A/N: So I'll be skipping Memory Lane and going straight to Kill or Be Killed.

Kill Or Be Killed

"You are an idiot." Leya announced slowly into the phone. "That was such a stupid move."

After the events of Mason attacking Caroline, Tyler had somehow managed to call him off, Leya had returned home to Damon standing on her porch. Drunk.

"Why do women always have to be sneaky and manipulative?" He asked gazing at the Gilbert house.

"I gather you've had a tough day too?" Leya asked walking up the steps and to her front door.

Damon laughed harshly. "More like a tough century. So are you gonna answer my question?"

"Well I guess it just depends on the kind of women you hang out with. Not all of us are that bad you know." Leya said, gently flashing him a smile over her shoulder.

"No I guess not all of you are huh?" Damon stumbled to Leya who just walked into her house. "When are you gonna invite me in?"

"When you earn your invite, Mr. Salvatore."

Damon smiled laughing slurring. "You're too nice to be so lonely."

"So are you. Even though you hide your kindness." Leya whispered like she was telling a secret. "Go home, Damon, get some sleep."

"Yeah, ok I think I'll do that."

"It wasn't a stupid move, I had a theory I tested it out and yeah so the outcome wasn't exactly what I was hoping for but at least we know now that silver doesn't work on werewolves." Damon said through the phone.

"Damon, anyone could've told you silver doesn't work on werewolves. That's a complete myth!" Leya exclaimed into the phone as she gathered her stuff into a bag. "And now we have a potential enemy on our hands."

"Yeah? Well how was I supposed to know?" Damon asked rhetorically as he swirled his bourbon around his glass. "And Mason isn't a potential enemy, he is an enemy because he's a werewolf."

Leya who could hear the ice cubes against the glass stared at the phone in disbelief. "Damon, are you drinking? It's 9 in the morning."

"It's 12 o'clock somewhere." Was his response. "Hey are you going to the picnic charity thing?"

"Unfortunately, yes." Leya sighed. "Caroline's making me."

"Then I guess I'll see you there."

"What are you up to, Damon?" Leya asked regretfully, she could practically feel him smirk through the phone.

"Nothing you need to know."

"Damon -" She protested but all she got was the dial tone as he hung up. With a groan and a shake of her head she grabbed her bag and shut the door behind her as she walked to her car, the boxes needed for the picnic already placed inside.

The drive to the park was short and it was certainly a very nice park. The only other park Leya had been to was the one near Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon's house. And that park surrounded by dead grass, Dudley's gang of bullies and mountains of red ants was depressing. She remembered going there every day before her fifth year only to be attacked by Dudley and his gang and then the dementors.

This park however was alive with greenery and laughing children playing everywhere. Stefan had thankfully shown up at the right moment to help her with the boxes. "So I'm guessing by the annoyed look on your face Damon told you about his silver werewolf experience."

"On a scale of 'I'll let it slide' to 'I'm going to kill you' do you think we have a chance with Mason?" Leya asked handing one of the boxes to Stefan who held it up easily.

"I think we're somewhere in the middle." Stefan replied a frown tugging slightly at the corners of his mouth.

"That's very discouraging." Leya tapped the box on the top. "That's supposed to go to the table near Mrs. Lockwood."

With a small smile Stefan took the box and walked away. Leya sighed as she leaned into her car dragging another box towards her but with a miscalculation she pulled too hard dragging the box to the edge making it tip over. Just as everything was about to spill out a pair of hands caught the box helping her slide it back into the car.

"Thanks." Leya said breathless turning to face who helped her. Her smile shrunk as she faced Mason Lockwood.

"I don't think we've officially met, I'm Mason." He greeted smiling as he held out his hand.

"Leya Potter. Now it's official." She replied shaking his hand.

"It's funny I've been here for a couple of days and I've met most if not all your friends yet I haven't met you till now." He commented still smiling.

"Strange." Leya agreed cautiously forcing a small laugh.

"You know what else is strange?" He asked rhetorically. "How all your friends underestimate you. I just wanted to let you know that I won't."

Leya didn't know whether that was threat or not. It was obvious he knew what she was, she had no idea as to how he knew but she had no doubt that he did some digging before coming here.

"You must be, Stefan, right? The other Salvatore." Mason said suddenly turning his gaze from her to Stefan who was suddenly beside her.

"The nice one." Stefan said smiling kindly. "The one offering an apology."

"Not interested." Mason replied immediately, his smile from before disappearing completely.

"Look, my brother acted impulsively."

"You think?" Mason asked harshly and Leya let her eyes flicker down to his torso where Damon stabbed him with a knife. There was no evidence that he just got a knife shoved into him which meant that he had accelerated healing unlike the werewolves Leya was used to.

"If you and Damon keep at each other's throats, somebody innocent is going to get hurt and I don't want that. You have family here so I can imagine you'd want that too. So what do you say we just quit the whole alpha male fighting thing and call a truce?"

Mason clenched his jaw. "I made that same offer to your brother. He turned it down with a knife."

"He made a mistake." Leya voiced. "We're here to make sure that neither one of you make another one."

Mason looked between the two of them. "Tell Damon to watch his back."

As Mason tried to leave Stefan caught his arm. "Well, I'm guessing that he only has to worry about that during a full moon. Otherwise you're not as strong, am I right? Or you would have killed Damon by now. There's one of you. There are three of us. I think you're the one that needs to watch his back."

"If he comes at me…" Mason trailed off, the implication clear in his voice.

"He won't." Leya reassured. Mason again looked between the two of them and nodded his head before leaving.

"What are you two doing?" Damon asked walking up to Leya and Stefan.

"Negotiating peace on your behalf." Stefan said turning away from Mason to face Damon.

"I don't want peace." Damon said looking at them like they were crazy.

"Well then you can consider it opposite day." Leya said with a smile.

"Please tell me you guys don't seriously think a nod of his head just solved our problems." Damon said looking at them eyebrows furrowed in frustration.

"No, actually I think that the first chance Mason Lockwood gets, he's gonna drive a stake through your heart and then through mine, all because you took it upon yourself to try to kill him. So thank you, because we don't have enough problems as it is." Stefan said angrily leaving.

Damon scoffed turning to Leya. "He's over exaggerating."

"I don't think he is." Leya denied picking up a box and placing it in Damon's arms. "Now are you going to help or what?"

Leya sighed as she painted the veranda. They had been painting it for at least half an hour now and Leya wanted to kill herself. 'They' meant her, Caroline and Elena. Caroline who hadn't stopped talking (more like complaining) for the past ten minutes about her mother and Elena who was clearly distracted with something else didn't notice as Leya stealthily took out her wand and transfigured the flower petals into butterflies. Leya smiled as the children shrieked and giggled trying to catch the butterflies, it reminded her of Teddy.

"So suddenly, she's in the running for mother of the year just when I'm trying to avoid her the most." Caroline sighed looking to Leya and Elena only to see them distracted. "I'm babbling, you guys don't want to hear all this."

Leya dragged her eyes away from the children and looked at Caroline with an apologetic expression. "Oh, no, I was listening." At Caroline's disbelieving expression Leya continued. "What happened next?"

"Well, I was a bitch which is part of the course with us." Caroline explained with a sigh before turning to Elena. "So, how are things with you and Stefan? Anything?"

"No, not since the fight." Elena said gloomily. "He's been pushing me away because he thinks that Katherine might get jealous enough to hurt me. I just don't know how to change his mind."

"I didn't even know you two were fighting." Leya said looking at Elena aghast.

"You said that Katherine's dangerous. Maybe he's got a point." Caroline said eyebrows raised in suggestion.

"Yeah, I know that she's dangerous and I know that he's just trying to protect me but it feels like giving up and I just…"

"Just what?"

"I thought we were stronger than that." Elena's voice broke and she looked downwards.

"You are." Leya spoke turning to Elena encouragingly. "You and Stefan, Elena, your love is strong and passionate and Katherine can try as hard as she can but I don't think she'll ever be able to break the two of you up. You are stronger than whatever comes your way because you have Stefan and he has you. Don't give up."

Elena looked at Leya a new light shining in her eyes, she started to nod her head and smile. But then Leya noticed that when she shifted her gaze to Caroline her smile tugged down slightly as her euphoric confidence slipped into determination.

"I'm gonna go talk to him." Elena said standing up.

"No, Elena. I think that's a bad idea." Caroline interrupted hastily, feverishly shaking her head no.

Leya shot Caroline a confused look as she spoke to Elena. "Well, I think that's a great idea."

Elena nodded her head giving Caroline a look before walking over to Stefan. Leya turned to Caroline to ask her about what was going on when Damon suddenly appeared by Caroline.

"What's her problem?" Damon asked gazing at Elena's retreating back.

"Don't worry about it." Caroline sighed anxiously staring as Elena walked up to Stefan.

"Ok, how about a different question? Why are you being such a bitch to your mom?" Damon turned to face Caroline completely.

Caroline's jaw clenched in anger as she turned only her head to Damon. "Don't worry about it." This time it was much more aggressive.

Leya watched her eyebrows furrowing as the two suddenly fell silent staring at Stefan and Elena intently. She rolled her eyes and sighed once she figured out that they were eavesdropping. To be completely honest Leya wanted to know what they were talking about too. Stefan was her friend, probably her first real friend in Mystic Falls and she looked out for him. Since he came in a packaged deal with Elena by his side then it meant she looked after them both including their relationship. And, yeah, sometimes it sucked majorly not to have super hearing, strength, healing and speed that of a vampire but she still had her magic and she wouldn't trade it for the world.

Damon and Caroline's head snapped to the side, Leya following a slow second later, as Stefan and Elena looked their way. They were caught, well Damon and Caroline were caught Leya took no part in the eavesdropping even though she couldn't anyway. She could tell Damon and Caroline was only pretending to not listen, even though their heads were turned it didn't mean that their ears weren't still tuned in.

"What were they talking about?" Leya asked worriedly as Elena and Stefan split ways sadness and a little anger radiating from the both of them.

"Relationships are about communication." Damon replied throwing a smirk at Caroline as he looked at Leya. Caroline huffed angrily grabbing Leya's wrist pulling her away.

"Stop, stop…" Leya said pulling her arm back causing Caroline to stop as well and turn to her. "What's wrong, Caroline?"

"Nothing's wrong." Caroline said with a 'duh' expression but her tone of voice gave her way.

"Look, whatever you're trying to do with Stefan and Elena's relationship – and don't try to deny it." Leya said cutting off Caroline who opened her mouth to protest. "Just think about your best friend who you will be hurting if they break up."

Caroline made a squeaked noise like she wanted to tell Leya something but with a resound sigh and a sad 'I know' they continued walking to were Elena sat. Elena was sitting near the small stream that ran through the park on some flat rocks. Leya had no problem and started to walk down when she heard a little squeal behind her.

"Caroline, are you serious?" Leya asked in disbelief. Caroline had stopped and was looking at the rocks nervously shifting her weight from one foot to another.

"I'm in heels." She said with a look on her face that said what-do-you-expect-me-to-do?

"You're a vampire. That also includes an abnormal amount of balance and gracefulness."

Caroline made an 'oh' face before a large proud grin stretched across her lips. Leya sighed and rolled her eyes as she continued her way down to Elena.

"You ok?" Leya asked Elena once the three of them were settled and silent.

"No."

"You know, maybe it's for the best." Caroline burst sending her a hopeful smile.

Leya's eyes widened as she gave Caroline a what-are-you-doing look while Elena started her rant. "It's not for the best, Caroline! None of this is for the best." She paused taking a deep breath as Caroline reeled back in shock and Leya winced at her harsh tone. "I'm sorry, ok? I – I don't mean to take it out on you. Either of you. You guys are just being good friends."

"No." Caroline denied sadly after a moment of silence. "I'm not. I'm not being a good friend at all." Elena opened her mouth ready to ask something with a knowing look in her eyes. But she didn't get the chance as Caroline's head snapped to the side so fast Leya got whiplash just from watching it. "Is she leaving? Where is my mom going?"

Caroline stood up and started to walk up to where her mom was faster than any normal person walking across rocks in heels would. Leya walked up to her Elena following close behind. Sheriff Forbes instead of going to her car went straight into the woods.

"What's going on?" Elena asked confused.

"I don't know but something's up." Caroline replied.

"Where are you going?" Leya asked following Caroline as she started to jog lightly although Leya could tell she was holding herself back from running at full vampire speed.

Leya grunted as Caroline started to lead them uphill. She blew out a breath once they were on flat ground Caroline looking out at the park. Elena joined them a few seconds later trying to contain her huffing but it was obvious she was out of breath. Leya meshed her lips together to try stopping her smile from being exposed but Elena caught her anyway.

"What are you smiling at?" Elena asked pressing her thumb into her side as she leaned over slightly a sharp pain erupting around her ribs.

"Nothing, it's just-" Leya muttered coughing to hide her laughter. "You know since you've quit cheerleading you've gotten a little, unfit."

Leya looked at Elena in faux shock as she hit her lightly on the arm. "Shut up." Elena mumbled a blush spreading across her cheeks knowing Leya was right, cheerleading was the only exercise she did. And she wondered how Leya managed to stay in shape since she never saw her doing any sort of exercising.

"Shh." Caroline shushed them glaring sharply. "I can't hear." A few minutes later and Caroline looked at them shocked. "Oh god."

"What it is?" Leya asked anxiously at Caroline's change of emotion.

"It's Stefan and Damon."

"What?" Elena burst staring at Caroline frantically. "What happened?"

"There's no time to explain, come on were losing them." Caroline said jogging (purely for their benefit so they could keep up) as she went deeper in to the woods.

Leya skidded to a halt beside Caroline, Elena huffing behind them pressing into her ribs harder as the pain increased. She was very unfit. "What is it?" Elena asked as her and Leya observed Caroline.

"They've been here." Caroline said bending down and rubbing the little bit of blood on the leaf off.

"What are you guys doing out here?" A masculine voice said from behind them.

All three girls turned around to see Mason. Leya who was immediately suspicious at the sight of him took a defensive stance in front of Elena and Caroline. She moved her hand behind her to grab her wand which was tucked into the waist band of her jeans. Moody always told her not to put her wand there or else she'd loose a buttock but it was hard to break old habits.

"Have you seen Stefan?" Elena asked anxiousness pouring out of her.

"Yeah, Elena, I've seen him." Mason replied his eyes sweeping all of them. "Seen Damon too."

"Then I guess you wouldn't mind telling us where they are." Leya stated staring him in the eyes.

"Oh you don't need me for that." Mason said chuckling a little. "I'll let your friend here sniff them out." He continued gesturing with his head to Caroline. He knew what she was, probably one of his other werewolf powers.

"Does your mother know what you are?" He asked Caroline curiously the threat clear in his voice. "I'd be happy to tell her."

Caroline breathed in sharply anger radiating from her as she took a step forward. But Elena who had somehow managed to get closer to Mason was suddenly in a chokehold as he strangled her from behind. Caroline stopped short beside Leya as she looked worriedly to her best friend.

"Don't be stupid!" Mason advised squeezing his arm tighter making Elena gasp for air. "Necks snap easy around here."

"You know it's funny." Leya spoke making Mason turn his gaze from Caroline to her. "You said you wouldn't underestimate me but you already have. A lot of people have and they have no idea what I'm capable of."

Mason tightened his arm around Elena's neck ready to break it but Leya lifted her wand and shouted. "Everte Statum" Mason's arm around Elena's neck went limp as he flew back into the tree. He hit it hard with a painful grunt as Caroline sped over and kneed him in his most sensitive area. Mason was down and wouldn't be back up for a while.

Leya rushed to Elena and helped her up since she fell because Mason was supporting most of her weight as he choked her. She grabbed Elena by the arm and started to pull her running blindly knowing Caroline was near them. Leya stops nearby some ruins and stares as it as Caroline arrives doing the same thing.

"What is that?" Elena asked panicked and out of breath from their ordeal as they could hear faint shouting from the ruins. "Caroline. Caroline, what is it?"

"It's my mom." Caroline replied softly looking at the entrance in horror. "She's killing them."

"What?!" Elena yelled. "We have to stop her."

As Elena and Leya tried to walk down the steps Caroline held them back. "No, I can't." Desperation leaked through her voice. "She's gonna find out about me."

"Then stay here, because we're not going to let her kill them." Leya said pulling out of Caroline's grasp as Elena already left without a word.

Leya trailed quickly behind Elena as they walked deeper. When Elena stopped briefly to pick up a plank of wood Leya asked her what she was doing but she continued on without saying anything. When they came across the first deputy standing guard Elena smacked him over the head with the wood knocking him out before he even touched the floor.

"Oh my God." Leya whispered yelled to Elena. "What are you doing? I could've taken him out in a less painful way, he's gonna end up with a major headache."

But Elena ignored her and went on.

"Elena! Leya! What are you doing?" Sherriff Forbes asked shocked. Elena dropped the plank of wood.

"You can't kill them. I'm not gonna let you." Elena said fiercely. Sherriff Forbes opened her mouth to say something when there was a screech behind them. Then the door closed.

"What was that?" One of the deputies asked, his arm reaching back for his gun that was tucked on his side.

"Who else is with you?" Sherriff Forbes asked turning to the girls.

A vicious snarl ripped through the cellar as the deputy was pulled back into the shadows of the corner. His scream echoed for only a second as blood gushed from the side of his neck. The other deputy tried to help but Caroline pushed him back knocking him into the wall and out of consciousness. She lifted her head slightly, mouth still smudged with blood and her fangs peaking just below her lip.

"Hi mom."

"You need to drink some deputy blood." Damon said as he lifted his head from the dead deputy looking at Stefan who was hunched over in pain Elena rubbing his back comfortingly.

"No. I'm gonna be fine. It's just gonna take me a little bit longer." Stefan protested.

"Damon's right you know. If there's ever a time to break your diet-" Caroline spoke from where she was sitting on the steps but Elena interrupted her.

"He said he didn't want it ok?" Elena snapped.

"This is a most unfortunate situation." Damon said slowly standing up. "Two deputies dead and you." Damon looked to Sherriff Forbes. "What am I going to do with you?"

"You won't tell anyone, will you?" Caroline asked nervously, "Mom? Mom? Please. Look, I know that we don't get along and that you hate me but I'm your daughter and you'll do this for me, right?" Caroline asked her voice wavering. "Mom, please. He will kill you."

"Then kill me." Sherriff Forbes said looking away from Caroline. She hadn't once looked at Caroline since she killed the deputy revealing her vampirism.

"No!" Caroline shouted.

"I can't take this." Sherriff Forbes said eyes closed shut. "Kill me now."

Damon backed her up against the wall. "But you were going to drag it out so painfully."

"Damon don't!" Leya shouted holding Caroline as she cried out several no's.

"Damon!" Stefan shouted.

"Relax guys." Damon said throwing them all a look. "No one is killing anybody." He turned back to Sherriff Forbes. "You're my friend."

Leya relaxed slightly as Damon backed away from Caroline's mother. And Caroline sagged in Leya's arms relieved she would still have her mom at the end of the day. Of course she would try and stop Damon but it wouldn't matter since he was older than her which meant much much stronger.

"We've got to clean this up." Damon said looking down at the two deputies.

"A stomach bug. Yeah, it came on fast. I'll definitely be out tomorrow." Sherriff Forbes spoke on the phone the person on the other line obviously form her work. Damon made a noise of disagreement. "Or longer. I'll text you. Yeah. Goodnight."

She hung up the phone and gave it to Damon. Leya sighed as she watched them leaning against the door of the Salvatore cell in the basement. "Thank you. It's not exactly the Ritz, but it's secure. Brought you a good thread count. And once the vervain is worked out of your system, I will compel you, you will forget everything and be a free woman once more."

Leya glanced to her side as she saw Elena, Stefan and Caroline walk up but stop just outside the door. "Can you keep Caroline far away from me please? I don't want to see her."

"She's your daughter." Leya spoke after seeing the hurt look on Caroline's face.

"Not anymore. My daughter's gone."

Caroline turned and left, the bag meant for her mother on the floor with Elena and Stefan rushing after her. "You have no idea how wrong you are about that."

Leya turned to leave but she couldn't without saying something. "How do you do that?" She asked Sherriff Forbes. The Sherriff turned to her confused as did Damon. "How can you say you're daughter's gone?"

Leya breathed in sharply clenching her fists. "My mother died for me when I was a baby. And I would give anything, anything to see her, to talk her, to touch her. You're pushing your daughter away when you should be getting to know more about her. You may think your daughter is a monster now but she isn't. She is far from being a monster because I've seen real monsters and Caroline is strong and beautiful inside and out and if you can't see that, then you're not worthy of being her mother or a mother at all."

Leya scoffed and shook her head disappointedly as the Sherriff looked away from her. Leya turned and walked out of the cell, the door closed behind her and footsteps followed her. She felt Damon's hand grab her arm stopping her and pulling her back. She clenched her jaw and turned slowly looking at him.

"What was that about?" He asked softly.

"It was about a mother turning her own daughter down." Leya replied.

"Ok, and what was that about the monsters?" Damon asked lifting her hand and tapping on the back of it against her scar. "Was it something to do with this?"

"That scar was a small part of it, yes." Leya replied carefully. "I have a lot of scars, Damon, and they all lead to one person. "

"And who is this person?"

"No one you'll ever know."

So I just wanted to say to the guest reviewer who wrote this: 'i dont like this story you are making her to much like elena she need to be like rei from unexpected happienings plzz update though and re-write your story'

Are you freaking kidding me? Why the hell would I make my character to that of someone else who I respect, especially her writing. And Leya does not act like Elena at least I don't think she does if you don't like this story anymore because of a change in personality and people always change by the way then please go away because I'm not gonna stand for reviews that tell me to change my character to someone else's that's called plagiarism.

Sorry for the ranting but I'm just really pissed off. And thank you to everyone who left a good review you guys are awesome! Also special thanks to XxBlindXxAngelXx again for reviewing that I accidently called Leya, Diana I was writing two fics at the same time if anyone else notices this please tell me I appreciate it.
