Chapter 3: Krieg and Maya.

Be Maya.

You are Maya, a powerful and unstoppable Siren warrior. Or at least you thought you were, until your train exploded and you were thrown from your cart. Now you are only semi-conscious and hardly aware of your surroundings. All you can tell is that you are being dragged through the snow by an unseen captor.

Your vision fades to black and back again several times. You find it harder and harder to stay awake. You can't even feel the cold of the tundra at this point. You can see your hands, and your tattoos are starting to fade. Even though your powers give you amazing regenerative abilities, you don't think you can make it. You're going to die, you think.

You can hear now, but you wish you couldn't. You identify two voices now, both men. Their conversation consisted of things too rude to think out loud. Your strength is coming back now, and you can make a decent fist. But you are in no way prepared to fight these two, especially because they took your guns. Patience, Maya, be patient.

But that is what they taught you at the Abby, and you were never one to listen. You thrust your arms forward, freeing yourself. The two men were caught off-guard, and you were able to snag your SMG. But even this light weight weapon is too heavy in your injured state. You scorn yourself for not having thought to bring a shield.

Scorn, that is it! You remember your newest, and favorite, Siren power. You ball your hand into a fist, and then throw it forward, extending your fingers. Your hand releases a ball of pure slag energy, which explodes and covers your assailants. You smirk, but what now? Spray and pray? You don't have nearly enough ammo for that.

Before you get the chance to make a decision, a buzz axe does it for you.

Be Krieg.

You are Krieg, and you refuse to let these savages get their hands on the pretty Siren. Your true voice is different than the one that leaves your mouth. Your body has a mind of its own, which is to say, a mind different than yours, if that makes any sense. Your axe used to help good people do good things. Now it is used to punish the evil. And one day, it will punish you for your sins. But that day is not today.

You were on the side of the train when it exploded, so you were able avoid the explosion, unlike your friend. You are able to convince your body that this woman is your ally, and get it to protect her. These men deserve death, you tell him. He listens, and gleefully slices them open. The slag on their skin lets your axe cut through them like butter, and soon instead of two whole men, there were four pieces. A wicked grin spreads under your body's mask.

You shoulder your axe and approach the Siren, who welcomes you with open arms. And by welcomes you, you mean she passes out. And by with open arms, you mean on top of you from blood loss. Your body catches her with ease. You carry her along, all the while doing your best to keep your body silent. But it seems to do it on its own, wanting not to wake her just as much as you do.

Eventually though, you need to rest. Carrying a whole other person, even this petite Siren, is more work when you haven't eaten their skin. You hate the taste of flesh, but your body can't get enough of it, and eats it almost exclusively. You hope to whatever deity is out there (and would still be willing to listen to you) that this gorgeous woman never sees you eat. Your manners are atrocious.

When you seemingly can't walk anymore, you set Maya down carefully, and rest. Your legs feel like they are on fire, but they would feel better if they actually were on fire. Once you find the energy to walk again, you pull over some spare train parts and build a make-shift shelter for the two of you.

You let yourself drift to rest, and your dreams are filled with the horror of your own mind.

Be Maya.

You're suddenly Maya again, and you are thrown even more suddenly into consciousness. You are in a place you do not recognize with a man you only recently came to know. But at least your wounds have closed and you have your strength back. Krieg looks like he is asleep, so leaving should be easy. However, he tends to follow you like a lost pup skag, except not trying to kill you. You think.

With a groan, you stand. Stretching your arms never felt so good. You look down at the sleeping psychopath and smile. For some odd reason, you get the feeling that there is more to him than meets the eye. But now you need to make sure you are still in working order. Your legs and arms feel fine, but you have been deceived before. You hold up your weapon, feeling its weight in your hands gives you some degree of comfort.

You can finally feel the cold of the tundra, although that is not necessarily a good thing. You breathe deeply and try to lift the rock with your powers. It easily flies into the air and is crushed under the intense force of your void. The glow of your tattoos and the fire of your phase lock warm you to the core. Around you lay nothingness, only the snow of the frozen north.

The psycho that saved you slumbers loudly mere meters away. He speaks and stirs. After he sits up he stares directly at you for what seems like an hour. Your eyes never leave his. Something about them seems odd. Different from any other.

"Come on, we need to go," you say.

"Krieg," he mumbles.

"What was that?"

"Name… Krieg," he seems to have trouble speaking.

"Well, Krieg, thank you for saving me." You smile at him, and although you cannot see his face, you feel like he is trying to smile also. He shouts something about nipple salads. You check your echo map and walk north, to a small town of Liar's Berg. Krieg follows you faithfully.

After quite a distance, you and the psycho reach the Berg, and meet four new people, all armed to the teeth. Krieg gets ready to chop them to bits, but you hold him back with a warm hand on his chest, but keep your smg out.
