Star vs the Internet
Hello, this is my first fanfic. This is probably quite bad compared to other fanfics but I hope this will improve in the future. I am open to any criticism. Anyway, here is the story.
It had been a regular day for Marco and Star. They hadn't gone on any adventures and it was relaxed Friday evening. Neither of them had any plans, so they were chilling at home. Marco, was on his trusty laptop surfing the web. Until Star came into the room. She looked at the mysterious metallic block which was on Marco's desk.
"Hey Star, perhaps try knocking on the door next time" said Marco. Afterall, Star usually did barge into whatever he was doing.
Star went towards Marco
"What's that" She pointed towards the device
"What's what?" Marco replied, "the laptop?"
"Well, what is it? Whatever it is, it isn't on Mewni" Star said. "Is it magic? I thought there was no magic on earth?"
"No, Star, it like the lights it is not magic. It is just a computer." Marco replied.
"Well you have to inform me what it is… " Star said, her curiosity only increasing "and what are you doing on it?"
"I am just on the internet, afterall there is nothing else to do." Marco said
"The internet?" Star questioned
"How did I forget you don't have this on Mewni, yes the internet. Think of it as an entire library but connected all around the world! It has almost everything" Marco replied
"Everything…" Star thought
"Heck it probably has my address somewhere on it" Marco said, thinking of Janna who probably has doxxed Marco at some point.
"Well… can I try?" Star said
"Sure I guess" Marco then handed her the PC
Star just looked at the screen. All she can see was the words "GOOGLE" with a long rectangle below it.
"Marco, I don't know how to use this dummy!" Star told Marco
"Oh yeah, sorry, you just click this rectangle and with this keyboard you just type what you want to search." Marco replied
"Hmm, ok doesn't seem too difficult" Star proceeded to smash the keyboard blurting out gibberish into google. Marco only looked unsurprised.
"Before you end up breaking it, why don't you tell me what to search instead" Marco insisted
"Yeah… I will just see what you do. Anyway… if it has everything… search 'Mewni' " Star replied
Marco, knowing that nothing would come up, searched it up. And as expected, nothing did.
"Ye… it has everything, on earth" Marco said
"Oh right… then um. Try 'Star Butterfly'"
Marco then searched Star up. To his surprise, there was quite a bit. A lot of local news articles however not anything more. He then scrolled down and found something interesting.
"Well I didn't expect this" Marco found that Star was actually quite popular in the local news. Thankfully, it didn't national or global. Who knew what dangers they could face if it did. It wouldn't be anything close to the adventures Marco and Star go on but Earth was their home.
"So am I famous!" Star said
"Well, I wouldn't say you're famous but you are out there. Anyway, if you want to see the internet's culture you got to see something called 'social media' it's hard to explain but you will understand" Marco then went onto Reddit (definitely the best first place to go on the internet).
Star looked at the screen to be greeted with an extremely pixelated image with a caption only saying "E". She looked at confused.
"You know, some of the things here I also don't get" Marco said, understand the confused look on Star's face "Many people find this funny, why? No one would ever know!"
"But I thought the internet had everything? Can't you just search it up?" Star questioned
"Well the internet doesn't actually have everything, but it has most things." Marco replied "Anyway I've got to go help my mom for dinner"
He then left Star with the PC. He didn't think much of it but he is gone now
Star was left in the room with the PC. She now knows how to navigate the internet, but where to start! Star scrolled down this "reddit" but then saw the words in red say 'NSFW'. Star eventually clicked it, biggest mistake she has made so far. She blushed heavily and quickly closed the tab. "Marco is into that stuff? Well I wonder what else Marco is hiding…"
Star then went back onto google. She had the internet entirely to herself. Perhaps she could find a funny video for Marco to see. Perhaps then Star can be trusted to use this 'internet' and get used to it. She reluctantly went back onto reddit after that unexpected post. She noticed that Marco had a few 'unread messages'. She clicked on it and was greeted with a few hate comments.
Star looked clicked on it and it seems that Marco was in an online argument. "No way Marco is wrong here! He knows the internet of course he can't be wrong"
Star then proceeded to write a reply back. "There! Marco would definitely proud of me!" Star had just written a bunch of gibberish on it as she doesn't fully understand how to use the keyboard. She started to browse further. In the bottom-right corner a message came up. It was from Janna.
The curious princess clicked on it. It seems like Janna had doxxed Marco.
"So the internet does have everything!".
Star then went back onto google. She seemed to be learning how to type on the keyboard after some practise. She wanted to learn a little bit more about Marco. Perhaps the "internet" had something. She then typed 'MARCO DIAZ'. It displayed all of his online accounts like Twitter, Instagram and a few more. She clicked on one of them. And to be greeted by something she would never had expected...
