The nightmares started shortly after the war's end. Team Avatar was still in Ba Sing Se, staying at Iroh's tea shop, The Jasmine Dragon. The nightmares left the young avatar exhausted and they didn't seem to go away. No one, not even Katara, Aang's girlfriend knew what was going on. He didn't want to rouble anyone. Then, one night, he had the worst nightmare he'd ever experienced. The Fire Nation soldiers surrounded the Team Avatar. They hten parted, revealing Ozai himself. "You thought you could get rid of me," Ozai said, "And for that, you will pay dearly." Ozai suddenly sent a blast of lightning at Katara. "Nooooo!" Aang shouted, trying to jump in front of her and shield her, but he was too late. Katara, the love of his life, was stuck right in the heart by the lightning and was instantly killed. "No…" Aang said, "NOOOOO!" Aang woke up sweating and breathing heavily. "It was just a dream," he told himself, "No need to worry, it was just a dream." But it had felt so real. The avatar shuddered as he remembered it. "I need some water," Aang muttered. He untangled from his sheets and tiptoed down the hallway, towards the bathroom. He turned on the faucet and splashed some cold water on his face. He then tiptoed back to his room. He then sat on the edge of his bed, trying to calm himself. He didn't even notice his girlfriend had come in until she said his name. "Aang?" "Katara!" Aang said, surprised, "What are you doing in here?" "I heard you walking in the hallway," she explained, "So I came to make sure you're alright." Aang was silent. "Was it a nightmare," she asked softly. Aang looked at her. "How did you know?" he whispered. Katara smiled. "Because I know you too well." Her smile then turned to a look of concern. "And you look exhausted," she added, "Actually, you have been looking pretty tired for these past few days, so I'm guessing this isn't the first nighmare you've had." Aang sighed. "You want to talk about it?" Katara asked. He shrugged. "It might make you feel better," she added. "Ozai got his bending back," Aang said, "A bunch of Fire Nation soldiers surrounded me, you, SOkka, Suki, Toph, and Zuko. Then Ozai came and told me I'd pay for trying to get rid of him. Then he-" Aang's voice caught in his throat. "Then he shot lightning at you. He…he killed you." Tears ran down his face. "Oh Aang," Katara murmured, pulling him into a fierce hug. "I-I'm sorry for w-waking you up," Aang stammered. "Shhh, it's okay," Katara said, "How about I stay with you until you fall asleep?" Aang looked up at her, his eyes still moist with tears. "You'd do that for me?" he asked. "Of course," Katara replied, "I'd do anything for you Aang." She then helped Aang lay down and crawled under the covers with him, laying her head on his chest. She listened to his heartbeat as he fell asleep, finally at peace with the one he loved. After a little while, Katara kissed him on his arrow, whispering "Goodnight sweetie. I love you." She then quietly got out of the bed and slipped out of Aang's room, going to her own. She yawned sleepily and crawled into her own bed, falling asleep almost the minute her head hit the pillow.
