Schooled
You ever get that feeling that your room has been invaded? That someone went in while you were away but you can't prove it? I've been getting that feeling since I woke up from my cat nap after our first mission. I really hate that feeling.
But I really shouldn't be thinking about that now. We're having our first training session with Canary, and she just challenged Superboy to prove he always made the terms of battle with his strength, by beating me in a fight. Why, Canary? Why?
Not that I'm really concerned. I just don't know why no one asked me.
As soon as she told him to beat me, I had subtly made braces around every ones feet, minus Supeys and mine. Ready for the volatile clone to try and punch me. As soon as he started rushing at me, I pulled a Kilowag. The only thing that kept him from flying into my construct was a green chain around his wrist. Soon, he dropped to the floor as all of the constructs disappeared.
"What was that?"
Large green writing appeared for everyone to read. 'Gravitational pull of your average star. Make's flying through space a bitch. The bigger you are, the faster you burn.'
He tried to come at me again, only for braces around his ankles to stop him, and to have javelins thrown at him. He was soon back on the floor. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the others, including Martian Manhunter watching me wide eyed.
More green writing appeared. 'Those were the first two lessons I went through on day one of Lantern Training. Well with a slight difference on the second one. There were giant rocks trying to crush me, but I wasn't about to give him something to throw at me.'
The blond smiled at me. "Good thinking Green Lantern."
"THAT'S IT! I'm done!"
He should be happy that Kilowag isn't the one training him.
Canary stopped him with a hand on his shoulder. "Training is mandatory."
Should I tell her that Kilowag will be ticked that she's taking his job?
"Batman to the cave." Guess I can hold it off. "Five hours ago, a new menace attacked Green Arrow and Black Canary. The menace was capable of studying and duplicating the powers and abilities of its opponents. Arrow called in reinforcements, which proved disastrous as he gained more and more power with each new combatant."
"Whoa, one guy with the powers of the entire league?"
"In the end, it took eight Leaguers four hours to defeat and dismantle the android." Ok... robot offline. Why bother us about it?
"An android? Who made it? Tio Morrow?"
"Good guess Robin, but Red Tornado doesn't think so."
"The technology bears the signature of Professor Ivo." ...Never heard of him.
"Ivo? But Ivo's dead." That might explain why.
"So we all thought. Or hoped."
"To make certain the threat is permanently neutralized, we are sending two trucks carrying the androids parts to two different Star Labs facilities in Boston and New York for immediate evaluation. Every precaution is being taken. We'll have four additional decoy trucks to create confusion, incase Ivo, or anyone, tries to recover the parts. You will split into two undercover teams to protect the real truck." Oh. Ok. I'm guessing that means I can't fly.
"Yes! Road trip!"
"So now we get to take out your trash?" I think the super clone is very upset with the training thing. His tone is very unhappy.
"You had something better to do?"
"Coordinates received. On our way."
We all ran off to get changed into motorcycle clothes, while Canary held Supey back for a moment. I hope she's not volunteering me to train him more. I would hate to put him through more Kilowag training.
The Justice League made a very big crater trying to take the robot down. Seriously it's huge.
We all sat on our motorcycles, I don't even have a learners permit and I can drive one, in the bushes, watching as the two real transports were loaded with the parts. I just thought of something. If they have teams following the two real trucks, isn't that a dead give away.
But I won't question them. They are in charge.
Soon, I take off with Robin and Superboy, silently riding alongside them as Robin goes on about words with the prefix 'dis-'. What is it with that kid and prefixes and suffixes?
"Hey, GL, how'd you make a star right in the middle of base? Is your ring really that powerful?"
Using the computer he had built in to every ones bikes for me to communicate with, it wouldn't be good for someone to see small green words floating down the street, I sent a message to him. 'The ring makes thoughts reality. Its limits are only what you can imagine.'
"Really? So you could make a green robin fly around my head if you wanted?" His answer came in the form of a green robin flying around his head. "Ok then. I need to come up with challenges for you."
"Would you two focus?"
Silence. 'I think he's upset because of training.'
'I think you're right. Totally not feeling the aster."
That earned an eye roll. I tuned them out as Robin proceeded to council Superboy over the message system. Probably something about me. Maybe Saint Walker can give him anger management tips like he did for Razer... story for another time.
'Supey is angry because he thinks you're trying to humiliate him.'
'Oh, please. I went through that and more during training on Oa. Much more. It could have been worse.'
Then out of nowhere little robotic monkeys start attacking the truck. Ok then. Didn't expect that.
"Do you think the other truck is under attack.
"Probably."
"Superboy, Robin, Green Lantern, our truck is under attack." Aqualads voice filtered into my ear through the commlink. Le me guess. Monkeys.
"Yeah, we figured."
"I hate monkeys." Oh no. This won't end well.
"Robot monkeys! Ha! Totally Ivos style!" He pressed a button on his little screen, making the motorcycle change into battle mode. Not that it mattered, because Superboy ditched his, making it crash into Robins and mine. Jumping up, I let my outfit shift into my Lantern outfit, and flew after the truck. I was about to make a flying serpent to pick the truck up when four monkeys threw the angry dude into me, knocking us both down.
He had scorch marks around his eyes, but when I tried to help him, he pushed me away and took off in the direction of the truck. He's really going to get himself killed. Maybe I should kidnap him and take him to Kilowag.
When I finally caught up with them the truck was a wreck, Robin was at the side of the street, and Superboy was taking off again. "Superboy!"
Well, we're just a fine working team aren't we. He didn't have these problems when we were on the island with the drug people. And he ditched his comm. And he's out of M'ganns telepathic range. Great. Just great.
'He probably doesn't want to work with us because of me.'
"Guys, GL thinks he ditched us because of her."
"Green Lantern, just because you used those unorthodox training methods earlier, does not give him the right to go off on his own."
"Yeah babe. Would you do the same thing if that Sinestro dude was harsh in training?" ...wait. How does he know about Sinestro?
I gave Robin a look, and he saw my question and suspicion in my gaze. "Uh, KF. Who's Sinestro?"
"The red dude we all saw on GLs alien computer when we went into her roo... oh crud."
I knew someone had gone into my room! And it was my entire team.
"Way to go, Kid Mouth! Now my other partner ditched me!"
I took my comm out of my ear before Aqualad could say anything to me, stuffing it in a hidden pocket on my uniform. I can't believe them! I trusted them and they invade my space. This is why I've never been much of a team player. I can't trust any of them.
It's been ten minutes! Why do I want to go find them. And what's the weird feeling in my chest? I don't know what it is, but I'm not going back.
Twenty minutes. Have to stay strong. I wonder how they're doing on tracking the parts.
Ok, this is ridiculous. It's only been thirty minutes and I'm going to look for them. I just feel bad about ditching them like that and not letting them explain why they went into my room. I'm getting soft. Kilowag would be laughing at me if he saw me right now. Pulling the commlink back out, I made a small noise to let them know I'm back on the line.
"Green Lantern is that you?"
"Mhm."
"Good. The robots are going to Gotham City. Meet the others there, M'gann and I will get there as fast as we can."
Making a sound of acknowledgment I took off, getting to the city in record time. When I got there I saw a blond girl in a green outfit shooting an arrow into the building the others were in. When she saw me, she froze, until I nodded. She smiled and nodded back, before she took off.
Bursting into the large gym, I instantly made a large construct of a dragon around me. Pinning the android down with a claw, I watched as Superboy went ballistic on a dude in the bleachers. The man screamed, yelling something to the robot, which promptly phased through my construct and attacked the mini kryptonian. It went on like that until Superboy managed to make the things head explode. Who would have thought it would have been SB to figure out how to create the terms of battle.
The robot was quickly disassembled and I took off before anyone could say a word to me. I'm still angry with them.
During the team briefing I sat on a construct platform in the corner, tuning the others out. The only part of the conversation I was aware of is when they were explaining to the League members why they went into my room.
"We're worried about her. She was fine before she went on that mission. She was talking about everything with us. We wanted to know what had happened."
"M'gann and Robin found a file on another Green Lantern she had pulled up on her computer. A red dude named Sinestro. He's the one who went on the mission with her. According to the file, he was exposed to something years ago that makes him a danger to those around him. We do not know for sure if he is the reason she stopped speaking, but it is likely." The rest of the conversation was lost on me.
Just when Batman called me over, my ring started beeping frantically. Message from the Guardians. Great.
I was aware of the eyes of my team and the Leaguers on me as a message only I understood was given.
*The yellow ring was stolen. An investigation is underway. Do not raise alarm with your Earth heroes. We will contact you if you are needed.*
Oh crap. Oh shit. Holy shit. Holy cheese. This is bad. Horrible. The apocalypse is upon us.
... Ok not really. It's one yellow ring against three thousand six hundred and three green rings. And maybe a few frontier rings if they ever actually come to Oa. Wait... make that three thousand six hundred and two green rings. Only Green Lanterns are allowed on Oa so a Green Lantern would be the one who stole the yellow ring.
... I think it was Sinestro. ...The Guardians won't believe me.
"Green Lantern, are you ok?" Looking up, I see several concerned eyes focused on me. Giving a small smile, I give a thumbs up before leaving. They're never going to stop until I tell them everything now.
As if them going through my room wasn't enough they're going to annoy me to no end.
