and I need a break."
"You can't be serious? Beca," he sat up enough to look at her more firmly. "C'mon, this movie's so good!"
"It's not bad. I'm enjoying everyone's deaths, but it's my first movie in years, you can't blame me for not being able to go for two hours without having to get up and move around a little. I think you should count your blessings that you weren't kicked out by this point." She smacked the back of his head after he scrunched his nose at her and turned his head to bite her leg. "Hey!" She pouted, and he stuck his bottom lip out at her, mimicking her expression. He shifted, so that he was half-lying on her legs, kneeling beside her. He inched his way up her body to press a light kiss on her protruding bottom lip.
"Turn that frown upside down," he whispered against her lips, grinning when her lips twitched. He brushed his lips against hers a second time, and this time, she arched her body into his, letting him kiss her more firmly. In the background, she heard the screeching sounds of the T-Rex chasing after a jeep of people, but her attention was focused on the sexy man lying on top of her. He felt warm, and he smelled amazing. Every part of her was screaming to tear their clothes off and do the dirtiest of things with him, but then there was the stupid dare. She couldn't let Aubrey win. Even if she lied to them all about not having sex with him, she would know deep down that Aubrey won the dare, and her competitive side wouldn't let that happen. She was going to go through with this stupid fucking thing, because she never backed down from a dare. Why did he have to be such a good kisser or so fucking sexy? She broke the kiss, taking a couple of deep breaths, whimpering when he grinned against her jaw as he kissed his way down it to suck lightly at the skin behind her ear.
"Jesse, wait." Beca couldn't believe she was saying those words, because she had never said those words. Her first kiss turned into her first make out session to her first trip around the bases when she was fifteen years old with a hot senior named Kevin. She didn't say no, because she never let anyone close enough to her that she didn't want to say yes to. Here she was, though, saying no to an entirely too enticing guy that she wanted nothing more than to scream yes at over and over and over. She didn't fight Jesse to stop too hard, though, because instead of reaching up to push his head away, her hand tangled into his hair and pulled his mouth closer to her neck. "God, that feels so good," she moaned, her eyes drifting shut at the sensation of his mouth sucking on her earlobe. She pulled at his head, bringing his mouth back up to hers. She moaned into the kiss, shifting her body so that her one leg hooked around his. Her eyes flew open at the realization that they were getting to dangerous territory, as in the grinding phase of a hot make out session, which was not approved for another few weeks. She pulled out of the kiss, biting her lip as she stared up at him.
He slowly opened his eyes, the lids hooded with desire, smiling down softly at her as he took in the sight of her biting her lip. "You look so sexy when you bite your lip." He said huskily, squeezing her hipbone with his hand. She jerked, and it took everything in her to keep her hips from arching to meet his. She released her lip and stared into his eyes.
"I love kissing you...like so, so, so, so much, but we've gotta stop." She told him, and his brow furrowed in confusion. She understood why he was confused, because on their first date, only days earlier, she had told him that she was essentially a bit of a slut. "It's just that, um..." She paused, not sure what to say to get this make out session to stop before it had even really started. "It's just that your beard kind of hurts." It was true to an extent. Her chin had been rubbed raw for about a day after their heated kiss on Tuesday night, so it was as good an excuse to stop the kiss now in order to prevent the beard burn she would get from these kisses.
"Shit, seriously? My bad, Becs." He pulled off of her, grabbing her hands to pull her up, too. She sighed quietly in relief, giving him a shy smile, thankful that they had made it through this make out session without any difficulty. This dare sucked, she'd decided, because she really wanted to fool around with him, and she couldn't. "Let's watch the rest of the movie, okay?" She nodded her head.
"Yeah, but I'm gonna run to the bathroom first. Wanna order us a pizza? I like sausage on mine." She stood up, pulling her shirt down, because it had been bunched up around her middle during their kiss. She made her way slowly to the bathroom, trying to keep up the appearance that she was fine. The second she was out of sight and hearing, she rushed down the hallway to the bathroom. She shut the door and sat down on the toilet. She was totally in trouble.
Beca took a couple of minutes to compose herself. She blew out a deep breath and closed her eyes. She wanted to quit this dare here and now. She didn't care about the bullshit that she would hear from Aubrey. It wasn't worth it anymore. It was only their second date, and she found herself really liking Jesse. She definitely felt sexual chemistry with him, and she had had a lot of fun on their first date, and hanging out and watching the movie this afternoon wasn't too bad either. She stood up, brushing her hand over her face. It was time for her to head back out there. She exited the bathroom and made her way back into the living room.
She watched as he dropped his phone onto the coffee table and gulp down a glass of soda. He glanced up, seeing her standing in the doorway. He looked unsure, obviously wondering if she was lying about her attraction to him, and she smiled at him. "Pizza will be here in twenty." She nodded her head. She stood there a moment, tugging on the bottom of her shorts. "You okay?" She walked over to the couch, sitting down beside him. She twisted her fingers together, chewing on her bottom lip.
"Screw it." She muttered. She pushed herself onto his lap, her hands burying into his hair as she kissed him. She knew that she was toeing the line, but she couldn't help it. She wanted to kiss him, and she wasn't going to let this stupid dare stop her from kissing him. She shifted so that her butt was resting against his thighs, but there was space between their bodies. She wasn't going to grind against him, no matter how much she wanted to. This was just kissing. She was going to keep it that way. She moaned against his lips when she felt his hands slide up the sides of her thighs to settle on her hips. In the back of her mind, she wondered where ass grabbing fell in the dare, but she decided not to care or question it, especially because one of his hands slid to rest on her lower back, just above her aforementioned ass. He tugged at her body, and she slid an inch down his thighs, closer to his intended destination. She tugged on his hair, slowing the kiss some until their lips were simply brushing against each other. She pulled back, breathing heavily, her eyes locked with his.
"Wow." Jesse whispered, raising the hand that was lying against Beca's lower back to cup her cheek.
"Totally worth the beard burn." She muttered, grinning at him. He chuckled, brushing a light kiss against her lips.
"We better stop before I ruin that pretty face of yours." She pouted when he pulled his face away from her hers. "So, I guess this means that I'm going to be shaving my face soon."
"I have a razor and unscented shave gel ready and waiting." He started laughing, but she was completely serious. She was ready to shave his face at that very moment so that they could get back to their semi-make out session.
"That really sounds like a fun way to end this date, but part of me thinks you're probably going to slit my throat with that razor, because I'm going to force you to re-watch everything you missed during our impromptu make out sessions." She groaned, dropping her head forward so that it landed onto the crook between his shoulder and neck. He laughed, running a hand up and down her back.
Fuck the dare. "I'm offering sexual favors to get out of watching the rest of the movie." Beca told him, biting lightly onto his neck. Jesse groaned, tightening his hands on both of her hips.
"Beca," he gasped out, turning his head to catch her lips with his. The kiss turned heated fast, and she was fully prepared to lose the dare in that moment. Except, it didn't happen, because he broke the kiss nearly as quickly as he started it. He leaned his forehead against hers, staring into her eyes as they caught their breath once again. "Believe me, I so, so, so want those sexual favors, but I also want you to watch this movie." She pulled away from him, climbing out of his lap. She needed to regain her composure, and sitting in his lap was definitely not helping her do that. The guy's priorities were seriously fucked up, in her opinion.
"Jesse, seriously? You had a hot chick in your lap, ready and willing to do the dirtiest things imaginable with you, and you say you'd rather watch a movie?"
"Look, Beca, I don't doubt that having sex with you would be fantastic, but I generally don't sleep with a girl on the second date." She cocked an eyebrow at him.
"So, after how many dates to you think it's appropriate to have sex with a girl?"
"I don't have a designated date in mind. It's not like I go into a relationship with a girl thinking 'I'm going to have sex with her on the fifth date' or something." He ran a hand over his face.
"So, how many dates do you think it will take for us to have sex?"
"Someone's impatient."
"No, someone thinks you're hot and likes to have sex." He grinned at her, earning a groan and an eye roll in response. Cocky bastard.
"Someone also told me that she doesn't do relationships and generally is the hookup type, so the other someone is hoping to drag it out for as long as possible, because he is the relationship type and not the hookup type."
Beca blew out a breath. Jesse was saying the perfect thing in terms of the dare. It would be so easy for her to tell him that she wanted to ease into sex with him, and there wouldn't be a problem. On the other hand, she was freaking out internally, because he just said that he was the relationship type. The whole reason she was stuck in this mess was because she didn't believe that relationships worked-definitely not with her, anyways. She hated admitting that she was scared of being in a relationship, but it was the truth. She was scared.
"Shit, now I upset you. I'm not trying to imply that you're a slut or anything...crap! I'm the worst guy in the world. I made you feel upset about yourself two dates in a row. I don't know why you keep giving me a chance." He buried his face into his hands and groaned. "I'm gonna go..." She sighed, reaching out to lay a hand on his arm.
"Jesse, wait, stop. Look at me." He slowly lowered his hands to look at her. "You didn't make me feel bad about myself. I just...you're right. I'm not the relationship type. I've never really been the relationship type. I've always been the type of girl who keeps people at a distance." She rubbed at the tip of her nose, not meeting his eyes. "It's always been easier that way. I don't know how to date or be a girlfriend, so I have no idea how you are putting up with me."
"Well, you're doing a pretty good job at the whole dating thing, but I'm biased. I do kind of have a crush on you." He joked, making her roll her eyes. "I'm sorry that our fun second date got really serious."
"No, I'm glad it did, actually." She took a deep breath. "Since I'm pretty new to this whole thing and doing a piss-poor job at it, I was thinking that maybe we could...you know...ease into things."
"Ease into things?"
"Yeah, like..." She rubbed harder at the tip of her nose as she pulled her legs up to her chest. She wrapped her arms around her legs and bit her lip, studying her knees. She noticed a couple of loan hairs that were starting to sprout up. She always did a shitty job at shaving her knees, because she had cut herself pretty badly there before. Shit. Focus, Mitchell, she thought to herself. "Um, like...take things slow."
"Take things slow? You mean like sex?" She continued to stare at her knees, gnawing on her bottom lip. "Becs, look at me." She jumped when his hand came into her vision and rested on the top of one of her knees. The heat of his hand on her bare skin made goose bumps erupt on her skin, and she wondered whether he could feel the stubble on her knee. She slowly traced her eyes down his arm and over the curve of his shoulder, up his neck, before settling on his face. "We can take as long as you like."
"I don't just mean sex, Jesse." She looked away from him. "I mean, this is our second date, and we're already having this huge discussion, you know?"
"I get it. We'll keep it light, Beca. I like you. I'm having fun getting to know you. I want to know more about you, so we'll take it slow. We'll take it as slow as you need to so that I can keep getting to know you." She blushed.
"I'm not as great as you think I am."
"Oh, I don't know. I think you're pretty fantastic, and I've spent less than ten hours total in your presence." Jesse shifted so that he was closer to Beca. He leaned forward, laying the hand that was on her knee on her cheek. He guided her face closer to his, kissing her lightly. "As long as I can keep kissing you, I'll be happy."
She released her knees, relaxing her body so that he could shift closer, deepening the kiss slightly, but not by much. His hand tangled into the underside of her braid, and her hands rose to wrap around his neck, pulling his body a little closer to her. Even though she was feeling weird about being in a relationship (and she knew that they were well on their way to that), she still felt safe with him. She also knew that she would go back on her word about wanting to take things slower with him if he didn't stop kissing her soon. Plus, the moment was too heavy, and she really needed to break the mood. She eased back on the kiss, pressing a series of light kisses to his lips. "Jesse," she mumbled against his lips, making him hum back in response as they kept up their feather-light kisses. "Were you able to feel the stubble on my knee when you just touched it?"
He chuckled, breaking the kiss to tuck his face into the curve of her neck. She grinned, running a hand over the back of his head. "No, Beca, I did not feel any stubble on your knee."
"Okay, good, because I could totally see it when I was staring at my knee, and I was totally afraid you could feel it."
"You're cute." He said, pulling his face away from her, smiling broadly at her.
"I'm not cute." She said, scrunching her nose and shaking her head. "Totally not cute. Like, that is a word that should never be used to describe me."
"Cute is the perfect word to describe you." His phone began ringing, vibrating on the coffee table in front of them. "I think the pizza's here."
"Oh, yay! I'm starved." Jesse smiled, grabbing his phone to answer the call.
"Yeah, c'mon up. Apartment 8F." He stood up, pulling his wallet from his back pocket after he hung up the phone. He walked to the door of her apartment, pulling a wad of cash from it.
"Hey, let me pay for the pizza! You bought all of the snacks."
"You paid for yesterday's dinner. Let me pay for tonight's dinner. You can buy our dinner next time." She sighed, watching as he pulled the door to her apartment open just after the first knock. He handed the money to the pizza delivery person, taking the box from the pimply-faced high school kid's hands. He told the kid to keep the change, and he shut the door, bringing the pizza back to the table. "Godetevi, bella." He said. She cocked an eyebrow at her. "It means 'enjoy, beautiful,' in Italian."
"Yeah, it's official. You speaking Italian is totally sexy."
"Success!" He said, fist pumping in the air. "Or, should I say, 'Successo!'"
"Alright, that's enough Italian for one afternoon." She said, rolling her eyes and grabbing a slice of pizza from the box. She grinned when she saw that it was a sausage pizza.
"Hey! Sausage pizza happens to be my favorite. It was just a coincidence that you happen to like it, too."
"Uh-huh." She said, biting into the pizza. "Yum."
Beca was in trouble. Like a lot of trouble. Like huge, heaping piles of trouble. Jesse had spent the rest of the afternoon at her apartment, forcing her to watch all three of the Jurassic Park movies. She was able to get breaks in the form of randomly throwing herself into his lap and kissing him, but their kisses never got any farther than his hands grabbing her butt, gripping her thigh, or inching slightly beneath the hem of her shirt. The heat of his hand on the bare skin of her stomach, lower back, and sides was excruciating, because she wanted nothing more than to pull her shirt off and have her way with him. However, by the end of her first "movication," her chin and cheeks were a rosy pink from beard burn, and he was pouting, because he damaged her beautiful and perfect face.
After the credits rolled on the final movie, he turned to her, asking which one was her favorite. Of course, she said the first one, because sequels are never as good as the originals, or at least that was what she heard, earning a playful swat to her butt as she stood up to carry some of the dishes to the sink. She shot him a dirty look over her shoulder. He followed her, boxing her in at the sink as she washed some dishes, pressing a series of kisses along the right side of her neck and shoulder. Suffice to say, she immediately stopped doing the dishes, and they wound up making out against the counter. Her wet, soapy hands were gripping his neck, one sliding up into his hair, and the other tugging slightly at the collar of his shirt, getting both wet. Her lower back was leaning directly against the wet counter edge, and she could feel the spray of the water as it hit some dishes on her back, but her attention was focused on the delicious man steadily sucking all the air from her body. Finally, he broke the kiss, allowing them both to catch their much needed breath. He reached behind her to shut off the water, and it was then that he noticed the rosy hue to her skin. She felt the twinge in her stomach as he frowned, running his fingers lightly against her jaw, cheeks, lips, and chin, complaining about marring her. His behavior was cute, and she hated the way that it made her feel inside. His adorableness made her like him, which was dangerous territory. She found herself really liking him, and it wasn't okay.
"I'm gonna go before I forget my no-sex-on-date-two rule." He whispered huskily in her ear after he pressed a kiss just beneath her earlobe. She couldn't contain the whimper, which made him chuckle in response. The smirk on his face was infuriating and way too attractive, which only pissed her off more. "We really don't want you getting beard burn anywhere else."
"Mean." Beca groaned, laying both hands on Jesse's chest to push him away.
"What? How am I mean? I'm trying to protect your lovely, alabaster skin, Miss Mitchell. I think that makes me a good guy, not a bad guy."
"First of all, I'm not alabaster." She said, rolling her eyes.
"Yes, you totally are! I can see your veins, Beca. You should really get some sun. I'm willing to forgo our second movication as our third date if that means that you and I hit the beach sometime next week. You're so pale, you're ghostly."
"You're annoying." She said, crossing her arms. She moved past him to go grab the rest of the stuff on her coffee table. She grimaced as she bent over; the wetness of her shirt was much more obvious to her now that she wasn't lip-locked with him. She yanked at her shirt, trying to pull the wet spot down over her jeans for the time being so that the dampness wasn't pressed against her skin.
"You should go get changed. I'll finish getting everything cleaned up." She stood up again, holding a bowl of half-eaten chips in her hands.
"You're wet, too."
"Not as wet as you." She raised her eyebrows at him, biting her bottom lip as she tried to keep the grin off her face. "Oh, god! You say I'm annoying? You are killing me, Beca!" She chuckled.
"That's what you get for being mean."
"How was I mean?"
"First, you say that you want to violate your rule of not having sex with me on our second date. Then, you imply all the dirty things we could be doing naked by saying you wouldn't want to give me beard burn on my skin that is not on my face. Those two things. Mean!"
"I thought we decided that were taking things slowly."
"Yeah, we are, but that doesn't mean that I don't want to have sex with you. Sheesh!" Beca briskly walked over to her table to put the bowl of chips down beside their nearly empty bag.
"You want to have sex with me?" She rolled her eyes.
"Of course I want to have sex with you. Where have you been all afternoon? My chin is raw and red, because of how much I want to have sex with you." She stilled when she felt Jesse behind her, gripping her hips.
"I want to have sex with you, too, but I made a promise to you that we would go slowly, so I'm going to kiss you goodbye and head out." He slowly turned her around to face him. He leaned down to kiss her. His hands slid from her hips to her lower back. She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling his body flush against hers. He deepened the kiss; his tongue dueling with hers just enough to make the kiss fiery, but still subdued and slow. She really had no idea how he could do that. His right hand found its way beneath her shit, pressing into her lower back. Slowly, it slid up her back, burning its way along her spine. In the back of her mind, she knew that she was hitting a dangerous territory in terms of the dare. What if he attempted to grab her breast? Boob-grabbing was a no-no for a while longer. The rest of her body, heart, mind, and soul were screaming about letting his man do whatever he wanted with her. Her competitiveness won out, though, because she started to ease out of the kiss, squashing any hint that he was welcome to ravish her body.
Jesse sighed, resting his forehead against Beca's, staring into her eyes as they captured their breath. "Um..." She couldn't form words, it seemed, especially because his hand had started its slow descent down her spine. He carefully pulled his hand from beneath her shirt, raising it to tuck a loose lock of her hair behind her ear.
"I really have to leave." He whispered. She didn't know why he was whispering, but she matched his volume with her reply.
"Yeah, you totally need to do that." She pulled away from him, tugging her shirt back into place. "Like right now, because that kiss only made me want to have sex with you more."
"Goodnight, Beca Mitchell."
"Goodnight, nerd." She said, watching as walked over to grab his wallet, keys, and cell phone from where he left them on the end table. With one last wave goodbye, he walked out the door, shutting it behind him. She collapsed slightly against the table, laying a hand on her forehead. She was in serious, serious trouble, because she wasn't sure that she could make it through the next eighty-some days without having sex with him.
Monday, April 29, 2013
"Hey, sexy lady." Stacie said as she dropped into the chair opposite Beca. The four girls were meeting for diner at one of their favorite restaurants. Apparently, Aubrey wanted to check in with her petite brunette friend to see how week one was going for her, especially because she was being avoided as punishment for forcing this dare. Beca wanted to check in with Chloe to make sure she wasn't having sex, because the redhead went AWOL over the last week since Beca's first date with Jesse. Stacie was the only one that everyone was communicating with throughout the week, and she finally texted Monday at lunch that all four of them were meeting for dinner at seven or else. Beca didn't know what the "or else" meant, but she figured she would go, because Aubrey was probably five seconds away from camping outside of her door. Plus, if Chloe wasn't sticking to the dare, then Beca was going to throw Jesse down the next time she saw him and tear his clothes off.
"Hello, tall goddess who stinks of sex? Who did you have sex with on the way here?"
"Stop. I didn't. I just got out of class. We went to the morgue today to pick out our bodies that we will be dissecting. My partner and I picked a dude with a really big dick. It's a shame that he died. I bet he was great in the sack." Beca stared at Stacie with wide eyes as the busty brunette flipped through her menu. "Mmm! I'm getting steak. I'm starving."
"I was going to eat meat, but after you talked about dissecting someone's body, I think I'm going to go with some vegetarian." Beca muttered, shutting her menu and pushing it away from her. She sighed when she saw a tall blonde approach the table. "Yay, the ice queen is here."
"Ha ha ha, Beca." Aubrey said, sitting down in the chair to Beca's left and Stacie's right. She leaned over to tuck her purse onto the floor between her feet before sitting up once more. She took the menu from the hostess who had escorted her to the table. "Thank you. May I get water with no lemon, please?" She asked the hostess before she walked away. She set the menu down and turned to look at Beca. "So, how's it going with Jesse?"
"Seriously? You've been here all of thirty seconds..." Beca muttered, running a hand through her unruly hair. "Can we at least get the pleasantries out of the way? Where's Chlo?"
"She's on her way. Apparently, she's dressing some up-and-coming starlet for her first movie premiere." Stacie said, reading her phone before her fingers started flying over the keys as she texted someone back. "Oh, she says that you should expect a call, Aubs." Stacie said as she typed away.
"Oh, goody. Another job."
"Speaking of jobs, are you knocked up yet?" Beca asked, making Aubrey roll her eyes.
"We've only been trying for like two months, Beca. I just went off birth control pills. It's gonna take a little while for all the hormones to get out of my system."
"So, no bun in the oven."
"No, not yet."
"Good. Is it wrong that I'm glad you're not pregnant yet, because then you won't ruin my wedding by looking fat?" Chloe said, sitting down in the last empty seat. She grabbed Beca's soda, chugging it down, ignoring the brunette's pout.
"Yes," all three of the other girls said at the same time. Chloe rolled her eyes.
"I need a drink. A really big, alcoholic one." The redhead said, shifting around in her seat to look for a waiter or waitress.
"Don't you have work later this evening?" Aubrey asked, with her eyes wide.
"Ehh, I can be a little drunk to dress a model. Waitress! Can I get a shot of tequila!?" She said, waving her hand at the nearest waitress. The woman furrowed her brow, and Aubrey pressed a hand to her forehead.
"Um, three glasses of white wine, please, and one glass of apple juice. Can you put the apple juice in the wine glass for me? I want to pretend I'm actually drinking without drinking." She said to the waitress. "You can forget the tequila."
"Um, no, she can't. Don't forget the tequila, please!" Chloe begged the waitress, who looked clearly uncomfortable. "And, you're not pregnant, so you can drink alcohol with the rest of us."
"Or maybe she doesn't want to drink alcohol, so stop pressuring her to do it. She does that enough for herself, and she acts like it's her job to pressure us to do the stuff we don't want to do." Beca said, turning her narrowed eyes from Chloe to Aubrey as she spoke. Both women huffed, sitting back in their chairs, crossing their arms as they returned Beca's gaze.
"Okay, enough, guys!" Stacie said, smacking the table, getting the three of them to turn their attention on her, along with multiple people sitting around them. "Seriously, you three are supposed to be best friends. We've known each other for eight years. We've been best friends with each other for seven years. You three need to knock it off. First of all, Aubrey, you need to chill the fuck out and stop pushing your nose into Beca's business over what's happening with Jesse. She's insanely competitive, so she's not going to have sex with him and violate the rules of the dare. At least not in the first week! Let her breathe a little.
"Beca, stop avoiding Aubrey's calls and being such a bitch to her. She's trying to be a good friend and help you try something new. If you really don't want to go through with all this bullshit, then you could stop. You know as well as the rest of us that you've had a great time with him during your dates with him, and you're curious about what could happen between the two of you. Just stop complaining. We're all kind of sick of it.
"Finally, Chloe, you need to stop being such a horrendous bitch to everyone. Just because you're not getting laid, it doesn't mean you can take it out on everyone else. Use your goddamn vibrator and your fingers and take the edge off. Going a couple of months without sex isn't going to kill you. Sheesh! You guys are getting on my nerves, and I'm tired of the fighting and being the only one who you're all talking to."
All three women stared at Stacie in shock. Beca casually looked over at her two friends. Aubrey and Chloe were staring at their hands playing with the rings on their left fingers. She sighed, because she missed her friends. She wanted to talk to the girls about what is going on with Jesse. She decided to be the bigger person (even if she was the shortest in reality). "So, Jesse and I agreed to take things slowly." She said quietly. All three women turned to stare at her. "He...uh...well, he came over for that movication thing on Saturday, and we...well, we made out. A lot. But, he's actually the one who kind of put the brakes on things. I mean, I did at first. I told him that it was his beard that was bothering me, but he looked so sad and obviously thought that I didn't really like him or something." She was rambling, and she knew that what she was saying was making no sense. She paused, taking a deep breath, trying to organize her thoughts. She decided to start over. All three of the girls knew all about her first date with him, and now she was going to start at the beginning and explain what happened on her second date with him.
When she was done, all she got in response at first were huge grins from the other girls. "You like him." Stacie said, putting down her fork and sitting back in her seat. She crossed her arms and smirked at Beca, who blushed, looking away from them. "I seriously didn't see that coming!"
"I don't like him."
"Bullshit. You can't keep that smile off your face!" Chloe grinned, clapping her hands. "Aww! This is so cute! Beca, you have a crush on a guy! This is great! Maybe he is The One!"
"Stop!"
"Guys, you're freaking her out." Aubrey exclaimed, glaring at the two of them. "Beca, I think he sounds like a really great guy. I really hope that things work out between the two of you." She took a deep breath, reaching out to lay a hand on Beca's hand. "You deserve to be really happy, and I can tell he makes you happy. I'm happy for you. Not happy enough to let you out of this dare, because you'd probably sleep with him tomorrow and then never speak to him again. I think that this dare will be good for you. If anything, it will teach you that commitment can be a good thing."
"Uggh, you did so well at first, Aubs, and then you stuck your foot in your mouth." Beca muttered as she shoved a bite of her dinner into her mouth.
"I'm sorry! I just...all I was trying to say was that I'm glad that things are going well. It's only been a week; things will only get better. I promise."
"I just feel bad that she won't be able to have true makeup sex after a fight." Chloe said, running a hand through her hair. "That's the best. Like, sometimes I pick a fight with Evan to get makeup sex. I know that makes me a horrible person or whatever, but I really love makeup sex. You just get so worked up, and then you go all out when you're doing it to relieve that pent up energy and tension." She frowned. "Shit! I can't have great makeup sex with my fiancé for three months!" She wailed, making the girls laugh in response.
Beca's phone buzzed from where it was lying on the table near her plate. She grabbed the phone, seeing that she had gotten a text from Jesse. It was a picture message, showing him with a freshly shaved face. A second text came moments later.

So, I realized that you and I scheduled our third date for Saturday, and that means I won't see you all week. That sucks. So, would you be willing to meet me for a mini-date sometime this week? Drinks? Lunch? Coffee and a muffin before work?
A third and fourth text came in just as she was finished reading the second text. The third text was a picture of him with his bottom lip jutting out. The fourth text simply said one word: please?
"What's with the grin?" Aubrey said, nudging Beca, who reached up to rub at the tip of her nose. "Ooh, it must be Jesse. You're rubbing your nose."
"He sent a picture of himself with a shaved face, because he knew that the beard burn was bothering me. He then asked me to go on a mini-date with him this week, since our next real date is scheduled for next Saturday."
"What's a mini-date?" Stacie asked. "If it were me, then it would be a quickie in the closet at work or something."
"You're such a slut." Chloe sighed, rolling her eyes before turning her attention back on Beca.
"Well, he asked me to meet him for drinks, to get a quick lunch, or to get a coffee and a muffin before work sometime this week."
"You should go on four mini-dates with him!" Chloe said excitedly. "Tomorrow, you guys could meet for a drink after work. Then, Wednesday, you could get lunch. Thursday, you could get breakfast. Friday, get drinks again. Then, you get to do your date on Saturday. What are you doing on Saturday?"
"He's dragging me to the beach or something. Apparently, I'm too pale and need some sun."
"Do you even own a bathing suit?" Aubrey asked her.
"I don't think so."
"Shit! We gotta go shopping. Okay, so tomorrow, do the quick breakfast and-"
"Chlo, I'm not going to see him every day. I think meeting for a coffee before work on Wednesday would be fine. Maybe a couple of drinks after work on Thursday night, but we'll be fine to hold out until Saturday." Beca said, cutting her friend off.
"But-"
"Chlo, chill!"
"She's right. She doesn't want to be too clingy or whatever. Jesse asked to meet with her once, not every day." Stacie said, sipping her glass of wine.
"Exactly!" Beca said, texting him back about meeting for coffee on Wednesday morning before she went into work. Wednesday was her late day, thankfully, which meant she didn't have to be in until ten instead of eight. His response came back almost instantaneously. She blushed as she read his message. She hated how much she was looking forward to seeing him.

Sounds great. See you at 8:30 then. Remember to apply your lip balm and do your lip-ups. We've got a couple of kiss-less days to make up for. ;) xxxx
Author's Note: I've been gone for awhile, I know. I'm not sure when my next update will be, either. I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. Let me know what you think of it! xoxoxo to you all! (Also, don't forget to make your suggestions about what Jesse's secret could be!)
