I combined Kamen Rider with a flash game I like. If that's not random, then what is?
Chapter 1
A woman and her child ran down the poorly lit street, pursued by medium-sized beasts that could only be described as hellhounds made of ink. As they ran, one of the creatures managed to bite down on the woman's purple scarf. The scarf instantly turned black and took on the same inky look as the hounds, prompting the woman to tear it off in horror. The humans turned into an alley only to find that it was a dead end. They shuddered and waited for the final blow. The beasts lunged.
Their screams attracted the attention of a figure in an armored suit. Getting to the entrance of the alley, he saw the two victims underneath the hounds, their skin black and bubbling. The shadowy substance enveloped them entirely, transforming them into a pair of humanoid abominations. The armored individual slowly clenched his fists before charging at the monsters.
Line Break
A thin young man rode down the street on a motorcycle. His outfit was a simple red long-sleeved shirt and long pants. As he drove, he noted how few people were around. Hardly a surprise, considering the cries of monsters could be heard in the distance, not to mention how many buildings had large black spots on them, some of which were growing tentacles.
"I'll need a place to settle down for the night," he said to himself. Given how desolate the neighborhood looked, he figured he could probably crash in an empty house or hotel without attracting any attention. He steered toward a nearby house and parked his bike in the garage. He took off his helmet, revealing short black hair and a youthful face. He had hoped there wouldn't be any unexpected surprises but, unfortunately, he was wrong.
"YAAAAAAHH!"
Hearing a voice coming at him from the side, he lashed out with a kick, nailing the offender in the gut and knocking him to the floor. Said offender was a few years younger than him, perhaps nineteen. He had spiky black hair and wore jeans and a T-shirt under a brown jacket.
"Oh, you're a person." The man on the floor sighed in relief. "I thought you were a Void."
The motorcycle rider folded his arms, giving him a blank look "And you thought a butcher knife would be any help fighting a Void?"
"…It was all I had, okay?" The young man pouted as he got up and introduced himself, "I'm Ranji Nakatomi."
"Ryo Taro," the motorcycle rider replied with a nod. "I've been looking for the source of the Void."
"What?! Why would you be looking for something like that?" Ranji asked in shock. "Nobody can stop the Void! Nothing seems to hurt them!"
Ryo smiled. "I've got a secret weapon. But first, I need to find a place to crash."
Before he could walk away, Ranji made an offer. "Wait, if you need a place to stay, why not stay here?"
"Why would you offer me that? You don't even know me."
"You just said you have a weapon to defeat the Void," the younger man replied ecstatically. "If you're telling the truth, then I'll help however I can! You need my house? It's yours. You need my jacket?"
"Um, no?"
"It's yours!" he said, taking off his jacket. "You need my car?"
"No."
Ranji chuckled. "Good, because I don't have one."
Before the conversation could progress any further, the two of them heard windows breaking.
"Damn, they must've realized someone was actually in here!" Ranji panicked.
Ryo gestured for his acquaintance to follow as he dashed out the door. Starting up his motorcycle, he called out, "Hop on and hang on tight!"
"You said you had a secret weapon!" Ranji said as they sped down the road. "Why didn't you use it back there?"
"In a cramped house like that, if I'd tried to fight, it would have put you in danger," Ryo explained. Suddenly, something occurred to him. "Speaking of which, why are you even here? Almost everyone else seems to have up and gone."
"That's because everyone has gone," his passenger replied. "When the Void attacked this place, nobody could stop them, so everyone ran. There are still a few thousand people left in the city, though. The Void managed to fence at least some of us in."
Processing that information, Ryo wondered, "Do you know anywhere else we can stay?"
"Not sure. We'll just have to look around," Ranji replied.
Seeing that no Void were around, Ryo stopped his motorcycle and he and his passenger dismounted. "Let's look around for a safe place to hide out."
He began walking away before noticing that Ranji was following him. When he looked back, the young man said, "Maybe we should stick together?"
Shrugging, Ryo approached a house at random and peeked through a window. Not seeing anyone inside, he checked to find that the door was unlocked.
"This had better not turn out like the last house I visited," he said dryly.
"But the last house you visited was mine—" Ranji pointed out before realizing what he meant. "Oooh, right."
After checking around, the two confirmed that there was definitely no one else in the house. Once they did, Ranji had a suggestion.
"Let's take turns sleeping. That way, we won't get caught off guard during the night."
His companion nodded at the suggestion and settled down on a nearby couch.
Ranji sighed. "I guess that means I'm taking first watch."
The next morning, the duo woke to the sound of their stomachs growling and searched the kitchen for something edible.
"Hey, I found some rice!" Ranji called out from the pantry.
Ryo came over to find that his acquaintance was already eating a handful of the dry grains. Taken aback, he asked, "Um, were you going to cook that?"
The younger man thought about that for a moment before shrugging. "Tastes fine either way."
Sighing, Ryo grabbed the bag from Ranji, determined to make a proper breakfast for them.
"So, how do you intend to find the source of the Void?" Ranji asked as Ryo boiled the rice.
"Unfortunately, I have no idea," Ryo replied. "There's nothing to indicate which building they might be housed in, and none of the Void I've fought so far seem smart enough to give me information. Do you know any spots the Void frequent? That could be a clue as to where they came from."
"But what if they came from another country altogether?" Ranji wondered.
Ryo shook his head. "I thought about that and investigated Void presence in several other countries. None of the ones I looked at have reported any Void attacks. Plus, besides Chiba, no other prefectures in Japan have reported any either. That means the Void invasion had to have started here in Tokyo." As he finished explaining, he noticed that Ranji had zoned out.
The younger man quickly woke himself up.
"Uh, yes!" he said, failing to act like he was listening. "Hey, there's something I've been wondering."
"What is it?" Ryo asked.
"Once in a while, while hiding out, I'd spot the Void attacking someone who couldn't get away in time. When the monsters got to them, the victim would turn all black and—" Ranji paused, trying to find the right word. "…gooey. Do you know anything about that?"
Ryo nodded. "The Void stole their colors." Seeing Ranji's confused look, he went on. "I don't know exactly how they do it, but it causes people to transform into the Void."
After they finished eating, Ryo got up and made for the door. As he began riding off on his motorcycle, he realized Ranji was sitting behind him.
"When did you get on?"
"Don't make me stay alone in that house. What if the Void attack again?" Ranji asked.
He got no further response.
After driving for half a mile, they pulled over.
"Why'd we stop?" asked Ranji.
"I thought I saw something in an alley a block back," Ryo replied. After backtracking a bit, the duo peered into the alley to see a small group of Hellhound Void sniffing around.
"Are you sure they can lead us somewhere important?" Ranji whispered.
"All wild animals have their regular haunts," Ryo replied. "And besides, I already told you I have no other leads."
And so the two continued their observations. When the Void began moving out, the pair followed them. The colorless beasts trekked for quite some distance, so far that Ranji began to consider turning back. Suddenly, he felt a sneeze coming on.
Ryo quickly put one hand over his companion's mouth, using the other to hold his nose. A few tense seconds went by before Ranji gave him a thumbs-up. Slowly, Ryo took his hands away—
"ACHOO!"
—only to blow their cover himself. The Void instantly noticed the pair and howled as they advanced toward them.
"This seems like a good time for that secret weapon you mentioned," Ranji said nervously.
Before Ryo could react, he heard gunfire. He and his companion looked up to see a lone young woman rappelling down the wall, firing a pistol. The bullets didn't kill the Void, but they clearly had enough stopping power to push them back a little bit. The woman quickly corralled the two men away from the scene before the Void could right themselves.
Once they were far enough away, she asked, "Are you two okay?"
"We're fine now!" Ranji answered.
The girl nodded as she gestured for them to come with her. "Alright then, follow me."
As they walked, Ryo asked, "So, do you do things like that regularly?"
"I'm more of a hunter than a rescuer," she explained. "When there are civilians, I get them to safety. But if there's no one at risk, then I take out as many of the Void as I can."
Ryo raised an eyebrow. "How would you do that?"
"I have a secret weapon," the girl replied.
"So I'm the only one without a secret weapon," Ranji pouted. He shook it off when a thought occurred to him. "Now that I think about, we haven't got your name. I'm Ranji and this is Ryo."
"Hitomi Kayasa," she answered without looking back.
After a while, they came upon a public park. Making sure the coast was clear, Hitomi placed her hand on the ground, causing a secret passage to open up. She gestured for the two men to follow her. Entering, they found a decent-sized bomb shelter.
"Whoa, nice place," said Ranji.
Ryo simply raised an eyebrow. "Why did you bring us here?"
"I could use some help fighting the Void," Hitomi said. "And you two seem handy."
"Look, you seem nice, but I didn't volunteer to be a sidekick," Ryo said.
Ranji swung his arm over Ryo's shoulder. "Aw, come on, Ryo. With both your secret weapons, we can defeat the Void in no time!"
Shrugging, Hitomi said, "It's no big deal. Although, do you know where to strike at the Void?"
That got Ryo's attention. "You know where they're hiding out?"
"I recently found a spot where they consistently regroup," Hitomi explained. "So, are you on board?"
Ryo thought for a moment before nodding. "When do you plan on doing this?"
"That depends. Can either of you fight?" Hitomi asked as sorted through a shelf.
"Yes," said Ryo at the same time that Ranji said, "No."
The girl sighed and tossed something to each of them. They were combat knives. The blades looked normal, but the handles stood out: on each one was a symbol, a small ring of what looked like train tracks with the front of a locomotive in the middle.
Ranji was in awe as he inspected his knife. "Wow… What are these?"
"They're color knives, a special weapon that can actually hurt the Void," Hitomi explained. "A scientist friend of mine made them when the first ones started attacking."
"Really? Can we meet him?" Ranji asked.
That made Hitomi frown. "No. The Void got to him shortly afterwards."
Ranji stuttered in response, "Oh, uh, sorry."
"Never mind. Anyway, I'll teach you how to use it in no time," Hitomi replied. Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a rubber practice knife and handed it to him. "So you don't put someone's eye out, try coming at me with that."
Holding the practice knife in a reverse grip, Ranji plunged it downward. Hitomi parried the attack and threw a punch, stopping her fist just an inch away from his chin.
"You have a long way to go."
One hour later saw Ranji lying on the floor, moaning in pain. "My everything hurts."
"Come on now. She didn't hit you that hard," Ryo said as he helped him up.
"Once you've recovered, we'll head out," Hitomi said as she deftly disassembled her gun and began to clean it out.
"What?!" Ranji shouted in dismay. "But I only just started training today!"
Eyes still on her gun, Hitomi replied, "You should be fine. The Void don't have the same combat skills as I do. Plus, the hideout I found is small, so there shouldn't be too many for us to handle."
Once she was done, she led the group outside. While Ryo got on his motorcycle, Hitomi and Ranji walked over to a jeep parked nearby.
"Are you going to hotwire this thing?" Ranji asked.
"I don't have to," the girl replied as she started it up. "It's mine."
Ranji raised an eyebrow. "Then why was it just sitting out in the street? Someone might steal it."
"There was no room for it in the shelter," Hitomi responded, keeping her eyes on the road "Plus, the doors are locked, and the windows are bulletproof."
Looking at the window, Ranji tapped the glass. "Nice ride."
The two of them heard a dull thump on the roof of the vehicle.
"Is that normal?" he asked.
Hitomi slammed on the brakes. The jeep jerked to a halt, Ryo stopping beside them and bracing one leg on the ground. Off the roof flew a lanky-looking Void. Hitting the gas once more, Hitomi tried to run the monster over, only for it to stop the jeep with its bare hands. But just as it reached for the passenger side door, Ryo came at it from the side with his color knife, shanking it several times.
As the monster slumped to the ground, Ryo saw the trouble wasn't over yet: multiple Hellhound Void began emerging from the shadows. Hitomi and Ranji exited the jeep and stood back to back with Ryo as they faced down their opponents.
"What do we have here?" a pompous voice asked. From behind the hounds stepped a humanoid Void with spiral markings all over its body.
Ranji gawked. "You guys can talk?!"
"Some of us, yes," the spiral-covered Void responded. "I look forward to draining the color out of you all. Any last words?"
"Now would be a good time to reveal those secret weapons, guys," Ranji whispered.
"Ranji, I think Hitomi's was the knives," Ryo said flatly.
Hitomi butted in, "Actually, they weren't. This is."
With that, she reached down the back of her shirt and pulled out a silver and gray gun. When she pointed it at the Void, Ryo and Ranji saw that it had blaster mode written on the side of the barrel.
The gun let out multicolored blasts of energy when she pulled the trigger, hitting several of the Hellhound Void. The beasts shrieked as they collapsed and melted away, releasing clusters of colorful floating spheres as they died.
The Spiral Void pointed at the trio of humans, shouting, "Get them!"
In response, the remaining hounds began to morph, restructuring themselves until they resembled a bunch of misshapen humanoids. Then, they charged.
Hitomi shot several more of the Void before they got in close. Switching to her knife, she began slicing them as they came at her. Meanwhile, Ranji forgot what little training Hitomi had given him and simply swung his knife around haphazardly, screaming like a maniac. One of the monsters snuck up behind him and restrained him with a bearhug. As Ranji struggled to get free, his jacket began turning black and viscous where it came in contact with the Void.
Fortunately, Hitomi intervened, stabbing the Void before facing her trapped companion.
"Turn around!" she yelled. Ranji obeyed, giving Hitomi a chance to stab the monster in the back. Taking off his infected jacket, Ranji rejoined the battle.
Ryo, on the other hand, was doing fine. What he lacked in fighting skill he made up for in experience. None of the Void that attacked him could get in any blows, too sloppy to catch him as he wove his way through.
In a matter of minutes, all the Void had been killed off…except for one. With a cry of frustration, the Spiral Void charged in at last, kicking Ryo in the gut. Hitomi tried to attack him, but the Void caught her hands and headbutted her in the face. When Ranji rushed at him, he was stopped cold with a hammer fist to the head.
As the three got to their feet, Hitomi shouted, "All together!"
The trio charged at the Void from all sides, knives raised. Right as they closed in, the Spiral Void leaped upward, uppercutting Ranji and escaping the triple attack.
Hitomi moved to attack again but stopped when Ryo put a hand on her shoulder.
"This guy is too strong," he said as he handed her his knife and advanced toward their foe. "I think I've had enough knife practice for today."
"What are you doing?" she asked.
He turned back to her with a grin. "Using my secret weapon."
With that, he made a small series of hand signs, causing a belt with a color wheel to appear on his waist. The belt was divided into red, yellow, and blue thirds, with the red section on top.
"Henshin," he said, pressing down on the wheel, causing the belt to exclaim the word "RED!"
With a flash of crimson light, Ryo donned a red suit of armor, featureless save for two large, white eyes on the helmet and the belt on his waist.
"Let's bring on the color!" he exclaimed.
Ranji and Hitomi were stunned at the sight.
"Amazing!" yelled Ranji, laughing in shock.
Instead of responding verbally, the Spiral Void charged at him. He threw several punches, which Ryo parried. Ryo then grabbed him by the shoulder and pulled him into his knee, chest-first. The Void blocked the knee with his forearm and broke free of the hold. He then attempted a snap kick. The strike knocked Ryo back, giving the Spiral Void the chance to grab him and push him into a telephone pole.
"You're brimming with color," the Void said hungrily. "It's making my mouth water!"
Keeping his cool, Ryo stopped trying to pry the Spiral Void off him and brought his hands together to form a tiger sign. This caused a stream of fire to spray out from where his suit's mouth would be, blowing his enemy away. The Void hit the ground hard, already scrambling away on his hands and knees as Ryo continued his fire-breathing attack.
Dodging the blasts, the Spiral Void ran around the corner of a building. After a few seconds, the flames stopped. He peeked out from his hiding spot to see Ryo moving about the vicinity, gathering the color spheres from the fallen Void.
"I guess it's time for me to get serious," he said, catching Ryo's attention.
The Void crouched down, putting his hands flat against the ground. As he did, the ground around him began turning black, and the spirals all over his body began spinning rapidly.
"Crank up!" he screamed. And just like that, he disappeared in a flash.
Ryo had an idea of what was coming next.
"Hide, guys!" As soon as the words left his lips, he was struck multiple times by an unseen force.
"Ryo!" yelled Hitomi.
"What's going on? Did he turn invisible?" Ranji wondered aloud.
"Let's find out," Ryo said, gritting his teeth.
After taking yet another hit from his unseen opponent, he spun in place, spitting fire. Nothing happened, indicating he'd missed the Void. Taking a hit in the ribs, he grabbed the color wheel on his belt and spun it so the blue section was on top.
"BLUE!" the belt announced as he pressed down. There was a flash of blue light as Ryo transformed again. The change was quite simple this time, with his suit going from red to blue. Forming a new hand sign, Ryo breathed out an icy wind that turned the ground all around him into a solid sheet of ice. Seconds later, a scream was heard, and something crashed into him.
Seeing the Spiral Void on top of him, Ryo said, "You were moving at super speed, weren't you?"
"Yes, and it was working until you tripped me up!" the Void yelled, throwing punches as he grappled with Ryo's armored fists.
Withstanding the attacks, Ryo used his ice breath again, sending the spiral-covered Void spinning away on the frozen ground.
The Void quickly got to his feet again, shouting "Crank up!"
When nothing happened, the Spiral Void looked himself over to see that many of the spirals covering his body had been frozen solid by Ryo's attack.
Ryo took advantage of the brief distraction, using his ice breath to freeze the Void's legs to the ground. He then tapped his belt three times, making it call out "MAX BLUE!"
He leaped toward the Spiral Void, his right foot glowing with icy blue energy. His kick struck the Void in the chest, sending him flying through the side of a nearby building. Walking over to his fallen enemy, Ryo was joined by Ranji and Hitomi.
Seeing that the spiral-covered Void was still alive, Hitomi began the interrogating him. "Where are you and others like you coming from?"
"So you think there's some special spot we're all spawning from, is that it?" the Spiral Void wheezed out in response. He laughed. "Well, you're right. Would you like a prize?"
"Tell us now!" Hitomi stomped on the monster's chest, making him groan in pain.
Unnerved by her actions, Ranji pulled her off him. "Easy, he's already dying."
The Spiral Void found his voice again and continued. "There are pockets of Void all over the city. If you want to find the origin point, you'll have to search them one by one." He paused and coughed out a glob of black blood before going on. "Who knows, maybe you'll get lucky and find it on your first try? Heh. But we all know you won't."
With that, he dissolved into nothing.
Ryo absorbed the color spheres he released and went back outside, followed by Ranji and Hitomi. Walking up to the area that the Spiral Void had polluted, he thrust his hands forward, releasing the color spheres and restoring color to the entire area.
Ranji's jaw dropped at the sight.
Hitomi looked at Ryo in awe. "Who exactly are you?"
That made him smile. "Primary. Kamen Rider Primary."
