Ultra late update because our internet crashed. :( I was in the middle of saving my work when it crashed so I had to do it all over again. Then I had a really busy week. Full of tests and activities. Sorry but please do enjoy! :)
A small beep! escaped when he pressed the button on his phone. A series of clicks followed, signaling it was time for Ian to move. He quickly stood up. Amy and the others where already on their feet with surprised on their faces but he knew they had doubt deep inside. He knew it would be hard for them to believe him this time but he hoped what he just did was enough for them to trust him for this moment. Because he's really going to need their help for his plan to work out. He looked them in the eye. It's all up to them now if they're going to play along or not. He nodded to them and turned around, taking his dart gun out. He was faced with the shocked faces of Isabel, Vikram and Natalie.
Steady. Aim. Fire. A split second after he fired, the alarm went off. He saw their eyes grew wide. He fired again. He wasn't sure who he shot but he knew it was his parents somehow because they were bigger. One more. He only needed one more shot and his plan would work. He moved his hand to aim but he couldn't find his target. Damn! Of course, Natalie, always so fast. He felt the ground rumble under his feet. Not much time now. He noticed Hamilton and Jake standing over the unconscious Kabras. Dan was walking around the dome probably trying to find something. He stood up with hands on his waist. "Guys! Have you seen any secret compartment around here with all those emergency stuff?" Ian frowned. How did he know?
Ian pointed at the main entrance. "Dan! Beside the big door! Knock three times on the panel." he shouted over the alarm.
Dan ran towards the said spot and knocked three tines. The panel suddenly fell off and an orange pack came out. He opened it and a lifeboat sprang to life. "Come on, guys!" he shouted across the big room. Hamilton and Jake ran towards him with confused looks on their faces.
Jake raised an eyebrow. "A lifeboat. Seriously?"
"What's that for?" Hamilton asked.
At the same time, a rumble echoed across the dome. Then suddenly water started to flow through one of the many doors. "That." Dan pointed.
Hamilton's eyes widened. "How-"
Ian's eyes widened in realization. "Amy." Of course, it had to be her. She did have the serum in her system meaning she still has the ability to process things fast. Where was she... Oh, shit! He felt the cold water, already touching his ankles. The water's rising fast considering the size of the compound. Just a few more minutes and the compound would be submerged underwater. Then he heard three long beeps. Bingo! Now he knows where Natalie is. The doors started to close one by one except for one particular door. He programmed that door so that it wouldn't be closed that easily. Actually he already programmed all the doors that would cross their path to freedom. But now that one of them is missing, he wasn't so confident of his plan anymore but it would still work. All that matters now is timing.
He shook his head. Water splashed on his suit when he knelt beside his father. He reached under his suit. He knew Vikram would always be ready. Actually both of them would but touching his mother just made him feel uncomfortable. Then his hand finally found his father's gun. He took it out. "Get on the lifeboat!" he said as he ran towards the door. The water was about to reach his knees making it a bit hard to move but he managed. He pointed the gun at the glass doors, aiming it only one section. He emptied the gun at that one section.
"Hey!" Dan shouted.
Hamilton grabbed Ian's shoulders. "What are you doing?"
"Shooting." Ian replied nonchalantly. He threw the empty gun away. The glass was still standing though. Of course, the Vespers always wanted the best so this glass is actually one of the strongest in the world. The bullets weren't able to break the glass but Ian calculated it's enough to weaken it. Weak enough for him to break it. He took in a deep breath and punched at the weakened spot. A crack was heard.
"Are you crazy!?" Jake shouted.
Hamilton pulled Ian away. "What's your problem!?"
Ian shook Hamilton off and prepared himself for another punch, ignoring the pain he felt. He punched. This time the glass broke. He knew his hand was ruined but he didn't care. He had better things to think about. He stood there waiting for that big rumble to come. The three Cahills were bombarding him with questions but he ignored them and listened for that rumble instead. Time was what he needed but time was running out and he needed to do this to convince them to go. Then the big rumble he waited for came. Five seconds. As as five seconds passed, water came rushing in the dome quickly filling the room.
"Go!" Ian told them.
"Where's Amy?" Jake asked.
Ian rolled his eyes. That's why he doesn't want to talk with normal people. Always so slow. "Somewhere, of course. Now just go!" The water was now slowly rising above their knee.
"How do we know we can trust you?" Jake shouted with a hint of anger. Ian's jaw tensed. He knew Jake never really liked him. Ian never really minded but now's not the time to question him. "You already tricked us many times. And you expect us to just trust you again right now!?" Jake was infuriated.
"Stop it, will you?" he said quite calmly as he walked, stopping in front of Jake and looking him in the eye. "Do you really think now's the time to tell me that? Do you think I do not know that?" That made Jake stop. He could see Ian's face passive and cold as always but his eyes flared yellow like flames. "Go." Ian said. Then he watched his back disappear around the corner.
Ian left the dome satisfied. Even though he knew he was risking his life but at least he already saved three people. It is better than none. Well even if they didn't listen he would still go and find her. She was Amy after all.
Ian ran as fast as he could. He was wet already with the water still rising. The water here was lower actually compared to the level in the dome but it's still hard to run. He knew where Natalie was. Obviously in the control room. Who else would close the doors in the dome? She would most probably be decoding the bug he planted for that one door. It was going to take her about six to seven minutes unless Amy tried to stop her which was most probable.
At the same, he heard a grunt coming from the end of the hallway. He ran faster. He took his dart gun out. The darts were dipped in poison. It's for immobilizing the nanogenes that keeps the serum particles flowing through their systems. It would inflict a sharp pain but it was not enough to kill. He checked the darts he had left. Three darts. That's enough, he hoped.
The door of the control room was opened. There went the banging-the-door-open plan but of course there's a back-up plan. As he got closer, the shouts and grunts became louder.
"AAAARRGGGHH!" It came from inside. They were fighting alright. He gripped the gun handle tight. He rounded up the corner and leaned flat against the wall. When he stopped, he suddenly remembered the water. It was reaching his thighs already. Another grunt came from inside. He could see their shadows grappling and wrestling. Without wasting another second, he shouted a short but loud 'Hey!' and aimed the gun at Natalie.
What was he doing? Amy watched as Ian stand up with a dart gun in his hand. Then the alarm went off. Everything slowed down. She looked around the dome. That alarm meant something, of course. There should be something here that would tell her what it was.
She noticed beside one of the doors was a panel. She couldn't read the rest of the test but one word was clear in bright red. WATER. Her mind flashed back to their first visit here where they were carried by the strong currents of the labyrinth's waters. At the same time, she saw Natalie running away while Ian was still shooting at both of his parents. Time returned to normal. She saw Dan beside her. "Dan, go find a lifeboat. Look at the walls or something." she said and ran off.
"What?" She heard Dan shout but she was already at the door. No time to answer so she just ran. She could see Natalie in front of her. She tried not to be so close and to be as quiet as possible. While she was still tailing Natalie, water started to come from the dome, Amy presumed. They don't have much time. She heard Natalie curse up ahead followed by a series of splashes. Amy continued to follow her. When Amy turned at a corner, she was surprised to see the hallway empty. She heard another curse. She frowned then realized there was an open door beside her. Inside was Natalie on a chair while typing furiously on the keyboard.
Amy could see a series of codes on the screen. Whatever she's doing Amy knows she needs to stop her. She slowly made her way behind her sitting form. Just when she was only a few feet away, Natalie turned. Without a word, Amy lunged at her. Natalie dodged easily. Amy grabbed the chair and threw it at her but Natalie caught it and flung it back. Amy sidestepped. She almost forgot her enemy was not normal. Amy saw Natalie take something shiny out of her pocket. "AAAARRGGGHH!" Natalie shouted as she lunged at her again. When Natalie was only a feet close, Amy realized she was holding a knife so she tried to dodge the attack. She felt a sharp pain on her arm. Natalie was slashing her with the knife. Amy tried to keep up with her movements. She wasn't fast enough compared to the experienced fighter she was fighting, earning her a few cuts on her body.
They continued like that. Natalie swaying her knife while Amy took on a defensive role. Amy felt her breaths became shallow. Her body was starting to ache but she can't stop. Amy could feel Natalie's frustration growing with each attack. Her movements became faster and stronger. It was so fast her hands were a blur to Amy's eyes. This time Natalie held the knife backwards. She stabbed Amy but Amy managed to jump back. At the same time, she landed on something uneven causing her to fall on her back.
Seeing the opportunity, Natalie pounced on her pinning her to the ground but Amy was able to grab her wrists. Natalie may be small but she was strong. Slowly, the knife came closer and closer to her face. Panicking inside, she let her grip loosen and Natalie was able to move one of her hands. Then she felt a powerful blow on her gut. At the same time, her head was dipped into the water that was rising by each second. When her head emerged from the water, she had an idea.
With all her strength, she pushed Natalie away then quickly splashed water on her face. Natalie shrieked at the contact of the cold water. This gave Amy time to roll over on her hands and knees, clutching her stomach. Suddenly, she heard a loud "Hey!" somewhere in front of her. She looked up and saw him. Their eyes met. She noticed his eyes widened then she felt excruciating pain down her abdomen. She looked down and saw the tip of a knife protruding through her belly. She looked back up to him. Golden yellow eyes. The knife. It was just like her dream. Then she blacked out.
I feel bad for asking you to enjoy especially the last part. :P

*I remembered how fun it was to write action scenes. I should write more of them next time...
