There was a pleasant silence in the Dragneel household, all until…
'Fire Dragon Iron Fist,' a young girl said, before punching her half-asleep father in the face. The girl in question had long, pink hair and hazel eyes. She bore a staggering resemblance to her father, and if it weren't for her shared love of books or guild emblem imprinted on her hand, people would forget she was Lucy's child.
'Good morning to you too, Nashi,' Natsu said, ruffling her hair.
'Come on guys, get up already,' Nashi said. 'Get up so we can go to the guild. I owe Mika a rematch.'
Lucy pulled her daughter into a quick hug. She frowned towards Natsu. 'She gets that from you, you know.'
'Come on, come on, come on,' Nashi repeated, yanking on her parents' arms and dragging them out of bed.
The morning didn't start off quite as quiet in the Fullbuster household. From the crack of dawn, three youngsters ran, jumped, and tumbled, all over the house. Mika, the eldest, led the pack down the stairs and into the living room. She took a lot of traits from her father, if not all of them. From her navy-black hair to her charcoal eyes. Her black guild emblem poked out from her crop top and rested to the left of her bellybutton. On her right arm, a black tattoo - identical to her father's - pulsated as she coated the house in purple ice. Her younger brother, Rin, chased after her, dodging the random squares of ice scattering the flooring. Like Mika, Rin shared her navy-black hair that was spiked up in a similar style to his uncle Lyon. His eyes were a deep blue that resembled his mother.
'You're in for it now, Nee-san,' he said, clenching his fists.
'You don't know who you're dealing with, Rin.' Mika grinned and held up her tattooed arm.
'Nee-san, Nii-san, please stop fighting,' the youngest sibling said. This child resembled her mother to a fault. She had short light blue hair with the same blue eyes as her brother. She hid behind a wall and clung to a Teru-Teru Bozu doll; handcrafted by her mother.
'Stay out of this, Selena,' the two quarrelling siblings said.
Selena frowned and scurried out of the room, avoiding the shards of ice that were suddenly shooting off the walls. Selena didn't like fighting. Not at all. But in a way, she did envy her older siblings a great deal. Her magic was far weaker than theirs and had, so far, shown no signs of improving. She dragged her Teru-Teru Bozu doll across the wooden stairs and reached her parents' bedroom. Selena quietly knocked with her tiny fists and pushed the door just enough to sneak through. Her parents turned towards the door from their bed and smiled.
'Selena-chan, what's wrong?' Juvia said, concern in her tone.
'Nee-san and Nii-san are fighting again.' She shuffled her bare feet together.
Gray climbed out of bed and pulled her into a strong embrace, running a hand through her hair. 'Just leave them to it. You wanna stay here with us?'
'Mmhm.' She nodded and sniffled, leaning her head against her father's shoulder.
Gray walked back to the bed and pulled up the blanket. Juvia held out her arms and Selena snuggled into a tight hug between both parents. Their moment of peace was almost immediately interrupted when the two troublemakers burst through the doors.
'Dad, when are we going to the guild?' Mika said. 'I promised Nashi I'd kick her ass.'
Selena nestled further into her mother and Gray sat up.
'We'll go once all that ice you've flung around the house has been cleaned up,' Gray said. 'We don't want it all to melt and flood the house again now, do we? And don't even think about hiding any of it 'cause I'll know.'
The two young ice wizards groaned as they dragged themselves back downstairs to their battlefield.
'Gray-sama, Juvia thinks you are a little hard on them sometimes,' Juvia said.
Gray shrugged. 'Sometimes it's necessary. Come on.' He pulled Selena from her mother and lifted her onto his shoulders. 'Let's get our stuff ready.'
Selena giggled as her father swung her around on his back. Juvia smiled warmly at her youngest child's contentment. It was a rare sight for her daughter to have such a huge smile on her face. Juvia couldn't imagine how difficult it was growing up in a guild without the full use of her magic. She hopped down from her bed and joined her husband and daughter as they made their way downstairs to assess the damage.
Erza and her husband, Jellal, were preparing a fresh breakfast for their snoozing son. Jellal shook a small pan and flipped his pancake over. Erza smiled as she grabbed a bowl of strawberries from the fridge.
'Isn't it about time he woke up?' Erza said.
'I'm not surprised he's still asleep,' Jellal said. 'With all that training you two did yesterday, he must be exhausted.'
As if on cue, a boy with unkempt blue hair and brown eyes trudged into the kitchen and slumped into a chair. 'Morning.' He yawned.
'Morning Simon,' Jellal said. He slid the pancake onto a stack of three more and tossed the pan into the sink.
Erza squeezed a small dollop of cream on the stack and decorated the remainder of the plate with strawberries. She placed them in front of her son and smiled as he yawned again.
'Someone's still half asleep,' she said.
'That's what I get for asking you to train with me,' Simon said, grinning.
'I feel your pain, kiddo,' Jellal said, earning a hit on the arm from his wife.
Simon laughed and dug his fork into the pancakes, shovelling a large bite into his mouth. Erza and Jellal both took their seats at the table and the three enjoyed their traditional pancake breakfast.
Each family made their way to the guild. The Fernandez family were the first to arrive. Simon wore his newly designed armour chest plate - that made even his mother jealous - and carried a small training sword at his side. They were promptly greeted by the Redfox family. Levy waved over to Erza, and Gajeel gave them his usual snarky grin. Their twins, Kai and Roxane smiled at Simon. Kai, despite Gajeel's influence, was a lot like his mother. He carried a book in one hand, written by esteemed novelist Lucy Heartfelia-Dragneel, and had even taken to practising his mother's Solid Script magic. His sister, on the other hand, took after Gajeel's thirst for a good fight and a broody attitude to go with it. She was fully invested in her Dragon Slayer magic and often trained with Pantherlily to keep her skills on par with the other chaotic slayers of the guild. Simon said goodbye to his parents and joined the twins at a separate table.
Next up came the Dragneels. Nashi slammed the doors open with her foot. 'We're here.'
'Here we go,' Simon said, rolling his eyes.
'What's that supposed to mean, bastard?' Nashi stomped over to their table, leaving her parents to join the other adults.
'What did you just call me?' Simon gave Nashi a killer glare that so perfectly resembled his mother.
'N-nothing.' Nashi immediately plopped down into a seat, refusing to meet Simon's eyes.
At the adults' table, Lucy laughed. 'It's scary how much they are like you two.' She turned to Natsu and Erza who laughed fondly.
And last, but certainly not least, the Fullbuster family arrived. Just as her rival did, Mika burst through the doors foot first. 'Where is she?'
Nashi chuckled and jumped onto the table. 'Oh, that's right, I owe you a beating.' She clenched her fists, smoke beginning to leak from her fingers.
Mika marched forward. 'You're going down, Pinkie.'
'I'm gonna make you eat those words, Frost Bite.'
Both girls pounced at one another like hungry beasts and their fists connected. Rin manoeuvred his way around the fight to join his fellow guildmates. Gray and Juvia shared a knowing look as their oldest kicked Nashi's feet from under her. They joined the adults at their table, Selena still clinging to her father's neck as he held her in his arms.
'So, it begins.' Levy sighed and leaned her head against her hand.
'And to think, Fairy Tail had almost avoided the constant brawls when these idiots decided to mature,' Erza said. 'We really should have seen this coming.'
Natsu grinned at Gray before turning his attention to the young girl snuggling into his side. 'Mornin' Selena.'
'Hi, Uncle Natsu,' Selena said, giving him a shy smile.
'Selena, come look at this,' Kai said from the other table.
Selena peered over her father's shoulder before looking up at him with hopeful eyes.
'You don't need to look at me like that. Go,' Gray said. He kissed her lightly on her forehead and lifted her back down to ground level.
Selena smiled at her parents and scuffled over to the other table.
'She's so much like you, Juvia' Gajeel said.
Juvia blushed and smiled as Gray wrapped an arm around her.
'This is kinda crazy,' Lucy said. 'We've all changed so much since back then. We used to be the loud, rambunctious kids wrecking the place, and now the baton's been handed over to the next generation. You think they'll cause as much chaos as we did?'
Natsu grinned. 'They've got our genes, don't they? They're gonna be so much worse.'
