The Red Bitch as Arya had started calling her, had been leading them up mountains and through thick forests for almost five days now. By this time the burlap sack had been removed from Gendry`s head but his wrists were still bound with a rope that was tied to the saddle horn of Derik's saddle. The bag had proven a bad idea when an hour into the trip they had to keep stopping because Gendry was tripping over everything. Arya felt so much pity for him, but he stayed strong he never showed how tired and sore he really was. Arya wished she could get her hands on Needle, she would only need a moment and everyone here would be dead. But she was forced to sit behind Eedan on his horse her hands always tied up around his waist so that she couldn`t run off again. The first day she had been put on the horse in front of Derik and he kept touching her and whispering into her ear. She had managed to slide down off the horse in an attempt to make a run for it when Gendry hurled himself into Derik knocking him off the horse and onto the ground. She kept trying to pull Gendry off of Derik but it was no good, Gendry had him and didn`t seem to be planning on letting him up any time soon, so Arya had tried to find a weapon of some sort but Melisandra stepped in and placed one hand on both Arya and Gendry`s head and everything went black until Arya had woken several hours later near a fire bound laying on the opposite side of the clearing from Gendry. She had been placed next to Eedan and that is where she had stayed for the rest of the journey. Arya didn`t mind being with Eedan he didn`t talk much and when he did he was polite to both her and Gendry. She still hated him for tying her up and never letting her have a moment alone but he was better than Derik. Gendry wasn`t fond of Eedan she had noticed but that seemed to be for other reasons.
Finally on the fifth day they made their way up a steep mountain trail. They had started up that morning and it was just beginning to darken when Arya noticed the flicker of fire lite ahead and could hear voices.
"Is that where we are going?" She asked Eedan quietly. He said nothing just nodded. Arya looked back at Gendry, he had noticed it to. Their eyes met and they gave each other looks of both question and determination before Melisandre`s voice cause them to look up at her.
"Here we are." They had reached the top of the mountain it was flat and rather vast, but almost every inch of it was covered in tents. There were small fires lit everywhere. To the right of the tent city stood several larger tents. Arya figured that must be where they were going to be taken, that is where Stannis is.
Melisandra led the way through the camp as the other four followed behind her. They reached Stannis`s tent and Eedan untied Arya`s hands allowing her to slide down off of the horse. Melisandra slid from her horse and handed the reins to Eedan as he led them into a nearby makeshift stable. Gendry was untied from the saddle and his hands were freed, then he was immediately beside Arya.
She glanced up at him. "What are they going to do with you?" she whispered.
"I don`t know but if you get the chance to get out of here you take, you run as far as possible. With or without me. "
"Don`t be stupid, I`m not leaving without you and you know it."
Gendry gave her a look of desperation, "Arya…" he began but was interrupted.
"Come." Melisandre nodded toward the tent. "Your king is waiting."
The inside of the tent was dimly lit by at least a hundred candles. The light flickered across a large table that was covered by a thick cloth map of Westeros. Behind the table a man Arya only assumed could be Stannis was watching Melisandra as she made her way to him. To his right a middle aged man with a whitening hair but a gentle face stood with his hand on his sword hilt his eyes watching Melisandra. No one seemed to be paying her and Gendry much attention. Gendry was still right beside her, only a hairs distance away, and she could sense how tense he was. His hands were in fists and his jaw clenched. Without being obvious she brushed her hand against his as they took another small step forward. He relaxed a little at her touch but not much.
"My lady it is good to have you back. I see that you accomplished your task."
"I did my king, and I am glad to be back at your side where I belong." She gently touched Stannis` face. The man to Stannis`s left rolled his eyes and looked toward Arya and Gendry. His eyes grew large when he saw them.
"You brought more than we were expecting." Stannis now turned his attention away from Melisandre to the two of them.
"Who is the girl, why is she here." Stannis walked around the table toward them.
"She is…" Melisandre but Arya interrupted her. She had no patience for this drama and time wasting. She and Gendry needed food and sleep as well as a Maester and if they were going to be killed they needed to get on with it.
"My name is Arya Stark. Daughter of Lord Eddard Stark of Winterfell." She stood as tall as she could as she said it.
Stannis looked her over then stepped forward until he was towering over her. Gendry took a small step forward defensively.
"Your father was a good man Lady Arya, he died for the truth. He died trying to see that I, the rightful king sat on the throne."
"My father died because Joffrey and his mother had his head cut off in front of the entire city."
"The Lannister`s will get what they deserve. Lady Arya I promise you that." Arya looked at him her large grey eyes unblinking.
"My name is Arya, I am no lady."
Stannis stood and turned to speak to the white haired man behind him.
"Well Davos it seems that there are two Arya Starks then, but I would bet my crown this is the real one."
The man named Davos spoke with an amused tone. "You would be a fool to deny she is who she says she is, she could be the late Lady Lyanna's twin."
Arya looked at Stannis and back to Davos, then to Gendry and back to Stannis in utter confusion.
"There is only one Arya Stark and that is me. Who is the other Arya you speak of?" Stannis turned his attention back to her.
"You are addressing the true King in the North you should speak to him with more respect." Melisandre's haughty voice came from the head of the table.
Stannis waved away her comment. "The story is being spread that you are back in Winterfell wed to Ramsay Bolton. But it would seem that that is not true, because here you are."
Arya could taste the bile rising in her throat. Not only was the bastard son of the monster that had betrayed her mother and brother living in her home, but had made everyone believe that she had married him.
"No one in all of the Seven Kingdoms could actually believe that I would marry a shit like him."
Stannis just looked at her with the slightest hint of a smile playing on his lips. "No I don`t believe they do." And then his eyes wandered up to Gendry.
He looked him over for almost a minute before he spoke. "You do look so much like Robert." He then looked back at Arya, "and you, it`s like seeing Robert and Lyanna all over again."
For the first time since entering the tent Gendry spoke.
"What do you want with me?"
Stannis only stared at Gendry for a moment before finally answering.
"You will find out soon enough, for now you will be shown to your tents, and that is where you will stay for the night. You will be given food and drink and a sufficient bed to sleep in." Then he turned his back on them and Davos and Melisandra stepped forward.
"I want to know why I am here." Gendry`s voice was loud and strong. Much stronger than Arya had heard it in days.
Stannis stopped and looked at him. "And you will but now your King is giving you a command, and if you do not wish to sleep outside with the dogs without food you will do as you`re told and ask no more questions."
They both stared at each other with their blinding blue eyes unblinking, until Melisandra slid her arm through Gendry`s and spoke softly in his ear. "Come boy all will be revealed soon." Her face was only an inch from Gendry`s and Arya noticed him shiver as she spoke. She felt hatred and jealousy boil up inside her, but before she could do anything Gendry was being led away out the tent. He looked at her over his shoulder as Davos placed a hand on hers.
"Come on Lady Stark." Arya didn`t have the energy to correct him so she was silent and let him lead her out behind Gendry. Once outside they were led in opposite directions. Gendry stopped and snatched his arm from Melisandre`s. "Where are you taking her, why are we going to the same place?"
"Because this isn't the Kings Road where you to get to sleep together. She is a lady and you are still only a bastard. She will be sleeping beside the King`s daughter and wife's tent."
"She will be safe I assure you." Davos nodded at Gendry who looked at him doubtfully.
Gendry looked at her in panic. Arya didn`t know what to do. She knew arguing was pointless but she also didn`t trust them to take Gendry without her knowing where he was going.
"It`s alright Gen I`ll be fine." She winked at him and turned around following Davos away from Gendry. Leaving him alone with the red bitch. She felt guilty for it, but she would sneak out of her tent tonight and make her way to Gendry`s and from there they could make a plan on how to get out of here, and kill this person pretending to be Arya Stark
