ISOBEL.

Leya threw her keys into the bowl as she shut the front door behind her. Stefan was back at the boarding house reuniting with Elena. Leya rubbed the back of her neck and sighed as she headed towards the stairs. She knew where Stefan was from the moment Elena came rushing out the door, he wanted to die where it all began. But she wouldn't let him, because Leya cared. And sometimes she cared too much, but this time it was worth it.

Just as her foot touched the first step someone knocked on the door. Leya turned around confused pausing for a moment. She didn't have the faintest idea as to who would be knocking on her door at this hour. Leya walked to the door and opened it warily.

"Hello, love."

Leya breathed in sharply and stared at the person in front of her. "Hey, Aunt Daisy."

Leya's eyebrows scrunched together confused, as she looked her aunt up and down. Her hair was still the same fiery red, her eyes were still the same pale blue but there was something off about Daisy, then again it could just be that it's been a while since the last time she saw her.

"Not gonna say anything?" Daisy asked, her smile shrinking slightly.

"Sorry, I spaced out." Leya replied softly. "What are you doing here?"

"Well, I do own the house -"

"No, I mean what are you doing here so late?" Leya rephrased.

Daisy hesitated before answering. "Leya, I've had time to think. I – I've been through a lot of things in the time I've been away, things you wouldn't want to know and I've had time to re-discover myself – Can we talk in the house? Please?"

Leya's eyes squinted together in suspicion as she caught sight of a bracelet Daisy had never worn before. Her bright green eyes flickered back up to meet Daisy's own pale blue, with a slight tilt of her head Leya took a step to the side gesturing for Daisy to come in but not saying the words. Leya watched as Daisy smiled nervously and eyed the door frame separating them.

"Oh my God." Leya muttered shaking her head in disbelief making her aunt look at her. "You're one of them, aren't you?"

"Leya, please." Daisy's voice shook as her eyes widened considerably. She didn't think Leya would be able to catch on that fast then again she should've known better. "I didn't even know they existed, she just came out of nowhere and then…"

"Have you killed anyone?" Leya questioned. Might as well get the worst over with right? Like ripping a bandage off even though it seems to hurt more than peeling it off slowly.

"No." Daisy replied confident. "I swear on the graves of your mother and father I've haven't killed anyone since becoming a… a…"

"Vampire." Leya supplied.

"Yes, that."

"You're not really any different are you?" Leya asked rhetorically but Daisy answered anyway.

"Of course not, sweetie. If anything, everything about me has become heightened. I'm still me, I promise."

Leya shook her head softly looking at her aunt once more she sighed. She hated what happened to her, Leya couldn't believe it was only a few months since she left and she was already turned into a vampire. But regardless she was still her aunt, still her mother's most favorite sibling.

"Come in." Leya invited without regret.

Leya sighed tiredly as she walked down the stairs the next morning last night was long and dreary, Daisy had explained vaguely that she was turned in Florida by a woman named Isobel. The only Isobel Leya could think of was Elena's mother but it couldn't have been, she was sure there were plenty of Isobel's out in the world. But there could be only one Isobel turned by Damon Salvatore. Things just kept getting more and more complicated.

"What's this?" Leya asked as she walked into the kitchen spotting Daisy cooking (more like burning) food, two large cups of freshly brewed tea on the counter.

"Consider it an apology." Daisy said turning around with a spatula in hand. "I shouldn't have left you like that, if anything it got me into more trouble than I could handle."

"Apology accepted." Leya mumbled so quietly one would have to strain to hear it but with Daisy's newly enhanced senses she heard it loud and clear.

"Thank you." Daisy breathed happily. "Oh, before I forget. Here are the deeds to the house, they're in your name now so all you have to do is sign them. I know that since you're the only living person here it falls to you but I'd feel better knowing you're well protected."

"Oh, sure, thanks I guess." Leya said taking the papers from Daisy but placing them back onto the counter next to the tea. "You don't have to worry about me, Daisy I can protect myself. Besides, I placed wards on the house to make sure that nobody with ill intent can enter, supernatural or human."

"You did? Well, still, make sure you sign them." Daisy said smiling nervously.

"I'm gonna go, I have to help plan for the Miss Mystic Float it's sort of a school requirement." Leya said as she slung her bag onto her shoulder and picked up one of the cups of tea.

"You're not going to eat?" Daisy called to her retreating back.

"Uh, maybe later." Leya replied over her shoulder as she walked out of the house the smell of burning food replaced by fresh clean air.

"Well, well, well look who's here early." Elena teased happily as she walked up to Leya, Stefan by her side. They were back together and happier than ever now that she knew the whole story. "I thought you hated these kinds of things."

"I do. But I had to get away from Daisy's terrible cooking somehow." Leya replied smiling at her two friends as they walked together to the cafeteria.

"Your aunt's back?" Elena asked surprised. It felt like it's been forever since Elena saw the older woman, her flower shop was still open but Elena didn't have a clue as to who kept it up and running. She doubted Leya would have the time to, with school and supernatural problems happening here and there.

"Yeah, and she isn't exactly the same anymore either."

"What do mean?" Elena asked confused.

Stefan slowed to a stop forcing the other two girls to stop as well. His eyebrows furrowed as he took in Leya's appearance. She was tired that was given, the bags under her eyes looked more prominent than they ever had before, her hair was messed and she looked pale in the florescent lights. Stefan looked into her eyes which showed hardship years beyond her age and after a second she averted her eyes as if she knew he was trying to dig whatever she kept to herself out of her.

"Nothing. It's just a little complicated." Leya replied turning her eyes to the floor. A little complicated was an understatement.

"Hey, Mr. Saltzman." Elena said breaking the small silence that had washed over them. Leya looked up as the older man came closer, she tensed and became more alert as she caught sight of the urgency and mild panic in his eyes.

"You three, come with me. We need to talk."

"Damon, thanks for coming." Alaric said as he pushed up off the table. Everything was so crazy right now, he could hardly think straight.

"Sorry I'm late. My dog ate my uh… never mind."

Damon faltered in his step as he realized he just walked into something a little more serious than he expected. He raised an eyebrow as he looked at everyone and noticed they practically had the same look etched into their faces.

"What's with all the furrowed brows?"

"I saw Isobel last night." Alaric spoke slightly pained, wincing at the memory of his former wife threatening him. That wasn't the woman he knew, that wasn't the woman he married, one look into her eyes and he knew that the woman he loved was long gone.

"Isobel's here? In town?" Damon asked shocked eyebrows raised, and at Alaric confirming nod Damon turned to Elena and all she could do was stare at the floor.

Without hesitation Damon went straight into it asking Alaric questions. "Did you ask her about Uncle John? Are they working together?"

"No."

"No, they're not?" Damon questioned slightly confused at Alaric's one worded answer.

"No I didn't ask." Alaric clarified.

"What about the invention?"

"Didn't ask."

"Did she know about the tomb vampires?"

"I don't know."

"Did words completely escape you?" Damon stressed frustrated that Alaric didn't ask any of the questions they desperately needed answers to.

"No, I was a little too distracted by my dead vampire wife to ask any questions." Alaric snapped back.

Damon clenched his jaw and turned to Elena. "What did she want?"

"She wants to see me, Damon."

Damon sighed and lowered his gaze to the floor. He felt bad for Elena, for what she was going through.

"Alaric is supposed to arrange a meeting. We don't know why or what she wants." Stefan said speaking up.

Damon ignored Stefan and continued to stare at Elena. "You don't have to see her if you don't want to." Damon said gently.

Stefan's eyebrows furrowed and Leya's expression changed into one of mild shock as they both looked between Damon and Elena confused at the sudden change in the air.

"I don't really have a choice." Elena replied strained and uncomfortable at the thought of what her birth mother would do if she didn't show.

"She's threatened to go on a killing spree." Leya said looking at Damon, her eyes squinting slightly as he ignored her and continued to stare at Elena.

"Oh, I take it that's not okay with you guys?" Damon asked rhetorically his tone sarcastic.

"I want to do it. I want to meet her. If I don't, I know I'll regret it." Elena said taking a deep breath shaking slightly at the mere thought.

Leya sighed softly and shifted her weight as her nimble fingers stroked a petal from a rose. It was soft and smooth like velvet; the petals were arranged in perfect symmetry, the blood red color of the rose contrasted starkly against her pale white hand. Usually the thorns were cut off before they were put on display but the one Leya held had all its vicious thorns intact.

Roses which happened to be almost every girls favorite flower was also one of Leya's favorites among many. If she was asked for a specific color she would reply with red. Red roses meant many things and according to the little card placed in the row of dozens upon dozens of red roses in her aunt's shop, red roses meant they were given to those who you want to show love and passion, people who you have great respect for, and those who have shown great courage.

Leya supposes a red rose suited her. She closed her eyes lightly and lifted the single rose to her nose and smelled it. It was light and airy yet very sweet and enchanting.

"Hello, Isobel." Leya greeted as she lowered the rose without turning around.

"You've been expecting me." Isobel said trying to hide her surprise as she moved over to Leya's side.

"Of course. I had no doubt that the one who turned my aunt would confront me sooner or later."

"So she told you." Isobel said raising an eyebrow.

Leya finally turned her head and acknowledged Isobel. "Not a lot, most of it was guess work. You see, Isobel I'm not some naive little girl that I know you think I am. My aunt may have told you a lot of things before you turned her but she doesn't know everything."

"And what exactly is everything?" Isobel asked curious.

Leya chuckled lightly as she walked around her aunt's shop to the cashier Isobel following her every step. "Now that, that is a secret I keep close to my heart."

"Well you better be careful or that pretty little heart of yours might just be in front of your eyes and not in your chest."

Leya brushed off the threat knowing fully well she could handle herself and asked Isobel the question she was craving an answer for. "How do you know about me? You couldn't have known to find out about me if someone had told you something first, before you sought out my aunt."

"You're a clever little thing aren't you?" Isobel asked rhetorically smirking slightly but complied and gave her the answer she wanted. "Katherine told me about you, it was the bare minimum almost nothing but it was enough to capture my attention and hold it. You know I never let anything go until I find out all the answers."

"And John?"

"Ha, John is just a pawn. I told him the broad picture, just that you were a witch nothing more. I never specified which kind of witch either."

Leya let out the tiniest breath of relief but her expression never changed. "Why did you turn my aunt?"

"I was bored." Was Isobel's short reply as she touched one of the daffodils nearby.

"You were bored?" Leya questioned through clenched teeth and fisted hands, for a moment Leya was glad she wasn't holding the prickly rose anymore.

"Well I could've killed her too." Isobel smirked at Leya seeing her eyes light up with fury. "Look, I'm just gonna get straight to the point here. I already talked to Elena but a small part of me doubts she can do what I asked so you're gonna help. I need the invention and you're going to help Elena get it."

"And what makes you think I'll do that?"

"Because, if you don't you'll be down one more family member."

Leya laughed insincerely and took a step closer to Isobel as she twirled the rose in her hand. "I will not help you, Isobel. You don't know what I'm capable of so I suggest you keep your threats to yourself. And if you ever go anywhere close to my aunt you'll regret it."

Leya was so close to Isobel she could feel Isobel's short breaths brush up against her neck. Isobel so was so petit compared to Leya and she could swear that she saw just a flicker of fear flash through Isobel's usually emotionless cold blue eyes.

"Here, take this rose." Leya offered handing it to her. Isobel cautiously grabbed hold of it careful to mind the thorns. "It would be a shame if you left the store without anything."

Leya smiled sweetly a particular glint only few people have seen before entered her eyes as she tugged her hand down letting go of the rose. Isobel let out a small sharp gasp as the thorns pierces her skin making drops of blood pool in her hand. Isobel wrenched the rose out of her hand before the skin tried to heal itself around the thorns.

Leya gave her one last smile as she brushed passed her and out the door. Isobel sighed and clenched her jaw she rubbed her bloodied hand on her dark jacket as she turned to leave the shop. She had indeed underestimated the young witch greatly, and Isobel was sure to keep and even closer eye on her.

"So, Elena told me your aunt's back?" Bonnie said but it came out as more of a question as the two girls leafed through the Bennett grimoire in one of the biology labs at school. It was the next day and the beginning of the building of floats for the Founders Day parade.

"Yeah, she is." Leya confirmed turning to Bonnie. "So I suspect since you know this from Elena your little row is over."

"Yeah, we patched things up last night… but I don't know I still feel a little guilty."

"Why?" Leya questioned pausing to look at the girl opposite her.

"I forgive Elena, I mean it was never her fault anyway but I still blame Damon and Stefan. I can't help it, Leya it's just whenever I see them I think of how my Grams died and she shouldn't have died that way."

"Bonnie we talked about this. It wasn't entirely their fault some of it was mine -"

"Still." Bonnie interrupted tone having a finality sense to it. "Everything that's happened started with Damon and Stefan."

Leya stared into Bonnie's eyes and the anger reflected through them was one she was all too familiar with. Revenge was a dangerous road; it was a path she tried to go down on in her fifth year after Sirius was killed by Bellatrix. The result was not what she wanted and in the end she ended up getting more hurt.

"Please don't do anything stupid, Bonnie." Leya whispered lowly to the younger witch as she heard footsteps get closer to the classroom,

"There you guys are." Elena greeted as she walked in slightly out of breath. "I swear we have way too many biology labs in this school."

"Hey!" Bonnie greeted back brushing Leya's advice off and ignoring her worried eyes. What Bonnie did with her magic was her own business. "Thanks for meeting us; we wanted you to see this."

"Is that Emily's spell book?" Elena asked as she walked closer.

Bonnie nodded her head and replied. "I've been going through it since Grams died. Check this out."

Elena looked down to the book and in it was words she didn't understand in a language she was sure didn't exist in the human world. But what she did recognize were familiar drawings of a certain family heirloom passed down from father to son.

"That's the vampire compass." Elena stated in disbelief.

"According to Emily, Johnathan Gilbert never actually succeeded in inventing anything." Leya said as she looked down at the ancient grimoire. "Emily had secretly spelled them all with magic making him believe that it was his ingeniousness that made them work."

"The compass, the rings…" Bonnie finished her voice trailing off before she hesitantly continued. "Including the mystery device you told me about."

"Yeah, that- that's it." Elena said amazed as Bonnie flipped the pages to the device. "Well… part of it Damon only has the one piece."

"Emily pledged her loyalty to Katherine. But she couldn't stand by and watch innocent people get killed. This was the only way she could think of to help. To let Johnathan Gilbert believe that he'd actually invented these devices." Bonnie explained as Elena lightly drifted her hand over the page.

"Does it say what it does?"

Bonnie leaned closer to the book and started to read as if it were written in English. Her fingertips brushed the words slightly and she leaned back in shock turning to Elena confused.

"Are you sure this is what Isobel wants?" Bonnie asked.

"Yeah, I'm sure. Why?"

"This is a weapon." Bonnie said looking Elena directly in the eyes. "Against vampires."

"Sorry I'm late I had a couple of errands to run." Leya said as she hopped into Bonnie's car.

"Like what? You kinda pulled a disappearing act on us just when Isobel struck." Bonnie asked pulling the car away from the curb as she started to head towards the Salvatore boarding house.

"Uh, Daisy wanted me to sign the deeds to the house so I did but it was this whole long process and definitely something I don't want to go through again."

"She gave you the house?" Bonnie questioned eyes wide turning to Leya for a second before focusing back on the road. "Why?"

"I don't know." Leya lied. "I doubt anyone could guess what goes on inside her head anymore."

"So listen, Elena was thinking that we should give the device to Isobel -"

"Wait, what?" Leya interrupted. "Is she insane? I mean I know her brother's life is kind of on the line but who knows what Isobel would do with it."

"You didn't let me finish." Bonnie reprimanded but she couldn't do it without a smile despite how serious the conversation was Leya was just too cute to get angry at. "We'll give her the device… but we'll give it to her after I've removed the original spell rendering it completely useless."

"And you're sure that you can do it and it's going to work?"

Bonnie nodded her head confidently, but she did not look Leya in the eyes. She had already made up her mind.

"What about Damon? I doubt he's just going to hand it over with a smile."

"I have another plan for that." Bonnie replied a cheeky smile on her face.

"Absolutely not." Damon raved as the four of them stood before him in the living room of the boarding house.

"Just hear me out." Elena pleaded walking closer to Damon.

Elena and Stefan had just finished retelling Damon how Jeremy got kidnapped and their plan to remove the original spell before handing it over to Isobel in exchange for Jeremy.

"I'm not gonna give the device to Isobel so she could give it to John who is in turn going to use it to kill me. And I like being a living dead person." Damon explained.

"But it'll be useless." Elena explained gesturing to Bonnie. "Bonnie can take its power away."

"I don't trust her." Damon said keeping his eyes on Elena not even acknowledging Bonnie.

"I can remove the original spell." Bonnie spoke to Elena as she leaned against a table.

Elena turned to Damon convinced. "John and Isobel will never know."

"No." Damon shot down shaking his head. "I'll get Jeremy my own way."

Leya scoffed laughing. "Really? How are you going to do that, Damon? Because most of your plans seem to end up with a lot more people dead than alive."

"She's right, Damon." Stefan spoke up. "Isobel's a vampire and Jeremy could be dead the second you walk in the door."

Damon clenched his jaw, his eyebrow twitching slightly knowing they were right. He turned to Bonnie and eyed her up and down; he didn't trust her one bit.

"Why don't you remove the spell?" Damon said turning to Leya.

Stefan, Elena and Bonnie all turned to her too their expressions mirroring each other as they realized they didn't even consider Leya an option to help in removing the spell. And for a second Bonnie's heart missed a beat.

"I sure as hell trust you a lot more than I do judgy over there." Damon said his eyes flickering to Bonnie for a moment. "What do you say? Can you do it?"

"No, I can't." Leya replied her face expressionless but she showed Damon she was sorry she couldn't through her eyes.

"What do you mean? Why can't you?" Stefan asked from his spot.

"Yeah, I thought you were Wonder Witch." Damon spoke sarcastically. "The one who could do anything."

"The spell was created and performed by Emily Bennett. Other than the fact that I don't want to tap into magic that isn't my own but a spell like this? It can only be removed by one of her descendants."

Elena turned to Damon. "I guess Bonnie is our only option."

Bonnie released a breath of relief, her nerves calming as she slowly gathered that her plan was not thwarted.

"Damn." Damon muttered to himself as he reluctantly turned to the other witch in the room. "Are you even up for this? I mean no offense, you're no Emily Bennett. Emily knew what she was doing."

"I've been practicing."

"It's not piano lessons, honey." Damon retorted not believing her for a second.

Bonnie swiftly stood and strode over to Damon. "What's your favorite book?"

"What?" Damon asked confused at the complete change of subject.

"Name a book, any book."

Damon squinted his eyes in mock concentration; he already had a book in mind. It was one of his favorites. He also knew it wasn't a widely known book and no doubt the little witch in front of him knew nothing about this particular book. So Damon decided to play along.

"Name a book… How about Call of the Wild, Jack London?"

Bonnie turned around determined facing the book shelf. Within seconds a book flew off the shelf and headed straight for Damon's face. He caught it just before it hit him.

"Jack London." Damon read the tiniest bit impressed but it wasn't enough. "Great parlor trick."

"We're doing this, Damon." Elena said frustrated at the time they were wasting, who knows what could've happened to Jeremy during that time. "And we're doing it my way. Now give me the device. We're wasting time."

Damon still faced Elena but his eyes turned to Bonnie as he addressed her. "I don't trust you, I tried to kill you."

"You're right, you can't trust me." Bonnie teased knowing she had the upper hand.

"But you can trust me." Elena said walking closer to Damon with her hand out.

Damon looked between Elena and Stefan before reaching into his pocket and placing the device in Elena's hand but before he let go he gave her hand one last squeeze. Something Stefan and Leya didn't fail to miss.

"Thank you." Elena murmured as Damon brushed past her. Elena immediately turned to Bonnie and handed her the device.

"Is there anything you need?" Stefan asked.

"Candles. Three should do it." Bonnie replied as she walked over to the fireplace and placed the grimoire on the table turning to the right page she opened the device.

Stefan returned and placed three candles on the table directly in front of Bonnie. They lit up as soon as Bonnie touched them.

Stefan, Damon, Leya and Elena watched intensely as Bonnie removed a piece from the device and place her hands over it. Slowly the small part of the device started to float in the air rising as Bonnie's hands lifted higher and higher.

The candles in front of Bonnie lengthened to an unnatural height and the fire behind her grew and took life. The lights started to fade in and out then it all stopped as the device fell straight into Bonnie's hands.

"Done."

Elena walked to Bonnie and picked up the device from Bonnie's hand.

"Great. Now what?" Damon asked.

"Now, we give it to Isobel."

Isobel walked hurriedly into the house she was temporarily staying in and looked around. It was time to leave, she had gotten the device from Elena and all she had to do now was give it to John and he would carry out the rest of the plan. Katherine would be pleased.

"Take everything to the car we're leaving." Isobel told her compelled companions as she walked further into one of the darkened rooms the device clutched protectively in her hand.

"What a shame. I was hoping we could have a little chat."

Isobel turned around at the sound knowing instantly who it was. Who in Mystic Falls had an English accent other than a particular unpredictable witch? The lamp next to one of the plush chairs lit up and sitting on it was Leya Potter staring at her.

"What's with all the theatrics?" Isobel asked trying to cover up the fact that she was not only shocked by slightly scared she couldn't hear anyone inside before entering.

"I couldn't help myself." Leya replied with a childish smile. "It was just too tempting."

"If you're here to get the device back then I'll tell you now, you won't get it."

"Oh, I don't want it back." Leya said standing up. "I just needed to sort things out with you before you left."

"Oh? What kind of things?" Isobel asked amused.

"Well the obvious, you know about me and I can't have that." Leya replied folding her arms behind her back.

"And why's that?"

"Personal reasons."

"Personal reasons?" Isobel asked suspiciously squinting her eyes. "Hmm, I don't think so. I think you don't want me to know because you're running from someone."

Leya chuckled. "I'm not running. Far from it actually she can find me for all I care. I can protect myself-"

"Can you now?"

"Yes. I can." Leya said through a clenched jaw. "The reason I don't want you to know is because if you do happen to tell someone my friends wouldn't like it."

"Stefan, Elena and Damon wouldn't really car-"

"Not those friends." Leya interrupted. "I do have others you know, and they hate it when I get myself in trouble, granted trouble's been in Mystic Falls since I moved here but I decided to relieve them of stress and not tell them what I've been up to lately."

"And are these friends of yours like you?" Isobel asked the familiar feeling curiosity starting to eat at her.

"You won't remember long enough to find out." Leya breathed in deeply her wand slipping down the sleeve of her jacket and into her hand.

"I'm sorry, Isobel." Leya paused scrunching her eyebrows and biting her lip. "Actually, I'm not sorry. Don't worry it won't hurt."

Isobel's eyes widened as she took in Leya's words. Just as she was about to flee Leya's hand shot out like lightning speed and pointed her wand straight at Isobel's head.

"Obliviate."

Leya sighed as she walked into the house dropping her keys into the ornate bowl by the door.

"Hello, love." Daisy greeted warmly.

"Hey." Leya greeted back smiling as she crashing onto the couch in the living room.

"Are you alright? You look a little worn out."

"I'm fine." Leya said closing her eyes. "I just had to take care of Isobel before she left."

"Take care of her?" Daisy as slightly panicked as she placed the book she was holding down and stared at her niece laying across the sofa opposite her.

"Don't worry I didn't kill her if that's what you're thinking." Leya said amused her breathing starting to slow and her muscles relax. "I just removed a couple of specific memories is all. She's fine."

"Well at least you didn't kill her that's what counts." Daisy said lifting her book up to continue reading. "Katherine would seek revenge if that happened. Isobel told me Katherine had told her to find someone named Klaus, whoever the bloody hell that is."
