Chapter 11 - Held Hostage

When I awoke, I couldn't tell where I was. It was dark, but there was a faint spotlight over me and Todd, who was asleep in a similar chair to mine on the other side of the large room. I was tied up. The rope that bound my hands together was digging into my wrists and the more I struggled, the more it hurt.

Viola Viola Viola Viola VIOLA I heard Todd's Noise scream.

"Your Noise reveals you, Todd Hewitt," I heard a voice I recognised, but I was too groggy to put a name to it. "Do you remember that? It was a long time ago now."

"Where are our children," I asked calmly, although to me, it didn't sound like it was a question.

"Oh!" The Mayor exclaimed, but his voice made it sound like he wasn't surprised at all. "The girls awake as well. What a surprise! I wish I could hear you like I can hear Mr. Hewitt here - it would make life so much easier."

"Oh sure it would," I muttered. "But its not gonna happen, is it? Because you simply don't have the power."

I felt a sharp shock in my arm. "Maybe I do, though," The Mayor responded. I crippled down off my seat and to the floor. Before my eyes closed, I heard Todd shout something but I wasn't sure if it was directed at me or the Mayor - but I didn't have time to find out, because it was blackout before I even knew it.

I was in the same place again when I opened my eyes. "How long was I out?" I whispered across the room to Todd.

"About a minute," he replied quietly, his voice sounding like he needed to cough. It was like his throat was dry. "His weak tools can't keep us out for long." As soon as the words left his mouth, he yelled out in pain and his head snapped back. I guess the Mayor had shocked him as well.

"Todd, just stay quiet," I whispered willingly to him, hoping with all that I had that the Mayor hadn't heard, and I was lucky, I guess, because nothing happened, and Todd didn't speak again.

The Mayor strutted over a few minutes later with his arms crossed behind his back and immediately Todd and I both stiffened - we knew something was up.

"Hello again, children," he said with a fake smile, almost like a smirk. "You're so big now - I still imagine you as small teenagers, running around here, thinking that you could rule the place." He laughed, booming out into the stiff air. He still didn't take his arms out from behind his back, but I didn't dare provoke him. "Now you have children of your own, and what wonderful children they are." Todd struggled and turned his hands in the ropes that bound them.

The Mayor came over to him. "Oh, you want to get out? You're right. Maybe I am being too harsh on you two." He brought out a knife from his hands - that is what he was hiding - and brought it down on the ropes. Todd screamed, and as I leant backwards to see what was going on, my chair toppled to the floor, distracting the Mayor, stopping Todd's screaming, and knocking me out.
