Jake swore he heard a cry, a girl's cry. He was convinced it came from Amy but when he checked she was still sleeping.
He was sure he woke up to the cry of a girl or maybe it was just his mind playing tricks in ways, it didn't really matter because what mattered was that Amy's still sleeping. He refused to call it 'being in a coma'. It made things harder for him so he thought maybe calling it 'sleeping' would be better and it did make things a bit better. Yet he still feels bad knowing that there's nothing he could do but only hope that one day she would wake up. If only life were like those Disney fairy tales, then a true love's kiss would solve everything.
True love's kiss
Ask him and he would answer immediately. Yes, he loved Amy Cahill. He was certain. 100% sure. He loved her but that was nothing because he didn't know. He didn't know what she felt about him. He was not sure if she felt things the same way he does when they were together. Sometimes, he could see her hesitation when they were together. It was like something's holding her back. Maybe it was because she's afraid, afraid of getting hurt. Or maybe it's because she loves him. He truly hoped it's not the latter.
Another thing. Him. The Jackass with a capital J. Ian Kabra. The guy was a total idiot. He was totally inconsiderate of everyone. Everyone especially her. He left her so many times. He was aware of their history, him and Amy, even before the prom incident. He was aware of what happened between them and what he did to her. And it's really hard to forgive him for that.
Well, maybe he didn't have the right to say that but as a friend he wouldn't let him hurt her again. Not as long as he's still there's only one question that mattered to Jake. One question that would answer every other question he has in his mind about her. Does she love him?

Jake quickly turned around and saw Atticus stepping into the room. Atticus slowly walked towards his brother. His heart hammered in his chest as his hands became sweaty. He gulped and took a deep breath in. He's going to do this. He's got to. Though if he didn't Jake would still know anyway but it would be better if he stick to the plan. This is it.
Jake glanced at Atticus when he stood beside him by Amy's bed. He tried to ignore it but he knows the kid's all tensed up and hiding something from him. His face says it all but he wouldn't force Atticus to tell him if he doesn't want to.
"How's school?" Jake simply asked.
He heard no reply and Jake asked again, a bit confused. "Huh? Oh, fine... It was fine." Atticus said shakily.
"Oh, okay." Jake said.
Atticus tried hard not to collapse from the stress he's having. All he needed to do was say three words. All it took was three words yet three words were really not enough. If he only said three words, it would be a disaster. He himself doesn't understand why he's feeling nervous. Maybe it's because he's already got an idea on what Jake's reaction would be and he hoped it won't be that... violent. On the count of five, he tells himself. On. Two. He groaned mentally. Or maybe he did groan out loud because Jake was looking at him now. Atticus sighed. Might as well get over it.
"Uh..."
Jake just looked at him.
"There's something..." His voice trailed off.
"What?" Jake asked.
"I..." Then Atticus lost his voice again.
"What? I don't get it." Jake frowned. He frowned more when Atticus continued to mutter. "Atticus! Just tell me!"
All of a sudden Atticus just blurted it out. "Ian's back."
Atticus watched as the news crashed down on his brother. Uneasy and shocked, he just stared at Atticus. After a few more minutes of staring, Atticus became worried. Just as he was about to open his mouth, he was left alone in the room with the sound of Jake running.
"So he's back?" Sinead asked, still shocked at the news.
"How many times do I need to repeat myself, Sinead?" Fiske sighed. "Yes, he's back."
"Okay..." Sinead said. "But why did he have to leave?"
"Because, Sinead, he needed to do something." Fiske stated.
Sinead's eyes widened. "What? That's not an answer!"
"It is. It answered the question, didn't it?"
"Oh, come on, Fiske. You know what I mean." Sinead argued.
Fiske just continued to arrange his papers a, signing here and there. Sinead placed his hands on her waist.
"Come on, tell me, Fiske. I know you're just too lazy to repeat what you will say to the others." Sinead said.
At that statement, Fiske froze. His face grew red with embarrassment. Sinead smirked. Bingo!
Fiske cleared his throat. "It was he who asked to be on the field." he said as he glared at Sinead. He can't believe she got him to tell her before the others. He was supposed to be fair to them. It's not because he was lazy.
"The mission?" Sinead asked, still smirking.
Fiske rolled his eyes. "To find Natalie."
Sensing the importance of the topic, Sinead's smirk vanished immediately. "And?"
Fiske shook his head. After that Sinead made her way to the couch and sat down. She waited for her heart to calm down a bit before continuing to ask questions.
"Where is he now?"
"I don't know." Fiske replied.
Sinead shook her head. "He must be going there... but Jake's there..."
Fiske sighed. "Jake is already taken care of. He's most probably on his way."
At the same time, the door opened and a shout was heard. "BASTARD!" Jake Rosenbloom stormed in. He noticed that Ian Kabra was nowhere to be found. He looked at Fiske. "Where is he?"
"Please calm down, Jake." Fiske said.
Jake scoffed. His face was red with anger. His ears were the same shade. His hands were curled into fists. Sinead has never seen Jake this angry. "Where is he?" Jake repeated.
Understanding Fiske's plan, Sinead decided to join in. "Jake, calm down, will you?"
"I don't f*cking care! Where is he!?"
Fiske and Sinead shared a look. It was really rare to hear Jake curse so it meant he wouldn't stop until he got what he wanted. "In his apartment." Fiske finally replied.
With that, Jake was gone. Sinead raised her eyebrow at Fiske. "What gives? I though you wanted to hold him off?"
"I can't have him making a mess in my office. Maybe in some other place but not in my office."
"You do realize he's going to get to the infirmary at some point and who know what might happen if he finds him there?"
Fiske sighed. "Well, let's just hope he's going to take a while and he's going to be fast."
He quietly sneaked to the open door. He flattened his back against the wall, waiting for any sound or voice. No one was inside then. He was now standing by the door frame. He wasn't inside the room yet. Not until he's going to lift his foot for one step and for some strange reason he can't get himself to do it.
He can see the bed. He can see a glimpse of her limp body. His heart ached. Guilt settled in his heart. He knows it's his fault. He knows if it wasn't for him this wouldn't have happened. He tried to pay for his crimes by getting them out of the Vesper compound but the damage has been done. She was hurt and so was he. She was in a coma of physicality and he was in a coma of guilt.
He decides to push them away for this moment because what really matters here is her. A part of him wants to run away and get away as far as possible because danger is all that he is. Yet a part of him wants to stay and take all the bullets. Why? Because she's there. And again, it all boils down to choosing his mind or his heart. But he has already learned his lesson so he took a step forward. He's not gonna stop. He continued until Amy's body was in view. She looked worse than before he left. She looked paler and frailer to him. He had to force himself to start walking again since he stopped midway to look at her.
He just stood there and looked at her, taking her image in his mind. Then he looked around the room. Bags on the floor. Plastic containers in the trash can. A blanket was on the floor next to the couch. Looks like someone was in a hurry to get up. Ian shrugged. He knew who it probably was. That reminds him that he didn't have much time. He drew his eyes back to the bed. Something caught his attention. A machine was beside Amy's bed. It was a respirator machine though it wasn't connected to her body.
Then things came to him simultaneously. She's got food tubes and IVs on her arm. Her chest was almost not moving. He also noticed her position was the same before he left. It hit him. His heart shattered. She was in a coma.
With shaking hands, he brushed his hand on her arm. He gulped. He was afraid he might wake her up but then again he knew she wasn't going to. He breathed out a shaky sigh. Tears stung his eyes but it's not going to fall. It's won't fall. He reached for her again. He held her hand in his. He placed a small light kiss on her knuckles just like he did before he left.
He felt someone pulled him away from her then a punch to his cheek. He grunted. He was caught off guard so it took a while for him to recover Though he was fairly sure who it was. Obviously. Who would be this angry and racy? There he was Jake Rosenbloom.
"You shouldn't have come here." Jake spat like speaking to him was poison on his mouth. Maybe it was.
"I think that's for me to decide." Ian said coolly.
Ian could see that Jake was trying hard not to punch him again.
"You should've stayed away from here." Jake continued.
"Well, that's also for me to decide." Ian countered.
Jake closed his eyes as he inhaled sharply through his nose. Ian couldn't help but smirk. He could see that Jake's on the edge of the cliff. He finds it somewhat amusing. Ian watched as Jake's shoulders relaxed and he opened his eyes.
Jake glared at him. "Stay away from her."
"Hmm.." Ian hummed.
"Don't talk to her."
Ian nodded sarcastically.
"Don't touch her."
"Not her boyfriend." Ian chirped.
At that, Jake lunged and grabbed Ian's shirt. He stared at his eyes. Ian understood. This is not a game anymore. This is war. "Look, I only agreed to let you go with them because Fiske said so. If only I knew you were a traitor, then I would have disposed of you a long time ago."
"Ooh, dispose. Nice word." Ian commented.
Jake shook Ian. "Stop playing games with me." Ian just stared back blankly. Jake tightened his grip on Ian's shirt and pulled him closer. "I'm sick and tired of this silly games. I know what happened between you and Amy. I know what you did. I know everything."
Ian perked up. I know everything. Jake's words echoed in his mind. Anger started to boil inside Ian while Jake continued."You had your chance and you lost it. So don't go acting like she's going to give you another chance because she won't. After all the things you've done to her, I'm sure she won't-"
Jake's words faded into a blur to Ian. Anger rose inside him. His hands clenched tightly into fists. He dug his nails on his palms trying to ease his anger but it was all too much. He still had the nanogenes inside him and it was certainly not helping. In fact, it's excited along with his anger. He doesn't want to hurt Jake but the guys way over the top... Until he felt a hand on his wrist. His eyes widened. Jake was too preoccupied with him to do that. No one else was in the room besides them. So the only person who could have done that was... He looked to his side. His heart skipped a beat.
"I'm talking! Don't-" Jake's voice trailed off as he realized what caught Ian's attention.
They were both staring into the green eyes of Amy Cahill.
Dan came running in, breathless. "What happened?"
"Everyone's here?" the doctor asked. "Yes? Okay. So Ms. Amy Chaill woke up at around noon time. She's normal. No complications whatsoever. I believe her body's fully healed. She might need therapy though it will only last a day or two because her condition is pretty impressive. I'm thinking it must be the serum that helped her through this stage before it completely dissolved."
Jake was oblivious to Fiske, Dan and Sinead's conversation with the doctor. All he could think of was Amy. The nurses were checking her vitals and asking her questions to which she answered obediently. Her waking up was completely out of the blue. He felt kind of embarrassed because he just realized she heard everything he said to Ian.
And that Ian. He left as soon as the doctors came rushing in but Jake couldn't forget the words he said to him.
Their heated argument had been forgotten as doctors and nurses suddenly came rushing in. All they could do was watch as the doctor and nurses attended to Amy. And Amy was too busy to notice the two men who had been fighting because of her. Ian who was standing by the window decided to leave. He passed by Jake who was following his every move. Before he left, he gripped Jake's arm and whispered to him.
"You don't know anything about me. You don't know anything about us."
Jake felt his anger faded but it was still there. Though a drop of guilt joined in. Maybe he was a bit over with Ian. Maybe there were some things that were better off unsaid. He sighed as he watched Ian ride the elevator at the end of the floor. He shook his head. He's going to have to call Dan and Sinead first.
Jake knew Amy woke up because of their argument but a part of him tells him it wasn't. A part of him believed it was because they were fighting and Amy didn't want them to fight. Yet another part of him told him it wasn't. That bigger part of him told him it was because of a certain someone that wasn't him and he's also starting to believe it.
