Chapter 16: Romance Comes In Ice Cream

It had been the best few days of her life so far Lori thought as she watched Sesshomaru sleep peacefully.

The trio of couples were staying at the cabin the parents had left them and my was it beautiful. Even at 2 am.

She could hear the easy breathing of her two closest friends and light snores coming from the demons that were protecting them. She smiled as Becca said 'that's my couch!' in her sleep before she became quiet again.

Lori though was having trouble sleeping. normally she would roll out of bed and go somewhere away from the beds to be alone. But since Sesshomaru's arms, which tightened around her waist, were around her all she could do was sigh softy and look around. Which honestly was limited. Sesshomaru's shoulders were broad and her eyes could barely see over them. So she contented herself to watching his face as he slept.

His face was relaxed now that he almost looked like a human male. She'd never tell him that though. He nuzzled the pillow a bit more and the action made his silver hair fall in front of his face. Lori tucked the strand behind his pointed ears. She couldn't help but to brush her thumb over his demon stripes. They weren't what she excepted at all. From the show she thought the were deep marks that stayed that color but he had explained that they were there since birth. Which after thinking about it and seeing a younger Sesshomaru on a movie she loved she realized he was speaking the truth.

As she caressed his cheek, his face moved into her hand, making her cup his face more. She held her breath as his eyes opened slowly to look at her. She was always paralyzed by those amber eyes. She smiled softly at him as he woke up more.

"Lori?" His gruffness made her grin.

"Yeah I'm here." It was their thing. Ever since he had transferred into his humanoid form, this was their early morning banter. It happened after she had left the bed one morning for a stroll in the wee hours of dawn. He had looked for her, worried about her. When he found her coming back into the Glade, he embraced her.

"Lori?" He had said as he hugged her.

She rubbed his back, "Yeah I'm here."

She had told him shed never wander that far again to make him worry. So now when she was able to get out of his warm embrace she would get a book and read next to him until he had awoken or one of the others did.

His eyes blinked to adjust to the minimal light, "Why are you up?"

She looked down at his chest "I couldn't sleep."

"A nightmare" he whispered to her.

"No just couldn't get to sleep."

He pulled her closer which she thought was impossible, "Do you want me to stay up with you?"

She shook her head "No. you need your rest more than I."

He gave her a grin full of canines, it took her breath away when he smiled for her.

"Do you want to switch sides?"

She nodded and with a delicate roll, she was on the end of the bed. she giggled at how easy he could move her.

With the new position and her head nuzzling Sesshomaru's chest, Lori's eyes became heavy.

"Tired again huh" he asked as he kissed the top of her head.

"Yeah" she said as she felt herself slip into dream land.

Sesshomaru though didn't sleep anymore after that, his dreams becoming nightmares.

Funnily enough the girls were the ones to wake up first.

Stretching like a cat Lori accidentally fell out of Sesshomaru's arms and off the bed.

Becca, who was on the other side of the bed, started cackling which woke Tara up.

Tara sat up, saw what Becca was laughing so hard at, and also started giggling.

"You okay there chica?" she asked, a sleepy grin on her face.

Lori's hand waved at them from the floor.

"I'm fine! I think I'll just go back to sleep right here" they heard her mumble and they laughed.

Becca slid out from under the covers and off the bed, padding her way barefooted to Lori hauling her up again. Both wobbled to the kitchen.

"Jesus that hurt" Lori said rubbing her head.

"Well dummy if you didn't sleep at the end of the bed, you wouldn't fall off!" Becca exclaimed as she grinned happily at her friend.

Just then they heard Tara scream, "BECCA! GET YOUR MUTT OF THIS BED BEFORE I NUETER HIM!"

Just then Koga came running in. He started to make a bee line for his girlfriend, but the hanging pots and pans made him stop.

his eyes widened at the shining silver and he exclaimed, "Hey a pot." Forgetting his strength he thought only to touch the pot but he instead knocked all of the pots and pans onto the floor and one hitting his head.

"OW!" he exclaimed.

As he held his hurting head, Tara came in.

He mumbled, "Pots totally have something against me."

All three girls crossed their arms.

"Uh huh. So randomly walking up to the pot wrack and saying 'Hey a pot' and causing them to fall makes them against you" Becca asked.

"Yep" Koga said, a grin spreading across his face.

Tara shoved an ice cream tub and giant spoon into his stomach, "Eat this and stay out of trouble."

Do you think that's a good idea? It IS sugar" Lori asked nervously.

"I know, but we'll have to risk it. It's that or listening to him talk, and there's nothing else here until we get groceries."

"They had ice cream but not simple things like bread?"

"Stupid isn't it?"

"Heeeeyyyy...This stuff is GOOD" Koga excitedly cried as he jumped up holding the ice cream tub and spoon up like the Statue of Liberty.

"Oh dear what have I done?" Tara muttered as she buried her face in her hands.

"Probably assured the destruction of humanity" Sesshomaru smoothly said as he walked into the kitchen.

Lori's eyes widened as he strode over to her confidently. Wrapping one arm around her waist, he pulled her into a deep kiss in front of everyone.

"Good morning" he said with a smirk to her.

"Um...Good morning" Lori said breathlessly, still reeling from the unexpected kiss.

Becca and Tara pouted.

"Figures. Your guy is worshiping ice cream and mine is a sleepy grouch" Tara sighed.

Becca patted her back sadly, "I know hun. Maybe someday we'll get lucky."

"Hey!" Koga pouted, "I can be romantic like Fluffy over there!" He pointed to Sesshomaru who now was holding one of Lori's hands.

"Oh yeah? Prove it!" Becca said as she lifted her head in a challenge.

Koga cleared his throat and got down on one knee in front of her.

Tara and Lori gasped, both of their eyes starting to tear up for their friend as Becca went speechless.

"Becca, I love you, and you are the only person I would ask this to" he asked sincerely as he held her hand.

Becca's eyes widened even more.

"Would you like some of my ice cream?" he asked, holding up the tub to her, a huge grin spreading across his face.

Tara and Lori burst into laughter, leaning on each other for support as they cackled.

Becca smacked him upside the head with a cry, "You big jerk!"

"I was being romantic" he said as he looked up at her with a dumbfounded look.

"Unlike men Koga, the way to a girls heart is not through her stomach" Tara said as she hopped up to sit on the counter.

"Could have told me that earlier you know" he said.

As Tara giggled with a shrug, Sesshomaru grabbed Koga by the ear and pulled him over to him, oblivious to Koga's "owwowowowowowowowowoowowowows".

He whispered "Baka do something nice for her so she'll forgive you!"

Koga's eyes brightened and he nodded excitedly.

Then he leaned up and whispered to Sesshomaru "Can ice cream be involved?"

The silver haired demon nodded solemnly.

"Woohoo!" Koga cried taking another mouthful of ice cream so the cheer was hilariously muffled.

Everyone got quiet as a fully dressed Inuyasha walked into the kitchen.

Tara looked at him from the counter and smiled brightly "Hi!"

He walked over to her and whispered in her ear. Tara squealed and jumped down, running back to the bedroom.

"Okay enough whispering! What did you say to her?" Becca demanded exasperated.

Inuyasha grinned mischievously "Wouldn't you like to know?"

"Ugh men!" Becca cried throwing her hands in the air, looking at Lori who just smiled back at her.

A beaming tara rushed back into the room full dressed, grabbed Inuyasha's hand and dragged him from the kitchen, a grin spreading across his face.

He gave a wink to his brother and the wolf demon before he and Tara disappeared as she called out, "We're going shopping!"

The cabin was silent for a minute.

"Hmm..shopping...sounds like a good idea. Let's go Lori." Sesshomaru said also grabbing Lori's hand and pulling her out of the kitchen.

"Shopping? Really? Us? You mean it? Oh my gosh! Yay!" She stammered before she squealed happily.

The poor door was slammed again and all was quiet.

Koga turned and looked at Becca, "Wanna go?"

"Duh!" She answered.
