The Mystery Machine pulled up outside what seemed a small wooden house. Outside sat a police cruiser . Steps led up to a front porch, where a moustached man stood.
"Well, hi there!" The man called out. The gang climbed out the van, stretching their legs and arms.
"Hi." Fred called out. "You must be Deputy Swan?"
"Chief Swan, actually. Call me Charlie, though. You're Mystery Inc. right?"
"Yes. I'm Fred. This is Daphne, Velma, Shaggy and Scooby Doo." Fred gestured too each of the group.
"Well, come on in. My… friend, Sue, is in the front room. It looks like it's about to rain, too, so hurry up."
Daphne moaned quietly, glancing over to see if Shaggy was going to say anything. Fred noticed this and ushered the gang inside the house. Charlie led them through a hall into the living room. The room was relatively large, and a large arch led through into the kitchen. A woman with black hair stood up and came to shake hands with the guests.
"Hi. You must be Mystery Inc.? I'm Sue, Charlie's girlfriend." At this, Chief Swan went bright red. Fred laughed.
"Sorry, it's very recent, this relationship." Charlie explained.
"No worries, Charlie." Fred chuckled, and then glanced round the room, which was empty.
"No kids, chief?" Fred asked, but instantly regretted it as he saw Charlie Swan's eyes slightly well up.
"Um, yeah. I got Bella. But, she's…she's sick, at the moment. But, y'know, she's fine. I know she's fine. Y'know, I actually better call her now." Charlie reached for the phone, but Sue grabbed his arm.
"Charlie, sweetie, Bella's fine. She's got Edward after all. Let's get this over and done with, and then if you're still worried, you can call."
"Yeah, that's what I'm worried about."
"Is Edward abusive?" Velma asked.
"What, no. Nah, Edward's a good kid. He's from a good background, is Edward. His dad's a doctor. Y'know, they got married a few weeks ago. But…I ain't seen my Bells since the wedding…" Charlie trailed off. The gang shuffled on the spot awkwardly, but fortunately Sue spotted this.
"Charlie, you need to start talking." Sue rubbed his shoulder affectionately, and led him to the sofa.
"Yeah. Sorry. Ehh, sit down, guys. So, y'know,I actually feel quite embarrassed about this, you know, I'm a cop, and, well, I'm calling ghost hunters to investigate, which is stupid, because, you know, I could solve this myself, but.." Charlie started mumbling.
"Charlie." Sue said.
"Oh. Yeah. Sorry. Okay, so where do I begin?"
"From the beginning." Velma said.
"Okay. Well, I don't believe in this supernatural malarkey. You know werewolves." He shuddered, when he said the word. "But, well, it started about a year ago. There were 3 missing hikers reported, all were found dead with bite marks on the neck and wrists. Large ones. I made the conclusion that it was just wolves, or bears in the forest. But when … Bella … came home one day; she said she witnessed large wolves, abnormally large wolves." Charlie stated.
"Did she tell you what the wolves looked like?" Daphne asked.
"No. I just panicked and grabbed my gun. I mean…swear to God...if anyone else in my town got hurt…" Charlie trailed again.
"Did someone else get hurt?" Fred asked.
"No. But my good friend, Harry, he…he had a heart attack and… died. He came out with me, to find these mutts, and he just…collapsed."
"Charlie, do you have any idea what these wolves look like? I mean, we kinda need to know what exactly it is we're looking for." Daphne asked. She was holding a sketch pad and pencil in her lap.
"No, the only person who knows is Bella."
"Then, do you know where we could find her? Is she in the local hospital?" Velma asked.
"No, she's…she's in Switzerland. At a medical centre."
"In Switzerland?! Shoot. Is there anyone else at all who might have spotted them?!" Fred asked, desperately. He didn't like starting a mystery with absolutely no leads.
"I guess you could ask…um…oh, you could ask Billy Black, or Jake. They live on a ranch thing in La Push. Or you could ask Edward's family, they live in this huge house on a hill in the forest." Velma got out her notepad and pen.
"Could you give us the address of these two places?"
"Ehh, I could give the Blacks house address, but the Cullen's, I'm not too sure of. You could ask Forks General Hospital for Dr. Cullens address. Ok, Billy's address is…"
Whilst Charlie was reeling of the two addresses to Velma and Daphne, Fred harshly nudged Shaggy in the ribs.
"Dude, really!" Shaggy gasped, as he rubbed his skin.
"Shaggy. We are a team. We work together. Now will you bloody say something, contribute, I don't know but just do…something!" hissed Fred, as he sidled to the side of Daphne.
"Dickhead." Shaggy muttered, as he continued soothing his ribs. Daphne, Velma, Fred and Scooby all stood up.
"Okay. Well, I think that's all. We'll talk to Dr. Cullen and Billy tomorrow, and let you know of any findings." Standing up, Fred shook hands with Charlie, and then exited the room with the gang in tow, leaving Shaggy and Charlie.
Before leaving, Shaggy spotted a picture on the mantelpiece. He stood up and went to look at it. It was of a very beautiful girl; pale skinned with dark hair and muddy brown eyes. She was wearing a blue dress with a white cardigan and a cast on her right leg. She looked young in this photo, and next to her was a man. Very pale with brownish – bronze hair. This man wore a tux. Shaggy assumed this photo was of prom. Next to this was another picture. It was the same girl, and the same features, but she looked prettier. She was in a white wedding dress, and was holding a bunch of white flowers. She was smiling, happy, sick-free. The photo was framed by oak.
"Is this Bella?" Shaggy asked to Charlie. Charlie looked over and nodded.
"Yeah, it is. My Bells, and her Edward." He gestured to the prom photo. "Course, this photo is 2 years old now, so she's changed. She's beautiful ain't she? But, she's ill now so…" There was a brief silence.
"Y'know, it doesn't matter where she is, or what she has, but I bet she's still beautiful." Shaggy whispered. Charlie continued staring at the photo.
"Thanks."
"Shag. C'mon. We're going." Fred called from outside. Shaggy turned to leave the room. Stepping into the cold, he made his way down the porch steps and clambered into the van.

"Having a daydream in there, Shag?" Velma asked, whilst the van was speeding towards the hotel they had booked: a large cabin type building.
"No, he was just being ignorant." Fred answered.
"I'm pretty sure I can answer for myself, Fred."
"Really? Because you didn't seem to answer any of the questions Charlie asked."
"What? He didn't even ask any questions. It was you who asked them. And, quite frankly, Fred, do I recall that you asked a personal question that actually made him cry?"
"I was getting information." Fred spat
"No, you were being nosy." Shaggy spat back.
"Will you guys get on?!" Daphne shouted. "Fred, concentrate on the road! Guys, we're a team, remember. This is a pretty serious mystery, a mystery that has taken one of the victims close friends. If you can't get on, then what? The mystery will not be solved properly, we'll receive negative ratings, no one will hire us and ultimately we will split up! Now is that what you guys want?"
"No." Fred and Shaggy both muttered simultaneously.
"Exactly. So for the remainder of this mystery, can there be no arguing. Please?"
"Yes, Daphne." The boys muttered again.
