Chapter 3:
Disclaimer: I own nothing except my OC.
Okay, me been the impatient person that I am, have decided to do a time skip to this time. Time I started getting my OC involved in the events of Mystic Falls. Takes place during '162 Candles.'
Dear Diary
It has been a while since I last wrote a word in your pages, but I have been occupied. My mother has told me that my training was almost done, all I had to do was condition my mind to be able to take on more complex spells as well as my mental powers. However, tragedy has recently struck Mystic Falls with the death of Vicki Donovan. Yet for some reason, Jeremy and Matt are oblivious to the loss, which is weird considering that it was no secret that the younger Gilbert loved her and Matt was her older brother. Something tells me that a vampire is the reason for this.
Someone knocks on the double oak doors and James places the journal high up so it can dry and be out of sight from any unwanted eyes. Getting up from his place on the comfortable sofa, he trudges through the main hall and opens the door to see Bonnie waiting with a small smile. He smiles, steps aside and she walks in. James had heard about the incident at the car wash in which a car had suddenly just burst into flames and Bonnie had stood stock still. He figured her powers were still manifesting and it was a case of anger.
"Bonnie, what brings you by?" he asked and she looked around.
"Is your mom home?" she asked and he shook his head.
"She was called into town for a Council meeting. Everything okay?" he asked with a raised brow.
"I've only told one other person this but in order to explain it I need to show you something so can we go into the living room?" she asked and James nodded, now curious. When they were seated on the sofa facing one another and cross legged, she pulled out a few feathers from her bag and placed them in front of him. "No windows are open, right?" she asked and he shook his head. "No fans are on and you guys don't need air conditioning from the looks of things"
"Bonnie, what is it?" he asked with an amused grin.
"I'm a witch" she said and he pretended to know nothing, raising a brow.
"A witch?" he asked and she nodded.
"Trust me, it's not a lie. Watch" she said and he nodded. She lifted a hand over the feathers and took in a deep breath and one of the feathers rose, levitating on the spot. "See?" she said with an excited grin and he nodded. James pulled one of the feathers toward him and held out his own hand, taking in a deep breath and it too rose to be level with her. "You're a…?" she asked and he shook his head.
"I'm similar. I'm a Druid" he explained and she rose a brow.
"What's the difference?"
"A Druid is more skilled in the use of mental abilities such as reading emotions, reading auras or the act of reading someone's mind. Your aura is bright and if I couldn't see you, I can sense waves of excitement washing over me" he explained and she looked amazed. "Do you remember when I told you and Elena of my background?" he asked and she nodded. "The Morrigan are the three most powerful Druids to ever walk the planet and I am descended from them. The necklaces that I and my mother wear used to belong to them and I can channel their power if I need it" he said and then he held out both of his hands.
"What are you doing?" she asked.
"Just take hold" James instructed and she did. Bonnie could feel a lot of power run through the contact and he smiled as he picked up on her amazement.
"Grams never told me of Druids" she said.
"Druids are the British equivalent of witches. You don't get many of them"
"So does your mom know?"
"Know? Who do you think told me what I just told you? Both of my parents were Druids, it was my mother who was descended from the Morrigan and when my dad married her, he was privy to that same power" he explained and she had a smile on her face. "So who was the person that you told?"
"Elena. She broke up with Stefan and she needed cheering up"
"What happened?"
"I don't know. She hasn't told me all of the details" Bonnie said with a shrug just as her phone vibrates. "It's Caroline. She's throwing a party at the Grill tonight" she said with a smile. "You going to go?"
"Why not? I need something to do" he said with a smile. The door opens and his mother walks in with a relieved sigh. "I'm going to guess that the meeting bored you?" he asked and she nodded before smiling at Bonnie.
"Hey Bonnie" she says and then she notices the feathers. "Please tell me you did not rip one of my cushions" she said and Bonnie shook her head.
"They were from one of Elena's cushions" she said and then she looked at James, who gave her a small encouraging smile and nod. "And I have them out for this" she said, throwing them all up and holding them in place as they began to rotate. Violet smiled as she looked up, before looking back at Bonnie.
"You're a Bennett witch" she said and Bonnie gave a proud smile. "Did you show her?" she asked.
"She knows" he said with a small smile.
"Perhaps we can learn from one another" Violet suggested with a smile. "However, we'll save that for another time. What are you guys up to?" she asked.
"Well we'll be getting ready for a party at the Mystic Grill" James said and she nodded. "Will you be going down? We could grab dinner down there instead of cooking" he suggested and she smiled and nodded.
"Sure. It'd give me a fantastic chance to embarrass my beloved son" she said and he narrowed his eyes whilst Bonnie chuckled.
"Well, I'm gonna go and pick out something to wear. God knows that if I don't pick out something that looks good then Caroline will have my head on a pike" she said and James laughed. "Thank you for today, James. It was nice sharing something like this with you" she said, giving him a peck on the cheek and heading out with a chirpy "Bye!" When he looked at his mother, she had a large grin on her face and an uneasy feeling settled at the sight of it.
"Do not say it" he warned.
"So you and Bonnie?" she asked and he blushed.
"That was platonic" he said and she looked unconvinced.
"And the fact that you two just bonded over sharing magic secrets is supposed to convince me otherwise?" she asked and he sighed in exasperation. "I am just bantering. I read her emotions, no love or anything above friendship" she said and he smiled.
"I know we have only been here a short time, but when it comes to Elena, Stefan and Bonnie, dating anyone of them would feel odd, to say the least" he said and she rose a brow. "If you're thinking that I've been friend-zoned then you are correct, however, I don't mind. I'm not looking for a relationship at the moment" he said and she nodded.
"I do expect grandchildren" she said and he smiled.
"We shall see. I am only seventeen and I do not need to have this conversation" he said with a grin.
"But traumatising you is a mothers job" she protested and he chuckled.
"Yet you wouldn't do that to me because you love me" he said sweetly with an even sweeter smile and his mother gaped.
"You just pulled the sweet and innocent look on me!"
"Maybe I did. I'm going to go get ready"
Despite the fact that Summer was over, there was still some lingering warm weather and the night was no exception. With that in mind, James chose a black thin, long sleeved cardigan that went halfway down his thighs, the sleeves rolled up slightly with a white v-neck shirt beneath and a pair of jeans with a pair of leather boots. He lightly spiked his dark hair in the mirror before heading downstairs where he saw his mother putting on some earrings. Violet smiled at him as she finished.
"Ready to go?" she asked him and he nodded.
"Yes" he said, just as his phone buzzed. "It's Bonnie. She was just checking to see if we were both still going" he said, texting back a quick reply.
"Well let's get going"
The Grill was packed, mostly with teenagers whom Caroline knew, but there were several adult patrons. However, the moment that both James and Violet stepped in, they could feel something that could only be described as a rather prominent energy, and it was rather negative. It manifested as a headache, with James pinching the bridge of his nose and closing his eyes as though frustrated and his mother furrowing her brow, resting her hand on her forehead for a moment.
"You feel what I do?" she asked and he nodded.
"Someone has malicious intent" James said, looking around.
"There are too many people here to accurately determine the source of that feeling" she said.
"One of the flaws of this power" he said, looking around again. He raised a brow when he saw Stefan with a rather beautiful blonde haired woman, her hair flowing down her back. Stefan seemed far too sensitive to move on so quickly, and judging by the energy that the two were giving off, he guessed that they may have known one another for a while, not to mention he hadn't seen her around the town until today. Bonnie approached them with a small smile and he snapped out of his perturbed trance and ignored the headache that he was still suffering with.
"Glad to see you made it" she said and he smiled.
"I did say I was going to get out of the house. That and we couldn't be bothered to cook"
"There's a spare table, come on" she said, leading the two of them.
"So what's the occasion?" Violet asked.
"I think Caroline threw this party just for the sake of it. It's not often that she does it, but she does have a lot of sway with people" Bonnie explained as they arrived at the table.
"I'll go and get drinks. What'll it be for you two?" she asked.
"You'd actually buy us alcohol?" Bonnie asked.
"I am not a total stick in the mud, you do know? There is nothing wrong with drinking so long as it is done with supervision" she said and Bonnie grinned at that, ordering a beer whilst James been more of a formal drinker, went with a fruity red wine.
"I'd have thought you'd order a beer" she said with a raised brow.
"I prefer to drink formally. I'll have two glasses of wine in two hours and then I am on Coke for the rest of the night, or water just to dilute it" he said with a smile.
"Not much of a drinker?"
"I can drink, but I prefer to be cautious. As much as I think this town is harmless, with all that has happened lately with the attacks… I'd just rather not take a risk" he said and she nodded in understanding as his mother came back, handing Bonnie her beer and setting down two wine glasses, filling up from the bottle. He noticed Bonnie looking past him at the pool table.
"Who is that with Stefan?" she asked and James shrugged.
"I have no idea"
"He wouldn't move on that quickly, would he?" Bonnie asked.
"I read their emotions. I could sense familiarity, contentment and happiness. There was no lust, not even an inkling of desire. I think they may be old friends" James said, sipping his drink. He was still suffering with the headache, and judging by the occasional furrow of her brow, Violet was too. It was starting to bother him. A growling sound could be heard and they turned to look at his mother who smiled sheepishly.
"Sorry about that. I am going to order some food. I'll surprise you" she said to her son.
"Okay, spill" Bonnie said straight away and he rose a brow.
"I cannot tell you anything until you explain what it is that you want to know" he said and she rolled her eyes.
"Your mother looks like she is suffering with a headache and you look a little perplexed. Something is bothering you" she said and he sighed. "You don't need to be a Druid to know that" she quipped lightly, but she still looked concerned.
"Me and my mother can sense some sort of negative presence here which points to malicious intent, but we cannot determine where it is coming from. It's manifesting itself as a headache for the both of us" he explained and Bonnie frowned. "It is proving to be rather omnipresent" he said, pinching the bridge of his nose for a moment.
"Have you tried looking at individuals?" she asked.
"We have. However, there are multiple emotions that interfere with that. I could only determine Stefan's emotions because he was next to someone who shared them. Unless someone else in this bar is planning on becoming an axe murderer tonight then I will not be able to pinpoint this bloody feeling" he said with frustration. Caroline then came up to the two with a bright smile on her face, looking at Bonnie.
"Bonnie I've been looking for you. I'm totally sorry to do this I know it's so Indian giver and I know we're not even supposed to say that anymore but I need my crystal back" she said and Bonnie raised a brow.
"Why? You said you hated it"
"Then I saw it on you and I realize how great it is, and I've got three outfits I can coordinate it with so..." James saw through it but said nothing.
"I can't give it back to you" Bonnie said.
"Well, I didn't want to tell you this but I'm your friend, when you wear it makes you look fat. There I said it, but it's because I'm your friend so..." she said and Bonnie looked shocked for a moment and the Brit whispered 'ouch' at the sudden insult.
"I'm sorry Caroline, I can't" the witch said once more, brushing the insult off.
"What do you mean you can't? Bonnie, it's mine" she said with a frown.
"I thought you said it was Damon's?" Bonnie asked.
"It is" Caroline confirmed.
"So he's the one who really wants it back" Bonnie guessed and he raised an eyebrow.
No, maybe… just" she reached out and tried to take it from her neck, but her hand recoils as the pendant shocks the blonde girl who recoils. "Are you wearing polyester?" she tried to cover up, but Bonnie just looked hurt and he looked shocked.
"You were really gonna pull it from my neck. What the hell is wrong with you?" Bonnie asked, before walking off.
"Bonnie…" James tried whilst Caroline growled. He chucked a quick text to his mother telling him where he was and he followed her out the door and onto the street. "Hey, Bonnie!" he called and she stopped. "What just happened?" he asked and she gave him a brief explanation of what that crystal was and where she got it. "And who is Damon?"
"The asshole brother of Stefan" she said and he sighed, processing all of the information.
"Right, I really do not think I will be able to handle drama on top of a headache when I go back in there so we will think about it tomorrow. Why don't you come back inside with me, we'll sit down, have a couple of drinks, talk a little bit and just have a good time while we can, okay?" he asked with a small smile.
"Alright" she said and his smile turned into a grin.
"Splendid"
It was disconcerting to say the least when the whole of the Sheriff's department showed up at the grill and was not permitting anyone to leave, however, they merely ate their meal. They didn't have any cause to leave whatsoever and Violet would likely find out about it from the Council when they had their next meeting.
"Has the Council said anything odd recently?" James asked curiously.
"Not really, just the usual stuff that can be expected. Planning for events, making sure everything goes off without a hitch, your standard small town government meeting"
"What about the attacks?" Bonnie asked.
"They said that they were still investigating it all and would likely tell us about their findings in the next meeting but until then, they were either tragic accidents or just missing person's reports. It is a little disconcerting however" she noted.
"Reckon this little lockdown of theirs might have something to do with it?" her son asked.
"It might…"
Dear Diary
According to my mother, the meeting was about the very real possibility that vampires have returned to Mystic Falls. One was killed outside the grill, revealed to be the friend that was with Stefan and the one who killed her was none other than his brother. Needless to say, the Council has begun advising them to start preparing for the eventuality that they would have to defend themselves from then and they're even beginning to regrow vervain for use. This isn't actually much of a surprise, although I am indeed very suspicious of Damon Salvatore and his motives. After all he and Stefan are brothers, so why would he risk himself and his brother in such a way. What's more, I truly believe that it is he who is causing all of the attacks around the town. I just don't have any concrete proof of such a thing…
