Rapunzel skipped a few steps, giggling happily at the sight of the kingdom. A couple feet ahead, our invisible guardians stepped along the brick floor, looking around and examining the new kingdom. Well, new for Amy.
For Art, she was smiling, looking around the kingdom that still felt so much like home. "I forgot how beautiful this place can be when they're celebrating her birthday." She stopped when she spotted a wanted poster of Flynn Rider, with an obviously terribly drawn nose, and frowned. "He really made name for himself…" She sighed, crossing her arms.
Amy noticed the frown and couldn't help but feel like there was something deeper going on. Curse Rogue and getting his cheesy crap stuck in her head. "...You knew him didn't you?"
Art sighed, playing with the handle of her sword. "…He was my brother…well…adopted brother."
Amy eyes widened a bit. "Were you like his guardian?"
"…When I was brought back I had friends from my past. Thomas, his wife Ellie and their daughter Melody. They took care of me and time went by and…they died. I didn't. I stayed the same and so…I traveled a lot. Looking to see if I had a family looking for me or people like me and one day…I came here. Princess Rapunzel has just been kidnapped and one day her parents hired me to make the mural of the lost princess. One day, I saved a little boy being chased my guards from stealing some food…Eugene Fitzherbert."
Amy was staring with wide eyes the entire time. "So...were Eugene and Flynn friends or something?"
"His real name is Eugene. An orphan boy…and…after I saved him I kinda scolded him for stealing and then we ate lunch together. We got along really well and I finished the mural but I stayed here for about ten years. He would sneak out of the orphanage to see me and we would do…anything. How do you think he escaped so well?" She smiled and giggled at that. "…he changed me. After Thomas and his family I…I shut people out. I didn't want to be friends or care about anyone because I didn't want to get hurt but meeting Eugene…he's the reason I am who I am today."
Amy frowned. "What happen?"
"…I left. I…I wanted him to find a family and then one day he told me…to find mine. He said that I spent so many years with him and that maybe my family was looking for me so…I left. The next year I came back…and I couldn't find Eugene. He was gone." She sighed and rubbed her face. "He is the real reason why I wanted to come here…I…I hope that…I could find him"
Amy smiled wide, optimism turned back on. "You did. And hey! Maybe they'll make a family!" She giggled childishly.
Art laughed. "Isn't that a bit too soon? They just meet. And besides he's like 26 years old and
she's about 18…then again that not too strange during these times."
"True. Damn though…he's too old for me then."
"Ok first. Rogue! And second probably 99.8 percent of the male population is younger than you."
"Well I meant my frozen age but yeah." She laughed and sat on the edge of the water fountain, watching the four little ginger girls twist Rapunzel's ridiculously long hair into an intricate braid.
"What's your frozen age? Mine is 18." Art asked curiously.
"19."
Art smiled with acknowledgement, looking back at Rapunzel and squealing, "Oh my god! Her hair looks so beautiful!" She clapped her hands together with excitement and hovered a bit.
Amy laughed. "I think Eugene agrees with you too."
Art looked at Eugene and laughed as he smiled at Rapunzel and shoved Max's face away pretending like it never happened.
"It's so sweet…I wonder if Rouge looks at me like that." Amy smiled dreamily, blushing a bit.
"Oh I'm pretty sure he does…just not when you notice."
"Maybe..."
"Oh! I forgot I wanted to show you something!" Art grabbed her friend's hand and pulled her to the mural that she created long ago of the King and Queen of Corona with their newborn daughter Rapunzel.
"Whoa…it's beautiful." Smiling staring at it.
"Thanks! I had a lot of fun doing this!"
"It looks just like she would have…"
"Yeah…one thing left now."
"What's that?"
"How do we get her to see that she the lost princess and that her real parents are only a few feet away."
"Maybe she just needs to see the lanterns in person…"
Art nodded. She backed away when Rapunzel started walking forward and looked at her. She held her hands together hoping that maybe she would realize the truth and see she's the baby and the lost princess. Suddenly a little bit of music started playing and the princess left to go dance causing Art to groan. "She was so close…" She sighed. Her eyes lit up as an idea came to mind and she started floating in the air. She gathered her talent dust, a soft silky shade of indigo, and spread it around everyone in the center. "Amy! Round up couples to dance!"
"Um okay!" She flew around creating gusts of wind that knocked people together who began happily dancing. She nudged Maximus who hit Eugene and knocked him into the ring of dancers, being dragged off.
Art laughed and landed on the ground next to Amy, clapping her hands to the music and smiled widely as Eugene and Rapunzel reached out to barely graze finger tips.
Amy smiled, giggling. "It's working! They almost touched!"
Art smiled and laughed, taking Amy's hand and pulled her to dance. Amy smiled, having an amazing time with her new best friend. She kind of wished Rogue was there to dance with her. Art giggling as she twirled Amy and gets a glimpse of Eugene and Rapunzel holding hands and looking at each other smiling.
Soon, all of the villagers went to take a good spot to sit at for a view of the lanterns. There were a handful and then some on ships anchored in the water. There were the unique unlikely couple sitting across from one another on a small row boat on the ocean's surface. And then there were the two girls sitting on a rooftop near by.
Amy wrapped her arms around her knees, pulling them close to her chest and watched the water's soft ripples.
"Any minute now, Amy."
Back at the castle, a king and queen held back tears as they let the first paper lantern illuminate the sky. Soon after, the entire village lit their lanterns and released them in the breeze of the evening.
Art smiled, sighing happily. "Still as beautiful as it always is…I just wish-"
"That Bunny was here?"
Art blushed lightly. "Yeah…and you wish Rogue was here too?"
"Yeah I think he'd love it."
Art smiled and stared at Rapunzel and Eugene. "Yeah…and would you look at them…"
"They're so in love…" Amy readied a simple practice arrow and shot it up, hitting the King's lantern letting it fall so Rapunzel could reach out for it. When she looked back, he took her hand and began to sing. She smiled, resting her head on her knees while wrapping her arms around them.
Art smiled at them. "I don't think I've ever seen him so happy before…"
Amy smiled, "For a thief he's got a good voice." She laughed then sighed. "I wonder if Rogue would ever sing to me…"
"If Rouge thinks about you in any verse, I'm pretty sure it's in Shakespeare. 'Where Art Thou Amy'" She started laughing hard.
"Oh shut up, he does not!" She laughed. Amy looked back out and spotted Eugene pushing a strand of Rapunzel's hair back, leaning in slowly. "They're gonna kiss!"
Art's eyes went wide, smiling brightly, hands to her mouth to contain an excited squeal.
Amy nudged her just as Eugene hesitated in the kiss. "What's that green light over there...?"
